The lady behind the counter was very rude. I asked if they accept the birthday reward for a small soft serve that was emailed to me & expires on the 9th. It was the 2nd. My birthday was last week. The menu says "Thick Shakes" with all of the flavored shakes listed, and the prices listed for small, medium and large sizes. I order an oreo cookie shake, and she says she has to upcharge me for the oreo. I said that's not how it works, the prices are listed and the flavors are listed, the Oreo shake is a flavor comes with Oreos. I am disappointed. I actually came on Yelp to give a much better rating because my experience yesterday and over the past decade deserved more than the ratings that I've seen.. BUT, after reading some of the reviews, I realize that I too have been significantly overcharged. I purchased a small round birthday cake and a pack of the "Flying Saucers" and it came to $65. I realized after going to the actual Carvel website that it would actually cost only $47. Wow. Now, I can only imagine how much I've overpaid over the years... Who would've thought to check Yelp before coming to a chain like Carvel. What could've possibly gone wrong? Welp. I was wrong. The reviews are spot on. The owner was not welcoming, the facility was dirty, and the ice cream was skimpy. She gave bare minimum, just enough to fit in the cup - probably 1/3 of what the advertised photo on the board above us with pricing showed. Then when checking out she states they take cash only. Frankly, I was shocked that Carvel still exists as most of the stores have gone the way of Tom Carvel, their long-deceased spokesman and founder. Compared to the endless array of specialty frozen confections clogging the modern supermarket freezer, Carvel is barely better than a scoop of cold mashed potatoes but for a kid who grew up knowing nothing of gelato and looking to the equally ghosted Friendly's for actual flavor, Carvel had its moment. So as I debate whether to douse my treat in gravy or chocolate syrup, I'll pay my final respects to Carvel. Four nostalgic stars. read more

I got a cake yesterday for my son's birthday. I ordered the cake over the phone, I spoke with an older woman with a heavy accent. The one that everybody in the review seems to disparage. Let me tell you, I feel this woman's pain. She's a hard-working person who answered the phone No matter what time I called. I spoke to her at 11 o'clock in the morning and I spoke to her at 7 o'clock at night. This type of hard work and dedication Is only something that A business owner can appreciate. Whether or not I enjoyed the cake is not the issue, my son loved the cake, my son loved the photo I put on the cake. I am standing in the store right now. I ordered a cake for my daughters birthday for 2pm (which is her birthday). I came in to pick it up and the lady behind the counter is telling me it is for tomorrow. I explained that is not true and she is arguing with me that I am wrong. I really should've looked at the reviews before coming here. I had birthday coupon for a free small cone in my email. It said the offer expired on the thirteenth. Today is the twelfth. My birthday was on the sixth. I came in to redeem it and the lady, who didn't speak much English, started shouting how I had to come in on my birthday, even though the coupon CLEARLY said it was eligible until the thirteenth. I would put negative stars if I could. DO NOT EAT HERE. I ordered a simple Dasher, which was very sloppily made. When I tasted it, the crunchies that it was filled with tasted extremely stale, as if they had been left out in an open container in a refrigerator for ages. I tried to eat it, but the taste was offensive. When I brought this to the attention of the owner, she refused to take it back, refused to make a new one, and refused to give me a refund. She began screaming and yelling at me in broken English in front of other customers in the store and became very nasty. It took over 10 minutes of arguing (which I don't like to do at all) to get her to make me a new one, but she insisted on making it in a smaller size than what I had previously ordered. While making the new Dasher - even sloppier than the first one, she continued to yell at me and insisted that I taste every one of the ingredients before she put it in the cup to be spiteful and ensure that I would not attempt to return it again. This Carvel store is one of the worst I've ever been to. The woman that served us was rude. We were the only people there. I asked for a few minutes to decide and every 10 seconds she asked if I was ready. The sundae I ordered had such a little bit of ice cream and was overpowered by the topping which was more syrup than cherries. When I got to my car, I went to take a bite and the whipped cream was badddd. Like that past date no denying bad dairy bad. Crazy lady working here! I think she's the owner and is here ALL the time. I used to go very regularly and consistently, to the point where the woman recognized us. She is so 'intense' that she makes me and my sister either scared or super frazzled because of her weird energy. Have gone to this location a few times and not a fan at all. The shop is dated and the lady/owner barely speaks English. We always have trouble understanding what she's saying. I last visited on National Ice Cream Day a few weeks ago and had a very unpleasant experience. Firstly, the woman wouldn't give me a second free ice cream like the poster hanging in her window claimed because I got a topping. I was paying for my topping. The least she could've done is offer a plain soft serve. I didn't even bother arguing that. When it was time to pay, she wouldn't accept my CARVEL gift card as payment. She said that her credit card machine doesn't work, so she can't take my gift card. She even took the card out of my hand and slid it through the credit card machine to act like it wasn't working. I then proceeded to tell her I don't have cash (there was a sign in front of me that stated there was a $10 cc minimum). She asked me to pay with a credit card. I told her I'm not using my cc to pay for my $4 ice cream and I questioned the fact that she stated earlier that the cc machine wasn't working, to which she had no response to. I told her I'm using my gc or I'm not buying the ice cream. She then tells me she knows that I didn't buy the gc at her shop (I'd received it as a gift), meanwhile she had the exact same set of gift cards she was selling at her register! She started begging me to pay with my credit card. I wouldn't give her my cc, so she finally took my ice cream and slammed it on the back table.
