My family came to the restaurant after a long day of flying/travel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Restaurant was clean, trendy decor, and had a fun atmosphere. High chairs for my 2 young children were provided. Our food came out lukewarm. After reviewing the menu and tasting the food we ordered, my husband and I were confused about the concept of the restaurant- maybe because there's was too much fusion of cuisines on the menu? Casa Carmen Platillos was my absolute favorite restaurant while visiting Barcelona. I even went there twice (once by myself and the second time I brought my partner)! On my first visit, I ordered the Crusty, soft-textured coca bread with tomato and virgin olive oil. I love that the Olive Oil is brought to the table to use as you wish. The bread was rubbed with tomato and really nice. I also got the Padrón peppers. I'd never had them before and they were tasty. Not at all hot but there were a bunch of them - definitely enough for two or more. I ate a handful of them. Next, I got the Caramelised goat cheese salad with walnuts, crispy onion, cherry tomatoes, mango, and honey vinaigrette. What a great salad! I will be making this at home I loved it so much. And lastly, I got the Chilled salmorejo soup with Ibérico ham, hard-boiled egg, and basil. I loved that soup. It was so fresh and tasty. I thought about that soup the entire trip. On my second trip, we started with the Baked camembert with honey, pink pepper, and crusty bread. It was so good. A perfect start with creamy cheese, the crunch of peppercorns and the sweet honey. I chose the Cod loin with stewed Mediterranean vegetables and aïoli au gratin for dinner. It was excellent. The vegetables were stewed in tomatoes, the fish was tender and flavorful and the au gratin was a rich, creamy topper. My partner got the Oxtail braised in red wine with pureed potato. I don't ever remember having oxtail so I didn't know what to expect. It had a roast beef kind of texture with a brown gravy (not winey at all) atop mashed potatoes. It was different but we both liked it. For dessert we got the Nutella foam with banana ice cream and cookies which doesn't look very appetizing but is a layering of puddings. It was ok. Not exactly what I was expecting. My partner got the Textures of Chocolate: chocolate fondant, white chocolate sauce, brownie, dark chocolate ice cream and cocoa crumble. She had a similar experience. It wasn't exactly what she was expecting but it was a sweet ending. The service at Casa Carmen Platillos was excellent both times. I had the same server on both trips and she was great - very nice and efficient. This is a great, homemade food restaurant. I loved it. read more

