Clean rooms! Close to the city center! Clean nice room. A but small but its ok, was good for 3 of us . The only downside is no elevator - which is hard for elderly folks ,but itwhrise all good. It was my husband's birthday and they gave us a champagne to celebrate

Unplugged ice and soda machines by the staff every single night. Very inconvenient to say the least.

Gave this place a one star because I had to in order to create this review. The hotel location is adequate and not to far from the boardwalk. We paid $500 a night for an ocean view room that wasn't really ocean view. Even the patio wasn't ocean view while sitting at the table. You had to stand to enjoy the view. Not at all worth $500 a night. Free wifi didn't work in our room. Maybe it was just our room, but what are the odds? We had to go outside the room in order to use the internet. Not a big deal, but when you want to watch Netflix or any other platform you can't. So beware of this before booking this place. The only microwave in the facility is in the lobby. Well, if you have anything you want to heat up for yourself or the kids, you'll have to do it before 3-4pm. So forget the leftovers from dinner when your hungry after a night out on the town and full of libations. The lobby was closed at 3pm during my stay and they didn't return until 8am. Couldn't even make popcorn to enjoy a movie. The coffee is also in the lobby that's closed until 8am. So, if your an early bird and want coffee, your simply out of luck. No coffee pots in the rooms. Wife and I tried to keep making the best of it until we needed some ice for our wine to TRY and enjoy another evening together. Lowe and behold the staff unplugs the ice machine and the soda machines when they close at 3-4pm. So no Ice and no cold water when you need it. It was a total Debby Downer when we couldn't at the very least get some ice. The rooms were clean. That's the only good thing I can say about this place other than location. The staff is nowhere to be found after 3-4pm so the service was very inadequate because there wasn't any service. We were very inconvenienced and this place doesn't make you feel like your at home. When you pay $500 a night, I would expect some ice, coffee, and decent Wi-Fi service. I wouldn't and won't recommend this place to anyone in the future.

We just got back from the hotel last week. The hotel is very comfortable and clean. The staff at the counter are super friendly. I just hear footsteps when I sleep at night. Fortunately, the guests here go to bed early and get up early on the island. After all it is a 2 star hotel and not 5 star so I can understand. Hotel Suites price is fair and reasonable. Last, our best impression is that hotel redecorated very clean and comfortable room :)

I never leave reviews unless something is really bad and unfortunately this was the case here. First of all, my room was not ready at the the check in time which was 2pm. The woman at the front desk said it would be ready in 15 minutes. I return around 2:30 pm and it's still not ready. I could not wait around longer since I had a tour planned and had to be there at 2:40pm for check in. Hours later, I return and another woman had difficulty looking up my reservation. Finally, she finds my reservation and gives me the key to my room. This turns out to be a disappointment as well as the room I had booked stated it had "ocean views" when it did not. At best, it had a sliver of the ocean from a certain angle. The worst part was the shower which did not have running water! I went down to the front desk to let them know and......the office was closed. Only a piece of paper with a handwritten note to call a number. Called the number and of course no one answered. To make matters worse, the TV was not receiving any channels. The building walls were so thin, you could hear the neighbors all around along with the island golf carts. Only good thing is it was clean. Overall, you get what you pay for. Would not recommend!

What a beautiful quaint hotel. The grounds were gorgeous with tropical plants and an outdoor patio. Our room was tastefully decorated with antique looking furniture and exceptionally clean ; ) I'd highly recommend this place. PS they even give you beach towels at the front desk & it's within walking distance to everything!

