Great food and drinks. Terrible Service. I arrived about 15 minutes before my friend and sat at a table on the patio. The server was friendly and took my drink order. We didn't see her again for at least 45 minutes. I had to ask another server to check on my drink. We waited an eternity for my friend to order her drink and to order our food. A guy came over and introduced himself as our server. Shockingly, our initial server that went MIA, delivered us one of the dishes we had ordered. The food was great but the flies on the patio were insane. Ultimately, we finished our drinks and dessert inside at the bar. That was also a strange interaction. The bartender and our server were both very awkward about us moving inside. Given the service snafu and the swarm of flies, one would think they'd be friendlier. Anyhow, the food was great. We shared the aguachile shrimp, chicken fajitas, enchiladas and tres leche cake. We both had a couple margaritas which were delicious. I'd probably come back but sit inside and hope for a smoother service experience.
I have plans to go to a different restaurant, which I won't name. I showed up about 30 minutes before they closed. A staff member, for lack of a better word, gave me the cold shoulder and said the kitchen was closed. My wife was still interested in getting some tacos, so I thought about where to go. This place came to mind. We had been there before and had a good experience, and when we got here, there were maybe about 15 minutes before the kitchen closed. I believe the person who said to us was also the manager, a really nice lady. She let us know that the kitchen was closing in about 15 minutes, but we were more than welcome to order and we'd be taken care of. Sure enough, we got a nice seat, good ambience, and a great waiter. They got us a seat, gave us some recommendations on the menu. I ended up ordering the Steak Quesadilla along with the complimentary chips and salsa with the three different types of salsa that they have. Came with that. My wife ended up ordering the Soft Shell Crab Tacos. I'll give the quesadilla a 4 out of 5. Great steak flavor, had some other grilled vegetables on the inside. Not as much cheese as I would like, but it had great flavor. The guacamole that came with it was pretty good. I loved the green salsa that came with the trio of salsas. I'm going to say it's tomatillo. I didn't ask. I'm not sure, but it tasted great. Good portion size, really good waitstaff. He took care of us. I was pleasantly taken care of on my side. My wife had the soft-shell crab tacos, nice and fresh, really big portion. She liked my quesadilla, so she went ahead and ordered her a plate of those as well. She only had about half the quesadilla portion. She had to take the other half to go. She did get a pineapple margarita, which she really enjoyed. She finished that completely. We really enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant. It was nice, and I enjoyed myself. The soft-shell crab was a four out of five for the taco. She was a little thrown by the fact that the shell was still on it, which was a whole thing that she laughed with the waiter about. I'll say that we'll definitely be back to try their brunch, which the manager invited us to. If you've never been to this restaurant, you should definitely give them a try.
We really liked TAHA with a couple of exceptions. The chips and sauces were exceptional. Flavorful sauces presented beautifully with fresh chips to start definitely hit the spot. The service was pretty slow for a lazy Sunday afternoon where the restaurant wasn't very busy however the kitchen cranked our order out quickly. We ordered fish ceviche which was awesome, and the cauliflower appetizer which was not. Not at all. Taha was a pricey restaurant, so the service and all the food really should be great. We will try again in the future when perhaps, they work out some of the kinks.
I visited Taha for lunch during KC Restaurant Week and had a nice meal! My friend and I both agreed it's a great spot for a restaurant with Monarch Bar next door. When you walk in the vibes are upscale Mexican, which there aren't a ton of in KC so it's nice to have this as an option. I liked the decor, it felt clean and welcoming. We made a reservation just in case since it was KCRW, but we didn't need it during lunch as it was pretty empty. We were promptly seated and fresh chips and a trio of salsas came out. I was really impressed to get this complimentary and is honestly a selling point for me, as the chips and salas were all really well done. They were clearly made in house and each salsa had a distinct flavor and all delicious. For our lunch we each tried one of the options off of the special menu and both agreed they were solid. My enchiladas could have been a bit hotter (temperature wise) for me, but the beans were great, and the queso and guac were super enjoyable. Overall I'd like to come back sometime, maybe for a dinner and really take in the vibes.
I really wish I could write a better review but I can't. The service was terrible and very slow, the food was just okay and the drinks were nothing special. I got the enchiladas mexicanas for dinner and it was okay. The margaritas tasted like it came from a hole in the wall Mexican restaurant but the espresso martini that I had was good. Our group of 5 was there for over 2 hours because of how slow the service was. Some people did not get their sides that they ordered and that took an additional 15-20 mins to get. They were not busy, our server maybe had 4 tables. The table next to us was also very frustrated with the service and had to get up to find the server so they could pay and leave.
