This restaurant is within walking distance to the Best Hotel 4 Barcelona. We ordered the roasted baby lamb leg, beef cheek and the seabass. All three dishes were good. The lamb leg was tender and juicy. The beef cheek was super tender and the potatoes were perfect partner for this dish. The seabass had nice sear marks with lots of roasted vegetables. The seafood croquettes were nothing special and they were very small. We enjoyed a nice bottle of red Ramon Bilbao. The server was polite and kind. The overall dining experience was superb and we enjoyed our tine here. If you are looking for somewhere to try some excellent grilled meats and seafood look no further. read more

Raco de la Vila's decor is traditional Spanish and is a great place for a celebration. The restaurant is broken up into several smaller dining areas giving a feeling of privacy throughout. The kitchen is also broken up so each area gets to watch a different food prep process. (We watched the Jamon iberico station. Yes, we ordered some as well.) The dress code is casual. We knew we wanted the tastes of Spain and so for mains ordered a seafood paella and stone grilled salt steak. Along with the jamon, we had the local bread (toasted) and seafood croquettes for starters. This was accompanied by the house rioja (red). The jamon is melt in your mouth delicious. The bread can't be beat especially since it comes toasted. Even better is to add crushed tomato spread. Most surprising was how well the seafood flavor came through in the croquette, excellent. The paella is one of the better I have had recently. Many places rush the process and burn the rice, not at Raco de la Vila. Great place to try this classic dish. The stone grilled steak came to the table partially cooked and then the diner finishes it off on a sizzling hot stone. it was great fun and the meat is fork tender. We were pleased with all out selections. The staff was attentive and cleared dishes promptly as well as bringing the next course to the table. We went to this restaurant because we had heard that they had the best paella in Barcelona. If that's true then Barcelona must have the worst paella in Spain. The rice was still crunchy but looked burnt at the same time. My husband ate it but was very disappointed. I had the grilled chicken breast served with French fries and charred padrón peppers. The chicken was overcooked and under seasoned. But - the fries and peppers were great! We started with their tomato bread and garlic aioli. I would definitely recommend the bread, fries & peppers. We have been coming to Racó de la Vila for nearly a decade; every time we pass through Barcelona it is a must stop for every member of the family. The service is always impeccable, helpful, offering suggestions, and best of all they really help to make sure you've ordered the right amount of food for the table. We adore the steak on a rock dish (flame kissed steak, sliced, and served with salt and a piping hot stone so your slices are cooked to your preference). The tomato bread with garlic aioli and the house sangria are musts and personally I leave Barcelona 20lbs heavier in Iberian ham. There are so many dishes to recommend, just try them all! The atmosphere feels like you are coming home to a relatives house. It's quaint and is part and parceled into rooms, making it surprisingly larger than it appears from the outside. I could make this review short and sweet. This restaurant is fabulous. But I will add more to this. It was our first time here. From the beginning, we were received and were sat on our table, the staff was very attentive and engaged. We had the scallops and the buñuelos de bacalao (codfish) as appetizers. Our waiter was Maury.. You will be lucky if you get him. The appetizers were excellent. Maury and the rest of the staff would stop at our table and were always making sure our experience was to our liking. They were not intrusive at all and were very engaging and interesting. We also had the Cava sangria. Excellent. My wife and I both ordered the Meloso Rice with Bogavantes (Maine lobster with soupy rice). It was excellent. They were big portions and the prices.. very reasonable. Oh geez.. it was so good. We were more than satisfied. We had 'Coca de Llavaneras' for dessert. It is the house main dessert. Oh God!! It was fantastic. It was a new experience for us. We never had this before. Just phenomenal. We were treated with a 'Crema de Orujo' cordial (similar to a Baileys cream) to end the night. They even called a taxi for us. I will no doubt return to this place. If you check, I don't think I have ever left a review before, but this was so worth it. Would come here for the seafood, but would go elsewhere for the meat. Seafood was delicious, juicy, and fresh! My favorites were the scallops and razor clams. Meat was meh compared to some of the other restaurants we went to in Barcelona. I didn't take pictures of them but the steak was a little dry and the sausage tasted like a heated packaged meal rather than freshly cooked. Ambiance is rustic. Service is attentive. Every table gets olives and tomato bread without prompting at least during dinner time (I forgot to check if they added this to our bill). Larger than expected and homely experience. Wouldn't say the food is amazing but it does the job. For drinks we ordered the cava sangria (beware it's sweet, but strong). We fell in love with Spain's tomatoes so we, undoubtedly, had to order a tomato salad. Solid, not the best. The pan con tomato was alright, accompanied by garlic aioli. Unfortunately we didn't get to try the suckling pig as they were out, so our waiter suggested the lamb. I'm typically not a fan of the "gameyness" but the roasted lamb here was cooked pretty well. The cannelloni was more cheese than anything. Overall, if you're in the neighborhood I'd recommend this spot over the other restaurants lining "poblenou Ramblas". 3.5 stars would be my rating but rounding to 4 for the experience. read more

