    Chicken burrito
    K O.

SIOUX FALLS, SD This yummy restaurant is in a strip mall. It is not a stand alone restaurant. Really good food. Portions are large. I ordered a combo plate with a chicken burrito and a chicken enchilada. I chose the queso sauce instead of green. It cost $1.00 more but worth it. When we ordered, the waitress informed us of the charge before she placed our order. I really appreciate that. So many times there is a surprise at billing. Although with this said, see my last comment at end of review. My husband ordered the chicken chimichanga. Both dishes had a lot of chicken and it was very tender. The only complaint about the chimichanga is it was not deep-fried for a crunchy outer tortilla. It was more like a burrito. One of us ordered the black beans and the other the refried beans. Neither were impressive. The rice, however, was very delicious. Very small rice with a few carrots and good flavor. The staff was very friendly. They seem to run efficiently as when a table was done, they immediately cleaned it. Ordered a draft beer and when it came, it was extremely large. I thought I had asked for a small, but I was informed that there was only one size. It was very cold and refreshing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has booths that line the wall with tables in the center. When you walk in the restaurant, there are a few tables in the front area, and additional seating on both sides of the foyer.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My only concern was when we gave our credit card to pay. We were charged a small fee for not paying cash. Certainly not a problem, however, I did not see that listed anywhere on the menu nor informed of it by the wait staff. The chips and salsa were delicious. I would definitely come back to this restaurant if I were in town.

Went to eat here on a Friday night with no wait time. Food was great. [[HIGHLIGHT]]More traditional style Mexican restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Prices weren't cheap but still fair. Service was fast.

    Number 33 and Aztec Burrito

We thought we would try this restaurant, because some of the reviews were promising. The restaurant is located in a popular area, and it was busy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior of the restaurant is decorated beautifully.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was slow. Super slow. They had plenty of staff but most of them were just standing around the kitchen. The salsa was delicious. It had good flavor and that's where the flavor ended. Nothing, I mean nothing had flavor after that. I ordered a number 33, the first thing you notice when they bring it out is the chimichanga is dry. No cheese. No sauce. Just some sour cream and guacamole if you want it. The cheese enchilada was cold. Rock hard and cold. Which is strange because you could tell the plate had been under the salamander and it was hot. The rice had no seasoning not even salt and the beans had no seasoning either. My husband ordered the Aztec burrito, again it was bland. No seasoning. Salt and pepper are on the table and it didn't help season anything. The one shinning star in these plates was the vinegar slaw that they added it was nice. The cost for the food and a beer was $50.00 with a tip and I felt it was a complete and utter waste of money. This restaurant may have had an off night, or they may just not season their food. Either way, I won't be back.

What an amazing find! I was pleasantly surprised by what we found here. The food was great and the portions were insanely huge. This quickly became a not one and done type of place. We went back the next day. Lol. The mixed drink was not all that but maybe it was just the choice I tried. Both the service and the food were amazing. This is a place I will definitely be returning to without a doubt.

I can say I've eaten here twice, about four years between trips, and I have no regrets about either visit. Azteca's menu is huge and I firmly believe there is something for everyone within it. The meal starts with complimentary chips and salsa, which the salsa was really good, not too chunky, a nice spice level, etc. I ordered the Sunrise Enchiladas (or something like that?), which if you've been following my recent yelping, I've been into enchiladas topped with fried eggs, because who wouldn't be? I chose cheese for the filling, again, meatless and just delicious. The meal was three enchiladas in red sauce topped with two fried eggs, served with rice and beans, and I ate everything except the small bit of coleslaw, but coleslaw just isn't my jam. The portion was huge, but I still ordered the fried ice cream. I had been craving fried ice cream since last week's trip to El Paso, and I was happy to give in to the craving at Azteca. If you find yourself in Sioux Falls looking for Tex-Mex, look no further. Also the staff was super friendly! And just nice, which is always a plus.