Horrible place, I got there at opening time for lunch it was empty, I wanted to sit in a sunny place the hostess refused to let me sit where I want, I kindly told her I wanted to sit in a sunny space and plus it's so empty there is nobody so I don't see the harm, she was so rude and refused, since I'm by self and all the tables where I wanted to sit is only for 3 or more ppl , I was so hungry and didn't want to argue so I just sat my ass where she wanted me, I ordered my food and then I see her letting a lady by herself sit in table of 4, and then another men sit in a table of 4, so the whole time I was eating I had to watch these ppl sit by themselves where I wanted to sit, I don't know if she was being racist or maybe because I don't speak Spanish, I didn't want to make a scene but it made me sad, I ordered one of their starters which was like 9€ and a Pepsi but somehow my bill came out to 25 € I was so tired and jetllegged to argue, so yeah I got discriminated against and scammed at the same time. Stopped here for dinner on my barcelona trip. Being a gross fat American we came for dinner at 7 so t was pretty empty. I loved it. We started off with fried calamari and baby squid with eggs, which we were fooled into thinking was the national food of barcelona. I am not joking when I say I did not see one person eating this combination the entire trip. Anyway, I got the iberian hamburger and I really enjoyed it. This is saying a lot considering up until that point I had eaten ham everyday for a week straight. It wasn't too salty and was flavorful enough. To be honest it wasn't anything special, but it just really hit the spot more than anything else. You've been warned if you get any other entree you will leave hungry. So sad we had dinner here! Service was not attentive or friendly at all! Do not come here For dinner. Drinks maybe, but not food. We really enjoyed our wine and sangria and for the generous amount and price, you can't complain at all! But the food was just terrible. Steak came out so raw had to send it back. It was so tough and so much fat i couldn't even cut into my steak! Burger has this awful texture to it. French fries were nothing fancy but the only thing that we sadly munched on. Had a great meal here recently (at 11:30 on a Thursday night - I love Barcelona). I'd previously gone to the other tapas place on the plaza - it's OK, but the food here is more creative, more interesting, and better executed. Upscale, friendly restaurant within walking distance of the beach! This beautiful setting allows for a great weekend dinner or date night go to. The truffled chicken was devine and the mushroom risotto hit the spot. Plenty of room for big parties though occasionally there will be large groups (four long tables of 15-20) which make the restaurant quite loud and hard to hear. Ate here 3 times while visiting Barcelona. First visit was great as stated above. Second visit was good. Yesterday's visit was sadly a bad experience. The young man, Yuri?, (name on receipt) who served us had a bad ATTITUDE. The restaurant was empty. This was on Thursday, 28th of September. Only one couple seated outside when we arrived. We had a 6am alarm for Friday morning to get up for the airport so we were eating early (around 6pm) to get back and packed. We saw him turn other people away. He tried to turn us away by saying there was no inside seating until 8pm. I wanted my husband to try the amazing dessert otherwise we would have left. My grilled bass was full of bones and limp skin. Complete opposite of my first meal. The sangria looked like he had watered it down or didn't stir it before filling the jug. I'm going to post photos so you can see the difference. The bread that was served with our fish soup was old. I know because I had it on my first visit. This bread was hard as a rock. What a let down. The only thing that didn't disappoint was that dessert!! If you are a cheese & caramel fan it's pretty amazing. I had high expecations of this place due to previous reviews and food in the photos looked really yummy. I ordered chips and guacamole . Guac was fresh and decent, though i prefer onion in mine but i can't believe they brought out stale and ridicously petty pieces from the bottom of the bag. Only when I asked for more did I get normal chips. I also had a salmon dish with a side of grilled zuchinni. This was pretty good and I recommend this dish. The waitress was also very slow, not only to me but I also noticed to other tables even though the place wasnt very busy. Overall decent place but not special. read more

For a restaurant that is surrounded by 40+ other restaurants in the Diagonal Mar shopping mall, one really has to offer something unique to stand out. Casa Carmen does just that. The service is great and the dishes are as beautiful as they are delicious, many of them quite creative. We had the duck breast with pears and mango sauce, grilled foie and candied tuna belly (yes, you read that right). All were exquisite and had such amazing and complimentary flavors. Visited as it was close to the hotel but was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was and what good value we had. We went for mixed starters which were typical Spanish. Started with some tomato bread and ham which was very good. We then had pattas bravas which was one of the best I tasted, the tomato sauce was spicy, ailoli not too over powering and decent quality potatoes. The pardon peppers were good as one the hummus. It was let down by the calamari which was over cooked and rubbery. My main course 'exclusive' burger was very good with a nice piece of foie and was cooked a perfect medium. My wife gilt head bream was similarly well cooked and presented. I had a couple of glasses of house wine which was good and finished with a complimentary liquor. It was international -- it has local cuisine as well as chicken tikka masala (British/Indian), Yakisoba (Japanese) It's not 100% international but it's not 100% Spanish or Catalan either. (It is majority local) Although it is nestled among many chain restaurants, this place is nicer looking with white table cloths. The way to go is to order several small dishes (can be shared, or can be your own), and maybe a soup to make a meal. The fish soup is very good and the gazpacho comes with some bits of iberico ham. Octopus was good, the fried squid was average. Presentation is good. They have an English menu too. read more

We ate here several times during a recent trip to Barcelona. We had absolutely wonderful service from the same waitress each time. The food was outstanding. Standouts included chipirrones (fried baby squid), pimientos de Padrón (grilled mini peppers), tacos de solomillo (grilled steak bites with a delicious sauce drizzled on top), hummus (a great version!), and grilled vegetables with a caramelized, large, flat round of goat cheese. Each meal started with a dish of olives. We also had roasted vegetables with burrata, which was a wonderful dish but honestly, just too much burrata. Truly excellent and in true Spanish fashion, we were never rushed through our meal. This place is a real find. read more
