If I could go less than 1 star I would. Simply put read the reviews and stay away. I had a similar response to the others brought my gun in for simple work and when I received it back it was non functioning. Lengthy conversation with Brian the owner to no avail. The end result was I was told he was retiring and there was no warranty. I do not understand how a gunsmith with his reputation can go down so fast. I don't like writing negative reviews, especially of small businesses, but I felt this necessary so that others avoid my mistake. Unfortunately for me, I did not read the many negative reviews of their recent work, nor did I see the dismissive responses to their concerns. I brought two guns in last week to get night sights installed at a premium price of $70.36 each. Night sights were new in the factory packaging and the guns I brought in are both used but well cared for as they are rarely fired despite being close to 25 years old. When I picked both guns up this afternoon, both had fresh scratch marks along the rear of the slide, located in the same place on each gun. These marks looked as if the slides had been secured improperly in a sight pushing tool which marred the finish. They also showed smaller non-linear scratches towards the front of the gun as well as on the brand-new sights that looked like they were caused by a small tool or improper storage. When I brought this up to the kind lady at the front, both of the other gunsmiths looked them over, noting that the finishes are not easy to touch up and then disappeared in the back. I was then told that I needed to wait for Brian, the owner to see what could be done. After briefly looking at my guns and then stepping to the back, Brian quickly returned and was adamant that neither his tools nor gunsmiths would have caused the scratches. When I asked him if he found it suspicious that the marks on both guns were in the same places, he reiterated that they were not caused by his sight tool as it is padded with felt. I also asked him about the scratches on the sights themselves that came brand new in the sealed packaging and the other places on the guns and again he said his gunsmiths would not have made them. He did take one of the guns to the back to rub oil on the finish which did minimize the scratches somewhat but did not completely remove them. After briefly going back and forth about who was responsible for the scratches, I left, genuinely in shock that a gunsmith could screw up something as simple as a sight installation. When I returned home and stopped seeing red, I also found that the front sight on one of the guns is bent and will need to be adjusted or repaired by a competent gunsmith. I remembered that he mentioned that his shop should start taking pictures of guns that they take into the shop to prevent this sort of thing, and that's when I remembered I had recent pictures of both guns that I had taken for my insurance company. I've included one series below that shows the finish was still present on the rear of my Glock's slide. Since I was told that there was no way they could have made the scratches, I will let the readers of this review decide whether or not to give this shop your business. Yes, one of the guns had scratches from holster wear which are on the front of the slide and not the rear. The other gun's slide was flawless, including the rear of the firearm where the new scratches were. To be clear, I never once asked for anything free, discounted or refinished (which I would not have accepted anyway as I keep my guns factory spec.) I just wanted Lohman's to admit and apologize for damaging my firearms that were in their care. TL:DL- This shop can't be trusted to own up to their mistakes, so take your guns elsewhere. I was told by the owner that I should trust them as they routinely have $10-20k guns in the shop, but I wouldn't trust them even with a Hi-Point. read more

Avoid at all costs. As a business owner, I couldn't imagine a worse experience in my 45 years than my experience with Brian Lohman and Lohman Gunsmiths. I brought my wood stock Remington 700 to have pillars added and the action bedded in epoxy. This was a brand new rifle and not an antique, etc. I specifically asked Oliver and the gunsmith (didn't get his name) to bed the action and stop 1" in front of the recoil lug, as this is customary for Rem. 700's and is "the way" the industry does these bedding jobs to ensure the barrel is 100% free-floated. We visited for 30+ minutes about the job and I made sure we were on the same page for scope of work. They both agreed with the work. They quoted $470 for the work and I agreed to the price, without question. Is $470 a fair price? Probably too high, but I thought paying the premium would deliver an exceptional job. They require 50% down payment to be paid before they will start any work. I paid before I left the shop and was quoted a 2 week turn-around. I went back 3 weeks later to find out that they had not started on the gun and were waiting on pillars to come in. The pillars are an in stock item at Brownells, etc. and I don't think they ever ordered them. Either way, the communication could have been made from Lohman's to me that they needed more time. Another two weeks later and I went to pick up the gun...In hindsight, I should have thoroughly inspected it before paying the balance and taking the gun home. Oliver did take it apart to quickly show me the work, at which I immediately pointed out that they epoxy bedded the entire barrel and did not stop at the recoil lug! The barrel is not free-floated - this is exactly the opposite of the service I asked them to do! I told Oliver that if the gun shot well, I'd be OK as all I really