So close to a great experience but went south real fast. Made reservations and the restaurant was near empty, then it got busy quickly. Put our orders in and the food was good. The tripe was great and the mussels excellent. But the service was terrible, inattentive and ultimately rude. First we were given toast with tomato when we didn't ask for any, fine. Second we never received an appetizer and it still showed up on the bill. After finishing my one glass of wine no one came and offered more or even took the glaringly empty glass away. Then I tried to ask for tap water, Barcelonas no tap water policy notwithstanding, only because the woman behind us had it served. The first time I got bottled water but no, that's not what I asked for. The second time I was just ignored and the third time, when we sat at a table full of empty dishes for 20 minutes, I was flatly told they don't do that. It's a beautiful restaurant, but the service is garbage. You may get lucky with a different waiter. As for the rest of the food, the sea bass was good but overpriced and the steak was just awful. Old school Spanish restaurant is the best way to describe it. They are cutting iberian hams in the front right when you walk in. Looks delicious. We however were tired of eating iberian ham at this point in the trip. We started with the shishito peppers which were delicious. We also had the artichoke which were a little oily but also good. They have a whole array of different items on the menu. The paella was also pretty good. It is a nice sized portion and the rice is cooked perfectly. We also got the cannoli in some white sauce that was a little heavy but satsifying. For dinner they have steaks and different fish dishes. I cant remember what I had for dinner but all I remember was that it is a serviceable meal. They also have featured wine on the table that you can drink. Not sure if it is a promotion or a friends winery but it was good. We kept it simple and just had that. Overall, Raco was a cool place with solid food. I think we were a little underdressed (shorts) but we'd just flown in, but after ordering some appetizers and drinks, they got to liking us. VERY large appetizers....be warned! Check out the meat tray...and we had calamari, too. The ox tail was excellent as was the catalina tuna. Overall, I'm giving it a 5 just on the food. Very much recommend. Our hotel made reservations for us before the Springsteen concert last night. We were sat in the front entrance and were ignored by the server. We attempted to speak Spanish and he rolled his eyes and was not helpful in our order process. We enjoyed our food and conversation and after asking for the bill a few times... it came with a "lousy customer" in Catalan, as a line item and then charged us for double the wine and water we consumed. Had reservations for Xmas dinner. Unbeknownst to us, they had a priced fix menu. It contained pan de coca with longaniza for aperitif. For pica pica, it was paletilla 100% iberica, calamari, croquettes, tuna tartar gambas, pulpo, and zAmburinas. For Segundos we oicked the lamb and pork. This was a dinning highlight in Barcelona. Needed a reservation as it filled up quickly as the night went on. We were seated at 8:30 and we didn't finish until after 10:30. We never felt like we were waiting. Service was spot on. A nod and they were at the table. We ordered two appetizers a white asparagus tempura with an espresso creme and a cheese "cannoli". The asparagus were large but tender. I liked the different taste of the espresso creme, my wife did not. The tempura was a bit wet due to all the water in the asparagus. The cannoli was super rich. Thankfully the 8€ bottle of wine cut right through it. We also ordered the bread with garlic aioli. The garlic spread was great with everything. My wife ordered a ribeye which was huge. In ordered a Mediterranean Sea bass grilled. The server showed me a whole cooked fish then proceeded to debone it of to the side. Fancy!! I only ended up with 2 pin bones. I thought he did a great job. The portions, as you can see, are large. Menus in multiple languages. The place is deceptively large. Small entrance but seating on to levels. The Hilton concierge recommended the place and made our reservations. I highly recommend this restaurant. I almost forgot, we were so stuffed we had to have an after dinner aperitif. I ordered the Grand Mariner. I was asked about an ice cube and said yes. He poured it at the table and said ... say when. We had about 3 oz for the standard price. I wasn't expecting that. A gem off the beaten path. We were only in Barcelona for 3 days and I am so happy and over joyed that we made the decision to stop here after our Long Beach day - it is about a 15 minute walk from the beach depending on which beach you are at. If you can see the McDonalds - that was the beach we were by. The service is phenomenal, prices at first seem high but honestly, its worth it!!! Ordered the bread - which at every Barcelona restaurant will be a few bucks per person, but this is probably the best bread that I have ever had in my life. The bread is the served with his olive oil and garlic spread that they made - which is amazing!! Trust me you won't be disappointed in JUST the BREAD!!! $2.5 per person. Ordered sardines over toast, never had sardines before and it was delicious!!! ($8 for an order) Ordered the Tuna tartar - eh not the best (skip it). Ordered the grilled pulpa and OMG. I don't even know where to begin because it was at least a 5 lb, giant grilled octopus and it was seared and seasoned to perfection. It was a very very fresh octopus and hats off to the chef because the first bite melted in my mouth and it was so delicious that I could have continued to just feast on octopus and never looked to try anything else! I was hoping to see if I could figure out the seasonings so that I could duplicate this, but there is no way I could get such fresh seafood back home. The octopus I believe was about $16. Ordered the Paella! Order it the moment you sit down, because it takes them about 25 minutes to prepare and it is definitely worth the wait! This was the BEST paella that I had and it was phenomenal. For the price, which was very reasonable about $18 is worth it over any tourist restaurant that we tried which was subpar. I strongly recommend this restaurant to be part of your Barcelona trip! Make it a point to go, with amazing service, great ambiance and amazing seafood - this is a perfect way to end or begin your tour of Barcelona. read more
