We visited last year and loved it, but this time I paid closer attention -- and wow. This diner is spotless, cleaner than almost any diner I've been to. It's also big and spacious, which is a must for us since we bring our grandbabies and a stroller. Colonial absolutely passes my "we need room" test. The host was super friendly and let us choose our table. We started with onion rings, and they were incredible -- huge, perfectly crisp, and the batter stayed on with every bite. My husband ordered a medium cheeseburger with fries and enjoyed every bit of it. I had the grilled chicken Caesar salad and it was AMAZING Our waitress, Magdallena, was wonderful -- friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect. The vibe inside was great: families, couples, friends catching up, even a birthday celebration. Just a happy, welcoming atmosphere all around. We will definitely be back. This diner is a gem.

I had the protein omelette, which was a large portion, and it tasted fine. Nothing noteworthy stood out but I can say that the potatoes were salted. I also had the crispy crunch French toast which was French toast rolled in Rice Krispie cereal. The French toast was good but I wish it had something more to it. All and all this is a diner some items will be okay, some items will be good, and some items will be bad.

However, I was craving shrimp summer rolls and decided to stop in because this is the only viet restaurant in the area. The shrimp summer rolls were very disappointing. The skin was very thick, it was mostly full of bland noodles, and overall not flavorful. The only veggies inside is lettuce. The shrimp is sliced in half so it's basically one piece of shrimp per roll. Feeling unsatisfied. I can't speak on any other items on the menu besides the pho, bun bo hue, and now the summer rolls, however, I will not be returning here.

Asked for banh mi to come out for appetizers but they came out after our entrees. Pho broth was delicious, my husband loves thit nuong (grilled pork) as the protein in his pho and they accommodated us with a generous amount. I am a Bun Bo Hue connoisseur, and my life mission is to scour the state of NJ for authentic and satisfying BBH, ever since moving from a state with a plethora of Viet restaurants. Broth was on point - colorful, robust and delicious. Protein was plentiful, beef shank was thick and tender, but the wrong noodles were used. Instead of the usual thick round rice noodles, they used the thin vermicelli rice noodles, taking away from the traditional BBH texture and taste. No ham hocks and blood cubes but that is typical NJ. And banh mi was decent. Mayonnaise was used instead of the house mayo butter, i decided not to be difficult. I will say this place is generous with the meat portions!

One can sit here for 4 hours and not be rushed to leave. My friends and I would get the Classic Breakfast for $3.99. Today that price has gone up to $11.49. It is still a tremendous value given how expensive everything is nowadays. Here is what you can get for the Build-A-Breakfast. You start with two farm-raised eggs (cooked any style you want). Along with that I got two sausage links, hash browns and a stack of three buttermilk flapjacks. The food is always on point. I am actually not a huge pancake person, but these hit, so fluffy and yummy. For those people who are health conscious there is a calorie count for each item on the menu. You will always get exceptional service here. The staff goes above and beyond. Like I said in my last review, management has a knack for hiring the very best.

No matter who our server is, they're always quick, efficient and very friendly. I love that they're bilingual. Not necessary but always cool to see servers able to cater to a variety of people by speaking 2 languages. Seems like they have a lot of regulars. I would hardly consider ourselves as a regular but they are very personable with many of the customers, asking about their families etc. I love that. Although a chain restaurant, there's a very 'mom & pop' vibe to it. Prices are great especially this day and age and food is consistent. We often get a cookie at a treat for our toddler. I love that they consider him. We will definitely be back.

Today's stop was a place in Sayreville, NJ called Mia's Pizza Restaurant. Mia's is located in a strip mall at the corner of Bordentown Av. and Jernee Mill Road. Normally, when you look at a front window of a restaurant and see two different varieties of food, you should run away. Mia's boasts both Italian and Mexican food. What I've learned thru the years is, if you say you can make great Mexican food and great Italian food, then you can't make great anything. I ordered one plain slice and one sausage slice and hoped for the best. I was actually optimistic because every table in this place was taken. The good: Both the outer crust and undercarriage were spectacular. Crispy, crunchy and stood up perfectly with no limpness whatsoever. The crust is not dry at all. And the slices are big. Thank goodness I ordered a sausage slice as the sausage added a flavor punch that these slices badly needed. The problems: the sauce is pretty bland. It has a slight hint of basil flavor but there was no other Italian seasoning flavors that I could taste or even see. It also wouldn't hurt if they used a bit more sauce. The cheese is premium but like the sauce, they could use a bit more of it. There isn't a menu in sight. They have a menu board above the front counter. There are no prices on it however. If you aren't going to put out paper menus, then you really need to put prices on the menu board so your customers don't get unpleasant surprises. As much as I wanted to like this place, it just doesn't cut it. They do nothing to differentiate themselves from the stiff local competition. Overall Rating: C

I ordered the Stromboli and the guy asked me what I would like in it. He handmade each one which was surprising to me for such a little hole in the wall spot. I chose to have mine with meatballs, broccoli and spinach. It took about 15 minutes but I got a huge, piping hot cheese filled bread along with the fillings I selected. It was pretty good I must say and add only $7 then just $.95 for each topping it was well worth it.
