    Grilled Octopus w/potatoes

The most amazing ceviche I have ever tasted it! I ordered the fresh catch of the day and the octopus w/potatoes was the winner. I would come back every time I'm back to Playa

My husband and I visited Cassa Ceviche for our anniversary. I went once before during my bachelorette trip and liked it so much I wanted to return. Upon arrival, it was pretty bare but we took this as an opportunity to have the restaurant to ourselves for our anniversary. The interior is dark, woodsy and full of nature. The only seating is outdoors. For starters, we ordered the beef filet-antichuchos. In addition, we were provided fried plantain chips. Both items were really delicious. We also ordered a classic margarita and the house speciality cocktail. For entrees, we had the hot dish-seafood rice with shrimp and mussels only. It was really good. It came out piping hot. To finish the night, we had the choclo cake with ice cream. It was unique, yet flavorful dish. It reminded us of sweet cornbread. The actual dining portion was great and tasty. The star deduction comes from the WiFi connection not working on the card reader, so we provided our payment in Pesos. As we were leaving, the owner ran out the door to let my husband know the amount he provided in Pesos did not cover tip he , although we paid over the amount of our meal. We took it as he wanted to be paid in USD; however, it was out of our control that his machine wasn't working properly and that was our initial intentions. It was annoying because you would have thought that we cheated him in our payment for the bill, but in actuality he wanted more tip. This part took away from our overall dining experience because we felt harassed and embarrassed, thinking we had not paid the right amount for our food. Overall, I can definitely suggest this place for the food side, but I hope they get their WiFi connection working properly to prevent this type of situation happening in the future.

So glad we decided to try this place it was excellent!! This spot has a really enchanting vibe that's well decorated & romantic. This place will no doubt get more & more busy as time goes on. I feel like the owner of this restaurant is very intelligent & he personally takes good care of his customers. The food was wonderful & unique. If you're looking for a new experience & really delightful food/ cocktails- look no further!! We were in the mood for sashimi & ceviche so that's what we got. The tuna with passion fruit was my favorite dish it was sweet and delicious. My second favorite was the Mayan shrimp ceviche. We also got a traditional ceviche dish that was also delicious- kind of sour but it was my wife's favorite dish. If you come to Playa Del Carmen do not sleep on this place or you will miss out on a truly unique place. It was wonderful- highly recommended! Happy eating!!

I've spent a lot of time in Playa, and this is one of the best restaurants around. Surprised it took me so long to check it out. The good: - nice ambiance (outdoor) - good value except maybe the drinks The excellent: - the ceviche of course--I ordered the classic - really enjoyed the starter as well, which was essentially sashimi - oddly enough really good sparkling water Definitely worth a visit.

Small kitchen run with love! An absolute gem--the perfect getaway away from the tourist traps on the main streets. Recommend sitting on the high table with the view into the kitchen and bar area. Spotless, everything was fresh, flavorfully seasoned and cooked to perfection. One of only of three restaurants to ever bring a real tear of joy to my eye at the end of the meal. (On this occasion, that came after the dessert had served as the perfect end to our night here.) We had a mix of anticuchos (skewers), ceviche and tried the pisco sour and a mescal cocktail -- and finished with a delicious sweet corn bread dish that was like a honey cornbread bread pudding -- served with house-made cinnamon ice cream. A+ (PS. I believe it's always worth asking for recommendations at places like this. They take pride and clearly have passion in their art here.)

Incredible dining experience with this chefs presentation and delicious flavors I would pay triple for this dining experience in the USA! We went on a whim and it turned out to be fantastic who could ask for more! Get the Cameron ceviche and they also have vegetarian ceviche for the vegan! The flavors and food are all fresh and homemade! We just ordered the chocolate cake which is an original corn cake form the Mayan's you will be disappointed in this place!!!

I was hoping my 1000th review would be at Eleven Madison Park or The French Laundry or something. But alas covid has placed me in Playa Del Carmen, Mexíco with an aggressive count of affordable restaurants in my vicinity. I'm not the type to wait to write reviews. So here we are. This is a very good rendition of Peruvian seafood cuisine. I ordered the Pisco Sour to start. This is just a drink I suppose I don't enjoy that much. I found it more bitter and acidic than I prefer. For first course I enjoyed the Octopus Causa. This is a dish of very tender octopus over pureed Yucca. The octopus was excellent. The sauce was acidic enough to bite through the Yucca. For my main I ordered the classic Ceviche. I just found the dish a bit too limey/acidic for my tastes. But for ceviche it was very good. The octopus and fish were very tender. The corn bits added a nice crunch. And the complimentary plantain chips were also very crispy and complemented the ceviche well. Overall this is a great spot for Peruvian food.

You can check out my full video of Cassa Ceviche on tiktok: official_kimmylicious_ Felt as if I was dining in a Michelin restaurant. The food tastes phenomenal!!! We ordered nushroom ceviche, classic ceviche, Peruvian ceviche and something else. Jamaica and Jamaica cocktail (hibiscus). Space is very limited, so reserve a table. I highly recommend coming early as they run out of menu items quickly. You can check their website for updated listings of what is still available.

