I ordered the meat calzone with jalapeños added and the mussels marinara ! The food was alright I will say I really want to try the pasta or maybe the pizza next time! The calzone wasn't really what I expected the meat was barely present inside the calzone very little jalapeño and pepperoni I was expecting for there to be a lot inside but it was mainly bread and cheese sadly. We stopped by for dinner since it was right down the street from an event we attended. The place don't seem like much outside but once you walk in the decor is warm and welcoming. We were seated right away. We decided to order spaghetti pomodoro with meatballs, NY style cheese pizza, and side of fries. The spaghetti was a hit with the kids but wish it came with more than two meatballs. The pizza and fries were decent. I think this place is great for family dining. The service was bit slow but the staff were friendly. I would definitely visit this place again and try other menu items if I'm in the area. read more

Been wanting to go to this spot for a while now & I am glad we finally went. The staff is nice & we were greeted as soon as we arrived. The food was very tasty and we enjoyed our pasta dishes. For appetizers we had calamari. For our entree we had spaghetti pomodoro with meatballs & Cappelini Adriatico. We live near Casa Della Nonna, passing it daily, but honestly never had the desire to check them out, since we so love our normal go-to Italian spot, also nearby, Mamma Roma's- but when dining w.friends they wanted to pick up pizza from their go-to spot, and we found ourselves having the opportunity to check out Casa Della Nonna. Their menu offerd pretty much the same dishes at equal prices. We decided to order our favorite go-to dishes to really compare the two locations. Ordering spaghetti puttanesca w.added sausage ($3) & a meat calzone w.added green peppers & onions (they didn't charge to add these) The puttanesca was very different than I expected, but I know the dish can be made in a variety of ways based on the regional culture. I'm used to black olives, chunks of fresh tomatoes, charred garlic, loaded w.sauce and capers w.ground sausage- Casa Della Nonna used kalamata olives, no tomatoes, ample sauce, but very minimal capers, and wilted spinach w.sliced Italian sausage. I prefer my original, as I felt the kalamata olives created a twangy vinegary taste, taking away from the anchovy paste that should stand out as front runner, and I was sad about the lack of capers adding a pop. Though I was impressed by the large amount of added on sausage- that had very bold spicy flavors, moist and hearty. The meat calzone comes w. mozzarella & ricotta cheese blended w. pepperoni, ham, and sausage- we requested to add green peppers & onions, which come in our go-to's calzone- the calzone was a very big letdown- a large looking calzone- barely filled on the inside & absolutely NO seasoning. The ingredients were all arranged in a pile in the middle, creating a lot of dough only bites around the edges & sides. We actually had to cut open the entire thing & rearrange, add seasonings, and smother in sauce- the pepperoni wasn't cooked, so it had the raw charcuterie taste instead of a nice melted crispy char-and maybe I got all the sausage left in my pasta, because I found myself adding sausage from my pasta to the calzone to avoid just dough bites. The pizza our friend ordered looked like heated oven Costco pizza, no 'tip sag' not that cheesy and undercooked looking dough Overall, the food was less impressive in quality and flavor profile- we thought maybe we'll give them another chance, trying other dishes, but realized why? when we know a really great reliable place just as close. read more

After going to a pizza place/brewery restaurant who had a private event tonight meaning their kitchen was closed, we happened upon this Italian restaurant a mile away. The pizza was delicious and the crust was top notch! Ambience was that of an Italian restaurant and the decor was inviting us to Italia. I cant fathom what wouldve made a restaurant believe that this was a good idea. I ordered a 18 inch chicken, green pepper, tomato and onion pizza. I also requested that the pizza be cut in SQUARES. I recieved the pizza the bottom of the box was soggy, and I thought hey, I got a few toppings so the additional steam hadnt evaporated,. When the pizza box was in my hand I couldn't hold it from the sides I had to grab it from the bottom. After I opened it I thought the pizza was cut in SQUARES as ordered. As my guests and I went to pull pieces the cardboard currogation was exposed and irregular pieces came up. The restaurant didn't cut in SQUARES they cut in triangles and then attempted to cut in squares.. this is why the box couldn't maintain the shape and was soggy. As we pealed slice after slice, cardboard came up with the slice. I've never been so disappointed in a business. This really messed up my dinner. And the 6 guests that were with me said they wouldn't order from this establishment. I paid for a 27 dollar pizza that was butchered. read more

