Wanting to continue enjoying the company after a movie, we headed here for some drinks, which mainly consisted of chocolate oriented items. I ordered the calamari because I felt that's a pretty safe item and it can be compared across restaurants. It arrived and I was slightly surprised as it was spiced and lightly sauced, not tempura-ed or breaded or fried. Once I got over that, the taste was good; granted that this was most likely a sharable dish, I'd recommend getting something else to pair with it because eating the entire thing by yourself is not the way to go. Especially when everyone else is enjoying baby churros with shot glasses of melted chocolate. Also, make sure to make your order well known. A lady at our table ordered the same drink three times and hadn't received it until we were about to go. The manager came over and served her personally, explaining that they had some new staff and apologized for the confusion. By this point, she was already over not receiving the drink, but once she sipped it, she was wishing she had received it a lot earlier. read more

If you have a big group coming, it pays to take the tapas (Mezze Platter) option and enjoy dipping your bread, meatballs and veges into a variety of sauces. If you're feeling really hungry, a nice kebab or Grilled Halloumi Cheese all to yourself will satisfy your cravings. If not, even a small plate of Spanish Tomato Bread is particularly filling. Been here multiple times now and the food is always amazing. Last night I had the sakuska and my Friend had the falafels - they're small plates (entrees) but very filling. Everything I eat here tastes fresh and is full of flavor. For dessert we had the sticky date pudding and it was the best - highly recommend trying this if you're gonna do dessert. Service has always been great too, friendly service, very attentive and fast. If you're planning on doing an early dinner then walking in should be okay but if you're gonna go a little later I would recommend making a reservation as it gets busy quickly. Avoid getting a table by the door as the constant opening and shutting of the door and foot traffic past your table can get annoying. read more

I actually really like the food here but sooooometimesss their flavours are a tad TOO strong and overpowering. Therefore i only come here once in awhile.. Every time I go I order one of these three options. Meatballs. Moorish eggs. Calamari salad (because I'm a sucker for calamari). I looooove their meatballs because they're so flavorful and full of herbs and spices and lathered in a delicious tomato sauce. Moorish eggs include their meatballs so it was a win win discovery hehehe. And I just love calamari or squid in general so can't say no to that! Price wise they are quite high? Around $18 for each meal or sometimes more? Which personally is high for what I get. Personally!!! But for everyone else they probably think it's reasonable haha I dunno I'm a stingy Chiwi hahaha I do love their outdoor seating. Especially their booth seats which are used to divide the restaurant from the walkway, very simple yet nice idea. And in summer it's really relaxing lounging there with some wine or Turkish tea. They also have some funky furniture inside, right next to the outdoor seating (mosaic Turkish chairs....) I've actually taken a lot of friends there and they don't seem to like it as much as me because the flavours are too strong (sometimes for me too). Yummy food, good portions, friendly staff and cool interiors. I've been meaning to check out Casablanca and finally popped in for breakfast. The coffee also gets two thumbs up, for sure. The moorish eggs were full of flavour and reeeaally filling. The pide bread that came with it was really fresh. There was one staff member in particular who was friendly and welcoming who got a nod of approval from my usually overcritical mother. This is always a good sign. Overall, a good experience. I would definitely recommend Casablanca as a breakfast/brunch spot. I'll be back again to try out the lunch and dinner menus. read more

Whenever someone says Middle Eastern Food, another person replies doner kebab oh falafel and don't they eat truck loads of hummus too?!!! hello and welcome to the world of street food. However, in reality Middle Eastern and North African food is a feast of culinary traditions spanning over 23 countries representing the oldest civilizations on earth. There got to be more to it than your hangover kebab wrap. Surely! The reason I love Casablanca is their passion to deliver a very close version to authentic dishes. Their food represents various Middle Eastern and North African countries with detailed description of the ingredients. You have tagines from Morocco ( the lamb version is best), beduoin bulghur pilaf the nomadic style relative of couscous (so good and comes with well more lamb), Jordan hummus is like no other hummus you have tried topped with toasted almonds. My happy meal I have to say is their turkish bride soup made from red lentils and mint ( always saying I DO to that). Their mezza platters are good, although a little messy looking. Sharing lahmajun, falafel and some hummus maybe a better choice for groups. Their only downfall is the waiting staff. Super slow, very unengaging and have limited knowledge of the menu. Their managers are helpful and friendly if you come across them. Right now they are selling slices of pomegranate turkish delight with toasted hazelnuts and almonds, lets just say I walked out with a box full just because it was too good to be true. But, don't take my word for it, they let you sample it before you buy if you say please. read more

