Very disappointing from the moment we walked in the door met with attitude just trying to get a table. Informed my group would all have to be there before we could be seated so we would not be wasting space and tables in their restaurant. Granted there was was no one there barely. Then tried to sit in the bar until all 11 of us arrived waiting for a table. Informed by staff and owner we would need to drink if we were going to sit in there since this causes excess work for the staff to have us sit in the bar initially. The owner then told us we should have called ahead with the exact number in our party. We did call ahead to be told they don't take reservations. Then after waiting and a few more people in our party arrived told by owner we could finally be seated. This of course was breaking the rules of only being seated after everyone was present in my party. The owner blamed his rudeness and lack of costumer skills on Covid and being short staffed. I have loved this place for several years but more than likely will not be returning here. Kindness and respect go a long ways the atmosphere here was lacking both. One person in our party has significant health problems. He surprised us by even being able to attend to be treated so poorly. You might want to reconsider your RULES. read more

Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. They serve "chimichangas" that are like gas station taquitos. Terrible drinks. My child didn't even drin his virgin strawberry daiquiri it was so bad. The salsa is just tomato sauce. Their $3 side of guacamole is store bought guac and maybe two bites worth. I'm in town for one of many business trips here and not only will I never go back, but I'll never bring a customer here or recommend they go because I value my reputation too much. read more

I picked this place after reading the reviews, I thought it would be good. I was sorely disappointed. Chips were good but the salsa was not great, too much tomato sauce. I ordered the sirloin tip in green chili dinner which came with Mexican rice and potatoes. The rice did not have much flavor other than tomato sauce. It did not taste ethnic Mexican rice which was what I was hoping for. The sirloin tip was supposed to be served in chili Verde. My mother's chili Verde is much better. The potatoes did not look appetizing, I did not even try it. Overall, very disappointed, I will not be coming back. read more

Chips were cold and the salsa tasted like it was out of a jar. Service was slow and there was no acknowledgment from the waitress. If you are looking for Mexican dishes with lots of guacamole and sour cream, there is not much of it here. We went here last week, thinking that because our radio station gives out gift cards to this place all the time that it must be good. Boy was I wrong. Immediately upon entering, the person who greeted us was rude and gruff. She seemed like she was about ready to lay into us for no reason and she made me extremely uncomfortable. It set an awful mood for the meal, I was completely offset. They bring you salsa in what looked like a large syrup dispenser and it was obviously store-bought. I ordered a quesadilla and my husband the chicken queso chimichanga. He enjoyed his food but I did not. The tortillas were burnt and crispy and the cheese chewy. For the price, it wasn't worth it at all. Our server barely came around and she seemed like she wanted us to get out of there. Just an overall uncomfortable experience, I will NEVER be back. Mexican food should not have cheap yellow cheese. The salsa was more like a puree. The margaritas had too much triple sec and the salt was strange and flavored. Impolite waitress and hosting staff, awful chips, and we have had to ask for basic service for things such as water refills, more chips and silverware. The queso dip tasted like it came out of a Tostitos jar and they were out of basic menu items, which was not mentioned until we ordered our food. A Mexican restaurant should have authentic Mexican food unless otherwise advertised as over-Americanized 'Mexican' food. The food and drinks are extremely overpriced for the quality of the ingredients and taste. if you want basic, cheap, Tex-Mex styled food, go to Chilis instead. read more

I have never been disappointed after a visit to one of my Sioux Falls favorites. My wife and I like to split an order of fajitas and have always been very pleased. Salsa was ok and chips were decent. The entree was average. The kicker was that I asked my waitress if my meal came with guacamole and that I didn't want to pay their high price for an entire side portion. It seemed like she understood my request, and it appears I would get a small portion included with my meal. But, when I got the bill, I got charged for a full order. But it gets worse. Well we sort of ate at Casa Del Rey today. First and last time that my wife and I will ever go there. The food was the Worst so called Mexican food I have ever had. We lived in New Mexico for 11 years, and we know what the food should be like. The food was boring, flat, tasteless, and just horrible. I sent my plate back after only 3 or 4 bites. My wife ate most of hers, but it was not tasty in the least bit. I would not recomment my worst enemy to eat there. And as far as my wife and I go, we will never return there. I've eaten here since I was little. I love the free chips and salsa! It may not be as authentic as a place like Puerto Vallarta but I love it. I usually get the original chimichanga but I'm trying the chicken queso chimi tonight. Also love the sopapillas with cinnamon & sugar with honey! Having searched for good Mexican or Tex Mex in the Sioux Falls areas since moving here two years ago, I was hoping Casa Del Ray would finally be the answer. Alas, no luck. While the restaurant had a decent crowd and the atmosphere is nice (decor, no mariachi music blaring, etc), the food was very poor quality. Son ordered kids quesadillas with rice, wife ordered a chimi, and i ordered a burrito with beef. Nothing tasted particularly fresh, just microwaved. Following the typical crumby Tex Mex restaurant standard, the burrito and chimi were covered in a mountain of melted cheese and red sauce. What better way to make bad food taste better?!?! I called for an order I wanted to pick up. I asked for the pork fajita burrito and a side of guacamole, The person on the phone was confused about a side of guacamole. It is in the menu listed as a side of guacamole for $ 2.65. Once I got the server on the phone to understand what I wanted, I asked how long before I could pick up, She said 5 or 10 minutes. We waited for 10 minutes before anyone ever noticed we were there and the host was wearing sweatpants to start - not my idea of an appropriate uniform. She was rude and became irritated when we didn't want to squeeze 5 people into a booth made for 2. There were plenty of free tables, just needed to be cleaned. Highly recommended! We had a great experience. The food was fresh and we all enjoyed our meals. We were seated quickly and our waitress was 5 star! On our walk back to our hotel a truck pulled up beside us and the restaurant manager handed our 4 yr old back the bracelet she had left behind. I never write reviews but I need to comment on this restaurant so people don't make the same mistake. My husband and I are from IA. so we read comments and based our choice on the ratings. It is a nice place and it has Spanish music which gave us a good first impression. However once they brought the chips and salsa we started to change our mind salsa was NOT home made it was just chip dip from store. When our food arrived beans were very DRY like they were from day before, the rice was not Mexican at all. And burritos were not good at all we took a couple of bites and could not eat the rest and asked for our check. Service is good and our waiter was very nice.