Came in here for my birthday because it was the only place that had oysters and we drove up from Yankton. The food was alright but the service was absolutely terrible. I'm a bartender and I've worked in the service industry for a while (before and after the military). I have no problem leaving 20%, 30% even 50% tip if the service is excellent. But this Friday was ridiculous. 1.) the restaurant was not busy, only one half was being used, there was 5 tables, and the server still took forever just to take our order. 2.) the server, who's name I forgot, (older Mexican guy with tribal tattoos and a pink shirt) never came back to check on us and I could see him joking around and talking to the other server. 3.) when he finally came back and asked if we were ready for the check I said yes please, can you add a dessert to go and asked if they offered Veteran discounts, they did. 4.) since it was my birthday, my wife was going to pay for the meal, he came back and said her card was declined (which made no sense because she literally had just used it before we came in) so since her card was "declined" I paid with mine. He took forever to come back to the table with my card and the receipt when he finally did he didn't bring the dessert. 5.) So we sat there for another 15 minutes just waiting for the dessert. Finally I had enough something was off and I told my wife to check her statements. SHE HAD BEEN CHARGED TWICE! I looked at my statements and I had also been charged TWICE. 6.) luckily I caught that in time and a gentleman who appeared to be the owner was there, when I told him we were waiting for the dessert he went into the kitchen and got it out in less than two minutes. He apologized and I told him about the quadruple charges. The server then went into the computer and voided the transactions saying it was a "technical error" which I call BS Si el vato en serio necesitaba la feria, mejor le hubiera echado ganas a su jale y yo la hubiera dejado una propina buena. Pero desafortunadamente así son los paisanos con otros paísas

I'm from Chicago visiting and I was impressed. Steak tacos are amazing. Not low quality steak at all. A must try.

Tried Azteca tonight for the first time, recommended by our son. Definitely will be back again. Big portions, good service and my husband loved their habanero salsa. P.C.

Just moved to Sioux Falls from San Antonio. My wife & I were pleasantly surprised by the food & the wide variety of the menu. We'll be back!

We usually clean our plates but not tonight

Worst Mexican food ever. The lukewarm beer was the best part of the visit. We usually clean our plates but not tonight

    Amazing taste. Lasted two meals.

By that point I was already seated and committed, but that's something I wish I'd checked beforehand. Because of that, I intentionally ordered something that would come out hot. Wasn't about to order a salad or anything that didn't need to be cooked. So I ordered the fajitas with chicken, steak, and shrimp. You know how fajitas are supposed to come out sizzling on a hot plate? These didn't. They weren't cold, but you could definitely tell everything had been sitting back there for an extended amount of time. They didn't taste fresh at all. And it gets worse. Every time I've ordered fajitas with cheese and bacon anywhere else, you get solid melted cheese and crispy bacon. Here? Runny cheese sauce and bacon that had zero crispiness to it. The whole thing was a mess. The meat portions? Ok the pieces were cut up small. I was picking through all the vegetables and onions trying to find actual pieces of chicken and steak. A lot of peppers and onions. The Verdict: Plaza Azteca was a miss. The margaritas were decent but the fajitas were a lukewarm, runny, disappointing mess with small pieces of meat. Combine that with odd service and some concerning health reviews, and this is a two star experience at best. Won't be going back.

We were both in the mood for Mexican, this was very close and the ratings looked good. The bar looked impressive as we walked in and after we were seated, we started with 24oz Margaritas (see picture) to accompany our free chips, salsa & white sauce (see picture). While the Margaritas were quite large, we both commented that they seemed a bit weak on the alcohol (or it is possible that they used Reposado tequila with less flavor). My wife decided to order the Combo #2 (pork tamale, ground beef enchilada & ground beef hard shell taco - see picture) while I went with the street tacos - Carnitas (pulled pork), Pollo (chicken) & Al Pastor (spit-roasted pork). We both enjoyed the Combo, with my favorite part being the pork tamale. I'm a big fan of corn tortilla street tacos and found them all to be very good - but my favorite was the Al Pastor. A quick Google search indicated that Al Pastor is a spit-roasted pork influenced by Lebanese shawarma - marinated and then cooked on a vertical rotisserie. This carmelizes the edges, resulting in a savory, tangy and slightly sweet flavor. Whatever the science...I found it delicious! If you found this review helpful, please Share, Follow & Like.
