Maravillosa y auténtica cocina mexicana! Probably one of the most authentic Mexican restaurants I've been to in the South. They start you off with two kinds of salsa -- one is their spin on salsa verde, which is almost like a purée of guacamole blended with jalapeños. It comes across like a light cream sauce... much lighter than guacamole, but with more texture and depth than a traditional salsa verde. To be honest, all I had were their basic à la carte tacos, but they were exceptional! Friendly service, and the place was absolutely packed on a Wednesday at 2:30 PM, which tells you everything you need to know. This place does not disappoint at all. My mom, my daughter and I were on vacation here in Hot Springs. We were craving Mexican food for dinner and there were so many places to choose from. We settled on this one not knowing much about it. It was a very cute place. We loved the bright colorful decor. The tables and chairs were so pretty. The food was great! Everything on the menu looked so good it was hard to decide. My daughter's kids meal came in a little cardboard car. She was very happy about that. I would definitely recommend and would come back if ever in the area. read more

This is the most authentic restaurant or food I've had since moving to Arkansas after being in California my whole life. I've tried so many places with so much disappointment and regret. But this place is bomb! Coming from a Hispanic family I highly appreciate authentic food and service. I've paid way more for way less satisfaction! This is definitely my new go to spot. Also Manuel is the best sever I think I've ever had! From the taste of the food to the ambiance and drinks and not to forget the attentiveness of our sever. I highly recommend. We almost passed this gem up because ratings were lower. We are not sure why. Arrived at lunch. Service was exceptional and food was fast. Ordered the trios lunch fajitas and the meat was thickly sliced and well seasoned. Guac wasn't that mushy junk the usually have and the beans were AHHMMAAAZZINNG. Place was clean and festive. We were greeted at the front door - taken to a great table upon walking in even on a Friday night. Nice. Our waiter was kind and helpful navigating the expansive American- Mex selections and took our drink orders quickly and checked on us often! At first look this seemed like another Disney theme Mex place with tacky art and painted wood carvings everywhere. Don't get me wrong... this is not true Mexican food but it was damn good!! They had a variety of delicious home made salsas, and the beans "frijoles rancheros" were not some prefab refried sort - they were cumin and pork laced beans! I wanted to get a variety of street tacos but they were unyielding - had to be 3- of the same tacos so I went with the house smoked brisket instead of the chorizo and Al Pastor - which I was told they made traditionally on a revolving spit. Have to say my tacos were beyond amazing. Wife got steak fajitas that was real steak, not the gristly stuff one often sees. Next time I will try the Al Pastor! read more

It's clean and the good is delicious. We got a taco salad because he remembered it from when we were here a few months ago. It did not disappoint. I had a shrimp taco salad. Shrimp was cooked wonderfully- a nice texture and never rubbery. We shared some guacamole and it was super fresh and bursting with flavor! Our server was awesome- checking on us but not hovering. I went on a week night with a big group (think there were ten of us), hoping it would be a good night to have a meal with such a large number. It was soooo busy! It was a few days after the ice store, so folks not being able to get out in this area, for a few days, we're thinking the same? We waited a few minutes for the table, but once we were seated, they were super efficient in getting our orders. The food came out, pronto! The staff is very nice. Since my first visit, I've ordered take out a couple of times. Chips and salsa are fire! In addition to the standard salsa, you get a salsa verde which is a bit spicy, and almost too salty, but delicious, nonetheless. Ask for white queso to complete the pre-meal trifecta. Bonus points if you get one of the red or green chips? The food is fine. It's nothing too fancy or stands out. Based on the level of business, I assume they are consistent with their service and offerings. Ordering take out wasn't easy and the orders were a little wonky, like one item missing rice, a few too many tiny bags of chips (maybe consider one larger bag for take out, so not wasting so much paper?). It started off great- quick initial service. Chips and 2 sauces were served right away... drink order too. I had high expectations. Then the wait.... and wait.. 30 min no food. Waitress said the kitchen was so buzy but I noticed others had their food before us. Just me and my Dad- ordered lunch special and I ordered 2 fish tacos ala carte. 45 min and no food I had filled up on tea and chips/salsa. I was ready to go.... Our waitress never came back so I had to flag down others to bring Togo boxes and the check. The host claimed to have only 1 Togo silverware packet until I my Dad gave her the long stare to force her to remember she could get more from the back...making us appear to be causing a scene no return trips to this place for sure. read more

