The server told us that some of the meat is raised by the restaurant, and some of it is brought in from somewhere else (I forgot where though) The service was great and everyone was really nice. I came here with my boyfriend for our anniversary after hearing from friends and family that this was the best restaurant in town. Right away we were greeted, my coat was taken and we were seated. We came pretty early in the evening and there weren't many people in the restaurant. I was disappointed to have been seated at a 4 person table in the middle of the room while there were plenty of smaller, two person tables more tucked away which would've offered a more intimate experience in my opinion. We started with the Burrata and M.D. Polenta. The burrata was as you'd expect but the Polenta was my favorite dish we ordered. It had so much flavor and basically melted in your mouth. It was even better to add it on top of the focaccia and burrata! For our main courses I ordered the Tajarin Dalla Forma. It was a fun experience to have them come to the table and spin the pasta in the cheese wheel but I wouldn't say the pasta was anything exceptional. Honestly, it tasted just like Annie's boxed white cheddar Mac and cheese. My boyfriend got the NY Strip (it was $83) and he said it was the chewiest steak he had ever had. It was cooked medium rare as he had requested but there was literally no explanation for how chewy it was. He makes better steaks at home on the stove top. The lobster tail I will say was the best lobster tail I've ever had. Overall, the service was great but the food wasn't worth the price you pay. I'm honestly not sure why this place only has 4.5 stars--but I can attest that most Nebraskans have horrific taste in food. Case in point: Amigos is still in business. I come here for one thing--the steak--and I always order the filet mignon. It is, without question, the best damn steak I've ever had. And that's saying something, because I've eaten steak all over the place, including some top-tier restaurants. I'd eat here more often if it were a bit less expensive, but I also understand that great food and great staff come at a cost. We had an absolutely stunning meal celebrating a friend's wedding here last weekend. The entire restaurant was shut down for the event, and they couldn't not have done a better job. For drinks, I had a glass of delicious Prosecco and also tried the prickly pear margarita - fantastic. We had an assortment of apps served, including things such as fried chickpea, scotch egg, duck on brioche with a rhubarb jam...everything was better than the last! Our seated meal was q probably the single best meal I have ever had. Everything on the plate was so intentional and flavorful. To top it off, service was fantastic. I'd have to say this food is REALLY good. But after we ate, my wife and I ranked our top 3 in terms of dish, venue and here and we both agreed this is firmly at 3. We started off with the morel and asparagus appetizer and it was very good! Our entrees were steak and the hot smoked quail. Again, both delicious. So what was the problem with this food? It was all very one note. When you get a meal at dish you get a complex flavor profile where there are mixes with sweet and spice for instance. Here the quail was good and smoky but they paired it with a polenta that didn't do anything to contrast the smoky meat. So in the end you get a dish that basically just tasted like smoked meat. It was excellent smoked meat but I didn't want to pay this amount of money for something that I could get at a good bbq restaurant. read more

Literally felt like I was watching a food show on TV. Unreal! Service was over the top.

We were in town for the Michigan football (Go Blue!) game against Nebraska and were told that Casa Bovina was a must-try eatery in Lincoln. We had always wondered why the vital beating heart of beef country was underrepresented in the steak category but our experience at Casa Bovina redeemed Nebraska's reputation as the epicenter of world-class beef! Casa Bovina is new and has an understated elegant decor. Warm and inviting, the atmosphere creates for an intimate setting that evokes an evening in Piedmont which is the basis of their menu. We started with beverages and were immediately impressed by the depth of breadth of the drink menu. Since Casa Bovina's vibe is Piedmont she opted for a Barolo - a 2017 Costa di Bussia 'Luigi Arnulfo - which did not disappoint. Bold and beautiful, this vintage had an incredible bouquet and danced on the palate. We need to note that the sommelier was informed, discerning, and cultured. I went for my go-to which a an extra dry Hendricks Gibson up and, to my great surprise, the bar was able to deliver! Perfectly prepared with just the right chill and three cocktail onions swimming in Scottish nectar. (Why is it so damned hard to get a Gibson, I ask you? Thank you Casa Bovina!) For a starter we had the Beef Tartare. This can either be a walk on the wild side or a stroll through culinary excellence and, fortunately, our tartare was the latter. Beautiful Nebraska beef served with a halved femur filled with luscious marrow, roasted shishitos, and dots of sherry gastrique. This appetizer was so incredible we feared that the entrees might be a let down from this amazing dish. But that wasn't the case. She had the 10 ounce center cut ribeye, medium rare of course, which was perfectly prepared, carried a hint of wood smoke, and