I renovated my guest bathroom.  Carver Tile and Stone did the wall and floor tile work. The owner, Stephen Raesz, cut and arranged the tiles precisely and carefully. He is a true artist and craftsman. He was particular about the details and checked his work repeatedly to make sure it was as perfect as possible. He also asked my friend and me to inspect his work,  and let him know if we can see any issues for him to fix. His positive and professional attitude made us very satisfied.  He is also very kind and friendly. When I enter the completed bathroom, the beauty of tiles makes the bathroom look so amazing and high end. I was in a bad situation when I met Stephen, the owner of Carver Tile & Stone. I normally use Steven Robinson for my tile work, but he was too busy so I went with an unknown tile setter - big mistake! The guy I used totally botched three bathroom tile jobs and was way behind schedule so I fired him and went with Stephen and his crew. They came in and fixed all the mistakes, took out bad pieces, did three bathroom floors and did a custom shower pan all in a few days. I couldn't be happier - Stephen saved my butt and kept my re-model project on-schedule. Stephen runs a family business and there is about 70 years of combined tile setting in his crew - very impressive. Steven poured a concrete slab for our patio. Got it done on time, and it's done right! It's solid, with the right kind of reinforcements (which he explained) and it drains correctly which is why we had it done in the first place. He is meticulous in his work. We had some issues with showing up on time, but I am fairly certain that was due to an unexpected vehicle issue. We'll have him back to do more work on our home as budget permits! Stephen came to my house to provide me an estimate. He stayed for an hour going over some of the possible remodels. He told me that his company delivers on time and can start right away. He also told me he would provide me a bid by that night.... He seemed amicable and helpful. But it's been 4 days and several contacts with no response. He texted me a couple days later saying he would provide me a bid in 3-4 hours and since then, no response. I have emailed, called and texted. This job is pretty time sensitive and he has wasted my time. If he lacks response with a simple bid and does not have the courtesy to respond, then it is telling of the communication I'd have if he was doing the work at my home. I'd also strongly question his estimated time of completion. I'm glad we had issues upfront so I didn't select him to do the work at our home. Tip to Carver Stone: it's common courtesy to respond, even if you can't meet the deadline. It really is best practice. read more

Prompt, curteous, and professional. Stephen did our kitchen stone backsplash from start-to-finish in a couple of days and did a great job. With demolition of the existing tile backsplash, he was careful to preserve as much of the existing sheetrock and limit damage during what is typically a very destructive process. Where the sheetrock was not salvageable, Stephen did a great job cutting and hanging new sheetrock to support the new backsplash. With installing the backsplash Stephen carefully laid out the stones and made very precise cuts. He was also very responsive to addressing nitpicky details we wanted changed. We are very satisfied with the finished result and consider ourselves lucky to have found an opening in Carver Tile & Stone's schedule so we could keep our kitchen remodel moving along. read more

Just like another recent review, Stephen came over on a Wednesday afternoon, spent an hour discussing the tile job - sounded like he knew what he was doing - and said he would have an estimate to me later that day. Instead, however, he finally emailed me a bid for the work late Friday evening - not as promised, a disappointment. However, the bid was reasonable, and hoping this would work out, I called him and accepted his offer. He said he'd check his schedule and promised to get back to me ASAP on when he could start my job. Then the final disappointment: Thirteen (13) days passed without further word from anyone at Carver Tile and Stone. During that time I had three other contractors checking back on their estimates and eager to start the work. Two days ago I selected one with good recommendations about reliability and quality (about the same price as Carver) and the work was begun the next day. Today when Stephen called me to check about starting, I let him know he had lost the job by not honoring his word. He really didn't have any excuse for not for getting back for two weeks, other than he "had some other jobs..." When I started to express my disappointment in a perfectly calm and professional way, he said "fine" and hung up on me. Until this young man learns business courtesy and the value to the customer of being reliable, he will just continue to waste potential clients' time - he sure did mine. It was a disservice to me, he's apparently done it to others and that's why I'm posting this negative review. read more

