This gelato was delicious and just the treat I needed on a day reaching 90 degrees (and high humidity). Service with a smile too! I loved the cone yoo- it had nuts on it. I would love to visit again, time permitting

Pleasant and bustling Italian bistro just off the canal on the edge of Schwedenplatz. Plenty of outdoor dining. Variety of sandwiches (panini) and salads. Very affordable for a tourist area. .

There are many better ice cream places in Vienna. Now most of them are already closed and I was craving ice cream, so I gave them another try. I was surprised they had ube ice cream, so I took that and poppy seed. It was good but just not good enough for my taste buds.

Got the chicken salad and a gelato afterwards. Chicken salad was good, but also it's hard to mess up fried chicken on a caesar salad. The gelato though, was very good. Maybe I was just hungry, but it was one of the best strawberry gelato I've ever had (although not that I've had a lot of strawberry gelato in my lifetime). Overall, nice place with a nice ambience it pretty good food.

Dropped by for some deserts to take back to our nearby VRBO and everything looked so good we stayed for coffee and more goodies to eat in. They have a beautiful selection of Viennese goodies which all looked fantastic. We got a some for dinner at our apartment. We got apple strudel, apple tart, and sacher torte among others. The restaurant/coffee shop was very nice with a bright, modern ambience. Service was friendly and efficient. Our waiter spoke excellent English. I was with my daughter and my grandson. I had the raspberry cream tart shown in my picture and an espresso, my daughter had a latte and chocolate croissant and my grandson had a hot chocolate and chocolate croissant. Everything was excellent. They are dog friendly and we sat by an English Cocker Spaniel who made me miss our English Cocker Sophie who had to stay in the States. We will definitely be back

Established in 1984, the establishment prides itself on "passion de Italian". This is a beautiful eatery. Some of the chairs were cushioned like mini sofas. Many locals sitting and sipping coffee and relaxing. This is a great place to eat and people watch: the parade of patrons sashaying through the glass door, is fun to watch. I was really craving a turkey burger but no luck. I ordered a chicken burger with fries and a cappuccino. The waiter brought me my coffee literally on a mini silver platter. The froth was heavenly although the coffee part could have been hotter. My entree came and was served by a different waiter, it didn't look like what I ordered: chicken fingers with salad. My main waiter apologized and laughed " Oh no that is not a chicken burger!". As I waited, I watched the patrons waltzing in. One came with a dog. Let me start off apologizing first to all dog lovers as I love them. However, allowing patrons to eat inside with a dog is not something that is suitable. I can understand if it was summer and the patron is seated outside. This patrons dog was sneezing and sad to say, choking, as she stared at the gelato display. Patrons who order gelato point at the display as to what flavor they want. There are varieties of cones to choose from as well. Also, their cakes look like heaven on a plate. Their frozen yogurt and ice creams literally sit in an oversized martini glass. It is a sight to see. The waiters have their own mini Ipad cash registers and tally your bill in front of you. The bathroom is also quite lovely as is the decor of the entire establishment. Service is fine but a tad stuffy. 4*: -1* sorry the dog rule was a bit too much

For my new yelp friend Alex, in my favorite city in Europe on a warm day you have many choices to sit outside to enjoy a meal or in this case gelato. Sitting near the Franz-Joseph-Kai overlooking the canal gives ample time to people watch and enjoy your time with your guests.

This place had great food and amazing dessert. A must try. We didn't have a long wait. Totally worth it for lunch. A very busy place for a good reason. I loved the smoked salmon, not fishy at all. Any of the gelato is a good idea.

Great Viennese cuisine with attentive staff and short wait times. The coffee and associates desserts are lovely, bringing a truly Italian X Viennese feel to your experience here. Particularly beautiful in the warmer months.

Even though this is very popular with tourists I still like to come here because I like the desserts. Whenever I have friends visiting I bring them here because the location is great (Schwedenplatz) and who doesn't love dessert?! Plus they have a big choice of cakes, including the traditional Strudel, Sache Torter, Mozart Kuchen etc and the most amazing ice cream sundaes. I have been here many times and I am little annoyed at the bad service I tend to get. I know there is a stereotype in Vienna that all waiters and waitresses are mean, unfriendly and generally can't give a rat's ass but I have never found that. Honestly. (Maybe it's because I lived in Paris for a year, the service tends to suck there a lot more than here!) But I am always annoyed at having to wait for a waiter or them forgetting about our order or something like that. Anyway, the food tastes good so I still go regardless of the service. The place is open really late and is always busy. It has a big smoking room in the back with non-smoking in the front. They also have a nice outdoor space in the summer. They serve normal food as well as desserts but I have yet to try it...the desserts are always too tempting. I would give the desserts 5 stars but the service 1 or 2 so that unfortunately drops it to a 3...