Fantastic dinner! Amazing food! I had Mole Enchilada with rice, and ordered seasonal vegetables as side. Our table also had table side guacamole and salsa and chips. That mole was amazing! I'll be back - the mole and guac makes my mouth water thinking about it. The Mole Enchilada with chicken was so delicious - deep flavor with juicy shredded chicken. The seasonal vegetables included broccolini, carrots, and asparagus - slightly crunchy, just the way I liked them cooked! I also had a La Chimosa cocktail - c a m a r e n a tequila blanco, l i m e, a g a v e, g r a p e f r u i t soda, passion fruit - pretty good. I enjoyed the ambiance - lots of beautiful art on the walls, subtle lighting, green plants, tasteful decorations, table lines, and relaxed atmosphere. We were there on a Monday night - it wasn't busy. It was a great place to go for our business group of five. Servers were friendly, especially the woman at the front as you entered. We had a nice chat while I waited for the rest of our table to arrive. They validated parking in the garage next door - so keep that in mind if street parking is unavailable. Pricing was what I would expect for this nice location. It was $$ to $$$ depending on what you ordered. I would definitely go back and recommend!
First time visit and we sat at the bar. The bartenders were very attentive and the drinks were delicious. An Old Fashion made with tequila and mezcal was very nice and tasted like bourbon with a natural smokiness. The atmosphere was nice and the restaurant has a great vibe. The food was delicious and very flavorful.
I stopped here for happy hour on a Friday because it was a stop on my KC Daily Dine Card. We were able to get a table for two with no issue. The service was very quick and friendly. The vibe is a little bit more upscale than your traditional Mexican restaurant. The drinks were standard - I enjoyed the Paloma. We started with the Esquites. It was a great size even for happy hour. There were complementary chips and assorted salsas. I loved the variation in salsas. For my main I ordered the Tacos de Tinga. The chicken was good and I really enjoyed the avocado sauce. Overall, the food was good, but nothing outstanding. I think this is a good spot for happy hour, but nothing on the main menu really jumped out at me.
Popped in for lunch during KC Restaurant Week. It was busy. The special was a good deal app, entree and beverage for $20. Everything was delicious. The complimentary chips were thick and crunchy. Chips came with 3 sauces: spicy, verde and a mild roja. Two choices for the app: queso and guacamole. Both were good. My companion ordered the enchiladas. It was a small portion but she said it was tasty. I ordered the chicken Milanese torta. It was huge! A breaded chicken sandwich with avocado and onion. It was very mild in flavor so I added the spicy salsa. The telera bread was lightly toasted and so good. The deal also came with a delightful and refreshing cucumber beverage. It was delicious. Service was prompt. The interior was warm and inviting. I'll definitely be back to try brunch and happy hour. They also have weekend specials.
If you want an upscale dining experience, this is the place to go. But if you want authentic food, go somewhere else. Aside from good service - the nachos looked appealing, but the carne asada was very chewy and the chips were hard. The Latin Limeade mocktail had an overpowering lime, salt taste that made it undrinkable.
Order called in and pickup was within slotted time to be ready. It has very chic generic decor, nothing noticeably of Mexican heritage. Enchiladas Mexicanas - all chicken ( pollo) were pretty flavorful not too bold in spices. The refried beans and rice were decent, the portion size was really small. Now, the tres leches cake was a fluffy sponge cake and the included milk mixture was sufficient to pour over.. there were fresh strawberries and blueberries atop of the whipped topping.. quite delicious.
Absolutely wonderful place to go if you love seafood and Mexican food. It was my first time here and it did not disappoint. I got started off with chips and salsa and I received 3 different sauces. Each one extremely flavorful and delicious. I came here originally for the $1 oysters and ended up getting so much more. Wednesday they have a special for oysters and crabs. Crab legs are $20 and they are def worth it. I almost got 2 orders. I also ordered the esquites. It was a lot more food in one dish than I thought so perfect for sharing. The service was wonderful. Everyone was so pleasant and attentive. The restaurant its self is very warm and inviting. Gives you high end vibes with prices that aren't so expensive. Highly recommend.