finished with local creamery butter. Divine. As much as I wanted a steak i couldn't resist the Gemelli. Hand made pasta with duck confit, herbed panko, carmelized onions and topped with an egg from the house chicken coop. The blend of flavors was exquisite and the pasta was perfectly al dente. Dessert is always her choice and she, as usual, it was Creme Brulee. This particular version ranks in the front ranks - a perfect blend of cream and eggs with a table-finished crust. The theme of Casa Bovina is Piedmont because the beef served is from a small number of Nebraska ranches that raise Piedmontese beef. This specialty breed was brought over from northwest Italy to Nebraska. Raised on prairie grass and Ogallala Aquifer water the meat melts in your mouth and puts to shame most other beef. A spectacular fine-dining experience. Our waiter was an amazing source of information as we walked through the menu, which is updated weekly. Each dish and drink has a unique background and story that he was eager to share. Dining is available by reservation only, and they fill up early, so plan in well in advance if you want to visit. Pretty incredible chefs tasting menu dinner with wine pairings left me feeling both elated and strapped for cash. Absolutely on the spender side of dinners around here - plus the drive from omaha. But I would say it WAS absolutely worth the experience. I don't say this lightly as someone who's dined at nice restaurants on either coast and some in the middle, like Chicago. Casa Bovina is one of the best restaurants I had had the opportunity to eat at. My fiancee and I went for an early Valentine's Day meal, and we ordered the 28 oz shared dinner. Our waitress was attentive; our meals came out quickly. The appetizer was the only slight letdown as it wasn't as good as we envisioned. The cheesecake dessert more than made up for it. The small dining room felt intimate. The decor was top-notch. And did I mention the food was ridiculously good? It's not cheap, but the food is worth far more than the cost. What an amazing place. I had one of the top ten steaks I have ever had there. Truly amazing.

It was my first time here and the main beef entrees was a big disappointment. Mainly because it was the emphasis of the restaurant. The bourbon ribeye and the steak flights had identical flavors. The only difference were how rare the steaks were cooked. Unless you spent your entire life eating steak, there was no way you could differentiate between the Nebraska Wagyu and the 45 days dry age. The cocktails on the other hands were great, they taste like juice but in a good way. The oysters were oyster. The grilled octopus appetizer were a bit on a salty side. The highlights of the dinner was the focaccia breads and the 1 free complimentary ravioli. It was quite an expensive tasting menu. The experience was worth for the price and not for the taste. As a designer, I really appreciate the design and decors of the restaurant. Especially, being a certified LEED building. read more

This is a world-class steakhouse, serving Piedmontese beef; completely unexpected in Lincoln, Nebraska. I say that after having lived and dined in New Orleans for 17 years, and having lived and dined in Seattle for the past 30. Prices might seem high for Lincoln, but reasonable elsewhere considering the high quality of the dining experience. Professional and well-trained servers in a pleasant setting which allows the diner to observe the kitchen work. Although not voluminous, the menu offers excellent and interesting choices. Came here on my birthday with reservations, this place is small and very quaint so RSVP early! I believe the menu rotates. I got crab pasta and my husband got a steak. The drinks were delicious and the touch that they add for special occasion is so lovely! The food is 10/5, they season everything so perfect although portion is small you will have room for dessert! While I wouldn't normally make the trek out to Lincoln just for a dinner, I was determined to eat here after hearing all the raving reviews. We figured our anniversary would be the perfect excuse to treat ourselves to an expensive dinner, so we reserved a table a couple weeks in advance (not quite on the actual day of our anniversary because it was all booked!). Unlike for most other restaurants in Nebraska, I recommend dressing less casually here. I'm not saying a dress or suit is necessary (although would be acceptable), but I wouldn't show up in jeans or leggings either. Definitely though, baseball caps are not allowed. The spot itself is easy enough to find, and there was plenty of parking available. Once you enter through the doors next to their market, you go up the stairs to where the hostess/host can seat you. It was an intimate, dim-lit space with a gorgeous bar and an open view of the kitchen. Our waitress was fast to greet us, and she was amazing about explaining all the menu items and giving her recommendations. They even had a nice little note on our table that said "Happy Anniversary!", which I thought was a cute touch. They've got an extensive list of drinks to choose from, and we decided to split a bottle of Bonfante and Chiarle red wine. This wine was the perfect choice and paired very well with our food. They also offered us a complementary glass of Prosecco to celebrate our anniversary, which we of course graciously accepted. Now for the important part: the food. There was a tasting menu available, but we