wanted was the accuracy to be improved (hence the bedding of the action and the pillars). When I got home, I inspected in greater detail and discovered that the action screws were stripped, the release agent wasn't cleaned from the gun, the epoxy overflowed onto the wood and wasn't cleaned up, and the wood stock was damaged from their work. The bedding and pillar work were exceptionally poor quality - see the attached pictures. Lohman and Oliver quoted a "30 day warranty - go shoot the gun and let us know if there are any issues and we'll take care of them for you". I can't shoot the gun as the action screws are stripped! I called Lohman and spoke with Oliver and asked that Brian Lohman call me to discuss. As a business owner, I can relate when the service and/or product is not as good as the customer wants and I wanted to talk to Brian directly. My expectations were that he would agree that the product and service were not acceptable and they would make it right and/or refund. After repeated voicemails missing each other, I spoke to Oliver and he relayed that Brian's decision was: 1. The stripped action screws weren't their fault and I needed to pay ANOTHER $216.50 to get them fixed. 2. The pillar & action bedding were done perfectly and didn't need any repairs/rework. 3. It's not their problem that they completely ruined the wood stock by epoxy bedding the entire rifle stock even though I hired them to stop 1" in front of the recoil lug. Whether or not they or I damaged the a threads is of point of contention, but it's a 10 minute job for them with equipment and tools they already have in house. The idea that they refuse to help at all, considering the complete fail on the original project, is difficult to understand. $216.50 is an absolute slap in the face when it shouldn't take $20 worth of time or equipment to re-tap the threads. It gets worse. In addition, they stated the ONLY way I could get my rifle back (mind you, there is a $1,500 scope attached to it, the gun is presumably worth $1,000 when new, and it's stored in a $250 case that they also have) is if I came with CASH to pay the $470 so they could credit my Amex credit card as they are now fearful I'd cancel the payment from Amex (made months ago on the first 50% and 3 weeks ago on the remainder). This is of course a violation of Amex's merchant agreements, but I doubt they care about that part either. Long story short, they do bad work and are dishonest human beings. This life lesson cost me $470 in cash + a new stock for the gun + another gunsmith to fix the action screws. $1,000 "all-in" to write this review to save you from the same headache. Convenient location but the project I had them working on took 9.5 months to complete and when it was returned to me the action no longer cycled and the fit and finish was terrible. To be fair they did offer to fix any issues I had with the item but I wasn't going to let them damage the items further. The action has to be sent back to the manufacturer for repair (it worked smooth as silk when dropped off) and I spent the last three weeks removing bedding compound and trying to make the butt pad NOT look like something a 3rd grader installed. I was here recently to fix a broken safety selector. The staff was extremely friendly and approachable. We had some good conversations. They will try to help you any way they can, and will not take advantage of you. You can tell they enjoy what they do. BE VERY CAREFUL LEAVING A DEPOSIT WITH THESE PEOPLE! I have been a repeat customer of this company over the last few years so it's unfortunate they've chose to end a professional relationship in this manner. I dropped off my Walther P99 gen 1 to have a threaded barrel fitted. Maybe a 20 minute job. They gave me a 2 week estimate and took a $81 deposit. I've had no issues with them in the past so I had no problem leaving a deposit. BIG MISTAKE! After 3 weeks of waiting with no phone call that my job was completed I decided to call for an update. They proceeded to tell me their gunsmith was out sick and it would be another 2 WEEKS before I could expect my gunsmith work to be completed. ZERO communication was made to inform me that there would be a estimated 3 week delay in service. I told them I was coming to pick up my handgun and take it elsewhere. They informed me they would not be refunding my $81 deposit, even in this circumstance where they have failed on their end to update customers of extended completion estimates. Make note, they did NOTHING to my handgun for over 3 WEEKS and still entitled themselves to my $81 deposit. I told the front desk girl I will be leaving an appropriate review based on their piss poor customer service and she obviously valued my $81 deposit more then their integrity as a business. I boogied up the threads on my duty rifle trying to remove an old pinned and welded muzzle device. I switched to a new muzzle device for a new suppressor and feared the barrel would be beyond repair. Lohman Gunsmith could chase the threads, save the crown, and pin and weld my new muzzle device for a reasonable price. Saved the whole upper in my opinion (a factory BCM to boot). Had a pistol that was inexpensive but belonged to my Grandfather and then my father. I thought I would give it to my daughter but it had not been fired in decades. I thought I would take it to Gunsmith to get it cleaned up and make sure it was safe to shoot. February 5th-Dropped it off on and prepaid more than the gun was worth to get it cleaned up. Gunsmith test fired it when I dropped it off and it was functioning. They did not want the velvet bag I had it in, because they were going to put it in a nice box when I picked it up. I was told two weeks even though