Some times simple but amazing ingredients is all a good dish needs to shine. Casa Lolea was one of my favorite meals I had during my visit. You can feel the passion in the perfectly flavored dishes. The sea bass ceviche with saffron was mouthwatering good. The steak tartare was smooth as silk. I just can't ever say no to tartare. This was one of the best. The atmosphere was so chill! It really did feel so inviting that we may have stumbled into someone's house. I debated sleeping over. Wonderful meal from start to finish. The rose sangria was as big as a goblet and was delicious. I ordered the snails and chicken skewers and both dishes came packed with flavor. Waitresses and chefs were all friendly and accommodating (there's an English menu). Big tip? Make reservations! We were lucky enough to be in Barcelona and even luckier that our hotel was nearby this spot. Their customer service was spot on! Friendly and very helpful and after the second visit, already recognized us and made recommendations on what to try. The first of four times there, we had the bread and tomato, patatas bravas and of course sangria. I tried the number 2, (they have 5 I believe to chose from). It was absolutely delicious! Fruity and refreshing, so smooth and just amazing! My husband was brave enough to try the snails which he said tasted just like the gravy they were in. Second to fourth visits I tried numbers 1-3 of the sangrías they have. The 1 and 2 were my favorite, third one was good, I just prefer the first two. Food wise, we had the patatas bravas, little potatoes with a creamy aioli sauce topped with a little tomato sauce, the tortilla which is an amazing omelet of potatoes and eggs, thick, rich and fluffy. Didn't eat here and the food might be decent, but we'll never find out. Wife and I came here on a busy night and only two tables were empty. After waiting for a while, one of the waitresses gestured us in towards a hallway and pointed down the hall where another dark dining room with tables were. Confused on whether we were supposed to sit there, we turned on the lights and stood there a bit. As I headed back over to the main area, the same waitress spotted me and angrily yelled that we weren't supposed to be there and that she "told us to stay". It was a bit shocking but I quickly apologized, even though she had not verbally said a thing to us until that moment. I let my wife know that we weren't supposed to be there and my wife headed to the main area and then the waitress, whose name tag read Ceci, yelled at her with the same angry "I told you to stay" treatment. I finally had enough and let her know that her behavior was inappropriate, and I decided that we would not be dining at the restaurant and proceeded to walk out. While we headed out she kept saying in a raised voice "let me explain"and "I told you to stay" to which we told her she did not say anything and her behavior was rude. This went back and forth a few times and she just repeated the same words basically and it was a pretty pointless debate so we got out of there. First the hand gestures with no verbal explanation and then raising your voice and lecturing your guests. Seems like there have been some other reviews about rude waitresses here before. We walked in for lunch and did not need a reservation. The service was wonderful. The waitresses are so nice and friendly. They even explained how to order. The sangria was delicious. The tomato bread was fun- we made it ourselves. They gave us four pieces of bread, tomatoes garlic and olive oil and explained how to make it. Dear fellow tourists, Casa Lolea is worth at least one of your precious meals. I came here on a recommendation from a friend and was so blown away that I came back again on the same trip! To me, Casa Lolea is the definition of delicious tapas. Firstly, order sangria. Their sangria is awesome (I've had it before in the states--but more expensive there) and cheap so why not? Once you've made that important decision, you have a challenging road ahead. Should you order meats? Cheeses? Traditional tapas? Specials? The menu isn't huge but boy is it hard to order when everything is so good. I would suggest ordering at least one cured meat, one cheese, tortilla de patatas (Spanish omelette), a few seafood dishes, and truffle pasta risotto. Honestly could write 10 paragraphs about each dish I ate but seriously everything was amazing, you can't really go wrong here. Casa Lolea is a place you have to try. Their tapas is unique, their service is amongst the best in Barcelona and prices aren't all that bad. The place tends to fill up very quickly, and I recommend making a reservation for all days of the week (unless you're here for lunch), otherwise there's a high chance of being turned down at the door. There's no need to reserve very long in advance, however. My experience is that same-day reservations work just as well, but may be a little tricky for Friday/Saturday nights. Everyone speaks both Spanish and English, and will gladly help out with what to choose from the menu and explain the dishes. For drinks? Have the house sangrias (served in biiig wine glasses). They're DELICIOUS. My fav was the sparkling and the red wine-based ones. And what's better? You can even buy bottles to take home! read more