Our experience started poorly. It was 12:30 on Sunday. There was one other occupied table in the restaurant. We were seated directly underneath a heater vent. This caused a breeze, albeit of warm air, to blow on us during our meal. We order promptly and asked for water. The water had an unpleasant taste. I asked for a new glass, thinking my glass had soap residue in it. The new glass of water had the same bad aftertaste. The food took 30 minutes to be served. Neither dish were very tasty. I was really looking forward to my Spaghetti Carbonara. It's one of my favorite pasta dishes. I was sorely disappointed because while the dish looked great, the bacon was not at all fresh and had a very stale taste to it. The Flanksteak Salad was fresh though and very tasty. What a fantastic find near my work! I love Italian but it can be pretty pricey so I don't get it too much. I was craving Italian one day and saw that Casa Della Nonna had a cheap lunch special so I decided to check it out. They have a lunch special on certain pastas for $6.95 and they're usually available weekdays till 3. They also have other lunch specials that you can see when you walk in. I ordered tortellini Rosario which came with 1 garlic bread. The bread was ok but the tortellini was delicious. The Rosario sauce was flavorful, tortellini shells filled with cheese, delicious sausage and sweet tomatoes. And you get a good amount for lunch. I also got a pepperoni pizza which was good but the pasta was definitely better. If you enjoy Italian food, definitely give Casa Della Nonna a try. read more

This was my first time here at Casa Della Nonna. Since were still in the Covid phenomena it's hard to judge it on service. I don't know if normally you have to order from the kitchen yourself and then go sit down and wait for it to come. But that's the way it was for us. I got the eggplant parmigiana dinner and it came with a small slice of garlic bread. There was no salad with the dinner either which struck me as unusual. But with all those little caveats let me say that the food was quite good. It was excellent eggplant Parmigiana and the pasta sauce on spaghetti seemed homemade and had fresh basil strips in it. The restaurant itself is in a small strip mall it's hard to see from the road as you drive-by. But it is worth seeking out. I plan on going back and eating there again in the near future. read more

Was in the mood for a calzone or a Stromboli and had heard Casa Della Nonna was a good place to visit. Arrived just after 1:15PM and was immediately seated. Only one table was occupied and I was hoping that wasn't a sign of things to come; this was a Sunday afternoon ... Waitress arrived promptly and was all smiles. She recommended several items and was off to get my drink order. Upon her return I ordered the Meat Calzone which was made with Sausage, Pepperoni, Ricotta and Mozzarella. I expected a more then 14 minute wait as it would take about 20 minutes just to cook the Calzone ... so at 23 minutes the Calzone was served. Not bad as I've had Calzones take up to 35 minutes at other places. The Calzone was HUGE! Golden brown with a nice crust. I love a Calzone with a crusty shell. As I cut into it the cheeses oozed out and steam rolled out. Mmmmmm. The first bite was good but it was lacking something. Flavor was there but ... can't put my finger in what was missing. Ok ... this was a meat Calzone with Sausage and pepperoni ... I counted the pepperoni, I got seven slices; is there a pepperoni shortage I'm unaware of? The sausage was sliced meat that didn't look like sausage rather it looked like sliced sandwich loaf. Didn't have a sausage flavor either. Maybe that is what was missing. I was served a small, three tablespoon sized ramekin of pasta sauce. This calzone was HUGE and all you get is this small, dinky, ramekin which barely holds about three tablespoons of anything. I went through four and I was being frugal with the sauce intake. Why not just serve a large sized ramekin of sauce and be down with it? Over all the visit was a success. This was a 3 1/2 star visit! I got a good calzone, I was full, and the price was just right. I will return to try other menu items. read more

Ok normally this is my go to place for pizza. Being from the NYC area, Casa Della Nonna was the most authentic italian food in the Maryland area. Maybe tonight was an off night..or new management. I ordered a BBQ chicken pizza..which I've ordered numerous times here. Normally it's white pizza topped with chicken and BBQ sauce as expected. I picked up my pizza and it was just plain cheese with some chicken pieces on top..nothing BBQ about it. Also the cheese was so thick and cold it pulled right off the pizza! I confirmed my order and the guy at the register told me this is their normal BBQ chicken pizza. if that's the case, definitely will not be back read more

Pretty great pizza for the area. It was a sigh of relief compared to other places around the Hanover/Severn area. Both pizzas had good flavor and were not overly heavy with the cheese or sauce, and the dough was nice and thing which allowed a nice little crunch but also a slight chewy-ness on top. One of the few pizza places I've had around here that has come close to NY/NJ. read more

We really enjoyed the pizza from Casa Della Nonna. There was some confusion with our order as we wanted half the pie with their signature "Casa Della Nonna style" pizza toppings and the other half with extra cheese only and were originally given a pie with the whole thing covered in all the toppings as opposed to just half. This was quickly rectified by the most courteous staff at CDN by making a fresh new pizza how we wanted it and they even gave us the first pizza that was made incorrectly on the house for our inconvenience. I can't express thoroughly enough how warm, friendly, and attentive the staff here was despite a couple hiccups with order accuracy. Everyone's reviews are true about how fresh the pizza ingredients taste with quality meats, cheese, sauce, and veggies, but most especially their homemade pizza dough for the crust was a huge hit. I wanted more of the pizza crust which I usually avoid all together. We liked the the thin NY style crust and also enjoyed their calamari very much, as it was cooked perfectly. We ordered old bay wings over the phone and realized when we arrived home that we were given buffalo hot wings. The buffalo hot wings were actually really good and the sauce had a great kick so it wasn't that big of a letdown after all. We'll be back to try the old bay wings & cream of crab soup and for more of their great pizza. read more
