Listen, we knew going in that this wasn't going to be a mind-blowing experience. We were okay with that mostly because it was late, we were hot, we were hungry, and we didn't feel like waiting for a table at one of the many other restaurants in the area. The guy who greeted us was nice enough, offering either indoor or outdoor seating, but cautioning that the indoor dining room was hotter than the patio. So warned, we chose an outdoor table and were shown to one of the only two-tops open. The patio was cramped. It felt like they were trying to get as many bodies in as possible, and the poor, narrow patio was bursting at the seams. And, our table, which was towards the back of the patio, was on a slant, so I spent the meal worrying we'd lose a utensil, plate or wine glass. I asked the waitress - I think she was new - if they could bring us something to help balance the legs; she brought one coaster - ONE - put it under a leg and then walked off, super pleased with herself. We'll come back to the new waitress soon. But for food, we started with the Buffalo Burrata, with Ham and Pistachios (€10). I got the day's special; a creamy seafood pasta concoction (€10) and my husband ordered the Rigatoni alla Amatriciana (€12). We also ordered a bottle of the Montepulciano d' Abruzzo (€12). The burrata was surprisingly bland, and the pistachios felt strangely rubbery, not providing the crunch we were looking for. The ham was paper thin and barely added anything to the dish. The seafood pasta special was definitely a large portion, but the pasta was overcooked (for Italy's standards) and clumped together under the congealed cream sauce long before I had a chance to get full. My husband wanted to love the Amatriciana - he fell in love with the sauce on our first night in Rome - but said it was "just okay". It lacked the depth of flavor, the toothiness that he was looking for. At least the wine was good. As for the waitress, the entire night she kept bumping into my chair and the chair of the guy at the table of four behind us. And not like a baby bump, she would come by at full steam, not even trying to make herself smaller to fit between the gap between our chairs. For myself, after the second pass, I pushed in as close as I could to the table without cutting off my air supply, but it didn't help. After the fourth or fifth trip, the guy behind me spoke up. She smiled, apologized, but continued on her rampage course the rest of the night. She also kept trying to take our plates and wine glasses, even though both were very much still full, and we were clearly trying to dine in peace. I didn't end up finishing my meal (the congealed sauce and clumpy noodles weren't palatable) but my husband powered through is rigatoni. I guess for the price we paid, it wasn't awful, but it isn't a spot we'd recommend. read more

I was very skeptical coming in to this restaurant because the surrounding places were all packed and this one had a bunch of seating. Our waiter told us they were broke and very understaffed, but they treated us very nicely and made our experience good. The lasagna was actually very tasty and I don't normally like lasagna. The pizza was just okay, but it's Italy, so can we really complain?? Lastly, the tiramisu was not real tiramisu and that was the biggest disappointment of our day. It was so overpriced too which just made us angyyy. And the house wine was the only bad wine I had in Italy...big sad. While walking thru Trastevere, we felt really lucky to come up a small piazza called the Piazza di Renzi. The square was filled with outside seating for the Casetta di Trastevere restaurant. There were locals and tourist alike having a really good time. The vibe was upbeat and hopping. We decided that we were hungry and this looked like a great place to stop and have lunch. We made a great choice. We were seated outside under a canopy next to two lovely ladies from Great Britain. Was looking for a good spot to eat dinner in Rome and came upon this place while walking. The service was great thanks to the lovely Tunisian server we had. He was friendly and knowledgeable, speaking Arabic with us. The patio area is quite crowded however, and you won't be able to move around much. The food was very affordable, especially compared to other restaurants in the area, but it wasn't anything special if i'm being honest. Pizza edges were quite burnt. Went up several streets until we found this place that just said something to us. I had a delicious pollo cacciatore with green olives. Wife had lasagna that she enjoyed. I have never had a bad meal in Italy... up until La Casetta. It wasnt so much the food. The food was passably ok. This one takes the cake when it comes to bad service. We went with a reservation and were sort of waved in. Waitress didnt ask aboit water or drinks. We kind of guided her. We ordered Mussels and Caprese for appetizers. She promptly snatched our menus away. She told us to make do with one menu. Didnt come back to bring refills of water caraffe. For dinner, we ordered Lamb, Spaghetti, and Pizza. The lamb was okay. Spaghetti was tasteless. Pizza was edible. We literally rushed out of the place. The only pro is that the prices are dirt cheap. May be thats why, so is the service. read more

This is a good introduction to Italian food in Trastevere. They have a nice selection of pastas, pizzas, and other dishes. It was good, but didn't absolutely sparkle like a couple of the other meals I had in Rome. I ended up ordered the trippa alla Romana, which is tripe in a tomato sauce. I really like both tripe and tomatoes, so this was a great choice for me, although I wish the tripe stood out a bit more in the dish. Still, a delicious option! read more