Ceviche mixto (185 pesos) Jan 2021

Peruvian style ceviche is the best! Cassa Ceviche is the cutest restaurant we went to during our trip. It's tucked away far from 5th, totally worth walking to or taking a taxi. The backside of the restaurant is covered in trees and has long wooden tables as well as huge umbrellas. The ambiance is perfect. Now to the ceviche. Amazing. We ordered the mixto, it was so good that we came back the night after and got it again. Super fresh seafood! The ceviche has a carrot or squash side and crunchy corn. The textures complement the seafood and make for an awesome dish. We also tried the octopus and their fish dish, all good, but the ceviche is the star here. Cocktails are pretty and delicious. Service was excellent. The price for the quality can't be beat. 185 pesos for the ceviche (about $9). The other dishes are a little overpriced IMO but the ceviche is sooo worth it.

Octopus - SO tender! Que rico!

The food was amazing! The service was great! The cocktails were epic! The prices were amazingly affordable. It's one of my top places to eat in Playa! I can't wait to come back.

A little place set apart from the tourisy 5th ave. It fulfilled my craving for ceviches. I went there solo, the server was very friendly and attentive. The ceviche trilogy hit the spot, seafood was fresh and good amount of meat. I was allowed to redeem the free drink from yelp check-in, really made my night-it was delicious. Recommended here if you love seafood, bonus points English menu is available and credit cards are accepted

I guess they weren't prepared for it to be this busy on a Wednesday night. The food was all really good, except for the fish. It was grilled well but tasted a bit dry. Only the top of the fish that was covered in sauce had flavor but it didn't seep through to the bottom of the fish. I recommend getting the Seafood Ceviche because they make it with coconut milk, which was different from all the other ceviches we had on our trip. Other than the slow service, this was a good experience. Seafood Ceviche 9/10 Crispy Jumbo Shrimps 9/10 Soft Shell Crab Taco 9/10 Fresh Catch of the Day (half garlic butter, half ictio) 7/10

Location 5/5, Service 5/5, Food 4/5, Drinks 5/5, Clientele…read more2/5 *more on that below* This spot has one of the best beachside settings in Playa del Carmen. The entire restaurant, including the bar, is literally set in the sand, with tables right on the water just a few feet from the ocean. It's barefoot, toes in the sand dining done right, and the atmosphere alone makes it worth the visit. We did have one hiccup in the evening due to a rowdy group from a drone company that was extremely intoxicated and invasive of our space. Their belongings kept ending up on our table, and there were drunk men taking their shirts off and doing shots just a few feet away. Not sure if they didn't have enough tables or what, but we had made a reservation to celebrate a special event months in advanced, so it was a bit irritating. The servers eventually handled it and intervened multiple times, but at no point were they asked to move or relocate. Once that group settled down, the night became a much more enjoyable experience. We were a party of 12, and every single person raved about both their food and drinks. For drinks we had: Prickly Pear: Made with Orange Blossom Condesa Gin, St Germain, fresh lemon juice, rosemary syrup, mint, and strawberry. Bright and refreshing, though it came with more foam on top than expected. Coco Loco: A fresh whole coconut with Patrón Silver tequila, vodka, rum, gin, pineapple juice, and coconut cream. A true showstopper. Don't be intimidated by the mix of liquor, it is smooth, refreshing, and dangerously easy to drink. No hangovers were had. Espresso Martini: Simple and clean with a light foam. Well executed, but not a signature cocktail compared to the others. For food we had: We were surprised with an amuse bouche of huitlacoche, often called Mexican truffle. It's a corn fungus with a rich, earthy flavor and this small bite was outstanding and set the tone for the meal. Queso Fundido: Oaxaca cheese with chorizo and flour tortillas. Great flavor, but very thick, making it a bit messy and difficult to serve. Guacamole: Prepared with tomato, onion, cilantro, and cotija cheese. Perfectly seasoned, fresh, and especially enjoyable paired with the queso fundido. Brisket: Served in chileatole sauce with huitlacoche truffle, carrots, and cotija cheese. Comforting, rich, and deeply flavorful. Robalo Guayaba: Guava sea bass served in guava sauce with chiltepín chili. Beautifully cooked with just a little too much sweetness and citrus. It would have benefited from a little bit of heat, or a vegetable or side to pair it with, as it is not served with anything other than a cooked slices of lemon. Creme Brulee Mexicano: A rice pudding infused crème brûlée with caramel and vanilla ice cream. A thoughtful twist on the classic, with the rice pudding adding depth and warmth to the dessert. Knocked down to 4 stars due to the rowdiness of some surrounding guests. We were seated on the sand and needed to walk through the entirety of the restaurant, but people without tables or reservations were standing in the middle of walkways and sitting on the steps down to the beach, many too intoxicated to stand up. I'm hopeful this is not the usual clientele, and I would return for the quality of the food, drinks, and the gorgeous setting.
