Casa Rio is a traditional Tex Mex place. True to its vibe and cuisine. It was located in Downtown Anoka close to other bars and restaurants. There was a very social vibe in that area on the Saturday evening we were there. Many patios and even a rooftop patio in the area full of people. There is free street parking and a free ramp next to the restaurant. As you walk in, it is seat yourself. Staff is attentive and were aware as people sat themselves ready for service. Complimentary chips and salsa are served 1st thing. Chips were light, warm and crispy. Salsa was slightly chunky and not spicy. A habanero salsa is available upon request for those wanting something more hot! They have Happy Hour everyday from 2pm-5pm excluding Holidays. There is plenty of seating available at the bar as well for food or drinks. Tried the Traditional nachos and Tex Mex enchilada platter. The nachos were standard, filled with melted cheese, olives, sour cream and tomatoes. The enchilada platter had beans ,rice and a sweet corn cake on the side. Though it was very good, and came out hot and melty, I did not like that the onions on the cheese and onion enchiladas were raw on top and not cooked inside the enchilada itself. It was very busy, the food took time to come out. But the staff was excellent, getting everything out as fast as possible, and aware to taking care of the dining area needs. Went to casa rio for dinner last night, if I'm going into Anoka I am usually going to serums. But we figured we'd try something different. The staff is friendly and the waiter did tell us that he is usually working in the kitchen. He did fine. But the food.. I know this is a Tex mex place but this was probably some of the worst Mexican food I've had in Mn.. I had the chicken burrito and it was just okay. One thing I didn't really enjoy was the chips. They were warm, fresh and perfectly salted. Their house salsa was also pretty good. If I go back it'll be strictly for a margarita and some chips and salsa. read more

The point of ordering tacos is that when they arrive they are already put together, otherwise why wouldn't you just order fajitas? But no, I get deconstructed tacos which the menu doesn't state. The fish was tough and chewy like baked tofu, the beans were literally the worst thing I put in my mouth (akin to tar or burnt rubber), the chips were over salted, and the salsa was like jarred marinara. I have been to Casa Rio many times now and always enjoy my experience. The decor is pretty typical Mexican restaurant. Lots of bright, bold colors and Hispanic art throughout. There is a L-shaped bar in the front with high top seating and then a buffet setup beyond that along with the kitchen and then more seating in the very back. The service is always friendly and quick. I've never had an issue having to wait for a drink refill or grabbing a waiters attention for anything. The food is pretty solid. I've read some mixed reviews and personally have only experienced good food. There have been some instances where something might be slightly overcooked or maybe a piece of steak was a little grizzly but outside of that the flavors are always really good and everything tastes fresh. I absolutely love the Angry Chimi and have had it many, many times. Lately I've been stepping out of my regular zone and trying various other menu items. All of which I would order again. I strongly suggest the queso dip. On Mondays they offer all day happy hour. You can get a house marg for $7.00. Not the best marg ever but it's good and it's cheap. I can't rave enough about how good the food is! With as good as the food is, they could be total jerks and I'd still give them 5 stars. They're SO nice and SO helpful! I would only recommend coming here for drinks and the chips and queso since the margaritas were pretty good, and the staff were so friendly, but the food itself was meh at best and came out almost 45 minutes after we ordered. The saving grace is that we had endless chips and salsa refills to keep us distracted. I got the shrimp fundido, and it was pretty salty (i would recommend more cheese/veggies, less chorizo or even a side of tortillas to balance it out.) My friends got mahi tacos, and they came disassembled with what looked like fish sticks. Apparently they had also ran out of mahi mahi, so my friends had to share. Another person in our group got the burrito and they said it was okay at best. I grew up in the Southwest, so Mexican food, especially Tex Mex, is something I am used to and I typically don't have too high of expectations for Minnesota, especially in the suburbs, but sometimes I can be surprised. Meat: there are multiple meats in this burrito. I couldn't distinguish one meat from the other, but it didn't hurt my feelings. The combination of multiple meats works for me. 4/5 Sauce: some sauces on burritos are watery and flavorless, but this actually had some great texture and flavor. The margarita were delicious are reasonably priced! There was also complimentary chips and salsa once we were seated. However, the food took almost forty minutes once we ordered. At no point were we notified there was a backup in the kitchen or what the wait time was or ever told our food would be ready soon. The service okay... we did have to flag down our server or ask another server for refills a few times. Maybe they were understaffed, but we watched as other tables were checked on more frequently by other servers. I ordered chicken fajitas. They were alright! I would order them again. Even putting the fish sticks in with pico, lettuce, and sour cream, there just wasn't any flavor. It wasn't cohesive. The fish even tasted fishy and they were definitely frozen fish sticks lol. Tortillas weren't warm either. It was just not good in general, my friend and I were dying laughing at how sad this plate looked. Thankfully the quesadilla was the only saving grace, I guess we weren't that hungry afterall lol. I'm rather sad writing this cause I don't like leaving a bad review. This was the worse tex mex experience I've had. This restaurant did have great queso and salsa. Also the house margarita was very solid. I ordered the casa nachos. No flavor or color. I would have preferred 'bar nachos'. My husband got the shrimp special. It was bland and boring. We both agreed it was the 'unflavorful' tex mex food we've ever had. It was nothing special and nothing memorable. We walked out the door and both agreed we have no plans to return. I feel like I'm in downtown Anoka more than anyone else could be if they tried but for some reason I had never been to Casa Rios until the other day! It's a little hidden in between 201 Tavern and Serums and I always just overlooked it. Eventually my usual craving for shrimp tacos struck and I decided to pop in. Best decision I've ever made. 1.) The bartender was a sweetheart. She was friendly, prompt, and smiley. I actually saw her later on in the night at another bar and she remembered me and we had a conversation. Very fun! 2.) The shrimp tacos were so freaking good. Im finding that most taco places separate things so you can build your own taco but I like how this place does it best. They pre mix the shrimp and pico, wrap the tortillas in a paper material so they stay warm, and give you sour cream, lettuce, and some other super good sauce on the side. I'm pretty picky so I didn't eat the sides but I'm coming back for the tacos. No doubt. 3.) I loved the atmosphere. It's colorful and laidback. The people there were happy and nice. It felt authentic but not over the top. It was the perfect way to start off my night. I can't wait to come back! read more

