    Sangria!

My husband and I love coming to this place! Great paella, tapas, and sangria! From the tapas, we have tried octopus ceviche, meatballs, stuffed mini peppers, papas bravas, tomato bread... Everything is delicious! We definitely recommend this place!

Great great seafood paella! The taste and portion size are excellent. The octopus Garcia is definitely a surprise, tender and flavourful. Their handmade bread with tomatoes and ham are very nice too. Strongly recommended.

Roasted veggie tapas featuring red peppers, zucchini, and cheese. Was delicious.

Amazing tapas and hospitality! Stopped by on a Friday night and was treated to amazing Spanish food and hospitality. El Tapas is a few blocks off of the busy 5th ave strip, which is great relief given how loud the 5th ave can get. You are greeted by a super friendly staff and the menu is in both Spanish and English. We ordered the mixed seafood and meat tapas, which the lady hostess told us would take 30 minutes to cook, they make it to order here folks and you can taste the difference. The paella had phenomenal depth and was moist, not too salty, and with just the right amount of burnt rice sticking to the hot pan to add a complexity of flavor. There were giant prawns, squid, mussels, clams, pork ribs, and chicken, all perfectly cooked. We also ordered the roasted veggie tapas which consisted of delicious red peppers and zucchini topped off with cheese. Overall, a great experience with authentic food in a town that can seem a bit fake at times.

This was an awesome find! Even though I'm giving it 4 stars (i.e. Due to extra long wait time after ordering our food), the food quality is definitely a 5 star. We had the seafood paella...I realize to have a quality paella dish, you have to wait a little while. But my wife and I felt like it took a little longer than what I'd expect a restaurant service to take. But it could be due a very might as well. In any case, we were very happy with how our food turned out. We also had their sangria and I gotta be honest...that was the best drink I had in Playa! We would definitely pay this place avidity if we're back in Playa.

I liked the tortilla! I also had the gazpacho, mondaditos with pork and prawns in garlic but did not really like these.

Wish I got the tasting menu but I opted for 3 of the specialties instead and they were delicious... Tasting menu is best value tho! I got the raw trout sashimi thing and it was by far the best plate of the meal (first dish/appetizer) , then got the shrimp flautas (good not amazing) then I got the trout loin for the entree (good not amazing) Skinny marg was perfect and so was the waitress! Would recommend and go back but like I said I would for sure do with the 6 or 8 course tasting menu!

Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared and showcased traditional Mexican cuisine in a way that was both refined and comforting. My favourites were the roasted cauliflower, which was incredibly flavourful, and the birria taco. The taco was excellent, although I personally would have preferred it made with beef instead of lamb. That's purely a personal preference, as the preparation and seasoning were fantastic. The only downside to the experience was the mosquitoes. I was bitten four times in the span of about an hour while dining. The staff even offered bug spray shortly after I sat down, which suggests it's a known issue. While I appreciated the gesture, it did detract from an otherwise excellent meal. Overall, the food alone makes Axiote well worth a visit, and it's easy to see why it's included in the Michelin Guide. If you're planning to dine there, I'd recommend bringing insect repellent and spraying yourself heavily.

Now, I've stumbled through my fair share of tourist traps masquerading as authentic cuisine, but…read moreCasa Tomas proved to be that rarest of finds--a genuine gem tucked away just minutes from the cruise dock yet worlds apart in spirit. This Spanish tapas haven, lovingly crafted by a husband-and-wife team and named after their infant son, transforms dining into something approaching art. The covered garden terrace, adorned with tropical plants and cooled by gentle fans, creates an oasis of tranquility where time moves at a more civilized pace. The Ensalada Casa Tomas--layers of ripe tomatoes, creamy avocado, and tangy feta with what I suspect is the finest balsamic this side of the Caribbean--exemplifies their approach of elevating simple ingredients through careful attention. The red snapper arrived cooked with the kind of respect that suggests the chef actually cares about the fish's dignity, flaky and moist with a parsley sauce that enhanced rather than masked its natural character. Service operates on the principle that hospitality is an art form, with staff who understand the delicate balance of attentiveness without intrusion. Even the water comes subtly infused with citrus--a detail that speaks to their commitment to excellence in all things. In an age when dining often feels like theater, Casa Tomas offers something increasingly rare: authentic experience delivered with quiet confidence, reminding you why you travel in the first place.

We stumbled upon Casa Tomas on Yelp and decided to walk over. It was only about a 6-8 minutes walk from the cruise ship dock, but just tucked away to feel like an escape. The space is BEAUTIFUL and the ambience matches. The service was wonderful and we ate so many amazing and flavorful tapas dishes. I cannot even remember them all, but we loved them all. One of our favorites was the Carne Fiesta and we also had several types of various fried cheeses (haha) that were delicious! We would not hesitate to eat here again and will recommend to everyone we know. Prices on the menu are in pesos but they accept US Dollars (cash only). We had an amazing, delicious and authentic Mexican meal here for about $50 US Dollars. Score!
