I'd be worried about having it in the winter of summer because of the set up but what really forces us to go another direction is there is a lot of restrictions with vendors. You are presented with a list of vendors you must use. The asterisks indicate which vendors are not up for discussion. The ones that are not with an asterisk are still required but if you stray from that list she must personally interview that vendor and each person must have a million dollar insurance policy. As a person who has no family in town and planning everything by ourselves we just didn't have the time to devote to some of those rules. We didn't really get to talk about much else as we spent so long talking about the rules and importance of the liability insurance that there wasn't time to talk about much else. The space was pretty, It was set us an open air venue that can be closed off with glass. Basically a blank canvas because it would be all glass. Off ot the side there is a big tree with a wooden dance floor that had christmas twinkly lights wrapped around the tree. Seemed it would be lovely. Especially for a couple that plans to wed and have reception there... equipped with rooms for the groomsmen (a ground floor location near the pool with tv and videogames and bridesmaids (which was upstairs.. dangerous for heels but very cute modern space) For our needs, just needing a reception space it was just not for us. Also, I mentioned that I knew a previous bride that wed there..and as she recalled her she said, "oh the plus size bride"... OMG I would die if anyone only remembered me as the PLUS SIZE BRIDE. I just wanted to be remembered as a beautiful bride.. size need not be noted.... thank you. For other brides out there.. it is a very beautiful space.. prices are reasonable based on your total number of guests! dont rule it out till you see it. Candlelight Concerts and Swing Club dances are booked regularly here. We were there for a friend's wedding in the Grand Ballroom, which had gorgeous wood floors, sixteen-foot windows and vaulted thirty-foot ceilings. A spacious and light-filled ballroom that comfortably seated us all with room leftover for a buffet station, a DJ and dance floor. The women's restrooms even had a separate area for sitting/reapplying makeup - having all that extra space is rare and feels quite luxurious.

After touring the property with the owner, we decided this was the special place we wanted to tie the knot, so we quickly signed the paperwork and sent our deposit to secure our Friday wedding date. Initially, I felt very confident in the owner, Leslie, and was extremely excited to be working with him. That all changed in the few months leading up to our wedding date. My husband and I discussed with Leslie in person, on two separate occasions and once via email, about us staying the Thursday night before our wedding and having our bridal party stay in the various beds/bedrooms on the property. When Leslie called us the week before our wedding to finalize everything, he claimed that he had no idea we were having other people come and stay and proceeded to tell me it was "a misunderstanding on your part" and that he would require not only an extra one thousand dollars, but that the cottage, that was set to house half of our party, did not have running hot water. We were left to scramble at the last minute to find a new place for our family. Fast forward to the Thursday before our wedding: we get there after the 3pm check in time to start setting up and decorating, and the pavilion is a wreck. The ceiling and walls were caked in dirt, there were leaves and dirt all over the floor and the tables were not set up, as per our contract. We did not complain, just grabbed the broom and swept and set the tables up ourselves. The next day, we were left scrambling for trash bags (per our contract, the venue supplied trash bags), there were strings of lights that were out, and there was a dead bird in the pavilion. As the evening went on, the owner Leslie, showed up towards the last few hours of our reception and proceeded to bombard our day of coordinator with questions about trash clean up and haul off, after we had already informed him that we hired people to take care of everything. We did not notice until a few days later, that Leslie had sent my husband an email on the night of our wedding stating that we should "go ahead and send him $250 for clean up." It did not end there. A week later, my husband reached out to Jack, the property manager, to ask about a few missing items we thought might have been left on the property. Jack then informed us that one of our guests had popped a balloon with confetti in it, in the grass, in which he stated we should "bring a vacuum" to clean it up. Once my husband confronted him with the various issues we had that previous week at our wedding, Jack quickly turned the blame to the owner saying that "Leslie is in over his head at times." The amount of unprofessionalism shown by these two men was, and still is, extremely disappointing. The owner was clearly unorganized and would frequently confuse me with the Saturday bride. My husband and I were questioned on whether we made our deposit and final payment the week before our wedding and requested receipts. I found out a few weeks after my wedding, that the owner was trying to blame me, as the bride, for the lack of basic housekeeping for his business (bedsheets changed, beds made, toilets scrubbed, floors swept and mopped). It has taken me a few months to write this review because every time I thought about my wedding, it would bring negative reminders of the unnecessary stress and issues that were added by the venue. I am now able to focus on the only positive, which is marrying my husband. The Winfield Inn is an extremely unique and gorgeous property, but the owner and property manager, in my opinion, are not worth the money, or stress. Until the owner hires someone to take over management, I will not be recommending this venue to anyone in the near future.

However, dealing with the logistics of renting the location easily brought it down to three stars. The venue itself is nice enough, reasonable amount of space for 10 large (8ft) tables for a wedding. About 70 chairs, but not all chairs were used. Small patio outside house is a decent dancefloor (adamant about no DJs though). However, I have reservations about the accessibility of the venue. It was extremely difficult for my elderly relatives to move about the space, and they were unable to enter the house due to the steps. While this is a specific issue, I want to mention it for anyone else that has a wedding that may include grandparents. Logistically, dealing with the owner was pretty close to being a nightmare. While I appreciate side-hustles, the venue is overpriced. The contracting process was frustrating and she was non-responsive several times (she needs to get the contract looked at by a professional, there are still issues in it). While it is not made clear upfront, renting the upstairs costs additional money which is ridiculous considering it was $200/hour. They did not clean up after their dogs in the back yard and we were required to deal with our trash, except there was hardly any room in the trash and recycling cans. Finally, our rental period was supposed to start at 10AM, just around the time the owner put her baby to sleep. Call me heartless, but plan ahead if you renting out your house for close to $2,000 for a single day. The alarm directions were wrong as well, but we figured it out. I hope to never deal with her again, but I still wish her the best of luck. Hopefully she'll gain some experience and get better at this process. Oh yeah, weird topless picture in the guest bathroom downstairs. I would take it down if you have younger kids visiting.
