The food tasted good at CasAntica. The problem with this restaurant is they nickel & dime you. For 2 people they counted out 3 bread slices the width of a baguette and gave it to us with dinner. If you want more bread, they charge you $3.50 (for an extra 5 small slices). I've never seen anything like it! Also, the meals do not come with any sides or pasta, that's extra. If you want chicken marsala you get the chicken, that's it. If you order sides its $6.50 extra. If you want to share the side, its $5+ extra to share so you may as well order 2 sides. That means the price point for each meal is around $30 and you leave hungry. We wanted a special Italian restaurant experience for my birthday which we definitely did not get, and we will NEVER go back. read more

One member of my party was handicapped which was pointed out to the Maitre d'/Greeter/Owner (?). When I asked for a table on the ground level of the restaurant, this woman told me those tables were reserved. There were many free tables both in the outside seating area as well as on the ground level. Nonetheless, we were told our only option was up a flight of stairs. Upon leaving, we saw most of those same tables still available. We will never frequent CasAntica again. I personally do not wish to support a business which disregards Handicapped people. read more

I went to Cantika this evening with my wife and other couple. I ordered veal masala and spaghetti. The veal was in edible. It was so tough I could not cut it with the knife. I sent it back and ordered some pasta Bolognese for $25 it was OK, although overpriced. I did not receive an apology from the management and paid my exorbitant bill. They did not charge me for the veal. I was very disappointed and will never go there again. read more

Absolutely the best Italian food in Sarasota. It is a house that has been converted into an upscale dining experience. The roof and outer patio are also converted into tables. They have an extensive wine list and specials daily. Everything is made from scratch and delicious. They use Open Table to book reservations, which I highly suggest. This is not a cheap place but absolutely worth every penny. We have been here twice and both times have been nothing short of magical. The staff has always bent over backwards to make sure our experience was the best possible. Parking is mostly in a garage across the small street, with a few spots on the street. We will be back in the future for many more amazing meals. read more

Bad food, bad service, and tried to make us pay for a sour bottle of expensive wine...AVOID THIS RESTAURANT! We stayed at the Westin across the street, here to check on our house being built, and thought the restaurant looked charming from the outside. We sat in the garden, ordered a bottle of Amarone Riserva, having acquired the taste of Amarone from one of our travels to Italy and enjoying good wine. (I should have anticipated what was coming; there were only four tables taken in the garden out of about a dozen available on a Friday evening.) As soon as the wine was opened and presented, I realized immediately that the wine was sour. After notifying the waitress, she took my glass inside the restaurant and supposedly checked with the sommelier. When she came back, she said the sommelier indicated that the wine was good but needed to breathe and poured it into a big decanter. I asked a couple next to us if they minded tasting the wine because they said they were also wine connoisseurs. Immediately after smelling it, they too said the wine was sour. After asking to speak to the sommelier, a middle-age lady came out and spoke to the waitress in Spanish in front of our table as if we weren't even there -- never addressing us -- indicating we had to pay for the wine which the waitress translated to us in English, totally unnecessary because my wife speaks Spanish. The couple next to us told the waitress that while they realized that it wasn't her fault, the restaurant was making a big mistake. By then we had ordered the food and I told her just to bring the food and, if they insisted, I would pay for the wine but certainly not drink it. I then ordered a glass of Chianti to drink with my food but it also tasted as if it had turned. Another elderly couple who overheard us, stopped at our table on the way out and indicated they were also served a bad bottle of wine. The man indicated that in his entire life, this had only occurred a couple of times. (Having travelled extensively, I can't ever remember receiving a bad expensive bottle of wine in a restaurant.) Our food, branzino and lobster ravioli, was eatable -- nothing special -- but the vegetables I ordered with the fish was overcooked and soggy. Best part of the meal was a bottle of San Pellegrino. We both ate only about half our portions, I didn't drink the Chianti after one sip and, at that juncture, we just wanted to leave. We asked for the check and surprisingly the waitress then indicated that we would not be charged for the wine. Avoid this restaurant unless you like to be treated rudely, enjoy mediocre food, and like drinking expensive sour wine. After 31 years in the Army, I've had plenty of bad food, bad treatment, and disappointing experiences, but this was clearly one of the worst restaurant experiences in my entire life! read more