website says 3-4 days. I was okay with that. After a month without hearing anything I called and left messages that were not returned. Late March I went by the store and was told that they had lost several gunsmith and that they had not started it. Heard from lady at the counter how they kept hiring young kids who did not know what they were doing. Give them two weeks. April 25th I went by store and they said that first gunsmith had started it, took it apart, and lost a piece of it. Even though they knew that, they had not ordered the missing piece. I could take it if I want but it was in pieces. I was told by the gunsmith that the owner "keeps hiring young gunsmith who think they know everything but do not know anything" May 7th-picked up the gun finally. Not in a box. Handed it to me without asking me for identification, or having me sign anything. Conclusion-Website said 2-4 days-they told me two weeks-actually took 3 months. Only got it back because I hounded them. No communication. Lost a piece of my pistol. Very unprofessional at every step. I have sent them text messages, called and left voicemails, messaged them via their website and they haven't responded in over 40 days. I also drove by and no one answered the locked door during business hours. I brought a gun there over a year ago and they still haven't completed it. I gave them two months of lead time to finish a simple project, and they quoted me much more time and cost than anyone else to whom I reached out. I decided to go with them because before I gave them my rifle, they were very communicative, but as soon as they had my rifle, that's when it all stopped. No updates. No one knew what was going on with it. When it came down to the week before I needed it to give to my dad after his 35 years serving in the Navy to commemorate his service, I was told within 48hrs of needing to board the plane that not only was it not ready, but that in the 2 to 2 1/2 months that I gave them, they had not done a single thing to the rifle. Before that 48-hour crisis, I asked them a week and a half before their reassured deadline what the progress was and that it wasn't ready, but it was absolutely going to be ready before I needed to leave for Washington, DC. It came time for any trust to mean something, and they failed. Just keep note of how recent those positive reviews are. Lohman is not what it used to be. They were very aware and very reassuring that this rifle would be done correctly and on time to commemorate my dad's lifetime of military service when I talked with Oliver. So if the results indicate anything, it proves they did not care. So when you trust someone with something so monumentally important, and they assure you it will be done right, what would you want them to do? The worst gunsmithing experience I have had so far in life. On August 16, 2022 Lohman gunsmithing took possession of my pistol and old unloved nickel plated Series 70 Commander. I sent my pistol to them to have a new set of sights installed and knew it would take some work since they would be replacing a set of previously installed Millet sights. Following their inspection of my pistol on August 17, 2022 they informed me on the options and costs, following my response moments later I finally heard back from them on Sept 2, 2022 and was told upon further inspection (someone realized the Millett front sight install) that they would need to cut a dovetail and the cost. I agreed to the dovetail and they Requested an email to invoice me. Finally on October 19, 2022 I recieve another text explaining to me that with cutting the dovetail there will be hole in my slide that will work like it's ported (despite the barrel not being ported) or they can weld up the hole cut the dovetail and profile and the slide will look brand new since it is stainless (which it is NOT)(It Doesn't by the way look new at all). I agree to the welding and profiling, I am told to give them a couple weeks. So given the couple week time frame I inquire about my pistol on the Novermber 16, 2022 and November 17, 2022 and finally get a response that the welded up my stainless slide and the weld had failed. But it has been welded again and the weld has held, it just needs cleaned up and the dovetail recut and my project will be done, please bear with them the ask!! So once again I inquire about my pistol on November 28, 2022 as well as November 30 and then December 6 with NO RESPONSE. I finally heard from someone and was told give them a couple weeks, so I message them again I send the last text on December 29, 2022 and surprisingly NOTHING CHANGES!! Finally on January 11, 2023 I received and email from the Gunsmith at Lohman Gunsmith that reads "After a number of attempts, we have come to what we believe is the best we can do with your firearm. Looking at the pictures I lose my mind, we have come a long way from my pistol look good as new (at least as good as the pistol I sent them). Brian Lohman responds to my disgusted response about the best we can do and tells me he has disciplined the person who wrote that email tells me that is NOT the best they can do and that the finish I plan on putting on the gun will fill in the holes the welding has left. ( I have mentioned the slide was far from perfect more than once already). He asks for my phone number so he can call me the next day. I receive a email the next day January 12, 2023 that he has a severe migraine in fact had 3 operations in December alone to help solve the problem and will put off calling me until the following Tuesday after the 3 day holiday weekend. A phone call that NEVER happened. I finally sent an email to Brian Lohman on February 23, 2023 asking what had happened and