I had an early dinner here by Barcelona standards- walked in around 715 and managed to get a table without a reservation (they were fully booked out for the next few days otherwise at "normal" times). It's a small and cute restaurant... loved the decor! Their food comes in portions that are suitable for sharing, and I should've heeded their advice! The truffle risotto portion was too much for one, but it was so good- perfect for a cold day as it was creamy and hot! It got a bit too rich for one person to finish though so I'd definitely recommend sharing this between two or more. I liked the patatas bravas as well - simple but the potatoes were so soft and I liked the spicy tomato sauce it was served with! Octopus ceviche was just ok for me. Apparently you're never supposed to come here without a reservation. On our honeymoon, my wife and I were greeted at the door after standing there for a few minutes like idiots only to be told "never come here without a reservation". The waitress' eyes hit the back of her skull as she rolled them and sneered at us with disgust as we did not know ahead of time that a reservation is a must. We were then handed a card to go to another one of their affiliate restaurants and were essentially shooed out the door. You can be assured we did not go there.... This is by far the worst experience I've had at a restaurant in my life - disgusted. This can only be an indication of their general service, buyer beware. Casa Lolea is a quaint little tapas eatery with well-prepared small plates. I dropped in on a lazy Sunday for some tapas only to find out they book out a few days so make sure to call and make a reservation if you're traveling during high season. The patatas bravas is a staple in Spain and a must-try. You know when you're taking a photo and you say "cheese", well the Spanish say "patatas". Ha! If you've had patatas bravas somewhere else and wasn't impressed, give them another try here, they're well prepared. The ceviche is decent, the hummus was good but I could've done without the sausage on it. The goat cheese salad was out of this world, even if you're not a big goat cheese person, it's still worth a go. The bread is made fresh daily and phenomenal. They bring you a box of some bread slices with a whole tomato that looks like it's just been picked off the vine, along with a garlic clove and some olive oil. Take the bread, drizzle the olive oil on top, cut the garlic clove clear in half, wipe the clove all over the bread and oil, cut the tomato with the fancy knife they give you and take a bite... Also, their known for their sangria. Number one sangria is great. I think we tried both the red and white. We ordered a bottle each time we visited, it's a better bang for your buck, plus the wine isn't that strong so you can afford to have a couple glasses. read more

Dinner at Casa Lolea was easily our favorite meal in Barcelona, and if we'd had another night we would almost certainly have gone back for a second meal to try more of the menu. The decor is really quite nice; a red-and-white theme from aprons to the tiled walls, and a brighter feel than some of our other meals. Like our other dinners, it seemed to fill up early (by Spanish standards), so reservations are probably a good idea. Service was outstanding; while they didn't lurk it was always easy to get their attention when we needed it, everyone was friendly, and they were helpful in making recommendations (as an example, the bread comes with a number of items to complement it, and they were polite and happy to let us know how they are usually eaten). To top that all off, the food and drink were excellent. They make their own sangria, and both of the ones that we tried (a sweet red and a sweet white) were fantastic. If I had a higher tolerance for wine, I'd have easily downed two or three glasses. All of our food choices were at least good, if not really good, and there were no duds. The Gildas (aka Banderitas, small skewers with anchovy, olives, quail egg, and pickled peppers) were snackable, the toast with hummus and chorizo sausage (Montadito de Humus y Chis) was a nice touch of sausage without being overwhelmingly fatty, the bread platter was a delicious (and crunchy) complement to the richness of the cured acorn-fed pork loin (Lomoiberico de Bellot), and while the risotto was slightly overcooked in the risotto with black truffle (one of the nightly specials) it was still delicious. We ended the meal with what could best be described as a sweet cheese mousse (think marscapone), fruit, nut, and honey parfait (Melimato con Garrapinad). I'm not a big fan of parfait in general, but this was delicious; there was enough honey and berries to make it obviously a dessert, but not so much as to make it saccharine. Definitely a place we would revisit to keep exploring the menu, and the sangria! read more

My goal when traveling is to eat as many tasty things as possible, because calories on vacation don't count. Lolea was our first dinner when arriving in Barcelona. It was so ideal we returned for our last dinner in this amazing city. No meal truly met the expectations we had set here. To the outstanding cheese board, steak tartar, cockles, pear pesto ravioli to the final bite of carrot cake. All accompanied by light and refreshing in house sangrias. Our return night ended in ransacking of their daily menu which, once again, blew my mind. This place does pasta to perfection, and I'm saying that after a week in Italy! The service is what really brought us back again. We felt welcomed and wanted in this establishment and the servers were patient to help describe dishes in more detail. They have 4 styles that come in massive glasses full of ice- just what you need after walking around in the hot Barcelona sun! Our last night in Barcelona, we had looked up this place. We did not have a reservation, and had a backup plan in case we could not get in. When we got there they said they had tables reserved and they were 30 min late already, but they would check and see if they could give it to us. We were seated and the first waitress explained all the food and some of the recommended dishes. We ended up getting the truffle risotto (so good), the tomatoes and bread, potatas bravas, and tuna. One of the draws was that Casa Lolea specializes in sangria. They have five signature drinks in red and white. We were able to try four of them and they were incredible. The only reason I give it four stars is because our actual waitress had RBF and she barely came to the table. She asked if we wanted dessert or coffee and said she would bring a menu, but never came back, even to bring the check. We flagged down the one who had seated us, and she quickly put in our order for espressos and Catalonia creme (a must if you are in Catalonia). read more