The atmosphere is authentic and the food was very good quality. HOWEVER, I ordered the chicken parm and the server asked if I wanted pasta or veggies. I elected the pasta. When the bill came there was a $7 charge for a pasta side. First off what chicken parm in America does not come with pasta or a side. Would they just bring a single piece of chicken on a plate with out the "add on"? Second there was no indication whatsoever it was extra but asked as if given a choice. Then really $7 for a cup of pasta? I just don't understand the total lack of business acumen and wonder how some people stay in business. I've read several reviews after asking who the hell serves chicken parm by itself at a dining establishment and found same reasonable deduction. So it's simply that it's an insane business practice that any patron is going to be turned off by but then they clearly don't care about the feedback. Why not just raise the price $3 and not annoy every person that comes into your establishment knowing chicken parm comes with pasta at every other Italian restaurant in America. read more

We had a wonderful evening for our anniversary. Ambience was lovely and the atmosphere is very quaint and homey. Service was fantastic and the host very welcoming. The veal saltimbocca might be one of the tastiest things I've ever tried and my wife's chicken parmesan was lovely. We showed up late on a quiet evening after searching for a spot for dinner. CasAntica is across the street from our hotel and the valet said they've heard good things about it. So my wife and I decided that we would give it a try. The restaurant is located in an old home and made us feel like we were back in Tuscany. The ambiance is nice and the location is cute. Based on other reviews, I knew there was a chance the service would be disappointing and unfortunately it was. We decided to still give it a shot. To start, I had asked for a sweet red wine and the server gave me a dry red. I swapped it for the sangria which wasn't terrible. We ordered mussels as an appetizer and they were delicious. However, the bread they brought out was cold and when we asked for another basket they said there is a $3 charge. I also ordered the Caesar salad and it's a small portion for the $12 they charge. I added anchovies to it and they skimped on that as well. When we complained to the manager about the bread being cold she brought us another basket. The server was aggressive about it and asked why we didn't tell her it was cold in the first place and just wasn't very nice to us after that. We didn't have water or extra plates when we asked. My boyfriends veal tasted like rubber. Veal is supposed to be tender. We couldn't even cut it with a fork. The table next to us also had a similar issue with their meal and was met with the same resistance and nasty attitude. I think what upset me the most is Camila, the server, didn't even ask if he wanted something else to eat. She just hastily took his plate away. I ordered the lobster ravioli and it was delicious. Though it was more cheese than lobster. My girlfriend ordered the seafood pasta and that was a large portion and also tasty. As we were leaving, the owner or chef came out swearing in another language. I'm pretty sure it was directed at us based on the scowl he gave us. Overall, I wouldn't come back here. To spend a gratuitous amount of money on a meal, I expect better service. This is a high end restaurant, not a McDonald's. There are plenty of other more welcoming locations in this area. I wish i could put 0 stars but 1 will be the best review since most of the food was decent.. To start of my review the management SUCKS!!! The lady that thinks she is in charge thinks she knows about service but have no idea on how to treat customers. My father liked his food very much kept telling us how he liked since the first bite but when he tasted the clams he said he noticed a weird taste like rotten he tried the second one and almost threw up. We try to tell the waiter but out the back came this lady yelling in a rude tone saying that she had bought them fresh in the morning.. well i told him just set them aside. Then they had brought a side of spaghetti that we thought was for one of our dishes, When we got the check I noticed this 1/2 pasta $15 told our waiter that we did not order this 1/2 pasta he said well y'all eat it! Then I refused to pay for that pasta that we even didn't ate. Again the lady that thinks its the boss came out yelling ¡you have to pay for it!! Told them look lady am sorry but if he tells me who order that dish ill pay it double lol he couldn't answer that so i told him you being really unprofessional so she start recording me then she called the cops. The chef came out side yelled at her in Italian and told her that she a horrible manager took the pasta that we didn't order out of the check and the police that have just arrived just shook his head and left. CasAntica is Sarasota: Extremely overpriced, sub-par food, cramped quarters, and pretentious. I'm surprised they don't have a secret code-word to get a reservation. Like, code-word, "I live on Longboat Key". I'll admit it's been a while, but I'll not forget my rubbery, overcooked chicken and a bill of over $300 for my wife, her parents and myself. I'm pretty sure that the health department would have a problem with that. anyway, we refused to accept the meals as they