It's been a few years since I've been back to Casa Blanca. I've always been a fan of their cuisine. However, their Anatolian Bride Soup has lost its zing. It's supposed to have a slight spicyness. This was more like a warm gazpacho. Having travelled from Istanbul right down to Hatay, Spicy Red Lentil Soup is a staple from western to eastern Turkey. Great form me because I love it! Unfortunately Casa Blanca has changed their recipe. I also ordered the Turkish pide. The best Pide I have ever eaten was from a little Pide baker in Antalya on the South Central coast of Turkey. It was freshly made, with a sprinkle of lamb mince. Kıymalı Pide. It was so dee-lish I bought four and gobbled every one of them up. The Pide served at Casa Blanca was anything but Pide. It was soggy due to the top being covered in mince. There were coriander stalks in it which gave it an uneven taste between mince or coriander. Pide has the infusion of tastes so that the consumer gets an even taste with each bite. I would recommend avoiding this one as it doesn't look anything like a Pide should. For me, the saving grace of my visit to Casa Blanca was the Iskender Kebab. This is a famous dish from Iskenderun. I love this dish for its freshly cooked lamb shish, yoghurt and salad. They also serve Efes Pilsener. A fantastic drop. All in all, I will still keep coming back to Casa Blanca for the Iskender Kebab and Efes Pilsener alone. Great decor and nice and friendly waiting staff. Still one of my favourites in Auckland. read more

Hey this place is not that bad , not that bad at all . Coffee good , service attentive and food pretty delicious. Like a upmarket kebab joint you'll be glad you tried it . I went for the falafel lunch plate that came with 5 balls of falafel , tabouleh , flat bread and hummus. Service is attentive without being too obtrusive or awkward. Casablanca is a great surprise. It's in a mall, which traditionally wouldn't draw a high calibre of restaurant quality, so it was a nice change to find this gem in Sylvia Park. It's Moroccan cuisine (but in reality they do a good mix of North African and Mediterranean cuisine). The food make a nice change and there aren't too many restaurants around that specialise in this. I went during $20 Tagine nights on Monday which is highly recommended. The Tagine was lovely. A good portion, made with fresh ingredients and very tasty. We shared a mezze platter as well which didn't disappoint. Didn't try desserts but there was a good selection on offer. The apple tea is a must though for a digestif and the Turkish coffee is good as well. The service was probably what let down the night - it was fine but the wait staff had to be promoted to do most things like take orders, bring cutlery and refill water. I'll be back for sure though and hopefully the service improves too. read more

Casablanca is a nice change from the usual dining destinations you would find in mall complexes. They offer a menu with a lot of variety and they've also got an extensive gluten free menu, which always gets a thumbs up from me. They have outdoor seating and cushioned booth-type tables in addition to regular seating, so be sure to get in early as these seats fill up first and fast! The flavours are rich throughout most of the dishes so I wouldn't recommend this place for someone with a very strict palette- they may not appreciate the surprises! Their brunch options are great and I always enjoy their French toast- its perfect every single time. Their greek meatballs with yoghurt are also a favourite of mine and they always go down well- from what I've seen it seems to be one of the more popular dishes there. Casablanca is a great addition to Dining Lane in Sylvia Park. I'd recommend going in groups for dinner and sharing dishes- easiest way to try out all that Casablanca has to offer in one go! read more

I was treated today to lunch at a favorite restaurant of mine located in Sylvia park. Cassanova serves Mediterranean meals, and the menu is truly amazing. My boss had a delicious chicken meal which I will have to taste next visit. A collegue enjoyed a huge serving of fish and chips, and the fish looked fresh and tasty, pan fried and not covered in batter. Another colleague loved his Meatball dish while I ate the best calamari of my life. It was the Moat beautifully dressed and spiced salad, and I can't wait to take Friends there. Mix it up, try Casablanca! It's quite hard to tell what it is from the exterior, but once inside there's no mistaking you're somewhere in the Mediterranean. This restaurant is well located with some sun to warm you in the winter air. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is good. I had the Moroccan lamb tagine with Cous Cous and caramelised onions with a lovely sauce. The lamb was lovely and tender enough to be cut with a spoon, the Cous Cous was a normal household Cous Cous with some sultanas and parsley through it. The sauce was a bit liquid but tasted good and the caramelised onions were not actually caramelised. All and all a dish that can be cooked by a housewife. read more

Call ahead! It can be very busy. Visited here for lunch on Queen's Birthday Monday, and it was definitely one of those busy times. The food was slow to arrive, but the waitress explained that there would be a wait and was quick with drinks so we didn't mind too much. I have tried a number of dishes on the menu, however my husband always has the lamb tangine as he says its sooooo good !! I like a bit of variety so have tried the Fish, Black Sea Chicken, Moroccan Meatballs and Iskender Kebab, all very tasty and filling - oh its making my mouth water just thinking about the yummy food. I have been here with a group of friends who all enjoyed their dishes and my husband and I have come many times. They also have a gluten free menu for those who are into that. I found the resturant very busy and wouldn't rate it food wise that great. The service was very good, the food was oily and very small portions. I had the lamb cutlets which must have come from a new born as they were soon small and my wife had a fillet of fish with chips. The fillet was cut thinner and was mall and the side of roasted veg was more green peppers and oil than anything else. What we paid was not worth it at $106 for 2 drinks, 1 entree and 2 mains with side dishes of roast veg. read more