decided to order a la carte. We started with oysters flown fresh from Cape Cod. I don't expect much when eating seafood in Nebraksa, but I truly in a state of shock after trying these oysters. Their salty flavor is something I had been searching for whenever I traveled and had a chance to try oysters, so to find exactly what I was looking for in Lincoln of all places was unexpected, to say the least. Our entrees consisted of the Nebraska Steak (10 oz grain finished center cut ribeye) and the crab rigatoni (with squid ink pasta). The steak was a perfectly cooked medium rare that just melted in our mouths with each bite. The crab rigatoni, although a small plate, had an incredible consistency and briny flavor from the squid ink. The crab and the romesco sauce added a whole other level of flavor the dish, and the brioche crumbs on top gave it a nice crunch. By the time they brought out our burrata and focaccia, we were already full. The dish was too good to waste, so we ended up somehow eating it all. The focaccia bread had a perfect crunch, and the burrata cheese was thick and creamy. When all was finished, they packed up our wine for us to take home and let us take our time leaving. To say I died and went to heaven is not an exaggeration. This is my ghost actually writing this review. In all seriousness, Casa Bovina is the type of fine dining that is difficult to find in this area. Our experience from start to finish between the service, drinks, and food is one that genuinely made our anniversary special. Everything tasted incredible, but the true star of the show was the oysters. Although pricey and saved for special occasions, I want to thank this restaurant and all of those who work there for giving us a taste of heaven. This restaurant is outstanding! I'm traveling through Nebraska on a road trip and was the luckiest girl in the world to have a local tell me about this new restaurant. The general manager was nice enough to give me a tour of the kitchen, which showcases their custom wood fired adjustable grill. I was so impressed that I opted for the tasting menu. Every course was perfectly executed and with highest quality of products imaginable, including locally sourced Piedmont breed beef. I especially enjoyed the home made pasta tossed inside a giant Parmesan wheel of cheese. Not just theatrics, amazing flavors and expertly prepared by melting the cheese with a flaming ladle of cognac. Everything from the amuse bouche to the dessert was fabulous. We have been attempting to get here for several years since opening. Finally this evening after barrel event across street at Lancaster Event Center only minutes ago. So our thoughts of pasta will be surprised here with things we have not done prior. So the food was excellent, real small portions, no bread or anything else. Bare minimums here food-wise and cost is plenty enough for that. Five Stars if we would get more than expected. I'll allow 4 Stars just for food quality which was actually prepared table-side for us. Its been 12 years since I've lived in Chicago and I always miss the food scene there. I was so enthused and impressed the first time I ate at CB. Over two years later, I've lost count how many times I've eaten there. I can't think of anything that needs improving. The food is stellar and always evolving. The estate itself is sleek and reminded me of wineries i've seen during travels. As you ascended to the second floor you're welcomed into the open concept layout. Our server Pat was outstanding, although we knew coming in we were going for the tasting menu - his delicious descriptions really sold us over. Here's my highlights: This place is the complete definition of gastronomic dining. The courses are masterfully thought out and prepared and that's evident in the photos. Each course truly made us sit back and think about what we were eating and to me - is the essence of a true dining experience. The tasting menu frequently changes but i'll tell you we attempted to lick our plates clean each course... Don't expect to finish your meal in an hour here simply because it's not meant to. As a first-timer I wasn't sure what to expect but was very impressed and it made our anniversary so special. The ambiance has a exclusive and intimate feel and it was so neat to be able to watch the kitchen prepare the food from afar. The service was phenomenal and our waitress was so helpful from pairing recommendations to helping us pronounce menu items correctly. The a·muse-bouche was a fun little non-alcoholic gin and tonic served in a shot glass. I highly recommend the other side drink as a cocktail and trying the oysters. The hot sauce served with the oysters is divine and my only complaint is that they don't sell it, because I would've bought a gallon of it. We had the beef tartare and we devoured it before I could take a photo. We also tried the squid ink pasta with lump crab and prawns and it was PHENOMENAL. I'm not exaggerating when I say my husband said it was some of the best pasta he's ever had. We inhaled that before I grabbed a photo too. For our main course we each had a steak, both seasoned and grilled to perfection. Our waitress recommended some fantastic wine to pair them with and her recommendation was spot on. I just wish that there was one or two more asparagus spears served with the steaks. The potatoes were very good and we couldn't get enough. The focaccia and burrata were delicious and since we saved room for