Oh. Em. Gee. So good. Ceviche is my fave and when I came to Mexico I knew I needed my ceviche fix! Our resort had some ceviche and it was decent but just didn't have the broth and complexity that I crave. Found this place and walked a couple miles to get there when it opened. I was beyond impressed. The atmosphere is quaint and warm, service prompt and friendly. This is everything I think of when I envision the perfect ceviche even though the ingredients are a little eclectic. Like any good dish, they're perfect and I wouldn't change a thing. My husband and I visited Cassa Ceviche for our anniversary. I went once before during my bachelorette trip and liked it so much I wanted to return. Upon arrival, it was pretty bare but we took this as an opportunity to have the restaurant to ourselves for our anniversary. The interior is dark, woodsy and full of nature. The only seating is outdoors. For starters, we ordered the beef filet-antichuchos. In addition, we were provided fried plantain chips. Both items were really delicious. We also ordered a classic margarita and the house speciality cocktail. For entrees, we had the hot dish-seafood rice with shrimp and mussels only. It was really good. It came out piping hot. To finish the night, we had the choclo cake with ice cream. It was unique, yet flavorful dish. It reminded us of sweet cornbread. The actual dining portion was great and tasty. The star deduction comes from the WiFi connection not working on the card reader, so we provided our payment in Pesos. As we were leaving, the owner ran out the door to let my husband know the amount he provided in Pesos did not cover tip he , although we paid over the amount of our meal. We took it as he wanted to be paid in USD; however, it was out of our control that his machine wasn't working properly and that was our initial intentions. It was annoying because you would have thought that we cheated him in our payment for the bill, but in actuality he wanted more tip. This part took away from our overall dining experience because we felt harassed and embarrassed, thinking we had not paid the right amount for our food. Overall, I can definitely suggest this place for the food side, but I hope they get their WiFi connection working properly to prevent this type of situation happening in the future. read more

(On this occasion, that came after the dessert had served as the perfect end to our night here.) I was hoping my 1000th review would be at Eleven Madison Park or The French Laundry or something. But alas covid has placed me in Playa Del Carmen, Mexíco with an aggressive count of affordable restaurants in my vicinity. I'm not the type to wait to write reviews. So here we are. This is a very good rendition of Peruvian seafood cuisine. I ordered the Pisco Sour to start. This is just a drink I suppose I don't enjoy that much. I found it more bitter and acidic than I prefer. For first course I enjoyed the Octopus Causa. This is a dish of very tender octopus over pureed Yucca. The octopus was excellent. The sauce was acidic enough to bite through the Yucca. For my main I ordered the classic Ceviche. I just found the dish a bit too limey/acidic for my tastes. But for ceviche it was very good. The octopus and fish were very tender. The corn bits added a nice crunch. And the complimentary plantain chips were also very crispy and complemented the ceviche well. Overall this is a great spot for Peruvian food. read more

Peruvian style ceviche is the best! Cassa Ceviche is the cutest restaurant we went to during our trip. It's tucked away far from 5th, totally worth walking to or taking a taxi. The backside of the restaurant is covered in trees and has long wooden tables as well as huge umbrellas. The ambiance is perfect. Now to the ceviche. Amazing. We ordered the mixto, it was so good that we came back the night after and got it again. Super fresh seafood! The ceviche has a carrot or squash side and crunchy corn. The textures complement the seafood and make for an awesome dish. We also tried the octopus and their fish dish, all good, but the ceviche is the star here. Cocktails are pretty and delicious. Service was excellent. The price for the quality can't be beat. 185 pesos for the ceviche (about $9). The other dishes are a little overpriced IMO but the ceviche is sooo worth it. read more

Wonderful! We were shopping at the Mega not far away and starving for lunch. Hubby is always in the mood for ceviche, so we came here. We were the only ones in the restaurant at the time, and received wonderful service. The food-amazing and fresh! Hubby had Ceviche Mixta and I had the Aji Gallina. Wow wow wow. If you are looking for good Peruvian food in Playa, look no further. My wife is from Peru and I have travelled there with her extensively, so our palates are pretty refined when it comes to Peruvian cuisine. We thrive on ceviche and anticuchos and so does Cassa Ceviche, apparently. Quickly I will note that we did try another highly rated place in Playa that sells ceviche. It was no contest. Cassa Ceviche is a little bit off the beaten path for most, but is well worth the stroll even if you are coming from further down the beach. We arrived around 3pm and were seated immediately. Our waiter was very attentive and pleasant. The setting is like a modern garden with outdoor seating that was permanently covered. It was a warm day in the peak of the spring break season, but we were very comfortable. Right away we were offered some plantain chips and little ceramic cups of cilcano soup. WHAT?! The soup was a perfect touch. I wanted more... What we ordered: For drinks, my wife had a chicha morada and I ordered a classic chilcano. I'm not a fan of chicha in general, but my wife liked hers quite a bit. I know chicha can vary drastically in quality, freshness, and flavor, so her stamp of a approval doesn't come easy. My chicano was bright and fizzy and had just the right amount of pisco. It was the perfect midday drink and a nice break from beers and margs in Mexico. My wife also liked it a lot so unfortunately I did not get to drink the whole thing myself! For food, we ordered the choritos a la chalaca, the anticuchos, and the ceviche clasico. I'll begin with the lowest point: the choritos. They were not bad. I would probably order them again. They were, however, a little lacking in the acid and heat departments. we added a little of the leche de tigre from our ceviche to punch them up again. I suspect these will improve quickly (this place has only been open a few months). The anticuchos: Wowzers. These were not hearts or other organ meats. They were something like loin on skewers. So, not exactly traditional, but you can get this variation in Lima. Three skewers of tender and juicy beef, right off the grill. These were perfectly seasoned and we knew when they were about to be served to us because the savory aroma filled the entire dining space. Mouth watering. They were served with some perfectly roasted potatoes which were honestly just as attractive as the beef. My wife and I battled for the last spud. Underneath it all was some sort of garlic aioli. It was an unexpected and tangy addition and really made the whole dish slap. I fought the urge to lick the plate. The ceviche clasico: Ceviche is easy to get wrong. More often than not, the limes get over-squeezed by a speedy prep cook with a lemon squeezer. This causes the bitter taste of the pith to make its way into to juice. So it takes special care to get all the juice from the limes while still treating them gently. There was not a trace of pith in this leche de tigre. It was just the right balance of heat (from rocoto pepper), acid, and salt. The fish was fresh and cut into cubes of about 1.5 cm. It was served with a dollop of puree'd (and not cold) sweet potato. When we try ceviche in a new place, we normally order only one order until we have tasted it first. In this case, the first spoonful barley passed our lips before we were flagging down our waiter for another bowl. We've had ceviche in Lima that does not rise to this level. We discovered this place on our second to last day here. If we had visited earlier in the week, we would have gone back a second time. It is that good. Go. Eat. Enjoy. Tell your friends. Please keep this place in business so my wife and I can return on our next visit to Playa del Carmen. read more

I came here because I love ceviche and searched Yelp, turns out it was just down the block from where I was staying! The food here is AMAZING. A true work of art. They start you off with a little amuse-bouche, very classy. The plantain chips are addicting! Crisp to perfection with a touch of sweetness. I ordered the Ceviche Mixto and Pescado de la Macho. Both were delicious and exquisitely prepared. I would happily eat here every day! The food is very elegant though the vibe is casual, with a modern industrial craftsman ambiance so you feel relaxed.