was told after we had spoken (which we still never have) he had left the ball in my court but would call me that Friday another phone call that never came?? Finally I was so disgusting with the BS and requested and invoice to pay so I could get my pistol back and figure our who in the heck would NOW fix the butchered pistol I received back from Lohman gunsmithing. I cannot even remove the barrel bushing from the slide to remove the barrel!! I have never seen a 1911 that the front sight did not sit flush with the slide. But I guess that is the best Lohman gunsmithing can do. Thank you, Brian Lohman for being the Best Gunsmith in Houston Since I receiving my pistol back I have emailed Mr. Lohman 2 more times pointing out his 30 day labor guarantee in the second email. Decided to give this place a shot and they took less than 10 minutes to remove the barrel nut. Talked to the owner for a brief moment and he seems like a genuine person who would be happy to help with any firearm you bring in. Read all bad reviews first and see how similar they are. Beware of their business practices: they will charge you 50% of the estimated cost of repairs upfront and will make you sign an agreement that they would keep this deposit under any circumstances. Meaning they have absolutely zero reasons to even try doing a decent job on your project or doing it on time. Which is exactly what happened to me. 6 months wasted, $ 450 non refundable deposit paid, only to come back to where we started. Yes, they glued back my broken stock. But they finally admitted they are "not up to the task" of refinishing it to the point of "no visible cracks" Which is exactly the reason I gave them this project and made them write it out in the agreement. To simply glue it back together I would never pay $ 450 and wouldnt wait 6 months. Not to mention they NEVER returned my phone calls. And until I confronted them with the fact that 6 months have elapsed, they would feed me lies about how my stock is being refinished but " the varnish hasnt dried yet and we have no control over this process". This "company" is bunch of amateurs who are in business of cutting corners and making money off your non refundable deposits. They have ZERO integrity and no concept of a customer service. They take advantage of the fact gun smithing is a dying industry and a lot of desperate gun owners will agree to their ridiculous terms. read more

RUN AWAY. They charged me 300 bucks to cut down and thread a .22. The price being astronomical they offered to take the flash hider off a mcx virtus barrel for free, which they couldn't even get off and needed to keep. After quoting me 1.5 weeks, the order was finally done almost 2 months later. Upon picking up the order they tried to charge me for the flash hider removal. Much quicker and cheaper to just send your guns off to a reputable machinist like ECCO. read more

If I could rate Lohman Gunsmithing any lower I would. This should have been a simple ambidextrous safety installed on a 1911(Stainless). First, it was almost two months from the time it was dropped off before I was finally able to get a call back to find out the status - they would get to it within the week. I spent over 8 minutes on the call explaining exactly what I wanted, type of safety (same thumb size as the original), asked them to address the slide release pin issue - was Not touched or fixed, and other things they would recommend - they suggested polish slide and trigger. Again, another month goes by before I call and they say it's ready. Went to pick it up and when they set the weapon down I could see scratch marks on one sides of the slide and a small gouge along the slide. The other side was scratched up as well, most likely when they had the slides clamped down. The ambi safety could not be pushed up in the safe position by a flick up of the thumb, and it was dragging along side the frame and leaving large gouges that were visible when in the safe position. You literally had to move your hand off the grip and push up with the tip of your thump just to engage the safety. The ambi safety was also much larger than the original, which I explicitly stated during the 8 minute call I wanted it to be the same size. Good group of guys. Took my Mark V Weatherby in for a decent amount of work. Aftermarket trigger, muzzle break, scope mount, and clean all turned out great. They were supposed to boresight the rifle, I think that might have gotten overlooked with Covid and everything else going on. I'm confident if I would have taken it back in, Lohman would have made it right, I just didn't have the time. I will be taking a few more rifles and pistols to them in the near future. I got an overall hobbyist vibe from this gunsmith shop. Hired them to put a hand guard on my AR15 and it took four weeks. Went to pick up the gun and the guy that did the work couldn't give me a torque value used on the barrel nut. Whatever, it's a broad torque spec. Got the gun home and the pic rail doesn't line up with the upper receiver. I didn't think to check something so basic before I walked out. I could have done better work in my garage. I went to the gunsmith to get it done professionally. read more

My Colt 1911 had been misfeeding more and more. I read tons of forums and just could find a solution. I took it to another gun smith and they said they fixed it but it still wouldn't feed properly. I took it to Lohman. They seemed very professional and confident that they could figure out what was wrong and fix it. They called me back after diagnosing the problem and gave me a clear plan and reasonable price. I picked up the gun and ran 100 rounds through it without a single problem. I impressed and pleased.