dessert, we took half home and it was still super good the following day. For dessert we had the s'mores torte which was divine and just the right amount of richness. Since we were celebrating they gave us two glasses of Prosecco and the anniversary treat which was mint bonbons. They were so light and the perfect way to end the evening. My only critique is that I wish the entire table didn't have to do the tasting menu in order to have it. :( Some might balk at the price but you definitely get what you pay for and then some here. Honestly, the most exciting restaurant in the Midwest that I've visited since 2019. Casa Bovina is a nod to what is happening on both coasts, but those big brother endcaps are still too self-absorbed to notice that the observant other brother is doing just fine and creating masterpieces in the middle of their back -and-forth. Casa Bovina is a place where attention and pride are both on display and proudly relatable. If you're looking for reality-show drama in an open kitchen, you won't find it here... The kitchen is quiet, disciplined, sniper-like in their communications. It's all eyebrows and glances and shoulder shrugs in Morse code until the guy brings out the perfectly tender pasta to a cheese wheel that costs more than most folks' rent. The real drama begins as everyone stops chewing just to see a blue flame in a wheel of cheese-- even if just 10 minutes ago the same flaming wheel of cheese didn't roll up to their own table, same charming and skilled Chef, same pause in attention, didn't just happen to their table as well. And about that pasta that was rushed to the table and finished in the dramatic wheel of Gran Kinara cheese and fresh ground black pepper?! That pasta is fucking glorious . The plating is music, the perfection in cooking to temp is unmatched (scallops were perfectly caramelized and meltingly mid-rare), while the duck breast crackled like the best brûlée, and the meat below wept in released fat onto perfectly warm, garnet breast. Honestly, I haven't even begun to understand what a golden berry is, but I'm convinced it's a magical apricot-cherry type fruit that only exists in the mind of a chef at Casa Bovina-- it's magical!! Dare I mention the pastrami cured medallion of Foie Gras, nestled atop an airy crisp of brioche? Honestly, who even *DOES* that with Foie?! We also sampled the popular favorite (Tajarin), and I'm here to say that it measures up to the hype-- Its a celebration of the simple meeting the skilled, and it's worth it. Every course came with a fresh, attentive reset of our silver and settings, it was so smooth that I didn't even notice the change in napkins, silver or settings-- graceful and definitely impressive by Midwest standards (is this ordinary by coastal standards? Seems this level of service is rare). The wine selection and offerings by the server were excellent-- but he truly shined when he made a fruit-centric mocktail on the fly for my friend who doesn't drink alcohol! He never condescended her by offering just a soft drink; he made her something for her palate, was seasonal and gorgeous, and was thoughtful. Eli at the bar is most talented, kind, patient and thoughtful, again-- it was a much appreciated gesture that he catered not only to those of us drinking wine, but also the friend who wanted something non-alcoholic. Start to finish, this place is worth the time (expect to have a leisurely meal), and the money. It's worth every penny, and it deserves consideration! This is by far the finest restaurant in the Lincoln area. Quality ingredients, quality service, and a wonderful atmosphere. They do a table side pasta service, where a large wheel of Parmesan cheese has been scooped out and hot pasta is dropped in the center and stirred until a wonderful sauce is formed. One order is sufficient for two people. They have unique cocktails that are expertly made, and an outstanding wine list. I was especially impressed by the number of Barberas from Italy they had on the menu. That wine goes so well with most of the entrées. The restaurant is an excellent choice for special occasions, or when you ever want to impress a visitor. read more

I got the risotto of the season which was way too salty I couldn't eat it. They took it off the menu. My husband ordered the gnocchi with bites of meat which he couldn't cut with the knife. He didn't want to complain as I already had to. My son got the tagliatelle pasta bolognese which he tries everywhere all over the world and he said it was ok but didn't have enough sauce so dry. My wife and I went to Casa Bovina for the first time to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We ordered the tasting menu. On the 3rd course, a risotto, my wife pulled a very long black hair out of her risotto. It was not just laying on top, it was caked with food. The server apologized and gave us an 'extra' course for the issue. Not one person that identified themselves as a manager came over to apologize. No discount was taken off the bill. We paid over $400 for a meal that my wife could barely eat because she was so disgusted. Two days later, I received a survey via email for our dinner. I stated the above, and no one reached out to follow up. Two days ago, my wife reached out to Casa Bovina directly, and they have yet to respond to her. Clearly they don't care about customer service. I have waited to post something on Yelp because I truly expected some follow up from them. read more