Disappointed to leave a negative review but we visit here when in town. This specific time we were seated in the back of the restaurant and forgotten about for a good 20-30 minutes. Service was slow and the food was just mediocre. The worst part was when our two kiddos were served their kids meals, one was served in a cool paper car the other on a plate that was fine one had beans and rice one did not but the one that did not get a cool car is 3 so of course she wanted one of her own the waitress said she could get it but it was going to cost us an extra $2..... after being left and forgotten about etc. the least they could have done was throw that in we will probably not be back. I was in the Hot Springs area during the Christmas holidays to spend time with my wife's mother. After all the Christmas goodies, it was time to get my TexMex fix. My wife and mother-in-law left to head out shopping and I was left on my own. Jose's fit the bill for my TexMex fix. The restaurant offers a nice selection of lunch specials. I decided to order the cheese chili rellano special. Shortly after arriving chips and hot sauces were delivered to my table. Two types of salsa were brought to the table, a standard red sauce and a green sauce. The green sauce was tomatillo based and mild in flavor. The red sauce was spicy with a nice "kick". It wasn't "whmmpy" like some of the sauces at many of the TexMex restaurants. The chips were crispy and warm. After enjoying my chips and salsa, my lunch plate was delivered. The chili rellano as really good accompanied with rice and beans. Portion sizes were perfect for a lunch portion. Service was brisk and perfect for lunchtime. Next time I'm back in the Hot Springs area, I'll definitely stop into Jose's to explore more of the menu. read more

I don't know what has happened to my favorite Mexican restaurant, But when I picked up my food last night, the price went up and I received to wrong thing. I'm terribly upset, because this is not the first time. The food just isn't what it once was. We either get chimmi's or street tacos. I always get the pulled pork ones, they are usually AMAZING! I received the pork I think, with pineapple I think that' what it was can't be for sure. One tiny piece of a lime, beans at the bottom of colored water, what's up with Jose's here as of late. Jose's on Malvern Went to Jose's for late lunch or early dinner. The food was excellent as always and everyone enjoyed their meal. The service was terrible!! We were seated quickly, it was around 4 pm, server took our drink orders. She returned with drinks and took our food order. Didn't see her again until food was served!! Then didn't see her again until meal was finished. No checking on drinks, chips, salsa, etc.!! I am sure we will return as we enjoy the food, but service was really a bummer today!! read more

Pretty average. We're on vacation in Hot Springs and read reviews on Jose's and decided to try it. Walking out we decided they must be reviewing the other one...ugh. Even the margarita was tasting watered down. I ordered a shot of tequila to make it taste like something. Jose's Mexican Grill & Cantina has good Mexican/Tex-Mex food. The original restaurant is past the Lake Hamilton bridges on highway 7 South and even with its out of the way location, locals wait to get into this restaurant for white cheese dip and a good meal. The Green salsa is cucumber, very different. Jose's now has a second location on Malvern Avenue. Jose's is by far the most popular Mexican restaurant in Hot Springs. Today's order was a take-out due to Covid-19. We were not quite as pleased as we have been with dine-in food quality. Instead of a Taco Salad , our ordered items came more as a 7-layer salad in a taco bowl. We ended up eating by layers. Quality was good as was the flavor. We were provided chips and red salsa but did not get their green salsa. We really missed that. Good quality for the price. We will continue to patronize Jose's on Malvern Avenue. read more

Nice place. We arrived when the place was packed and had to wait on a Tuesday evening. We were seated in a reasonable amount of time. Service was quick and efficient and we had our dinner right away. Received nachos with beef and the quality of beef was worse than Taco Bell the cheese dip turned into silicone when it settled plus it was overpriced Now to the service and atmosphere: the echo is so bad that you could hear someone's conversation from the other side of the restaurant. Ordered beef and shrimp fajitas to go and they forgot to include tortillas so after getting home and unloading the bag I had to return to the restaurant. Once I got home I tasted the dry, bland fajita meat and wished I would have returned the whole meal. There was also some large, semi melted clump of cheese that came with it that I wasn't sure what to do with. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more
