    Chef's surprise panino
    Luis D.

According to various notable food critics, Borderi makes one of the best sandwiches in the world; I won't be able to say that, all I can say is that it is one of the best I've had in my life. Firstly, I had the opportunity to sample their home made mozzarella and it was fantastic. Then I ordered a panino and shared it with my wife given its size, and it was more than enough. We ordered the chef's surprise as it was difficult to decide, all the combinations were attractive. Ours had mortadella, prosciutto, mozzarella, ricotta, eggplant, red peppers, lettuce and possibly caramelized onions, it costed 9 Euros. After finishing, we walked around the market and brought home sun dried tomatoes, dried fruit and Sicilian almond cookies.

One of a kind sandwich at a fun spot in Siracusa! Cold bread and wine, lively atmosphere, quick, helpful service!

Great sandwich, fun lively spot! We came all the way from Minnesota for this sandwich and it didn't disappoint!

Awesome Find! Stopped here for lunch and it turned out to be dinner also!!! Border was hopping. So very busy. Might add the the five days we passed by, different times during the day it was always the same...BUSY. But we only had to wait a matter of minutes to be seated, not much longer to order. And food arrived shortly afterwards. When the sandwiches arrived they were huge and beautiful. We ordered the Panino #4 and the Panino #8. The #4 had ham, mozzarella, fresh tomatoes and pistachio pesto. Panini #8 consisted of cappacola, artichokes, fresh tomatoes, artichoke cream and provolone. They were great. The ingredients on both were awesome. The couple next to us decided in one sandwich and a salad after seeing our order!!! Highly recommend. Reasonable prices. Great service.

    The money shot.

This was the best sandwich I've ever had. We booked a trip to Siracusa just to try the sandwich and it did not disappoint. The shop is small but exactly as you'd expect. And they have a restroom available! The staff was friendly. They gave us a sample of cheese which melted in your mouth. $8 and I split it with my husband. We were stuffed.

This is "The Sandwich Guy" in Siracusa, Sicily, Italy. Yes, it's super delicious, yes, it's worth a wait, and yes, the main man will look at you and based on his feelings, a sandwich will be created for you. Who knows what formula is going on in his head, but however he comes to his conclusion, the fact is that you will soon be consuming a delicious sandwich made with tons of Italian love/flavor (in the form of cured meat and cheese). It's great how he'll give you little samples of this and that. All this said, if you want to avoid crowds, just try to come at non-peak eating hours. This spot can be the sole reason of making a little trek to Siracusa. Bless the Sandwich Guy!

This was my favorite meal in Sicily. A sandwich and meat platter prepared while you wait. While the process is slow, watching the preparation is truly a work of art. Hand pulled mozzarella, fresh sliced prosciutto, hand sliced salami topped with chopped salad/olives and hot peppers placed on a fresh hero. If you are visiting Siracusa from abroad, they will vacuum seal meats/cheeses for you to take back home.

This place is special. It's famous. The most amazing sandwich you will have ever eaten in your life. You will stand in line. This man making sandwiches, I'm pretty sure he's been doing it all his life. He will give you some samples of very special sandwich ingredients while you wait in line. The cheese, meat and veggies that are put into these sandwiches are delicacies! My favorite part was the mozzarella cheese, truly the most exquisite I've ever tasted.

The best sandwich I have ever eaten! It was about a 45 minute wait, but so worth it and very entertaining. The sandwich artist keeps up a steady conversation with hungry people waiting for lunch and he very generously hands out tastes of their amazing cheeses. First, the crusty bread, then a choice of spicy pepper caponata or mushrooms. Then a HUGE pile of greens, lettuces, mint, herbs tomatoes and a grating of hard cheese. Then a layer of absolutely fresh mozzarella and drizzles of olive oil. Oh yes. Fresh squeeze of lemon. Next you choose your meat. We went for mortadella thinly sliced and wrapped around fresh orange slices and a generous dollop of soft ricotta. We ate this with a bottle of Nero Di Avelo wine and ricotta dolce for dessert. Unbelievably delicious. Everyone working there, and waiting in line, we're happy and welcoming. Fabulous.

Best 5 euros I ever spent. A single sandwich is stuffed with delicious deli items and feeds two people. They make a different sandwich each day. I got a chance to try one from the father and one from the daughter. The father's may have been a little tastier, but he has been at it much longer. I have no doubt she will one day be even better than the father.

The food was excellent and reasonably priced! In particular the homemade mozzarella would be a great addition to any sandwich.

We stopped looked around and decided to stay. So very glad we did. We were seated outside on the side street with a great view and the breeze at the cross street was delightful. We got our menus and just read and read. So many things to choose from. As we always(most of the time) share we decided on the Grilled Fresh Swordfish and the Busiata pasta with a Pistachio Cream sauce. When our food arrived we instantly knew they were both winners. The swordfish was perfectly cooked, tender, tasty with great seasonings....simple with the exception of the pink peppercorns which only enhanced the flavor. A simple, yet tasty side salad accompanied it on the plate to add color. And now for the winner- the Busiata Pasta cover in a beautiful pistachio cream sauce. And they didn't skimp on anything in the dish. It was huge. It was outstanding. We were full but kept going back for that last taste. We did our best but couldn't finish either. Service was great. Food came out within a reasonable amount of time and Everything was Hot! Lately I think food sits for a while at restaurants. Not this little gem. Love sitting outside watching people go by and just enjoying the food and the atmosphere.

What a let down. Dry swordfish. one shrimp, calamari had no flavor and the whole fish was full of bones. I had a wonderful swordfish steak in Naxos at the hotel which would blow the socks of this. Don't waste your money at this place. The prior reviews wouldn't know good seafood unless they lived by the water like I do. Oh this place was pretty empty for a Saturday night. Worst dinner I've had in a long time!
