Anyway, we stopped at the park which is quick turnout with parking, then a short walk to the beach. Parking is free but the lot small. The beach and views from it are spectacular. I envy the people who live close by the park or on the Oregon coast in general. They are lucky people because the Oregon coast is among the most beautiful in the world. Arcadia beach and Ecola State park (a few minutes north of Arcadia) are absolutely must-see when driving Pacific coast highway 101.

We watched a spectacular sunset here earlier tonight, and we were treated to an unparalleled sky show for almost 2 hours. Some of the sand on this beach is quite soft and a bit deep. There are beautiful streams of water crisscrossing the sand in various places. These streams cross the stretches of sand perpendicular to the ocean, and they lead in to the ocean. Our shoes and socks got soaked multiple times crossing these streams on our walks along this beach, but it was worth it! There are several logs to sit on. Very clean beach. We saw no litter whatsoever. A few Surfers and Frisbee-throwers were hanging out here tonight, as well as a few people with dogs (the dogs seemed to be having a blast here!), and a couple of families with small children. Short Sand beach is a favorite spot for surfers. There are restrooms at the parking lot and seasonal restrooms as well.

The trail is well marked and well maintained, with only one or two muddy areas which are easily navigated to avoid getting wet. I wasn't able to get close to Blumenthal Falls on the north end of Short Sand Beach due to the tide and waves, but I could see it from the end of the trail on the beach. It's on of the very few waterfalls in the PNW that cascades into the Pacific Ocean. Very pretty! The beach itself is very picturesque as it's located in a cove surrounded by mountains. Several benches are present to let you take it all in.

The trails go off in different directions with decent signage along the way. Let's be real, the Oregon coastline is gorgeous no matter where you decide to stop off, and Short Sand is no different. Two creeks emerge from the trees flowing onto the sands and into what feels like a huge "cove" with great waves (at least this day) and a lovely beach. Beautiful spot! I can see why it's so busy during most of the year, but it's sooo peaceful right now during the winter!

It was my buddies bachelor party and he wanted to go bouldering and hiking. On Sunday morning we…read moregot up early and headed to the mountain. My buddy had previously done the hike and said it was one of his favorites, he did warn us that it was a pretty tough hike. I was shocked at just how steep the climb was. I was also shocked when we hit a ridge that had great views only to turn around and realize that we still had quite a bit of climb ahead of us. We had not even hit the "saddle" yet. Once we finally hit the top of the climb I was absolutely blown away at the sights. It was absolutely gorgeous!! You could turn every direction and see something amazing!! We were able to see 4 mountain ranges clearly and another one waaay off in the distance, plus from the other direction you could see the ocean!! For exercise purposes this is one of the best climbs I have ever done. It was really tough and burned out my legs. For views it was one of the best I have seen so far. I have only recently gotten into hiking in the last couple of years. I have been pushing myself further and further. Lil si was probably the toughest one I did last year, this is by far the toughest I have done this year, possibly to date!! One quick note. We went on a beautiful day on a busy holiday weekend and the parking was nuts and the climb was packed, but people were polite and would pull off to the side to let people pass.

Note that you're required to have an Oregon Wildlife Pass ($30 annually) on the dashboard. We had the opportunity to 'Feed the Elk', something they do throughout the winter here. You have to sign up in advance. You and a group of strangers get to board a tractor-towed hay wagon and distribute feed to hungry elk through the fields. You do not get to get off the wagon. There is plenty of room for your cameras, and they make an information stop halfway thru where you can take pics galore. I'd left my 'big lens' at home not knowing what conditions and the experience would be like (I thought we'd be traipsing thru mud) We got super lucky with a beautiful snowy, sunny day. The OFW Ranger, Brian, was super friendly and informative. He gave quite the description at the break and took plenty of time for myraids of questions. There is a restroom here, but my better half reported while clean it hadnt been supplied with, well, supplies. So bring a roll in case.

Lots of out of state folks here doing this hike- I'm sure it would be quite packed on a weekend. The trail itself was a bit overgrown and narrow in parts. Beware of game trails, I missed a turn and found myself a ways down a game trail before turning around. The view at the top is amazing, definitely don't just view from the lower trail. If you're able- climb up the rock face to see the view from the peak. It's so worth it!
