I went here several years ago to get started with target shooting as a hobby. The man behind the counter was helping us and I made a mistake in misnaming the caliber of round needed. He stood straight up, looked towards the store, and loudly proclaimed "Ma'am, I will help you any day but I will never sell a gun to to this man!" Rather than mentor, he chose to belittle. My husband and I purchased a deer rifle 2 weeks ago from here. There is a strait pin that holds the clip in it and no way to keep it from falling out. We called Carters Country this morning and was told sorry we don't work on or warranty brand new $1600 guns. We were told we needed to take it to a gunsmith and have it repaired. I have bought a few guns from Carter's Country in the past. I went in today to find a small roll pin for a gas block on an AR10 build...literally, a $1-2 item (actually only worth a few pennies). I waited in line at their gun service counter...the gun smith did not make eye contact with me when he finally did give me service. He quickly told me that they did not have the item I was looking for but to talk to the guys at the sales counter. The sales guys are pretty good. The guy to whom I spoke was unsure of what I was looking for but another guy said that I would have to buy a kit for $20. Carter's advertises their AR-Bar...basically someplace where every part is available for an AR build/repair. I was not expecting to have to buy an entire kit and ended up not wasting the money. My issue with this place is that they treat their customers like they are doing them a favor by treating them like crap! Customer service is not in their vocabulary. If not for the pandemic and their ability to stay supplied with stock, people should avoid this place if they are able to do so. I will never step foot inside of this store again and will take my business elsewhere. read more

This is the 1st time to give a poor review and sad to say but Carters completely disappointed me and my friends when we went in.I walked around their store for at least 15 minutes and didn't see 1 person wearing a mask over their nose and mouth even though we are in the middle of a pandemic and our city is currently considered in red based on Covid cases .There were no signs on the door to mask and I guess if no employees were wearing one they definitely wouldn't expect their customers to.They didn't have the items we needed to do some practice shooting and noone even asked if we needed help although there was hardly anyone in the store.Maybe their other potential customers were scared to enter when they saw no employees wearing masks.Although I have used this business many times before, I definitely will not return for awhile .*We went to Athena Gun Club on Katy Freeway afterwards and were immediately greeted as we walked in , excellent service was given by the employees who had our items in stock and we will be returning there tomorrow. read more

Carter's has what you need not who you need. not one of the men who had zero customers and were behind the gun counter even attempted to help me after several minutes standing waiting. I had to request help. The employee that helped me used the least amount of words possible with me even though I was a first time gun purchaser. Didn't attempt to tell me a thing about the gun. Then tried to sale me two boxes of bullets, not the kind I wanted , so I passed. What a bunch of asses! I bought a used shotgun from them 2 years ago and had an interest in replacing it with a new one. Their customer service was horrible and actually insulting. The 'lead guy' was too lazy to even get out his seat to come meet me, they had to carry my gun to him and then wait on his 'attention'. What a prima Donna! He then low balled me although I had the paperwork and what they charged. It was insulting, but he didn't have any sense that it was so, totally clueless. Unfortunately I have to add another bad review. If you buy anything from them online, there is zero communication afterwards regarding the status of your order. ZERO. I even went to one of their locations for an update. They said they have no way to track an online order and you basically have to pray they eventually get around to fulfilling it. It isn't a Bass Pro Shop or a Cabela's, but as far as guns and hunting equipment go, it's well worth a peek, even if for nothing more than to see the collection of deer head and other mounts. It's also a store in which one can immediately tell is meant for those who take their guns seriously since, unlike so many other gun shops, what they carry in long arms are meant for hunting and sport. There are very few if any of those silly Uzi, AK-47, SIG SWAT 556, AR-15 or other semiautomatic paramilitary assault weapon crap most seemingly designed for ghetto hood drug land warfare but useless to the true sportsman. read more

