Jackson, MS is the location I am referencing only because they are all independently operated. My fiancé was shown an engagement set, then 1 week later went back to purchase, but when he proposed to me the ring did not look quite right, so he had it appraised at several jewelers. They all said he was grossly overcharged!! Carter Jewelers did not sell him the ring which was shown to him...the set is similar in style which was why my fiancé did not notice it was a much cheaper set which Jay sold to him at the same price quoted. See pics below. Obviously they are not the same ring!! Also my fiancé did not think to look at the ring through an eyepiece. If he had he would have seen the set he would purchase is ALL METAL and he ould have NEVER PURCHASED the set if he had looked at it through an eye piece. The first set is what my fiancé thought he purchased for $8000. The second ring is what Jay gave him for $8000 which was appraised between $2000 & $4000 max!! ALWAYS LOOK AT DIAMOND THRU AN EYEPIECE. The second ring when appraised was ALL METAL! If you purchased any diamond from this establishment without looking through an eyepiece, chances are you got scammed as well!! read more

Do not buy from Carter's! They specialize in jewelry fraud. I bought a diamond ring that they listed in their case for $10,500. I paid $7500+tax. Great deal right? Not exactly. Carter's appraised the ring for $7500 after I bought it. I've two other independent appraisals made recently that blew my mind. I was told that diamond quality did not match their appraisal or receipt and all together was only worth about $1500. I'm sick to my stomach now. If I could rate 0 stars I would. For the last 25 years, my father bought most of the jewelry he gave my mother, my sister, and me from Carters. While my dad was loyal to them, they are not loyal to their customers! My now husband bought my engagement ring here. About a week after he proposed to me, I went to Carter's with my mother to look for a matching wedding band (because it has diamonds on the top and both sides of the setting). First George, who sold it to my husband, had no record or recollection of the sale, even though it had just occurred. Additionally, they did not have any bands that matched, and they were unwilling to order or make me a matching wedding band. (Who sells an engagement ring that you can't match to a wedding band?) Therefore, we had a semi-custom Tacori wedding band made through another long-time jeweler in town. That should have been our first alert... Within about the first year, one of the side stones fell out. We took it in to Carters. George again couldn't find evidence of the sale. We asked if they could fix the missing stone, and they said they could not. So of course, we went to the other jeweler who had sold us the similar wedding band and had them fix it. Now, we've been married for 3.5 years, and I've had 4 different diamonds fall out of the top and sides of the setting. Since we moved out of state 3 years ago, we have had it repaired by various reputable jewelers. Today I called to ask Carter's whether they could stand behind this problematic setting they sold us. A gruff woman basically told me that any warrantee that we would have had (but we were never told about) would be null because we had others fix it. I explained that we live out of state and that the first time we tried to get it repaired there was unsuccessful. She then tried to blame those that had repaired it, even though this makes no sense since it is different stones that have fallen out. She implied that I've had the ring for almost 4 long years, so I shouldn't expect it to hold up. I explained that we're getting frustrated rebuilding the ring, one pave setting at a time and are now looking at buying another setting. She offered no assistance at all. If you want to buy jewelry that lasts, AVOID CARTERS. All the advertisement in the world can't fix a bad reputation. read more