Had a great experience with these guys a few months ago. I had some bathroom tile that had fallen out of the wall around the fixtures in my master bath, so I took the opportunity to have a plumber replace the fixtures and then needed someone to put the tile back together. I had three different companies tell me that they could not do this for me, after looking at it. It was either too hard a job for them or they would only consider it if they were replacing all of the tile rather than repairing it. Finally Carver Tile came to my rescue, did a beautiful repair job, and threw in re-caulking and cleaning of the bathtub along the way all for a very reasonable price. read more

During the installation of the shower hardie board and tile ,Steven and his crew did not protect the floors.The floors are water damaged.The grouting was not complete.I made the mistake of paying in full, with Stephan's assurance that he would be back to finish the grouting and seal the tile. We have had Stephen owner of Carver Tile & Stone do a few different jobs for us. He has repaired our bathroom tub wall and our tile floor. He did so in a timely and thorough manner, for a very reasonable cost. More recently he used his super artistic talent along with his superb skills in tile setting to create a whole new fireplace facade. We have had the same one dimensional builder grade fireplace for almost 30 years. He sat down with me, listened to my wish list, then sketched a rough draft of what I wanted. It was at that point he began the magic of turning that plain, flat, ceramic tile cookie-cutter style fireplace into a 3-D built out piece of beautiful art using travertine and granite. We had some problems with our old tub surround and had no choice but to replace it and we're so glad we called Stephen with carver tile! He came over and explained in perfect detail the process and what would need to happen to have the shower we wanted and boy did he deliver! I just couldn't Invision the finish product exactly but it came out to be better than anything I could have imagined. Stephen was highly recommended by a family friend who had a custom shower remodeling project that was done by Carver tile. Stephen came to my house and gave me an estimate on some laminate removal and installation of porcelain wood look tile for my living room, entry way and hallways. I also needed my fireplace redone. I thought he seemed like an honest man so I decided to hire him. He returned and tore out my floor and my hearth to my fireplace. He was supposed to return the next week to begin installation of my floors, the day before he texted me that he would not be returning to my job and that he would return my deposit. I was left with no flooring in my living room and entry and hallways. He won't answer my texts or calls and I haven't heard from him nor have I received any money back. I can't tell you how disappointed I am. I had expressed to him a similar problem with a previous contractor and I really thought he would be different. To address what Stephen is saying in response to my review, he is not being completely truthful. He removed 452 square ft. of flooring and he was charging me .50 cents a foot. That is $226.00 and he charged me $ 50.00 for removing my hearth. The total for both services is $276.00 and he did not refund my $224.00. I did not change my job and if he felt that he could not do the job, then he should have let me know that day and not waited until the day before he was suppose to start. Not to mention he shouldn't have taken the extra money. I have no respect for a dishonest person !! I have the text where he said that he would return my deposit in full. read more

We used Carver Tile & Stone this past weekend to do some tile repair on our front porch and house and they were great. They were unable to complete the job on Saturday, so they finished it on SUNDAY. The work is impeccable. I have not worked with this installer but as an installer of high quality myself, and viewing his portfolio, I can say that I would trust him with one of my projects if the need ever arouse. As to the negative reviews I can understand both sides of the occurrences. I have been in both situations. Often times a customer has very unrealistic expectations of costs. Tile is expensive and large jobs naturally lead to large bids. I myself loath the bidding process. Internally I would much prefer to give it all away to satisfy the customer. I trim off costs constantly in my bids and always feel sick about it afterward. In the end if I trim 10% off every bid then I trim 10% off my yearly earnings. Customers tend not to see this side of the coin and thus it quickly becomes a waste of time to bid jobs you know you won't get paid adequately for. It is very tough and inviting a bad review to tell a customer you will not be offering a bid on their project. Everyone wants to please. A bad catch-22. So my advice to this installer is bid every job at 100%, add 10% to difficult bids- or just make up an outrageous number to cover your rear and satisfy your word- and walk away knowing that you're still an honest craftsman. read more
