Decided to try Casa Expresso, a local Portuguese tascas spot. They've been around for decades.
We dropped in on a busy Saturday evening (7:45pm). Mostly filled with locals. Service was hectic but friendly. They don't speak much English but easy enough to order. Menu of the day had some interesting options.
- 1/2 Vinho tinto (2,50€) - half a litre of the house red wine. Generous portion.
- Caldo verde (1,80€) - piece of chorizo, potatoes and collard green. A touch bland.
- Cabrito assado (10,00€) - one of their Saturday specials. Roasted lamb wasn't gamey, slightly fatty. Potatoes were tasty.
- Rojões à moda da casa (9,00€) - their house specialty. Three big pork chunks; mostly tender, yet meaty. Rrce soaked up the meat juices. Boiled potatoes were bland.
Big portions. Order the rojão. 3.5 stars. read more