I have to say Carter's Country has been my "go to" place for all my needs. The staff is ALWAYS very friendly and helpful no matter what I am buying or a question I may have. They generally have PLENTY of ammo. Prices are good. I have bought several guns, ammo and a safe over the past few months. Even have sent friends there that have left pleased. If you can't find something on the website just give'em a call they probably have what you're looking for. And as for the range I enjoy a weekly trip. I was in the market for a new fire arm. One I haven't had a chance to see in person so I had questions. I go up to the store and walk over to the gun counter. Immediately one of the workers just gets a nasty tone with me. I haven't even inquired about the firearm yet but he just shuts me and my questions down and very rudely. I forgot his name but he's a taller W man around his 35-40's. He was not helpful, he was not welcoming and pretty much a douchebag by definition. Great place, everyone who loves guns and the outdoors should check them out. They have pretty good Ammo prices during a time where it's impossible to find. Calling ahead for some ammo would be a good Idea. I've heard to check in on Fridays if you really need something. I purchased a M&P Shield 9 and love it. Knowledgeable staff, quick and easy process and I was in and out in a half hour. Sales staff were very helpful. I would suggest giving them a try! read more

Carters country has been around for a long time and some of the employees are very knowledgeable however they lack in customer service friendliness. Place is ok but the online stock inventory is not kept up to date or you may find something not what you expect on arrival. Prices are slightly higher than places like Gander and accessories are all marked up compared to places like amazon, obviously. They do low ball on trade-in's which is not really surprising but still painful if you don't want to go through the hassle of selling what you have on your own or going to two different places. Was helped immediately this Saturday afternoon by Bill, the manager. Place was somewhat busy. All the staff were very nice and helpful. Good selection of equipment, ammo, and firearms. Very clean inside and well lit. Best selection of safes I've seen around. I came in looking for a hard to find item, which they had. I had been around to several stores in the area and absolutely no one else had this in stock. Carter's did though. Price wise, they are comparable to many other places around town. I got what I needed and didn't overpay. It had been some time since I was last in here, but I will be back. The "gunsmith" more appropriately should be called "parts replacement technician" at best, kept the firearm for 13 months!! did nothing, had no recommendation for any real gunsmith and last but not least, his customer relation manners or lack thereof, are ....(expletive). Took the firearm to The Collectors Arms. A whole different world! Impeccable in every sense of the word. The GUNSMITH informed me that if they did not have the part or able to source it, they will make it! as any competent gunsmith would. Please allow two weeks. Got a call late afternoon of the same day, informing me that the firearm was ready and tested. They had the part available in house. If you need a competent, dependable, we can do it, GUNSMITH in Texas or in the Country, for that matter, look no further. I am a sixty five year old collector that has done business prior with Collector's Fire Arms. Why I did not go there in the first place, can not answer, is almost a mystery, even to me. I turned 21 and decided to go with my dad to purchase a handgun for myself on my birthday, everything was going fine until one of the workers, Glen was rude towards us because we were looking at a firearm and I was showing my dad because he has more experience with them and I asked Glen a couple of questions and he rudely without any effort to answer of our questions, said he wouldn't sell it to me bc apparently I was buying it for my dad, I then proceeded to tell Glen that the firearm was for me and not for my dad bc It was my birthday and he said" I'm not stupid I've been doing this for years and I know what you're trying to do" but the whole time we were looking at the firearm he was murmuring under his breath. I told Glen " sir it's my birthday I just turned 21 today and I would like to purchase a firearm" he had no manners or cared whatsoever which he then proceeded to tell me he wasn't going to sell me a firearm. I have been a customer since before I could drive shooting skeet with my father. I have had many positive learning experiences. Unfortunately, recently the new staff and their greed have taken over. Between a couple bad experiences trying to buy guns and my most recent experience attempting to buy ammo I don't think I will ever return. It is clearly obvious to me as a customer they their priorities have changed from a service business to one of pure greed and they have quit caring about return business and long term customers. Customer service was horrible. Manager was useless. Went in to trade a gun and buy a new one . He showed me a few Glocks told me I had a Gen 3 and try to sell me a Gen 5. When I asked what the difference was, all he said was "well ones an older model ones a new model" anyone with common sense can figure that out. But said nothing more, then an employee comes and makes a remark, " I don't know why people decide to come at 5:30 to buy guns".As if others don't have jobs and and later times to get off.
