Passing through Troy on our way back home from Vermont, we're a little hungry. My wife says let's see what is in this strip. We spy Pancho's. Like I always say, it's better to be lucky than good. What a cute little place. Super clean. The staff was attentive, friendly, and understood enough English to get our orders right, but was Mexican enough to get the food perfect. The marinated pork was remarkable, and served with a complex spicy pepper paste, too thick to call a sauce. Luscious! I love that the owners put the word "authentic" in the restaurant title because that's exactly what you get. No Tex-mex gimmicky stuff like you get at those chain restaurants. I knew we were in for a treat as soon as we entered. The decor was beautiful and intricate. I was no longer in Troy NY, I had been transported to a little village restaurant in Mexico. We were given chips & salsa to munch on while looking at the menu. I had the steak and my fiancé had the fajitas. Both of our entrees were served on hot, steaming skillets with sides of guac, rice, and beans. It was all incredibly tasty. For dessert we ordered the chocolate mousse cake to go (not shown). The cake is super rich and chocolately, so a glass of cold milk nearby is definitely recommended. We were seated right away drink order taken and chips and salsa n drinks served t same time . they gave us time to go over the menu which has lots of good choices of mexican food . the server took our order and it was no more than 20 minutes and we had steaming hot food . the food was excellent we will deffently be going back again soon . read more

This is horrible, steam table, ready in 2 minutes Mexican food. I had the special which included an inedible mushy chile relleno, a tamale that was luke warm with no flavor and awful texture, a taco where the meat was dripping with water so much the hard corn tortilla fell apart in the middle, the corn tortilla on the beef enchilada was hard and luke warm. This is awful food at best and I would recommend Taco Bell over this place. It looks like a sister restaurant (Pancho's in Colonie) and is garbage food. read more

Been wanting to eat here for a while and finally did. Panchos is a festive, warm, cheery restaurant that is decorated in such a way that is fun and immersive, like I'm eating at a Mexican festival. The staff was welcoming and friendly. We ordered a couple of Modelo draft beers that were nice and cold, really hot the spot. Complimentary tasty salty and crunchy tortilla chips and salsa were brought to our table right away. We ordered a steak quesadilla to start which was brought amazingly fast! And so delicious!! The steak was seasoned really well, so succulent and savory. I was digging it so much I ordered a burrito with steak for the entree. My girlfriend also loved the quesadilla. She ordered a shrimp burrito next. We also ordered a side of guacamole. I'm a guac fiend! Really good guac, didn't need any salt addition and had a nice cilantro flavor, which I love. My steak burrito was tasty but whereas the steak in the quesadilla was the star and allowed me to savor the seasoned beef, the steak flavor in the burrito was muddled and nearly lost due to the overpowering tomato based sauce that covered the burrito. If I'm going to have a steak burrito I'd rather have a hand held burrito that's stuffed with steak, rice and beans and not covered with sauce. It was still tasty, just barely any steak flavor. My girlfriend liked her burrito but said the shrimp was so small it was hard to taste any shrimp flavor. We will definitely be back and try different offerings next time. We brought the second half of our burritos home to have for breakfast. I think I would like to try an actual Mexican steak dinner there. read more

Great food! Try those fajitas or the seafood dish with shrimp. Pancho's is one of the best places to eat I have discovered last year. My boyfriend and I eat there regularly, and it never let us down. However the food here is not quite "authentic Mexican", it's more like Mexican inspired and Tex-Mex. It's still good food though - tasty, served quick and large portion. read more

I ordered the chimichanga meal and my wife ordered a quesadilla meal. Everything was pretty good except for the chimichangas. Refried beans, rice, and quesadilla were fine. The chimichangas were downright bad. Chicken was dry and not seasoned well. The tortillas wasn't deep fried, it looked like they put the top side down in some oil on a sauté pan or skillet. I'd probably go back again. Pretty average food. I just wouldn't get the chimichanga, I mean, the frozen section chimichangas at Walmart would probably taste better. read more

STALE CHIPS AND INCOMPLETE ORDER We had been frequent in-restaurant patrons of Pancho's prior to COVID. We have ordered from them using their MEALIO delivery service since then. Our MEALIO delivery driver was quick and friendly...she even texted us to tell us that the restaurant was backed up and our meals were running late. Once the food was delivered we were disappointed. The chips were so stale they had the texture of hard rubber...gross. One of our dinners was completely missing, as were some side items. When we called to ask about them we were given the option to be refunded or come pick it up...pick it up?!?!? Why do you think we ordered delivery in the first place. With the whole world doing so much delivery food, how is it that we all are consistently disappointed with restaurants ability to get orders right, deliver promptly, and provide the kind of customer service you'd expect if you were there in person. Well, we won't be ordering again...and we won't be coming in either. My advice -- find a better alternative. They've gotta be out there. I know I'll be looking for one. read more

Pancho's makes very good, simple Mexican food without any gimmicks. Nobody's making tableside guacamole and there's no Mexican mariachi band roaming about, or a sombrero wearing girl selling shots of Jose Cuervo. At least I haven't seen those things yet. It's simply a lively restaurant that serves great Mexican food along with really good margaritas and cervezas. Everything is super fresh and relatively light. I've always had a language (communication) problem with the wait staff, but I don't mind. I guess that shows how authentic they really are. I cant wait to try their outdoor seating this coming Spring. read more