This was a super yummy meal for sure! Started out with three salsas, they were all tasty but none were spicy. Then had the oysters, while they were delish, I think they were a touch overpriced. It was also interesting they came with a chili crunch oil, it was yummy but messy. I probably wouldn't order oysters there again, unless it was on happy hour. Then I had the trio ceviche which was jam packed with flavor, I loved the octopus. And I added a side of rice, the rice was cooked perfect and also had fantastic flavor. My husband had the short ribs and they were super tender and juicy, some of the better short ribs we've had around town! I had a spicy marg that was ICE cold and absolutely perfect, plus the glass it came in was really cute. Inside was very lovely and cute! They have a patio as well, and a parking garage that connects to it which was nice and convienent for the area on a Friday night. Our server was just okay, could have been better but he was nice. They didn't inform us gratuity was included due to large party size, which was kind of a turn off for us. But we will definitely go back!

Love this Place! We first came here during Restaurant Week and were blown away. The prices are on the higher side, but the quality and flavor make it worth it. The food is fresh, beautifully prepared, and absolutely delicious. When we saw they had an educator appreciation discount, we used that as the perfect excuse to come back. We started with the elote and the octopus ceviche. I'm from an island and it's been so hard to find a good octopus salad here -- until now! It was amazing. For my main dish, I had the lamb both visits. I told myself I'd try something new the second time but honestly, it's just that good, I couldn't resist. My husband had the steak and loved it. Another thing I really appreciate: there are so many options for someone like me with gluten sensitivity. It makes dining here stress-free and enjoyable. Can't wait to come back again! read more
No reservation on a Friday night but we were seated immediately so yeah! The bring out blue corn chips & salsas right away ( the middle one is super spicy!) I went with the chimichanga and it was fillled with cubed grilled chicken surprising and very delicious!!! read more
I finally had the chance to check out a New Mexican restaurant that's been on my list for a while "Taha ". I ordered the shrimp enchiladas which was good. I also tried the house margarita, which was amazing. We started with a simple appetizer of salad and queso with chips, and that was actually really good and spicy. My friend and I were hoping to add on a few extra items like an extra steak taco and another shrimp enchilada for her. Unfortunately, our waiter let us know that they don't allow single-item orders or substitutions--even for an extra charge. You have to order another full entree. That was a bit of a letdown since we wanted to try more of the menu. Overall I would like to come back to check out brunch . read more
Okay so this was my first time here because some friend had eaten there the week prior and enjoyed it. I'll start off by saying I wasn't sure what to expect, But I was very happy that they took me here afterwards!!! We were greeted by a friendly hostess and sat right away. The only two negatives I experience while there were drink issues. The first was that I had ordered the Maize and Smoke, The first ingredient listed in Gin. I about choked when I took my first drink expecting that. We all pasted the drink around and finally asked the waitress when she came back what was in it. Not sure if it was typed up wrong or they changed the drink but its had MEZCAL and NOT gin!! The drink was absolutely a good drink once you understand that. The second issue was we ordered three coffees for the table with dessert All three coffees were a different color. I joked that it was like the three little bears coffee. Dark, Medium and light colored. We ended up just mixing them in a water glass and it was fine. That being said the rest of the night was great!! When the chips and salsa came to the table you get three different salsas and they all had amazing flavors. We also ordered the Guac and it came out with no question of its freshness. You could tell it was just made and had a real good creaminess to it. My main dish I ordered the Swordfish a la Veracruzana, I love swordfish and I was absolutely not disappointed. The sauce that it came with just elevated that fish. 10/10 would order it again!! Dessert was horchata ice cream. Flavors were good and you got two scoops but did lack a little elegance that everything else had. read more

First time here. So didn't know what to expect. My husband planned this date. It's in West Plaza area. They is a parking garage behind it one street over. They do validate parking. So the place is pretty nice inside, great decor. Service was good. You'll see several people for service. The food. WOW. They have many choices. We started with an Octopus Ceviche and Lobster Tacos. I chose the swordfish and he chose the Lamb Chops. I finished with an ice cream and coffee. He lucked Flan. So about that coffee. For the lovre of all things, if you like coffee. ORDER IT! I chose to order it black. It was the most amazing coffee I've ever had. I asked, it's a special blend. I want more. Sigh, I digress. I also had a mixed drink The El Conejo. It's a newscast and was so yummy I wanted another but refrained. Everything we had was delicious. And I'd love to return to try a few other things. read more