This place was so good, we had dinner here two night in a row. Their sangria is some of, if not the best, I've ever had. We got a bottle of the #2. I would also highly recommend the risotto. The staff there was also very welcoming and friendly. Solid 4.5 stars! Lovely spot recommended by a friend who had studied abroad. Made a reservation for just before closing, and this is the kind of place where you absolutely need one for dinner, as it is a tiny and much beloved spot for locals. YES: Risotto/Truffle dish as mentioned by many below was decadent and delicious. We tried two of the Sangrias (asked them their most popular - I believe it was #2 and #4 - the one I liked better was the white wine version among those two that were recommended). We ordered a dessert, I don't remember what it was, but it was yummy. Good service. ADORABLE: Decor and setting. Ambiance. Classy and hip at once. Regrets: By the time we arrived (end of night reservation) the Ceviche was all out, so we did not get to try that recommended item. Also my fault - I did not ask what the Kenyan Salad contained, as I thought it would just be a green salad - and later I saw it in the counter window and realized it was some green bean based vegetable mix, which I would have loved to order (still under-veggied on this trip!). My husband and I are very happy we found this place. We got lost but it was worth it. Got here just the right time since lunch was about to begin. They serve breakfast from 9-noon. They have 5 sangria flavors and you can order it by the bottle or a cup. The menu is easy to read they have it on both Spanish and English. We ordered the Risotto with truffle. Tried coming here two nights ago and was turned away because we had no reservations so we made sure to make a reservation for tonight. The sangria was delicious and the food was amazing. Let me preface this by saying I LOVE Casa Lolea and have eaten here many a time & recommended it to all my friends. This past visit, I ordered the Cod and was mistakenly served the Foie Micuit (duck) whim. To my clear dismay, I realized this post consumption and was not able to recover as a pescatarian for many years. Even after informing the waitress (who was otherwise lovely) the €4 dish was not taken off our bill and we were also mistakenly charged for a tapas we ordered but were never served (didn't even bother to remind the staff at this point). I love this restaurant and have never had nothing but a positive experience the 7+ times I've come here, but left today quite upset read more

Nestled among the charming streets in 'Bari Gotic' (Gothic Quarter) lies Casa Lolea. Where to begin... Due to the amazing reviews we'd read Casa Lolea had been on our radar as a must-go during our week long holiday in Barcelona. I'm happy to say We were not disappointed at all. Initially we'd walked in to see if they happened to have a table for two available. Sadly they didn't (i highly recommend making a reservation in advance)- So we booked for dinner the following day (a Monday). We arrived for dinner and were promptly seated at the front of the restaurant. The restaurant is very romantically lit, both modern and vintage in the decor- overall a very adorable and welcoming place. I enjoyed that the restaurant didn't feel overly touristy and seemed to have a nice blend of locals as well as tourists which I found very refreshing. Drinks. Casa Lolea is known for their Sangria- how could I resist? (I love a classic sangria) I ordered the No. 1- Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot infused with citrus flavours and a touch of Canela (Cinnamon). My husband ordered the Lolea Brut- Sparkling white wine with an essence of elderberry and wild apples. We both agreed that both were very (VERY) delicious- however we also agreed that my No. 1 was the showstopper. It was perfectly balanced- not too sweet, amazing citrus flavour, fizzy... WOW! Sangria Heaven. The menu is a great size- a mix of classic tapas as well as unique takes on Spanish dishes (Very reasonably priced I might add). I opted for the Patatas Bravas (Of Course) as well as one of the Specials (that I'd read many a review about) the Pasta Risotto with black truffle. My husband chose the Flower Shaped Ravioli with Pear, Ricotta and Cheese Sauce. The dishes were presented beautifully. I really enjoyed the Patatas Bravas (although I did miss the crunch of the classic fried potatoes). I taste-tested the Ravioli; slightly sweet and nutty which went oh so well with the cheese sauce- YUM! Onto my Pasta Risotto with Black Truffle (I was excited to try a pasta risotto vs. a traditional rice risotto) the waitress recommended mixing the dish completely before eating- I did so with half of the dish to start. After mixing I took the first bite- the dish was rich yet delicate, savory... I was amazed. After such an amazing main it's only appropriate to finish it off with a dessert. I ordered a 'Café con leche' for myself and We chose to share the 'Pa amb Oli i xocolata' (Chocolate Cream with olive oil, toasts and salt). The dessert was presented in a very clean and modern way. The chocolate cream- decadent. The salt- much needed to counterbalance the sweetness of the dish. Overall Casa Lolea is one of my favorite places to eat in Barcelona. The ambiance is romantic and local, Service is prompt, staff were very knowledgable and prices were incredibly reasonable. Hands down the best sangria I've had over 5 weeks in Spain. They have a number of different mixes, and I got the original No 1 which was refreshing and delicious. I also got the truffle risotto, which was rich and flavorful. Definitely a very filling dish. I also got the coco bread, which you rub fresh garlic and tomato in yourself. I went here on a recommendation from a coworker. The sangria is SO GOOD here and they sell bottles! (pretty cheap compared to US standards). I tried all the sangrias here but my favorite was the No 2 which was a refreshing white sangria with hints of vanilla. To be honest they were all really good! The food here was also excellent. I would not recommend the patas bravas (their way) because it was roasted instead of fried. I also wouldn't recommend the tomato bread. We didn't get it but the couple next to us did and you had to run the garlic and tomato on the bread yourself. Everything else was excellent though: tuna belly, salmon belini, octopus ceviche and foie micuit. I loved the rissoto. It was very rich and creamy though. The froie micuit with onion marmalade and volcanic salt was so good my friend ordered another one. The ambiance is cute and the restaurant is small but that only adds to the charm. We went during the off season so we were able to make a reservation a day ahead of time but there were a few walk ins that day. Definitely a must just for the sangria alone! read more