Our group of six came here on a Saturday night, and we were able to get a table right away. The staff was nice, and the drinks were good (and they were a good price). Unfortunately, the experience went downhill from there. I ordered the Mahi tacos, and my friend did as well. It took about 45 minutes for the staff to tell us that they'd run out of Mahi tacos and only had enough for one portion. We agreed to split it and added a quesadilla to our order. Unfortunately, that single portion of Mahi tacos was not worth the wait. These "assemble it yourself" tacos would have been a lot more enjoyable if they included any flavor at all. The only flavor present was the overly fishy fish sticks of unidentifiable origin. The quesadilla was decent, as far as quesadillas go. We finished the whole thing with no complaints. My other friends seemed to enjoy their food, but we all agreed we'll skip this place next time we're in Anoka. read more

Great food on wheels - highly recommended! This is the mobile truck version of the Casa Rio Tex Mex restaurant in downtown Anoka. I caught them at Food Truck Fridays in the Stone Mountain Plaza parking lot, Brooklyn Park. The food really rocks! I particularly loved my giant ground beef burrito, loaded with the Casa Rio signature queso blanco cheese sauce. Yum! It's the same great food as served in the brick n' mortar restaurant...except with a slightly abbreviated menu. Customer service was great too. Always have had decent service but they do get busy. Monday's- They have their lunch burrito entree (chicken or beef) served with rice and beans available all day for $5. Plus it's happy hour all day- rail drinks are only $2! Wednesday's- $20 "date night for two" includes 2 burritos, chimichangas, or "pick two" dinner entrees (this is already more than $20) plus two House Margaritas (or beers and such, but the margaritas are the best value saved!!) and their infamous queso blanco dip for chips. My friend recommended this place so we decided to try it out. I had already eaten dinner so this review only covers the queso and margaritas. That being said both were amazing!! The queso is placed over a candle in a wire holder to keep it warm for eating. It had great flavor and was just the right amount of spicy. They also offer complimentary chips and salsa. We went on a Friday night and they had margarita deals on a few flavors. I ordered the mango one and it tasted like I was on a beach somewhere not in Minnesota with cold spring weather. Spicy Queso? Yes please! It was my friends birthday. Her favorite food is Mexican and this is her favorite Mexican Food Restaurant. So lets go! Casa Rios is located in the Halloween Capital of the World, Anoka. I guess it was the first city to have a Halloween Parade back in the 20's. Funny but now I'm done with my history lesson for the day. The restaurant was clean and ready for dining patrons with menus on the table. Our waitress was so sweet and attentive. She was quick with refills and checking on us frequently. We started with the spicy queso, my friends' favorite. I would have to agree it was really good. They keep a candle lit beneath so it stays warm. With their awesome chips I would say this appetizer is a win. I decided to go with the Chicken Fundido. This was grilled chicken breast over a bed of rice and chorizo sautéed vegetables. Of course then you cover it with queso! I requested the spicy queso instead of mild. No problem! The entree was delicious. The flavors were bursting. Mexican food is always filling so I had plenty of leftovers for dinner the next day. This is one of my fav spots to hit in Anoka! BEST chips and salsa hands down. Staff is always nice, friendly, and attentive. My only complaint/ recommendation is the salsa bowls are way too small.