Let me start by saying I have been coming to Pancho's for years, probably since they opened. As others have said, it's not the best Mexican in the area but it's consistently good and quick so I have always been a fan. That changed today. I went for lunch. I ordered the lunch chimichanga. I asked if it came with lettuce, tomato, sour cream and guacamole (like the dinner does.) She said it didn't and suggested I get the dinner. I told her I only wanted one (because to be totally honest if you put two in front of me I'll eat them both! Trying very hard to watch what I eat. So I asked if she could just give me a small side since I'm only having one. I knew I was going to be unhappy as soon as they brought out two plates with full sides of each item. As always, the food was good. The bill was ridiculous though. The lunch with the sides ended up costing more than if I had ordered the dinner. I guess the price is the price (I'm sure it was on the menu) but I felt it was completely unreasonable and while I expected to pay extra for the sides I didn't expect it to double my check and I think the waitress should have came back and told me this and I'd have ate it without anything. Anyway, she kept saying "you should have just got the dinner". Jesus lady, I only want ONE. Anyway, I let her know that I felt it was unreasonable and that I think at times like this exceptions could be made and if truly not, she should have told me. Ok, end rant. I wont be back. read more

Fast service and friendly lady up front. Sadly the beef is completely flavorless ground beef. Not even salt let alone seasonings. "Taco" is a prepackaged hard shell "tortilla", flavorless ground beef, limp lettuce and packaged shredded cheese product. Quality/taste/authenticity is more comperable to a Taco Bell than a real Mexican place. But if you like that sort of thing, hey, go for it. Not this authentic Mexican girl. read more

This is the place for Authentic Mexican food in the Capital Region. They are quick, cheap, and amazingly good Authentic Mexican food! We are regulars. Almost weekly! Hesitant to give two stars. Just went there for lunch with my mother and nephew. Our waitress seemed nice at first, brought out our food and everything. However upon looking at the bill she mischarged me for the larger of the soups (I had ordered the small) and I brought that to her attention, & also inquired about said soup. I always order this Tortilla soup when I am a guest at panchos- this particular bowl was doused with so much crushed red pepper it was intolerable. I'm not sure if it was the fact she was Hispanic and there was a minor language barrier, but she was very rude mumbled something and hastily walked off. We went to panchos a few years ago. It was our 1st and last time going there. I ordered something with shrimp in it. They lazily left the tails and shells on the shrimps and as they cooked, the individual tail pieces came off in to my food. It wasn't bad enough that I had to pick each shrimp out of my dish and remove the shell myself.. eating the tiny shrimp tail pieces mixed throughout the dish was like eating little tiny crunchy disgusting chips. It took a while to figure out what the crunchy bits were but when I did...Yuck! read more

I really like this place. So far it's one of my favorite Mexican places in the area. I've tried la fiesta, el mariachi and el loco but this one has the most bang for your buck. I'm from Texas so I don't have high expectations. I'm just happy if places up here have free chips and salsa (a Texas norm) and a decent menu. Service here is friendly and though they got my order wrong once they were quick to apologize and correct. The piña colada drink is pretty legit and my friend said she had a really tasty strawberry margarita. Thanks Panchos for staying consistent. For the most part I would be just as happy grabbing fast food Mexican but there isn't anything else by me that isn't completely out of the way. Panchos is pretty decent for this area. It is not authentic at all so expect Tex-Mex American style Mexican food. The plusses- they have several flavors of Jarritos, which is nice, and they stock some good tequilas. Corralejo reposado is the best one there so try a margarita, they are tasty! Their enchiladas suizas are also good and I like the cheese dip. On the other hand, the chips aren't great, the beans usually need extra salt, and the fried ice cream is a catastrophe (it is a ball of ice cream with something like cold corn chips just pressed on it, it isnt fried/warm on the outside, it is stored in the freezer and served cold throughout). That said, it is a place I go often because up here the Mexican food is lacking in general and Panchos does a lot of things right. read more

The food is really good, they offer a bottomless pit of chips and salsa for you to munch on while you wait for your food. The Margaritas are nice too, plus a mariachi band will come around and sing to you while you digest your dinner! I have yet to try the deserts but they always look good in the showcase. Mediocre Mexican food. We ordered the Pancho's Dip and it was not particularly hot when it came out and it was swimming in liquid--not quite sure why. We also got the Tex Mex Quesadillas and a Beef Chile Relleno. My husband and I are from the midwest and are accustomed to very good Mexican food. We were very surprised to see a "beef" chile relleno. The chile was soggy and so was the fried covering. The beef was mostly tasteless. The chicken quesadillas we got were pretty good, but my husband's was almost completely full of cheese... not very much chicken. The shredded chicken in mine was pretty good. The waiter who served us was excellent and very friendly. He definitely kept my water full throughout the meal (which is how I grade good waiters). If you are used to good Mexican food, trust me... it's not worth the money it costs to go here. It's way too expensive for what they offer. read more