La Casetta became our diner in Rome. I went there perhaps twice a week for seven weeks with my niece and nephew, and we were always greeted warmly by "our" waiter Saif who made sure we had the best service. This review should be about Saif. He makes dining at la Casetta a pleasure, and besides, he speaks perfect English and Italian. If Saif were not on the staff, I doubt that we would be such loyal patrons. To talk about the food and the ambiance: the menu is predictable and I stick with the chicken or the pizza. The cicoria is also excellent. My niece and nephew were more adventuresome, and selected other items and enjoyed every one. Try to be seated in the garden -- a new feature in Covid times--or outside so that you can see what's going on in the piazza. Inside is fine as well, especially in inclement weather. La Casetta and Saif should be a part of any visit to Trastevere. read more

Amazing food!! I happened upon this place as I was walking the side streets of Trastevere looking for a place to eat. As I approached, it smelled so good that I stopped in. I had prosciutto and melon to start followed by pizza casetta. Accompanied by a quarter liter of the house red, it was an amazing meal. The perk of it being on a side street is that it wasn't overly expensive. I even came back and ate here again before I left. On my second visit I had the bruschetta, mussels and the pasta casetta. Dessert was tiramisu and a cappuccino. It was just as amazing as the first day I tried it. I will absolutely head back there next time I am in Rome. I have to give this place 4 stars because of the value. It's less costly then most restaurants in this area. So it offers a good value. The food is good or as good as most and the server did a very nice job. We thought we had reservations as we received an email back that said " thank you for your booking" But we did not get anything else. So we thought we had reservations but when we arrived the lady from the restaurant pointed out that this was just an acknowledgment of the request. She was kind of rude about it but she did seat us right away and it all worked out. Highly recommend reservations as we had booked an 8 pm time and there was a line all night long. At 1030 there was still a wait. Overall a good experience and would recommend trying this place out. But please get a confirmation back on a reservation as it created confusion. read more

I wasn't keen on the dish I had pasta cacio e pepe (cheese & pepper) which is a shame because I've had this dish before and it's a classic and quite tasty. The pasta was cooked just fine but it didn't taste of anything. My friends' kids seemed to enjoy their dish which looked just like mine & in typical Italian fashion is you must try all on the table. I didn't think their dish was anything special either. I find it very odd because the service was fine, the location is good, the atmosphere was on point. This is likely the worst restaurant in Rome, hands down. We arrived here with my three kids and a friend. After waiting twenty minutes for someone to come and serve us, the hostess finally told the waitress to start serving the four tables that she had neglected. The prices on the menu were reasonable so we stayed, but we should have left. I reckon that with this many restaurants around here there has to be some pricing pressure to get customers. So, service gets a -1 to start... Onto the food. The kids shared a Fettuccine Bolognese, my friend had a Gricia and I order the house lasagna. For appetizer, we ordered a crostino with prosciutto. The crostino arrived cold, made with dried mozzarella and cheap prosciutto (you can tell by texture and flavor). Then, we received our entrees. The lasagna was doused in sauce, undercooked and with horrible flavors. It was so bad that my friend felt horrible for me and traded his Gricia so that I would not have to be subjected to it. My kids ate through the bolognese but weren't impressed, which peaked out curiosity. There was no way, in our opinion that it could be worse than the lasagna. And yet, they topped their worst. If I could give this restaurant negative stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and avoid it at all costs. I regret not dining and dashing. read more

You can pretty much go anywhere in Rome and have an excellent meal. Having said that, if you are in the main tourist areas, you are likely to end up with a rather ubiquitous menu of pizza and pasta. Casetta di Trastevere is just far enough off the beaten path to where you will not only find a more varied menu at a non-touristy price but also an exquisite meal. This was by far our best meal in Rome. I ordered the Osso Bucco which was undoubtedly the best that I have thus far had. The service was efficient and friendly, although we hit a snag when one in our party added a pasta dish. He meant to order it as a side dish to his Osso Bucco, as would have been common in the U.S. But in good old Italian fashion, this was brought out before and he did not get his main dish (secondi piatti) until he was finished with his pasta. This is a common misconception for us Americans, these two items are never served together in Italy and had I paid attention to what he was ordering I would have mentioned this to him. We had a great, inexpensive meal here after our feet needed a rest from a long day of wandering around Rome. The food was very good. Combine that with some Olive Garden interior design and you've got something worth avoiding. Throw a stone in any direction and you will find much much better. I am so confused why the reviews aren't more positive. This place is absolutely delicious, so unbelievably affordable, and extremely popular! The ambiance of the restaurant is adorable, but the food and wine are just WONDERFUL. For a very reasonable price you can have an authentic italian feast.