We had a disappointing experience at Taha Mexican Restaurant on the Plaza. When we arrived right at opening (11am), we asked for a table for two and were immediately told there was nothing available--even though the dining room was completely empty and we were the first guests there. After the host "checked," he suddenly found a table and seated us, but his attitude felt dismissive and unwelcoming from the start. We began with chips and salsa, which were actually very good. We also ordered two café de olla lattes along with chilaquiles and the chorizo Benedict. Our drinks never arrived, and when our food was brought out, our server Santiago noticed and went to check. I asked him to cancel one latte and just bring the other, but it still took another 10 minutes to arrive. When it finally did, the cup was chipped, making it unsafe to drink from. The food itself was underwhelming--the eggs on the Benedict were overcooked instead of runny as they should be. On top of that, Santiago only checked on us once, and that was just to drop off the check. Overall, the service felt inattentive and the experience didn't match expectations. We left unsatisfied and likely won't be returning. read more

Came here on the 1 year anniversary so the ambiance was incredibly lively! Live music and a full house. The vibe of this place is perfectly curated to bring a high end feel while still feeling homey and inviting. I had the octopus a la parilla, and while the octopus was juicy and tender, the spice level was a bit too much for me and overpowered the flavor. Otherwise the dish was good, and drinks were great. I would go back to try another dish, especially since the actual space was so fun to be in. read more

I like this place a lot and look forward to visiting a second time. I was a bit confused by the menu because from other reviewers photos it seems there were other dinner options to choose from. Maybe if I attend on a different day, I'll get the chance to have a better variety of things to choose from. The service was good and the decor was nice. It's definitely a place to give a try. We were seated at what felt like the worst table in the restaurant, despite the room being nearly empty...it almost seemed like we were being tucked away out of sight. Since it was just two of us, I didn't expect the best spot in the house, but it still felt unnecessarily poor. I later learned there was a visiting Michelin chef preparing a special pre-booked menu. Because we had only reserved the day before, we were given a very limited menu. I truly feel this impacted the quality of our meal. The chicken was tough and dry, the marinated onions had an unpleasant flavor, and while the rice was good, it couldn't make up for the rest. For dessert, we ordered the flan, which was enjoyable but overall, there was no "wow" factor in the experience. What a great little Mexican food spot on the Plaza! Taha was not on my radar, but it was on my friends' list so we decided to check it out. We went during restaurant week, but I decided to order off the regular menu. At the recommendation of our server, I ordered the enchiladas verdes which were delicious! A friend of mine is a big fan of mole, so she tried that out and was very pleased. Also important at any Mexican restaurant -- the chips! And Taha has good ones. Thick and crispy with just the right amount of salt. We each ordered a cocktail and were all pleased. My margarita was super tasty. My only complaint was that our server was a bit inattentive. After our first round of drinks and ordering our food, we had to wave him down for any additional drinks. All in all a good experience! read more

I had the best enchiladas ever today. I don't say this lightly as I have had a lot of enchiladas over the years. We were visiting and decided we needed some chips and salsa and margs. Absolutely everything was done super, super well. From the three different salsas to the fish ceviche to the entrees. My fiancé had the fajitas and those were amazing as well. If we are in town again, we will revisit because not only was the food exceptional but so was the service. read more

We had a family 40th birthday dinner in the private cove it was fabulous! We enjoyed cocktails before dinner a the chips and salsa trio the offer was fun figuring out our favorite the one with roasted vegetables was so good the roasting added a deep level of flavor! The enchiladas were so good! We had a great server she handled the large party with ease! The private room was so nice and made it easy to surprise our guest of honor! The lighting and music was so nice. read more
My visit happened to be on the 1-year celebration, so they had a full mariachi band to accompany our meals, making it for a lively evening. They had complimentary chips & dip, which is always a plus. The Pechuga Napolitana was stuffed chicken breast, which was juicy, flavorful, and made for a healthier meal. Taha is not the cheapest place to dine, but prices are on par for dinner at the Country Club Plaza. The interior feels sophisticated while not being too fancy. I wouldn't go out of my way to return, but the meal served its purpose and filled me up. read more

The lemonade drinks were very good and tasty. Very original flavors. The fajitas and mole enchiladas were delicious. For dessert we had flan and it was amazing. Service was excellent and yes, I will come back soon! read more
