To say that we were disappointed would be an understatement. Our experience began with a diner-like barebones arrangement of tables blanketed by a loud screechy combination of loud speakers turned up high, the clatter of dishes and shouted orders and the conversation from customers trying to be heard above the noise. The mediocre food we were served seemed sadly in keeping. We ordered Carnitas Santa Ana--chunks of anemically seasoned pork served with rice, beans, and a side salad. The meat might have been frozen, lumps of generic meat without flavor or character, and the beans could have come out of a can. Our Camarones Mojo de Ajo, shrimp with garlic sauce, turned out to be tough shrimp that had probably passed their sell-by date. The garlic flavor barely tickled the palate and cried out for some herby assistance and, perhaps a dollop of tangy salsa. The same dull rice and beans accompanied this dish. A minor note: we ordered corn tortillas with the dishes but received the flour versions. Before we left a jarring trio of loudmouthed motorcycle freaks sashayed out to tune up their machines a few feet from the door. We won't be going back. read more
