This Spanish tapas haven, lovingly crafted by a husband-and-wife team and named after their infant son, transforms dining into something approaching art. The covered garden terrace, adorned with tropical plants and cooled by gentle fans, creates an oasis of tranquility where time moves at a more civilized pace. The Ensalada Casa Tomas--layers of ripe tomatoes, creamy avocado, and tangy feta with what I suspect is the finest balsamic this side of the Caribbean--exemplifies their approach of elevating simple ingredients through careful attention. The red snapper arrived cooked with the kind of respect that suggests the chef actually cares about the fish's dignity, flaky and moist with a parsley sauce that enhanced rather than masked its natural character. Our first time in Cozumel and with only a few hours to explore (cruise ship port day) we knew we wanted to find an authentic Mexican restaurant for dinner. We stumbled upon Casa Tomas on Yelp and decided to walk over. It was only about a 6-8 minutes walk from the cruise ship dock, but just tucked away to feel like an escape. The space is BEAUTIFUL and the ambience matches. The service was wonderful and we ate so many amazing and flavorful tapas dishes. I cannot even remember them all, but we loved them all. One of our favorites was the Carne Fiesta and we also had several types of various fried cheeses (haha) that were delicious! We would not hesitate to eat here again and will recommend to everyone we know. Prices on the menu are in pesos but they accept US Dollars (cash only). We had an amazing, delicious and authentic Mexican meal here for about $50 US Dollars. Score! read more

Casa Tomas is a welcome respite of tranquility and loveliness. Every detail seems thought out for it's simplicity and beauty. Dining is on the back terrace overlooking a peaceful yard with tropical plants and spice gardens. We have eaten here two nights so far and are looking forward to our next meal. The Casa Tomas salad is a perfect blend of tomatoes, avocado, and feta with what I think is a nice balsamic sauce. It is my favorite. Last night we had the red snapper with parsley sauce and it was cooked perfectly. Tonight I had the fish soup which was a wonderful blend of hot and spicy. My Friend had the grilled shrimp and enjoyed it immensely. Thank you for creating such a sophisticated and relaxed dining experience. read more

What an unexpected find! The four in our party were on our way to another restaurant (New Especiales, also high recommended) when we happened to notice a warm, inviting lobby spilling out to a beautiful garden setting that demanded we investigate further. So glad we did. We luckily stumbled upon Casa Tomas, a new Spanish tapas restaurant that's only been open a couple of weeks. Owned by husband and wife and named after their currently 8-month old son, Casa Tomas is absolutely gorgeous architecturally (one of the owners is an architect by trade). Extensive use of this old home's structure has been integrated with modern touches that creates a lovely atmosphere for sitting on the covered back patio, under fans that keeps the air fresh, with subtle and perfect music playing in the background. Of course decor wouldn't mean anything if the food itself wasn't good, and here's where we were even more happily impressed. We started with 3 small plates: a) the Queso Asado Con Mojo Picon, which was some cheese dish that I can't explain but blew our taste bud's minds; 2) the Ensalada Casa Tomas which was a layer of tomatoes and a layer of feta cheese and a layer of advocado on rope, also amazing; and 3) the Tortilla de Patatas, which was only so-so to our party. But again, 2 of the 3 were frickin fantastic! Our main courses included the Gambas Asadas al Ajillo (shrimp in buttery garlic heaven, the red snapper, and a pork dish whose name escapes me. Each dish was loved by its suitor. The staff was excellent, the owners warm and full of hospitality...even the damn water they served was special (we detected a lemon/lime infusion). Anyone visiting Cozumel, even if for only a day jaunt via a cruise ship, should seek Casa Tomas out. Once the word gets around I expect they'll be hard to get a table at. And deservedly so...this place should be on the top of any food loving traveler's list. read more

We had wonderful experience dining at Casa Tomas! The food was delicious, hot, homemade bread and sauces, an amazing creamy lobster potato salad and very satisfying lambchops with pear sauce and rosemary potatoes. The restaurant has a unique, comfortable, classy design combination with genuine local architectural elements throughout. There is a nice herb garden which we looked at while we waited for our main dishes. Great service too! read more

The owner welcomed us in and took great care of us, food was amazing for the area, and was a great atmosphere compared to the typical tourist fare. the open air patio was great and the sangria was perfect for a warm night. Highly suggest the cured meats and the grilled cheese with two mojo sauces. The staff is fluent in spanish and english. read more

The food here is excellent. My boyfriend and I enjoyed our dinner here so much that we came back two more times. Casa Tomas has the best food of every place we've tried in Cozumel thus far. The highlights of our meals were: the grilled octopus entree, which was cooked perfectly; the lamb, which is *delicious*; the gazpacho-like soup (I'm forgetting what it is called); and the grilled cheese, which is served in honey with two different sauces, and is to die for. Casa Tomas is a hidden gem in Cozumel. It's just South of the square on 5, tucked away from a lot of people. More people need to know about this restaurant. The atmosphere is stunning -- a modern feel with some old original island vibes and a great patio. The food is excellent. Try the Prosciutto croquettes. read more

We stumbled upon this place after finding a place to park in downtown Cozumel. We had the best meal we have ever had on Cozumel for lunch that day. We then took our whole group back for dinner tonight. This is exactly the kind of place that I wish there were more of on the island. The decor of the restaurant was only eclipsed by the food.