This review is based on the customer service we received. I'm unable to leave a review for the suite that was booked because it was canceled without notice. Note: upon arrival, we were advised that the 3rd and 4th floor are under construction due to remodeling. We arrived on Monday 12/17/18 at 1:30 PM to check into our room. We were greeted by the worst front desk welcoming I've ever experienced. Cindy, was short and smug when she stated that our reservation was canceled. We were baffled by this. We had booked our room Nov. 6th through a 3rd party reservation. Per Cindy, she ran the credit card twice and since it didn't go through, the reservation was canceled without notice. We did not receive any kind of notice, from anyone. 3rd party or the hotel that ran the card. Wei (the owner) came into the main office to see if he could help resolve this problem. He offered to check if there was another room available but we didn't want another room. We wanted the room that was booked. Wei offered to let us see the suite and the construction along the way. If we felt it wasn't too much to of an inconvenience they would get the suite ready for us. The walk way was not clear nor safe. He showed us another room to try to get us to stay. This room has clothes hanging in the closet. This wasn't the place for us. I asked Cindy why she didn't called us when the card didn't go through the 1st time. She said "it's not up to me to call. It's up to the 3rd party." I asked Cindy what information the 3rd party had shared with them. She stated "Name. Address. Email. Phone number." I asked again "Why didn't you just call? You had the number in front of you." She stated "That isn't part of my job. That's up to the 3rd party to reach out." I asked how was that providing good customer service. Cindy stated "this is the way I was trained to do things. It's not my job to reach out to the customer, it's up to the 3rd party." I replied "I understand that you were 'trained' this way but how are you putting your customers first? Being a 'Yes Man' isn't working for you since you are losing a customer. Providing great customer service only requires you stepping up and making a call. It could've been as simple as an incorrect digit. Needless to say, this was the end of our conversation. We never got an apology or even a "we do hope you'll comeback." Clearly, we will not be giving this establishment another chance after the horrible customer service experience. I did double check to see what the 3rd party site did and it's really sad that Cindy attempted to use them as a scapegoat. The site clearly states why it's important for a phone number to be entered. SO THE PROPERTY CAN REACH YOU

Last year, Vista and Snug were under the same ownership, which is no longer the case. Snug now has closer affiliation with Hotel Aurora a bit up the hill. Snug is a cozy and charming 6-room inn. There is staff on duty during the day; welcome in-room wine and snacks are provided as well as daily continental breakfast. There is no staff on the premises at night, although someone is on-call. My stay was lovely and somewhat surreal. I visited during the February rains which caused the cancellation of all Catalina Express boats on 2 days during my Avalon visit. This forced guests here for the long Valentines/Presidents Day weekend to leave early or relocate. I ended up being the sole guest for my 2-night visit! And with minimal visitors on the island, evenings were also pretty quiet, despite being right above the main drag (Crescent). Snug does provide earplugs and eye masks if needed. I moved up my arrival date due to the weather and Snug was able to accommodate me, even offering the same room, which was the Santa Catalina room, the inn's "crown jewel" situated on the corner with two large bay windows, one facing Avalon Bay with Casino, Bay and pier views, the other with a built-in window seat facing Sumner and the hills above. All rooms have a fireplace and deep soaking jetted tub. The rooms are not particularly large but are full of charm, coziness and warmth. No robes or slippers, but there were 2 clock/music/alarm machines. Complimentary reusable water bottles are provided; there's a water/ice machine in the hall. The welcome snacks offered were olives, pretzels and high-end nuts (i.e., no peanuts). The continental breakfast was quite ample and includes a small loaf of warm banana bread, yogurt, fresh berries, granola, milk, juice and coffee or tea. You fill out an order slip as to what you want exactly and what time you want it delivered. There are 6 delivery times for the 6 rooms, which of course was not an issue for my stay. There is a common room with a sofa, fireplace and machine for coffee and tea. There is a closet for luggage storage, a public restroom and umbrellas. The front door is open 8-5, key access is needed in the off-hours. Shout-outs to the great staff I met--Jackie, Destiny and especially Johnny at the front desk and housekeeper/breakfast preparer Alicia. Overall a fabulous stay. I usually split my time on the island between Mt Ada and a property "downtown". Snug Harbor has moved to the top of my downtown list!