Came back to try different menu items. As with a lot of restaurant experiences, some things change and others don't. The food on this visit was just as good as last time, however the service was not. I had called ahead to verify our reservation as I didn't see the confirmation in my email and was told I had a reservation for 3 at 7pm. We arrived 10 minutes early and the hostess couldn't find it. The place wasn't too busy at this time on a Thursday evening so seating us wasn't a problem. After being greated by our server initially, it seemed a long time before we saw here again. We ordered drinks and as we were seated near the bar, we could see that, while there was only one bartender, the bar area and the and restaurant itself was not full enough to justify long wait for drinks. 10 minutes after our server, Jacee, stopped by to apologize for the delay, I watched her at the bar mixing our drinks. While it was great that she could, and was willing to help out, I feel that that number of patrons shouldn't have overwhelmed the bartender. Our food arrived in a timely manner and was absolutely delicious. I ordered the Octopus a la Parilla, which was tender and flavorful. My wife ordered the Short Rib con Adobo, while our friend ordered the Swordfish a la Veracruzana. We all enjoyed our choices and finished our meal with coffee and Horchata ice cream. Now come my last less negative critique. Check out the pics of our coffees. You may, as I certainly noticed, that there was a significant difference among the three cups. There was the Papa bear cup, the Moma bear cup, and the Baby bear cup. One was too strong, one was too weak, and one was just right. When handed my cup, I pointed this out to Jacee, who asked if I wanted another cup, to which I responded that I did. She returned with a different cup of coffee that was just as weak as the first. I mean this looked like a cup of tea. Rather than press the issue any further, my wife and I mixed our coffees together and we're satisfied with the result. Finally after paying and having our parking validated, we walked out the door 1 hour and 50 minutes after arriving, but full and satisfied. While, this visit was not as great as our last one, it was still memorable and we will definitely be back at some point with more friends. read more
Fancy Mexican. I definitely loved this place for the vibes. Decor and ambience were lovely. Staff was very nice. Food was delicious. I love that their tostadas and tortillas are fresh and handmade. They were the true standout. Other than that, food is overpriced. Menu is nothing crazy, just the typical Mexican foods like tacos, ceviche, acuachiles, sopes. Will get more generous portions at a cheaper price at a small, family owned spot. Drink menu was good and bar was great. Will definitely be back for the vibes and some drinks! read more
You wouldn't expect to start an upscale dining experience with corn fungus but here I was at this lovely Mexican restaurant near the plaza in Kansas City and I couldn't resist. The restaurant is self-described as Central-Mexican cuisine with "an American Midwestern connection." I was intrigued. I started my meal with the "Empanada de Huitlacoche" which consisted of "Heirloom maize azul, huitlacoche, Oaxaca cheese, cream de maize" for $14. Fine dining lovers says that "Huitlacoche derives from Nahuatl, a language of the Aztecs, which is still spoken in central Mexico. As Aztec farmers discovered blue-black spores overtaking their corn, they did not worry. They rejoiced. It was huitlacoche, which bestows a rich, mushroom-like flavour and makes for an excellent quesadilla filling." They were brave because if you see this on corn, at least my first thought would not be Oh let's eat that and see what it tastes like. But alongside the Oaxaca cheese, it provides a rich smoky earthy flavor. Definitely a lovely way to start off a meal. The maize azul shell complemented the rich earthy textures of the fungus and cheese. For my main course, I was debating between the Cornish hen with mole and the octopus. My server informed me that the octopus would be a lighter dish, and not being too terribly hungry, I went with that. Let's just say if that's his idea of a lighter dish I wonder how heavy the Cornish hen was! The grilled octopus came with roasted potatoes, a roasted tomato, and roasted morita peppers. Alongside it were two cremas with chipotle and tomatillos. As far as Central Mexican cuisine went, this had a Veracruz influence to it and reminded me of my visits there when I used to visit Central Mexico. It was delightfully grilled, but not overcooked. The octopus was tender. The roasted potatoes provided a nice counterbalance to the Kramer and the tomato with smoky paprika and sweet onions along with the peppers. I was getting quite full after all of this, but I couldn't resist dessert. It's really hard for me to choose between a flan and a Tres Leche, on the advice of my server I went with the Tres Leche, which was incredible. The berries were fresh and flavorful, and came with a little carafe of sweet cream to pour over the cake. Along side of Cortado it finished the meal well. read more
So, I am an agreement with some of the other reviews. Taha is a cute place and as the lights go down, it's beautiful with the candles on the table. However, I do not believe that the restaurant is giving upscale in the way the prices and name reflects. When I patronize an upscale establishment I expect for there to be a dress code. I wore a really nice dress and it was disheartening to see folks arrive in denim short shorts and sandals. Most Mexican restaurants are known for their good food and low price. So, if I'm going to pay more money for a Mexican restaurant, I expect really tasty food. The food here is just okay. Meaning, I don't think it's worth the price tag. I ordered the mole enchiladas and my date ordered the short rib entree, we had queso as well. The food was good just not great. The cocktails were good. I ordered the Dabazzi and The Wanted. read more