had been in front of other people for a number of minutes. in stead of apologizing they gave us nothing but attitude. A party of 6 of us ate here last night. It's an older converted home which I thought was neat but smelled musty. Ordered the special appetizer, octopus carpaccio (since they were out of mussels). It was shaved which I found interesting but there was barely any octopus, mostly greens. It was EXTREMELY salty to the point of not being edible. We were told "it's the capers". They still charged us $20 for it. We ordered a bottle of house wine which was a low-rate California pinot grigio and was charged $41 for it. We would have ordered the one from Italy for less. When we brought this to the attention of our waiter he could care less. No apologies, nothing. They automatically add a 20% gratuity (even though is was a split bill) so no worries of providing good service. Way overpriced! Food was subpar at best. Great food, service and ambiance on our first visit. Early dinner with another couple before heading for the Shelby Gardens Christmas light show. Friendly staff greeted us on arrival and the inner dining room, filled with interesting art, was cozy and romantic. Had to try the beef carpaccio based on the pix and we were not disappointed. Delicious! Also a caesar salad with added anchovies was adequate, but not close to the best we've ever had (not enough garlic, romaine torn too small and too many tiny croutons). For the main course we split a veal marsala, which was perfect. Tender veal and an exceptional marsala sauce, with fresh cooked broccoli and carrot. Also noted that the restaurant did not charge us the split charge for sharing the entree. Drinks were a presentable house cab and sangria for $9 per glass. While I have had a few decent meals here in the past, six of us went to dinner and sat outside a few days ago. The service was polite but terrible, the food took forever to arrive, and when it did, every one of the dishes was essentially inedible. The fish was not fresh, the vegetables were either overdone or meager, and the pasta was overcooked. When I inquired of the maître d' if they were short staffed--to try and better understand why the restaurant was having such an "off" night--I was met with an unapologetic argument for how everything in the kitchen was "fine". It is bad enough to subjected to an expensive bad meal. But to have the additional insult of management not taking responsibility for when things are wrong is simply unacceptable. I paid the (expensive) bill and told them we were leaving to go to another restaurant. Until they get their act together, I would suggest you consider going to another restaurant as well. Located in downtown Sarasota Casantica is a cozy Italian restaurant with a series of connecting rooms where you can actually hear your table companions. The service and the food was fine. I had a tomato cream soup starter that was excellent. My Veal and mushroom main was fine as well, My wife had the Salmon and she liked it . So why the 2 stars? Well Casantica committed the cardinal sin of an Italian restaurant, letting me finish the meal hungry. If the Veal dish was an appetizer I would say it was stingy, but serving 2 50c coin size veal medallion slivers and a small scoop of pasta as a main course was ridiculous. for $27 you expect something bigger than a tapas plate. The desert was undersized as well and they charge for bread refill?! Wow! Just wow. The slowest service we have had in years. I used to love this place and was excited to be back in town and have dinner in CasAntica. However, huge disappointment with the slowest service ever and the quality of food this time. It took us almost and hour and forty minutes to get our food from the time we've arrived. When the pasta finally came out it was over cooked, bland and greasy. The staff was visibly avoiding the customers. Our water glasses were empty, there was no bread on the table. When I asked for water, the waiter refilled my glass, but not my husband's and just left. To add to all of this- the food was overpriced. Do yourself a favour- go to Olive Garden. Very disappointed. We ate here a couple times a year ago and had great service and food. We were excited to come back. Tuesday December 29 2020 and the place was not crowded at all and it took over 50 minutes to get bread and it was four thin slices. One hour and four minutes to get the appetizer. We had to ask to have our water refilled three times before it was refilled. The main course came at one hour and thirty five minutes. When ordering entrees, we asked to have our pasta with garlic and olive oil. The server said the pasta only comes with marinara sauce or plain. Service was good but the lack of accommodating a typical Italian pasta request, was confusing at best. We went here on New Year's Eve because friends recommended it. They removed the regular menu and hiked the prices. OK not a problem for the holiday. What they served was inedible. She had a filet that was in a balsamic sauce. It was absolutely inedible. She ate two bites and the rest we threw in the trash when we got home. I had the veal chop and it was at best OK. The vegetables were cold when sent out. We didn't get a steak knife until we struggled through our meal for half an hour. Very expensive for a lack luster dinner. So very disappointed with this place. We will never go back. read more