What a hospitality! We did not expect this type of compation and problem solving, a true representative of Hotel Metropole. Now the pros: Location is amazing, navigation around the hotel or around it is perfect, close to everything, especially the breakfast shop on presmises and of course customer service. The room was exceptionally clean, I saw the service ladies actually mopping the floors after vacancy of other rooms. cons: second floor rooms overlooking the courtyard, get loud because of the shops. So, I walked around town by myself and explored all the hotels. I walked into this hotel and was invited to view the rooms by the owner. The minute I saw the rooms, I was in love. I booked this hotel and the Avalon Suite half a year ago. The moment my husband and I got off the boat and walked over to the hotel, the staff was amazing. An attendant saw me going up the stairs with my luggage and ran down to get my heavy luggage and carry it up the stairs for me. Check in was easy breezy. Our room was ready within minutes and we got to go into it at 11am. The Avalon suite was the room all the way down the hall on the left hand side. I believe we are one of the few rooms with an extra large jetted bathtub, the main reason why we chose this particular room at this hotel. I made sure to take photos of all the rooms the minute I walked in so I could write this review complete with photographs of the way we found it. The living room had a fireplace and a tv above the fireplace, a comfortable couch and a sofa. We had two small tables in the room. The room had excellent heating and air conditioning which we controlled at the touch of a button. We of course had a separate bathroom with jetted tub, two sinks, and a nice and large counter top. In the living room, we had another sink with a small refrigerator and two complimentary bottles of water. We had a safe next to the refrigerator which we did not use. The bathroom had a separate small room with just the toilet which we loved because after using the toilet and making a stink, we could turn on the light/ventilator which worked really well at clearing out the smell and close the door. The bedroom was a bit cramped, especially at the foot of the bed in front of the fireplace, but we had a large living room that made up for it. The bed itself was very comfortable and firm, the linens were clean. However, I got really cold on the first night I was there and had to request extra blankets which they promptly brought us. Also, the extra large pillows on the bed were extremely uncomfortable, forcing us to throw it to the side in the middle of the night. I think it's just there for decorative purposes. We found two extra regular pillows in the closet which we made good use of. The room had a small closet with plentiful hangers. There were dresser drawers we made good use of. There were two lamps, one by each side of the bed on top of a dresser with drawers. I loved the space on top of the dresser for me to place my medication and phone and watch chargers. There were plentiful chargers, USB and C type. Although the chargers on my husband's side of the bed wasn't working and I had to charge all of the electronic devices on my side. One thing about the jacuzzi tub. The wall next to it is really thick and we both had a really hard time getting into and out of it. We were both afraid of falling down and had to climb up slowing, stand on top of the little wall area, and climb into the tub and vice versa each time we used it. Other than that, I have no complaints about this hotel. The rooms are only made every third day we stay and we can tell them when is most convenient for them to do that for us. Everything else we need is brought to us by texting them. The hotel had warm Otis Spunkmeyer cookies each evening, though we only ate it one evening because we were out the other evenings. A member of the staff told me to call him so he could place the cookies in our room while we were gone, but I forgot to call each time. Someone came in our room and placed Ghirardelli chocolates with a cold bottle of water for each of us each evening we missed the cookies. Someone even came in one time and made our bed for us which was really sweet. The staff were all so wonderful and warm, making us feel right at home. And when we got tired, we sat in the chairs at the front of the hotel overlooking the beach below while sipping complementary coffee, tea, and lemon infused cold water. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of staying here.

Just a note for anyone who has mobility issues. The hotel is awesome, but note that you have to walk part way up a little hill to reach the stairs to the small lobby. The sink is also separate from the toilet and shower, which has benefits, like I can get ready while my husband showers, but it made the bathroom feel very empty, also there were no counters in the bathroom area, so you couldn't set down tampons or your phone or clothes anywhere in the room except on the closed toilet lid, which isn't my favorite thing to do. May finding a small side table or something to put here would be really helpful. In general it is beautiful and very comfortable. I will definitely be back!

Our experience…read moremade it very clear that when unexpected situations happen, this hotel does not care about the people staying with them, they only care about sticking to their policies, regardless of the circumstances. My husband proposed to me on January 7, 2025, so this trip to Catalina was incredibly special and something we will remember forever. Unfortunately, during our stay, a major storm hit the island. The weather was so severe that all ferry service was canceled on both January 7 and January 8. The waves were crashing all the way up to the shops, most businesses in Avalon were closed, and there was literally nowhere for guests to go because it was so windy. When we found out our ferry had been canceled, we simply asked if we could have a late checkout since no one could even travel to the island due to the storm. The hotel refused. It made absolutely no sense, there were no incoming guests because the ferries weren't running, yet they still wouldn't show any flexibility or compassion. Instead, we were forced to sit in the hotel lobby for hours waiting for ferry service to resume later that day in hopes that it would. I completely understand that hotels have policies, but exceptional circumstances call for common sense and a little empathy. This wasn't a personal scheduling issue, it was a dangerous weather event that stranded every visitor on the island. The lack of compassion and customer service we experienced was incredibly disappointing, especially during what was supposed to be one of the happiest and most memorable trips of our lives. A hotel isn't just judged by how it operates on a normal day, it's judged by how it treats its guests when things go wrong. Unfortunately, this hotel failed that test. We left feeling like just another reservation instead of valued guests, and because of that, we will never stay here again.

