I've been stoked to try Casa Ama because I'm a fan of Billies Grocery. The idea is Modern Mexican with an emphasis on some coastal options. First off, the place is adorable inside and the staff is fabulous and attentive. We went for a late lunch and happened to land right at the beginning of their Daily Happy Hour (2-5pm.) Their happy hour food and beverage menu is pretty reasonably priced. We tried some of the oysters ($3 during happy hour), the white bean dip with birria and some tacos ($5 during happy hour.) They're also kind to give you complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were perfect, but the salsa needs some work (a *very* mild chipotle.) I think the salsa was kinda of thematically what I found a little bit lacking with the food overall. Things needed more spice, more flavor and more acid. Things felt a bit muted and relied on a cheese that needed more tang. It kind of feels like someone created food having never visited Mexico. The best things I ate here was anything seafood related -- the oysters and Shrimp Tacos. I thought the white bean dip with Birria was a fun concept and presented in a fun way-- but lacked depth or anything making me want to take a second bite. The three tacos I tried were the Smashed Chicken Caesar, an off Menu Shrimp Taco that our waitress recommended and a Carne Asada taco. First off the tacos were huge and I only needed two. Three was a little overkill. The best of the bunch was the Shrimp Taco. I loved the flour tortillas they used (but I would like to have a corn option on a few tacos.) The smashed Caesar needed both more protein and more acid. The carne asada was just kinda dull and relied too much on cheese (that lacked a typical bite you'd find in Mexican cheese.) I wish it had a different salsa. I think having some sort of salsa verde option would help some of the menu items and brighten them up! I very much enjoyed my mango tea too and loved how it wasn't sweet. I would go back to try other menu items or visit during happy hour. Please pump up the acid and depth of flavor. Tried this out since the bae wanted to check it out and it was just OK. While I get and appreciate the idea of a modern Mexican concept, there are execution issues with the food. To start, we had the white bean hummus with birria served with tortillas. Very cool idea but it was missing something that tied everything together. Then, we had three tacos: chicken caesar smash, shrimp and ribeye. Shrimp was my favorite. The wood-fire grill flavor of it was so well done. I do wish it was paired with some lime to give some acidity to it. The ribeye next and the chicken caesar smash was my least favorite. If you're gonna go all in with that, give me a caesar dressing as a sauce. Also, not everything needs to have cheese. Cheese is great but it can detract from the the flavors of proteins. Please, if you're going to have a Mexican restaurant, have more than one salsa. At minimum two. Give me a verde! Oysters were delicious and one of the highlights. Overall, just the flavors across the board needed some oomph especially with prices they're charging. Not surprising given the neighborhood. Service was great and friendly and the space is pretty. I'm not clamoring to go back right away when Kansas City has so many better places serving Mexican cuisine. That doesn't mean I'm not willing to try the other dishes on the menu. What a delightful and fresh take on Mexican cuisine! I am blown away by the food, drinks, prices, and service at Casa Ama. First, our server was prompt, friendly, and efficient. The margarita was one of the best I've ever had, as were the chips and salsa. I was astonished at how quickly our food arrived after ordering during a busy dinner service. Once our plates were set, we were all in heaven. The shrimp ceviche was to die for. Paired with homemade rice crisps and fresh ingredients it was truly something special. I honestly wasn't expecting much from the mushroom tacos but YOWSA they were phenomenal. Flavorful, plentiful, and with the perfect amount of spice-This dish is not just for vegetarians. Fun place to go for dinner or we just had after dinner drink very tenant bartending staff. It was a little light in there so we even asked them to dim it because it was getting late place was huge so lots of seating either casual or family oriented food all great we even got chips and salsa and the guy gave us it to go box so we can take it home. Casa Ama is such a great addition to the Corinth community. The space was previously salty iguana and got a total revamp inside with bright colors and an open concept with a bar and happy hour from 2-5 pm. Our server was quick to get us seated without a reservation on a week night and offered great suggestions towards the drink menu. I got the coconut margarita to start and enjoyed how refreshing it was on a hot day. The chips and salsa came out and were fresh. The chips were warm and perfectly crisp to go with. As my main meal, I got the chicken bowl which came with tortillas and rice (not pictured) the chicken was a little over cooked for my liking and did not have as good of a flavor profile as I would have liked. The yellowtail ceviche was probably my favorite dish - it was in more of a cilantro cream sauce so it didn't feel like a traditional ceviche, but it was very good. The margarita was excellent too. The birria bowl was solid but could have used a verde salsa or something to give it a little more flavor. The queso was baked with sweet grilled onions, which some people will love but for me didn't top the boring old white queso I'm used to. I'm really sad to leave a bad review about this place but honestly the only good thing about it was the service in mine and my husband's experience. Initially we ordered street corn and queso. I'm a lifetime street corn lover and what i ordered was downright inedible. It looked fancy but the flavor was like odorous and made me nauseous. The cheese was okay but nothing special for 11 dollars. we ordered birria bowl and shaved ribeye for our entrees. they gave him about 3 spoonfuls of birria, overpriced, low portion, and it tasted extremely acidic and dry. the ribeye was the best thing there and it was still dry. We ate there yesterday for my birthday lunch. I was so looking forward to trying this restaurant. We were seated on the patio per our request and brought out chips (mostly broken little pieces) & salsa. We ordered a couple spicy margaritas and our server told us it might be a bit because the bartender was very busy. Ok. The salsa was good and it didn't take too long to get the margaritas. They were nice & spicy. We ordered the White Bean Hummus w/Birria as an appetizer. For our lunch my husband ordered chicken fajitas and I ordered shrimp fajitas. Our appetizer came out, looked delicious and likely messy to eat. We had to ask for appetizer plates so that we wouldn't drip everywhere. We got our plates and each had taken a couple bites (the dip was delicious) when a different server brought our tortillas & said the fajitas were on their way out. Maybe it's just me but I like to enjoy more than two bites of an appetizer. I told the server we had just started our appetizer and that I was irritated our mains were coming out so soon. He said he would talk to the manager. The manager came out to talk to us and he apologized and said they would remake our fajitas when we were ready ( I thought this was great.). He came back a little bit later when we were about 3/4 through the app and asked if we were ready for them to prepare the fajitas which we were. Shortly afterwards, the fajitas were brought out on the cast iron serving dishes with no sizzle whatsoever. I wish I had taken a picture because both skillets had this congealed glob of chihuahua/jack cheese that was inedible. The veggies were nicely grilled but both my husband's chicken & my shrimp were dried out. Based on the meat & cheese, we really wondered if they actually did remake our lunch or if the original was just put under a warming lamp. Really disappointed in the fajitas and we probably won't be back given there are so many other excellent Mexican restaurant options to choose from in the area. read more

Tried Casa tonight. Atmosphere was great, service was good and it had an interesting and unique menu. We tried the queso, a hamachi crudo, mole chicken, pork belly noodle salad and the beef tacos. Everything was just fine...all the dishes needed more depth and layers of flavor. A little more salt, more acid just more flavor overall. I fully understand that this style of food is cleaner with less "crap" like Billie's Grocery which I appreciate and love but it still lacks that "wow this is great" factor. read more
