First, there is massive construction in front of the hotel that should have been finished last year but the new completion date is TBD. Thankfully, our room faced the back of the hotel, looking out into an interior apartment complex, so we didn't have to deal with the early-hour jackhammering. But if I had shelled out some serious money for the Intercontinental brand and a pretty view of Praça da Liberdade, Porto's main square, and was just looking out at a construction lot covered in tarp, I'd be pretty disappointed. Service here was iffy. When we got to the hotel, the bellboy took our bags and, since the concierge was busy, pointed us to some empty seats nearby; I assumed we'd then be next. Then a line starts forming for people waiting to check in as we're sitting there before we finally realize we need to be standing in the line. We never got much of a "Good morning" or "Have a nice day" from the bellboys, only a very diffident nod. We had a hotel credit and used it at the bar; food was exceptionally mediocre and, par for the course, extremely expensive. Two redeeming points for the hotel: 1. The breakfast buffet was pretty good, with several options and fresh fruit. Still doesn't hold a candle to the legendary hotel buffets in Asia. 2. The location was stellar, easy walking distance to most tourist attractions and the bridges in Porto. That's probably what drives the price up. Wouldn't stay here again.

This hotel has so much going for it…read more.. PRO'S: - excellent location with shops and restaurants right outside the door - a young, enthusiastic and helpful staff. Kudos to the gal who works the front desk (unfortunately, I can't recall her name, but I believe she may be the only female front desk attendant), who so graciously recommended some fabulous restaurants for us! - complimentary Portugese Egg Tarts and port, which seemingly was available 24/7 - a nice sit-down breakfast in a Michelin star restaurant, located in the lobby - a mini fridge stocked with complimentary snacks and drinks - a basic room that did the job CON: All that being said, there's one aspect that was not so appealing, which was the clawfoot bathtub/shower combo. It's literally located in the bedroom, separated only by a partition. Whenever we showered, humidity filled the room, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. I doubt this is a European feature, since I've traveled all over Europe and have never encountered this. Also, the shower curtain definitely needs to be replaced, as it was moldy on the bottom. Yuck! Because of this, I left the curtain wrapped around the outside of the tub, which resulted in water all over the floor. Neither a practical or good set-up at all! To top all that off, the most frustrating aspect, and I'd go out on a limb to say even dangerous aspect of the clawfoot tub/shower in our room, was the fact that the tub wasn't even bolted down. When Hubby was showering, he swore he felt that the tub was sinking into the floor. I thought he might have had too much to drink, except for the fact that he barely even drinks. So, how could that possibly be?!? Upon further inspection, I noticed that the tub wasn't at all stable, and that I could easily push it back and forth. What?!? We notified the front desk, and they fixed it but that was plain unsafe. How could a bathtub be wobbly whenever you moved around in it? That was really an accident just waiting to happen!! If you can tolerate the clawfoot tub/shower I think you'll find this hotel flawless. Just take this aspect into consideration, since you'll be showering everyday, right?!?

The tub was also a huge plus for us because it's the perfect way to soak sore feet after a long day. Stay here!
