Casa Feliz is Spanish for Happy House. Known as the Barbour Estate, architect James Gamble Rogers II designed the home for Massachusetts industrialist Robert Bruce Barbour in 1932. Rogers was given free rein to creat what he liked.. Barbour told Rogers to make it "any way you like. If I don't like it, I'll sell it." so he designed it to look like an old farmhouse. Built on the shores of lake Osceola during the Great Depression, the house was designed in an Adalusian style at a cost of $28,000. To make the house looked weathered he used old roof tiles and created a crumbling archway on purpose. The result was a house that was beloved by the residents of Winter Park for the next 70 years. In 2000 a local doctor purchased the property and planned to tear down the house because it was too small for him. With the house in danger of demolition, the Winter Park community rallied together to save it. The fate of the house was so dire that wrecking balls had actually struck the corners of the house before demolition was halted. The house was moved from the lake to it's present location 300 yards away on the Winter Park Golf Course. Copies of Rogers' original drawings and interior photographs taken in the 1930s by Harold Haliday Costain were used to restore the house to how it looked in the 1930's. Today the house is a museum and is used as a wedding venue and for private events. You can tour the house for free as I did with my daughter on my most recent trip to Winter Park. The wood work inside the house is exquisite. Interesting to me was the fact that the house has a basement which is something you never see in Florida homes. The house is a treasure and thankfully it has been restored which was not the case for 15 percent of the other 129 historically significant buildings recognized the year Casa Feliz was saved. They have since been destroyed. As James Gamble Rogers II granddaughter Joy Wallace Dickinson has stated "People like to be surrounded by the feeling of history. But they don't want to have to deal with small bathrooms." As real estate and developing pressure increase more homes will fall, ruining the character of what attracted people to the area in the first place.

    Wandering around Winter Park...

I was wandering around Winter Park after visiting the Morse Museum and stumbled upon this place. From what I gathered, this is a historic Spanish style house that is typically used as an event venue such a wedding. However, if you're not planning on renting the space out, you can come during their open house that is typically held Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am to noon and Sundays from noon - 3 pm. Unfortunately, I was not able to catch more of this historic site, but hopefully next time when I am around!

Beautiful building and a really cool history. A staple of Winter Park. Great venue for weddings and also a terrific spot for pictures. Right on the Winter Park golf course. It's simply beautiful.

Wow! What a elegant and charming farm house! The staff was very friendly and helpful. Was here for a wedding and loved the venue. It really was well suited for a wedding as the place is very cozy and romantic.

What a beautiful venue for a wedding! If you're looking for a small intimate cozy yet beautiful wedding venue this is it. So glad I got to experience this lovely little place. Once the lights are strung and the tables are added it really pops at nighttime. Everyone eats outside and the dance floor is inside. So cute, so cozy, upstairs you'll find separate grooms and brides rooms, just just a walk across a balcony.

Back courtyard (great for first look. Bar goes here too)

We got married at Casa Feliz on November 3, 2019 and it was a beautiful venue for our destination wedding! We wanted something intimate, romantic, and timeless for our 82 out of town guests---Casa delivered on this vision without doubt. Our event coordinator Lori was wonderful from beginning to the very end. As an out-of-town bride, I didn't ever worry. Communication was always quick and helpful and it felt like we had a friend throughout the process. Lori always made time to make Casa available when I was in town for a quick visit (and every time we visited, it somehow looked more beautiful than the pictures online!). The exclusive caterer, Arthur's, was the absolute BEST. A tasty expansive menu (for vegans and vegetarians too!). Casa Feliz far exceeded our expectations. Looking at photos now, we are blown away, and know that we will continue to feel like this for the rest of our lives. Casa Feliz is a magical place. We are so grateful to have its magic as a part of our story. Love, Tahira + Addison For the planners: -Many of the pictures (mine included) are outfitted with upgrade options -the tent company is an exclusive vendor (not my favorite) All photos by Leila Brewster Photography

Our granddaughter's wedding was wonderful in every way. The Casa Feliz provided the perfect venue for the perfect day. The mansion's design accommodated the about 100 guests with comfortable seating for the ceremony, a balcony where the string quartet played, a beautiful side yard area for cocktail hour (while photos were being taken), and inside the dining and dancing room was large yet intimate with rich wood and décor. Every nook and cranny of Casa Feliz was picture perfect--can't wait to see the professional photos! Definitely recommend this venue.

4 Stars for location, location, location!…read more Eola House is a historic 1924 house-turned-rental space owned by the city, right by Lake Eola. It may seem like an odd sight in the middle of the park, but in fact it used to exist in a line of historic homes that were taken down for the park expansion. Now it sits alone, right off of the walking path surrounding the Lake. The home is lovely and features a sunroom, living room, parlor, outdoor terrace, upstairs area with a balcony, bridal changing room, and more. Recently I went for a lunch meeting in their upstairs space, the Summerlin Room ($75/hr rental with a 2 hr min). It was a lovely spot and fit our group of fifteen perfectly. I'll admit that I had been to the house once before to help with another event and the room wasn't set to the specifications agreed upon so we had to move and reset the chairs and tables right before the meeting. I remember the event organizer was quite annoyed... Hopefully it was a fluke! Side note- There is no elevator and the stairs are quite narrow. This is worth mentioning in case your event includes someone with mobility issues or who uses a wheelchair. As I was heading out I stopped in a room by the front and appreciated the array of pamphlets set up- ranging from history of the house to an Orlando biking map. There were also tourist pamphlets with the typical attractions (presumably for out of town guests of weddings of meetings). Overall, this is a beautiful meeting/event space that is priced reasonably and located in the heart of the city.

I've had the pleasure of attending a yoga event as well as a salsa event at The Balcony and both times I left wanting to figure out an event to host at this beautiful site. Though getting in to the building and up to the right floor is a bit of a process, the view that awaits is worth every head scratch. This is truly a Balcony, but much larger than you'd imagine. They've used the space for cocktail parties, seated dinners, weddings, fitness events, and I imagine a photo shoot or two. The space is available for rent, and I've made a point to take a tour (which you can schedule any time) to check it out when they didn't have an active event happening. The indoor space you'd walk thru for The Balcony is actually a marketing agency. I haven't been in several months, but it doesn't seem to provide a lot of weather backup space, so one thing to note. There are beautiful mantels on either end of the main room which we used for our event. It was so beautiful and intimate. We loved the historic touches which had also been recently renovated before our event. At the end of our wedding, our guests were directed to the lawn.