We came here twice in one day... and I'm still giving it two stars. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I tried Kaiserscharn for the first time and it was alright. It's basically like pancakes but scrambled with cinnamon and powdered sugar. They were a little dry. Bf ordered ham and eggs and that was good, but it's kind of hard to mess those up. The waitress didn't seem to be too happy with us, but they were also quite busy. The next time we came for dessert in the afternoon, and our waitress really wasn't friendly. We ordered 3 different desserts that could easily be taken from the display case and placed on a plate within 2 minutes. The table with 100 children was served before us even though they sat down after us. When we asked the waitress what was taking so long she responded with an annoyed look. Clearly she had forgotten, but instead of apologizing it was somehow our fault. Once we got the desserts I didn't even care for them. ME!? Not finish dessert?! How is this possible??? I guess they must really not have been good. I'll admit the decor is really awesome. It's very open with a lot of seating which is good, because the place is usually packed. However, I honestly wouldn't try any of their desserts, even though they have A LOT of awesome looking cakes. Maybe I'd come again for their gelato. Don't be surprised if you have to wait a while though.

    Hazelnuss + Pistachio
    Alexandra K.

A typical ice cream parlor, you can either sit down and enjoy large sundaes or head up to the counter and grab a few scoops to go. -Pistachio: it has a bit of an outer-shell pistachio taste, rather than the nut itself. Nicely salty and sweet. -Hazelnuss (Hazelnut): oh delicious! I love the creaminess and texture of the ice cream as it takes a long time to melt. It's like Nutella in ice cream form. FINAL VERDICT: This gelateria is A-OK.

    Rory R.

For an ice cream parlour in this location and for these prices the best I can say is its A-OK! Not the best or worst you'll ever find but a decent ice cream at a decent price. Don't expect to be wowed by the selection of flavours on offer, they are all pretty standard and the service is not too bad too. If you need an ice cream and you are near then by all means but if you want something a little bit special then maybe look elsewhere.

We waited in the takeout line for about 15 minutes and ate the best Kaiserschmarrn ever! Something I didn't even know existed until visiting Vienna. Highly recommend checking out this spot!

I have always loved Demel from my previous…read morevisits, and I know it is a world-renowned and historic establishment, which is why this experience was especially disappointing. I ordered my usual Kaiserschmarrn and a drink. I had noticed that the table next to me had a drink that looked good, so when the waitress took my order, I specifically told her that I wanted the same drink the table next to me was having. When my order arrived, it was brought by a different waitress. The drink looked completely different from what I had pointed to, so I asked her what it was. She told me it was a double espresso. I explained that I had not ordered a double espresso and again pointed to the drink at the table next to me, which was clearly a hot chocolate. The waitress then called over the waitress who had originally taken my order. Instead of simply acknowledging that there had been a misunderstanding, she insisted, "That's what you ordered." When I explained again that it wasn't, she told me, "It's the same thing." A **double espresso and a hot chocolate are obviously not the same thing.** What bothered me even more than the incorrect order was the way both waitresses spoke to me. Their attitudes and tone were extremely rude, dismissive, and demeaning--as though I was stupid for pointing out the obvious mistake. The interaction became uncomfortable enough that people sitting at other tables were looking over at us. To make matters worse, my Kaiserschmarrn was **cold**. It tasted as though it had already been sitting out for some time before it was brought to my table. I understand that mistakes happen. Had they simply apologized for the misunderstanding and corrected the drink, I would not have had an issue. Instead, I was argued with and spoken down to over something that could have been resolved in seconds. This was genuinely one of the worst customer-service experiences I have ever had at a restaurant, and certainly not what I expected from an establishment with Demel's reputation. After several previous visits that I enjoyed, it is extremely disappointing to say that I will not return and will no longer recommend Demel to my friends.

Largely because the food being offered isn't vegan friendly.
