The one time I chose not to listen to the reviews...I should have trusted my gut instinct and left after no one addressed me or offered me a water, minutes after being seated. I ordered the shrimp ceviche and mango margarita. While the ceviche was decent, the mango margarita was terrible. It felt like a waste of money. The taste was off and it was not strong at all. A few years back we were here before we truly enjoyed it then... that's why we came back and brought our friends.. the decor is pretty indoor and out with local musicians playing outside . My sangria was great but here it comes the but... the menu had very few happy hour choices the choices were meals... actually it wasn't happy hour prices it was very pricey for happy hour drinks and chips and salsa. This is now our lunch spot every time we pull into port in Cozumel- we have been numerous times now and simply meander the port and enjoy a delicious pina colada, wonderful local lunch and enjoy gorgeous views of the water. Service is always attentive- the place has a very laid back, you are on vacation vibe. I also LOVE the shop attached and the musicians playing the steel drums are always a treat. What a delightful time in Cozumel. This was our last port on our Princess Cruise November 2024. A dear friend of mine lives in Cancun. She took the ferry over to spend the day with us. After my wife and her shopping, we were all tired and it was time to take a refreshing break. Of course, I checked Yelp for some recommendations and Pancho's Backyard was highly rated and we were all staring at it. What wonderful service and food we experienced while we were there. we were seated on the patio; it was a beautiful day. Right across the walkway on the ocean side, there were two locals serenading us with beautiful tunes and Christmas Carols on the xylophone. They were so skillful and the music wafting over the whole area completed a picture-perfect day. It was a day in paradise. We ordered chips and guacamole to start. Wow, phenomenal guac and chips, some of the best I've had in a long time. Our friend ordered a plate of handmade tamales, my wife ordered the chicken quesadillas, and I opted for the sampler platter which gave me a taste of everything. It had chicken quesadilla, taquitos, grilled chicken with peppers and onions, refried beans and rice. Our server was so friendly and explained everything on the menu. Let's not forget the round of margaritas. The perfect addition to our meal. Everything was so delicious. All of entrees were delicious. During my recent travels to Cozumel, Mexico we decided to try this Mexican restaurant and it did not disappoint. It's a large venue and sort of upscale restaurant as is connected to a gift shop for tourist in the area which sells very nice clothing, silver jewelry and artisan artwork, etc. The restaurant has a beautiful outdoor lush garden patio and it right across on the ocean front. I had high hopes and was supervised how good the food was as I know this place is more a tourist stop as the prices were higher than average. The margaritas were huge size and top notch flavors. This was one of our best meals we had during our vacation travels. We ordered the carne asada steak fajitas, fish tacos and table side guacamole and appetizers. The waiter was excellent and catering to our needs to ensure we have a good experience. I would got back to this place for sure next time I'm in Cozumel. So if you're getting off a cruise ship or vacations in the area feel free to try this place as it's really good. What a great little restaurant here in Cozumel, Mexico. We were immediately greeted and got to sit right next to the ocean view we love so much. The food prices were decent for the area. I have Chicken Taquitos and my aunt ordered Mexican rice with cheese. Not a single bite went uneaten. We also got a few drinks and enjoyed the sound of a marimba duo performing for us. Wow great ambiance inside and with being close to the port, it was accessible. The staff was awesome and catered to us despite they were closing in 30 mins. They even brought out their xylophone players to play your typical Caribbean music. My wife had the huge Strawberry Daiquiri and it was amazing! The food was top notch- garlic shrimp were tender and the rice and beans were tasty, the chicken taquitos were stuffed with meat and the guac they came with was perfect. My only complaint was the standard margarita on the rocks- it was pretty mediocre. Maybe I should have gone with frozen but I had a much better margarita in our stop at Costa Maya. I would only eat here if you have no other option. I have had better Mexican out of a microwave. Everything lacks flavor. They are absolutely doing the least amount of work for the cruise ship terminal and it is 1000% clear. The enchiladas were cold, grainy, and had no flavor. Arrived on the Sky Princess, alongside, Regal Princess, Harmony of the seas, and 2 other cruise ships. The nice part, we were able to walk off onto the pier, through their duty free liquor/gift shop and into a large outdoor mall area filled with shops and bars. Our neighbor recommended Pancho's, so away we went. Due to the large number of tourists, there was a 10-15 min wait after putting our name down. While waiting, strolled through their large gift shop area. Due to this being a tourist area, prices are elevated. Pina colada and margarita drinks were $15 each. My pina colada was watery and the margarita was on the sour side. Their redeeming quality is the view, live instrumental music and food. We ordered their tamales . There were 3 flat tamales filled with quite a bit of boneless shredded chicken, sauce and Mexican rice. The flavor of the tamale and rice was actually good, but expensive for $22. Our server was efficient and took our order and our drinks and food arrived quickly. Overall, if we had more time, we would actually have gone outside the mall area for more authentic food and drinks and a better value. read more

Upon exiting your Carnival or Princess cruise ship, this place is located in the central area facing the water and ships. However, since we traveled on Celebrity, we had to cross enemy lines go through a checkpoint to try this place. It's the middle of July, so it's dangerously hot. The place is outdoors, mostly covered but have lots of fans. Their margaritas are famous as they are served in giant glasses, however the establishment has no straws. We tried the tamales (not pictured) but they were amazing. very soft and flavorful with chicken served with a side of rice. We were visiting via a Carnival cruise. They had switched our port time and we cancelled our excursion. Needless to say, we were somewhat stuck at the cruise terminal as it didn't really seem safe to explore right outside. The great part is that this is a very large shopping area with restaurants and stores. Pancho's backyard is attached to a nice store & it lured us in for lunch. The patio is great and the server was very nice. I ordered the steak nachos for $18 (yes, in Mexico). This place definitely caters to the cruise tourists as I would never expect to pay that price anywhere else in Mexico. The steak was super salty and not good, but the rest of the nachos were OK and I ate it. I think next time I would stick to drinks and appetizers! read more

Poncho's still up to "Fan Favorite". The patio dining still a huge draw. We were a party of 5. We come here every year so the staff knows us, has seen our kids grow up. Food still remains very good, Their Suprema de Pollo en Mole Poblano (breast of chicken with mole poblano, sesame seeds, a vegetarian chimichanga, black beans and chihuahua cheese) is one of my most favorite dishes. Ordered a spread of food ranging from gazpacho, mahi, garlic shrimp and chicken enchilada and all the flavors are quite bland. Margaritas are very acidic and watered down. Nothing outstanding. Slow service throughout. Have to chase the server down for the check. We paid using a credit card and you can choose the usd option. The tip system requires you to let your server know in advance what to give them and that's when our server was huffing and puffing that he didn't like what he received. Probably not worth returning.
