Think real-deal molé, juicy al pastor, and rice that didn't come from a box with a cartoon sombrero on it. Drinks? También fuego. Just a group of three girls searching for margaritas and authentic Mexican food! Our server was scarce through out the dining experience. However the dining room and to go orders appeared non stop and she served us everything with a smile. The queso dip was more bland than I expected, no Chiles or tomatoes. but had a creamy stick to the chip consistency. You can notice the chips are made to order and served piping hot. My double beef enchiladas fell apart easily and the beef did did not offer any particular flavor. The yellow rice was very fluffy and not gummy like some places. They offer a pretty good deal on margarita pitchers too. The large raspberry on the rocks runs 30$. My friends liked their entrees, chimichanga with rice and salad and also a flautas combination. The casadillas have always been decent but lately it's like the chicken is wet. Like by the time I get it home and dig in it's a soggy mess. If you squeeze the casadilla it pours water. Like what is it canned chicken or is it cooked in a pot with 0 seasoning. The steak casadillas aren't all soggy and weird so I don't get it there. Basically every dish here is the same 3 meats wrapped in some form of tortilla then blasted with toppings depending on what you order. It all tastes the same and it's not that good. Like even a burrito is just a soggy mess covered in lettuce and toppings. It makes no sense to me. I'm not a huge fan but my lady loves it for the rice, which again to me is dry and not that great. Stick to the simple stuff and you'll be fine. Other than that I wouldn't go out of my way to go here or even try it. read more

I distinguish a great ethnic restaurant from others by the culture. When the staff is working and not talking to us they speak spanish. The food is as authentic as their native tongue. I haven't been to the Altamont Ave location but this one on Carmen Road is comfortable. read more

The worst Mexican food I've had in my life. We ordered the combo dinner with an enchilada and a burrito. It was a tortilla with boiled hamburger meat and canned enchilada sauce on top. We took one bite and couldn't finish it. A positive note is the rice was cooked well, and that's the only thing we ate on the plate. The meat was atrocious, you could tell it hadn't touched a hot pan by the way it crumpled it and lacked all flavor. Not to mention the stale chips and Pace salsa they served. My husband and I are used to Arizona Mexican food, so weren't expecting 10/10, but we couldn't take more than 2 bites of it. It was literally boiled meat in a tortilla-no toppings (besides the very tomato-y enchilada sauce) and no fillings. Would NOT recommend. read more

This place wasn't that bad as far as it goes but it had a lot of cons about it as well. The food was really lacking in flavor and by flavor I don't mean spice it was very spicy, but spicy to me is not flavor. It is just hot. I like flavor in my food and when I'm looking at a meal I want to be able to taste it and be able to enjoy the flavors that it brings to my palate. When I was eating this, it really felt like I was eating just a big pile of mush that had a bunch of hot spices in it. Overall it mean it wasn't horrible but I will say that the weight staff need to be more attentive to the needs of their customers because we were in need of beverages and had to wait until we could call somebody over to the table in order to get somebody to refill our drinks, which with my food I wanted to make sure I had liquid available. The decor on the table was really neat. I really enjoyed that and the building itself looks really quaint and nice. It was a bit loud in there, but overall felt really nice. Tried this place for the first time and was not disappointed. They start out with a basket or tortillas chips and salsa. Perfectly spicy. We Started with a chicken quesadilla which was delicious. My only complaint is that it was very greasy on the outside. I got the fajitas Jalisco and it came out sizzling and looked and tasted amazing. It was a perfect size portion for my hearty appetite. It only came with 3 tortillas which was not enough to accommodate all the fajita components but I took leftovers home and used my own tortillas. Just as good the next day. My boyfriend got the Steak Charro and he said it was delicious. We got an apple burrito and a cheesecake Burrito to go. They weren't bad but definitely would have been better when they were fresh as they got chewy as they cooled . I suggest saving room to eat it in the restaurant. Comes with ice cream and whip cream and a cherry. Peach daiquiri was also very good. Didn't really taste the alcohol but by the end of dinner I could feel it kick in. I was really expecting a lot more from this place otherwise I wouldn't have gone there. The main issues were: -The beef is extremely low quality (almost like the canned stuff). -The queso is clearly melted American cheese (it started to solidify after a few minutes). The dip was $7 and they were reluctant to give them us chips to go with it. -We waited almost as long to get our check as we waited to get our meals. People were basically standing on top of our table waiting to be seated and we couldn't leave because our waitress was MIA. The wait staff just isn't attentive. They add up your check on one of the old calculator things instead of a POS system (which has been the norm for the last decade). I'd recommend that this place is probably safest for drinks and apps at best. read more

While we waited we were served nachos and sauce; the nachos are very authentic to the kind I've had in Mexico, the sauce was mild/hot. Mientras esperamos la comida, nos regalaron nachos con salsa, bastante autenticos a los de mexico, y la salsa con bastante picazon. The tacos al pastor were excellent! The meat prepared slightly different from the schwarma type pork in Mexico, but soo good! I could have downed another order easily. Will definitely be back for more! I had lived in Texas for over 20 years and this spot does it right. I had the Mexicanos Tacos and they were crispy and fresh and packed with white breast meat. They offered black beans as well as refritos. Each plate in my party was cleaned off at the end of the meal. I am Margarita picky and I had a rocks no salt and it was a 8 of 10. Plenty of Tequilla and not overly limey or sweet. Tuesday and Thursday they are half price so mucho fiesta. A nice menu of typical appetizers ( guacamole, bean dip, nachos to name​ a few of many ,) various salads, chicken, beef, and seafood luncheon and dinner specials of burritos, enchiladas , chalupas, tacos, chimangas etc. We enjoy the guacamole, chicken and rice soup, burritos and enchiladas with Mexican rice. My favorite is the chicken taco salad, tender shredded chicken with lettuce, chopped tomatoes , shredded cheese and sour cream. Although I'm usually skeptical of Mexican restaurants in the Capital Region since I had good Mexican while living in San Diego, this place was surprisingly good. This is a good Mexican restaurant for anyone that likes good portions at a great price. The ambiance has one of a very family-friendly restaurant. It has your usual Mexican restaurant expectations, chips and salsa at the start, followed by all your good chimichangas that will put you to sleep within the hour from all the richness and carbs. The star of the night was the Mojarra Frita (fried red snapper). It hit all the points of what makes a fried fish great: crispy but not oily, meaty, and prepared with nice dashes of salt. Squeeze some lime over it, and just think of salt & lime chips, but just in a fish dish! Disclaimer: you must like eating the whole fish to really appreciate this dish. I recently ordered a takeout dinner for the family and it was almost inedible. I chose the "special dinner" because I could try lots of menu items: a taco, a tamale, an enchilada, and a chile relleno. None of them were a keeper. All were drenched in the restaurant's red sauce, which was not great (I found myself scraping it off). The ground beef in the enchilada was strangely seasoned - extremely salty. The tamale was very tough. And the chile relleno was incredibly greasy. It just tasted like fryer oil, and it was stuffed with a cheese filling that was almost like a canned nacho sauce. Chips and salsa were average, but nothing special. I was really disappointed because this is the closest mexican restaurant to me, so I would love a solid option. I ordered some chicken tacos to go from here one day after work. The staff was really friendly, the price was decent, but I wasn't ultimately impressed with my meal. My tacos had no flavor whatsoever, even when I added the salsa they gave me. I do have to give them credit for the size of these tacos, though. You really do get a lot for the cost!