Mt Ada - The sitting room! (Ooops! I forgot to clean up my knitting first!)

I'm a bit of a Mt Ada regular; this was my 6th stay and, due to the rainy/windy weather, the most…read moresurreal. I stayed just after the long Valentines/Presidents Day weekend. All boats to and from Catalina Island were cancelled on 2 days of my visit, forcing other guests to change their travel plans. I ended up being the sole guest for all 3 nights of my stay here! With some whispers of Mt Ada being haunted (but not as many as Banning House Lodge in Two Harbors), I was a bit concerned, but fortunately had no paranormal experiences. To briefly review Mt Ada's history, it was once the Catalina home of William Wrigley Jr. and family, of chewing gum and Chicago Cubs fame. He was instrumental in putting Catalina "on the map", and his descendants still own the Catalina Island Company, which runs Mt Ada, Hotel Atwater, Pavilion Hotel and Banning House Lodge, as well as other businesses. All my stays at Mt Ada have been with the Company, although it was previously run as a private B&B. Mt Ada still runs as a B&B, as opposed to a hotel. It's a pricey stay but has many many perks that justify the expense. These include transportation to and from the boat or helicopter terminals, use of a golf cart throughout your stay, daily made-to-order breakfast and lunch, pre-breakfast continental breakfast, afternoon wine/cheese/charcuterie, 24-hour butler's pantry with snacks like gelato, chips, cookies and popcorn plus alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, discounts on Island Company tours and activities. Currently there are about 4 main people interacting with guests at Mt Ada, plus "behind the scenes" kitchen and housekeeping staff. My past reviews have mentioned a stay here is more like a visit to a home, as opposed to a hotel. There will be times when you may not see any staff (especially at night). But Pierre, Liz, Tim and Yoli (Yollie?) work their hardest to accommodate guest needs--they are the chauffeurs, front desk, waiters, luggage handlers, concierges, etc. I applaud them all. One of Mt Ada's pluses is its location on the hill (Mt Ada) above Avalon Bay, even above the main Bay viewpoint that all the rental golfcarts stop at (traffic jams are common here). It's quite peaceful, although in busy times the noise from "downtown" does carry uphill. Mt Ada has 6 rooms. The room I booked was the Grand Suite, Mr. Wrigley's former bedroom. It's the largest room, with a separate living and bedroom, a bathroom with a separate shower and tub, and a large terrace above the first floor terrace. It has a fireplace, as do 3 other rooms, and a raised bed that requires stairs to access, as does one other room. The living room has an antique "radio" that is seen in photos with Mr. Wrigley. There are radio stations hand-written on it; I was appalled to see "graffiti" defacing this historic relic. The terrace is fabulous, but alas the weather prohibited much use; I feared the high winds would blow the cushions on the chaise lounges over the railing. Even the dining tables on the first floor terrace were stored; in more temperate weather it's the loveliest place to enjoy breakfast or lunch. The breakfast and lunch menus have some new items and some old faves. Once again a fabulous and peaceful stay. Thanks again to all the staff. With the Pavilion Hotel reopening soon, Mt Ada may be the next property to undergo renovations. I hope it does not lose its charm or homey character.

The Queen's Aviary (Mrs. Wrigley's room!). It has a separate sitting room with two huge comfortable chairs and ottomans and an amazing view of Avalon, walk in closet, nice sized bathroom and a large bedroom (both with amazing Avalon views too!) Pierre, Tim, Liz and staff are welcoming and provide great services to make sure your stay is comfortable. The breakfasts and lunches are top notch meals: tasty, fresh, and nice presentations. Happy hour is wonderful with cheese, meats and variety of crackers, wines, beers and champagne. We can't wait to visit again SOON!
