In short they gave me an estimate of $8.00 for 5 small rolls of different colored electrical tape with 1 small white one in. OMG I was appalled. Disgusted with Yelp I turned to Google and found the Little River Building & Home Supply store. It wasn't far from this ACE Robbery store. I did not have high hopes as I had never heard of this place and it seemed to be off the beaten path for sure. It was 4:30 in the afternoon on a Saturday, and like most places in Little Haiti I was expecting it to be closed or be closing soon. I pull up, and pull in, and behind the counter, to me; (which to you may seem odd), is two medium framed, Italian Middle Aged ladies who seem to mean business. One lady clearly runs the store, the other is either family, or is just providing company. I obviously seem exasperated because the one Italian mafia looking middle aged lady asks me how she can help me, which I think is quite refreshing in Little Haiti, but anyway, I tell her I am desperately looking for white electrical tape, a feat that seems to be elusive as finding Dom Perignon on 54th and NE 2nd Ave. She turns away from me and I think, yeah they don't have it either, I should probably should just look online. She turns back to me holding a large roll of white electrical tape and says, "here we go". I look at her like she is definitely the Italian Mafia. I ask her how much. She says; "$3 dollars". Well that was that right there. Like someone out there said; it's all in the little things. It damn well sure is. I have been back three times since. The Owners name is Laguna. I don't think she's Italian. I have never had the audacity to ask. I think she has some handsome sons though, and I think perhaps they put in a shift or two at the store, but I think on the whole she works herself to death there. Her husband died years ago. She told me she knew more than her husband did, and I believe her. I once told her about a speaker wire project I was doing and she asked me I about the points I was using. I had never heard of a point but I had seen one. I just never put two and two together. I told her about the silver mirror that was hanging by a miracle and a wisp of air, she scolded me on the chosen anchor and educated me on the correct anchor as well as the overall use of the stud finder while I was trying to find a stud finder app on my IPHONE. What I can tell you if you're a Man - I mean you must be reading this for something informational enough to want to go to this store, is that their 80lb cement bags are $6.90 each, and it doesn't matter how much you want they have it on hand. They have the best selection of wood around and on top of the complimentary popcorn while you shop they also have a food truck outside to make sure you dont leave hungry. It may be a dollar or two more than some other home improvement places around but you will leave much happier and that most times is worth the cost. Something I absolutely hate as a consumer is walking into a store and, before I've even taken two…read moresteps inside, someone is already asking if they can help me. While it might seem polite, my experience has taught me that when they bombard you like that, it's either because they're watching you like a thief, or they're desperate for you to leave because it's a holiday, they're closing, or they simply don't want to work. Every time I go to this Ace Store in Brickell, it is a different issue. I went yesterday and the same thing happened. As soon as I walked in, someone asked, "How can I help you?" When I explained what I needed, the employee's expression immediately soured. He looked angry and led me to a line where he called over another person who had no idea what I was talking about. That person called someone else, who then called a third person. That third person was the only one who could somewhat help, but within three minutes, he became visibly annoyed. He wouldn't listen to my explanation, ignored me, and kept looking away. When he finally understood what I needed, he made a bunch of excuses, claiming the store didn't carry it or that the item didn't even exist. In reality, it does exist and they do carry it, but he actually recommended I go to their rival, Home Depot, saying they had more variety. It is shameful that a store like Ace Hardware , which is filled with such a great variety of high-quality merchandise, hires such depressing, disrespectful, and lazy people. To make matters worse, I have to go back and return the part now because the man didn't listen to me and gave me the wrong item. When I went to pay, the cashier was too busy chatting with a coworker to notice me. She just handed me the item and the receipt without even offering a bag. When I said thank you, she didn't even respond; she just kept talking to the other employee,I I stopped at the door and said "thank you" again very loudly. The man she was talking to started laughing, and she finally said, "Oh, thanks, you're welcome, honey," only because she was embarrassed. It is honestly depressing. If you bring in any kind of screw, they measure it and they are able to bring you something identical, or as close to what you need as possible. Customer service is good, if you deal with this one guy who sits in the far left corner, he has yet to disappoint me with any of my purchases. Others have not understood me, or my request because of their limited English. That was my only frustration with this place. They do carry some tools and other supplies but I've only ever gone there for additional screws or bolts that I've lost and need to replace.
