I usually check their staff recommended shelf and have found excellent things to read there. The staff are also super helpful, more than a few times I've gone in and told them what I like and am always met with great recommendations. I find myself buying something every time I stop there.

This is one…read morewe've been to several times over the years and seen it change from a mostly comic store to one offering board games, manga, graphic novels and everything in between. On our most recent trip we saw a game of magic going on in the back where the older comics used to be stored so it looks like they've expanded to card games as well. We did see several boxes of the new Disney card game Lorcana as well at the register. Left side of the store houses the card meet ups and a decent selection of manga, though the volumes are mismatched and best to help fill in gaps in your collection. Right side has more recent comics and dice games. As another review said I wish they'd add & Games to be Comics & Games since they do have an expanded board game section now. Feels like they're missing out on some key business. Talked with the cashier who said they've stopped stocking back issues and mostly just fill their monthly orders for regulars, only ordering an extra copy here and there. Husband was looking for a few recent back issues but was told if it wasn't on the shelf, they were sold out. They stopped extra ordering/stocking due to COVID and decrease in foot traffic. We did end up purchasing a hard cover of Peach Momoko's work and Marvel Cats book though. Cashier was very knowledgeable but didn't like to make eye contact with us, always looking around or sitting back watching his computer while we asked about several issues they didn't have. Just seemed uninterested if you weren't a regular so that was a bit of a turn off. Meanwhile he was super friendly and helpful to the man and son before us so they must frequent the shop on a regular basis. Location wise its easy to miss. On the side of dunkin donuts on Frasier St, its on the lower level of dunkin, accessible by staircase only. Not sure about handicap options, but it might be hard to access if you are physically disabled.

After walking past the store I saw a couple of the boxes for the console on a shelf looking like they were for sale. Nope, they were just empty boxes. It's very deceiving and disappointing that they are using this tactic just to get people in the door. The worker behind the desk was very nice when she told me they didn't have any and it was just an empty box but it was very aggravating.

Previous run ins with employees have often left me scratching my head in disbelief that someone with a proclaimed love of gaming seriously doesn't have a single answer to my most basic questions. A grand example : Me : (after digging through a few shelves) Ya'all have Metal Gear Solid 2 for the Xbox? Employee : (without even checking or showing interest) No, they never made that for the Xbox. Me : I'm pretty sure they did. Employee : No.. I'm pretty sure they didn't. 15 minutes later after further digging, at the check-out with said mystery game. Employee : Oh. Guess they did. Sadly, at least in my neck o' the woods in lil Rhody, these types of conversations are commonplace. One of the few things I loved about living in State College, was this Game Stop. Aside from being knowledgeable, friendly and always more than happy to give me suggestions and opinions, the staff frequently went above and beyond normal customer service. If there's one thing I love more than Honeydew iced coffee, great food and Chanel bags combined, is Metal Gear Solid. I'm one of -those- inane fans with the obsessive, compulsive desire to play every game in every language and literally purchase every item ever made to add to my collection. Seriously. Around the time Mgs-4 hit the shelves, the staff was actually kind enough to hold one of the ridiculously huge, large-enough-to-hang-glide from, posters in the store window for me once the official promotions ended. 'Always was well stocked, well kept and well lit. Triple points for not being utterly cluttered like the tiny locations around these parts. I definitely miss you, Atherton Game Stop.

This has become my 10-year-old son's favorite retro store. We have visited about 10 times since…read morediscovering it this past summer. It has very good pricing and a great selection of games and consoles. Consoles generally range from the Atari VCS (2600) to seventh generation (360, DS, Wii, PS3). Consoles come with one controller and the attachments needed to hook the system up to a TV. The console software is pretty extensive, starting with the NES and running up through 7th gen. Most of the handheld is Gameboy and DS. Once again, their selection is rather well rounded. Some of the more premium titles are located in the display case back by the register. There are also some rare curiosities in the collection that were pleasant surprises ( I never expected to see a full catalog of Virtual Boy software on display anywhere ). Something to be aware of is that any retro purchases can sometimes not work out. We have had one GBA cart and an XBOX cd fail to start when trying out the software at home. The store has a very generous return policy. I believe as long as you bring back the title within 10, they will accept returns and exchanges. The staff is very friendly and will always try to help out. In our cases, the store gave us a direct exchange on the scratched XBOX disc after trying to repair it instore, and a full refund for the GBA game. The store also has other typical collections (Trading Card Games, Funko Pops and other figurines). These are not my area of expertise, so I can't comment on the selection or prices. Several arcade machines are set on free-to-play mode at the store entrance to round out the experience. If vintage video games are your thing, then Retro Loot is definitely worth checking out.

The only downside is that they can't compete with Amazon's prices, though they do compare well with Barnes & Noble. That's just the reality of running a brick-and-mortar business. Still, it's always worth a visit. The staff is consistently friendly. My only real critique isn't about the store itself, but more about how Amazon's pricing power can make it difficult for small businesses to compete, making this store feel prohibitively exspenive for a college student (especially for one who has free access to the Paterno Library).

My husband can never pass up the change to check out a book store so we stopped in and were greeted by a friendly cashier and quite a large selection of books. Very clean and bright, its a quiet but quaint store that offers best sellers, value books, and a surprising amount of Japanese/high quality notebooks, stationary and pens. I did hear several people asking about what books they carried and the cashier was able to pull books for them or offer let them know when the book was in stock so I imagine they're still getting a feel for what stock to carry. I picked up 2 books from the recommended wall that piqued my interest and look foreword to reading them. Price wise they sell for retail price so on par with the big box stores, so I'd rather support a small business. Its also eerily quiet inside so I'd like some soft background music otherwise I was able to hear every conversation around me. Other than that its a cute small book store in the heart of state college. A nice addition I look forward to visiting on our next trip up
