    Nearly raw steak.

Given how crowded this restaurant was and the fact that people kept trying to get a table, reviews likely won't matter. They're in a convenient spot in a city swarming with tourists, but they don't deserve your money. We were seated right away but after about 10 minutes of no one acknowledging us, I got up to leave. It was then someone dashed over and asked us what we wanted to drink. We were hungry so I sat back down. The drinks were the only positive of the meal, a mojito and wine. I had salmon with rice and my husband ordered the tango plato with a baked potato. My salmon was over cooked, rice looked like something out of a box and my husband's steaks were partly undercooked with a side of hair on his plate. When someone finally asked us how our meal was (after I had to wave someone down to get a second glass of wine), my husband pointed out how undercooked the steak was and also pointed out the hair. We asked someone else for the check after trying to make it obvious we were finished and they cleared the table. I paid the check at the bar and the gentleman helping me asked if I wanted to add a tip. Uh, no. So we're about leave and the guy who'd seen my husband's nearly moo'ing steak walks up with two new steaks. Good grief. That's how they handled hair on the plate and under cooked steak - they brought two more under cooked steaks (without mentioning this was their plan); we'd already paid full price for a bad meal and bad service in a city where tipping isn't customary yet asked if we wanted to leave one after clearly not having a good meal. This place blows. They stay in business because of tourists which is a shame. Avoid; they don't deserve 4 stars.

Went here based off the high Yelp reviews, worst meal I had in Amsterdam. Ordered the Gran Parillida(huge meat dish for two) and requested the meat medium rare. When the meat came it was medium well-well, ribs and steak were extremely tough, shrimp was awful, no seasoning on anything, meal was a disgrace. I don't know how the place even got two stars, worst dinner experience in a long time and it cost around 60 euros. We ended up leaving half the meat and got of there ASAP, just awful. Do not make the mistake I did, try another steak place, you will regret this one big time.

Enjoyed several tapas; empanadas, ribs, ham croquettes, chorizo, Carpaccio, fries and all were delicious. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Caipirinha and sangria very delicious.

Fast and good service. Great atmosphere and delicious food. Drink cortado after your meal. I strongly advice this restaurant.

Discovered Castillo two years ago on my own and last year went with my partner for our anniversary. In a week we'll be there again to celebrate his birthday!! Last year we ordered the Gran Parrillada for 2. So.Much.Food!! It was delicious. The chimichurri is to die for. After dinner we sat in the back on the sofas for some drinks. I adore the quaint atmosphere. I will come here every time I'm in Amsterdam.

This is one of the best steakhouses I've been to in Europe. It is a rustic meat paradise serving the most exciting and juicy tapas, deserts and steaks in the Amsterdam center. The brick and wood theme acts in symphony with the taste of the juicy steaks served with such care Raymond Reddington himself would have only positive to say here. The service is swift for the quality at which the dishes are prepared (20 min. For most expensive and high quality steak) and the waiters add a good mood to the already cheerful ( and ambient, salsa music filled) atmosphere. The deserts are traditional Argentinian and Spanish plates of goodness and the drinks are exotic to the countries in which they are produced. Cozy overall and is a good place to unwind.

    Beautiful warm interior.

Service is friendly but the food was underwhelming. Prawns were over cooked and fried tapas had way too much breading. The steak was decent.

Great ambiance, incredible views, and a solid overall experience. Service in Europe is . . . different. Not bad, just not what I'm used to, so I try not to let that impact things too much. One thing I do want to call out: my daughter's friend has a severe allergy to seafood, nuts, and kiwi, and the staff was incredibly attentive and accommodating. That wasn't our experience everywhere in Europe, so it definitely stood out and was appreciated. We went simple with two steaks: the "Mrs. Porter" and a bone-in ribeye. Mrs. Porter needed a little more seasoning, but the ribeye was . Sides? Honestly don't even remember them . . . which probably says enough. The highlight might've been the "Mr. Fox" dessert. They bring out this chocolate fox head, pour liquid nitrogen into it, and crack it open tableside. Super cool presentation. Dessert itself was good, not amazing . . . but I'd order it again just for the show. End of the day: great ambiance, great views, good food, and a fun experience. I'll definitely be back.

The drink prices on the other hand are outrageous. 36 euro for the smallest martini I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, it tasted great, but still. It's a nice little place, you can sit in the front of the restaurant where the chefs are cooking or the back dining room, away from the outer doors. We opted for the front, it was neat to watch them cut and cook our meat. We went with the Wagyu carpaccio, scallops, and tuna tartare as the appetizers. These were all absolutely incredible. So fresh tasting, made to perfection. The right amount of flavor. Next we ordered the tomahawk. We didn't realize until after we were eating that it was bison. It was so fantastic, I'm actually glad we didn't know because neither myself or husband had ever tried it before so it gave us the chance to try something new that we may not have ordered. It was cooked perfectly for us. The right amount of pink. It was so tender to chew and in my opinion the right about of fat on the cut. The lobster was great, it had the right amount of butter than a slight hint of lemon, not overpowering. The breads were good but the butters stood out, absolutely heavenly. So creamy and flavorful. I am going to dream about this when we leave. The broccoli/cauliflower and mushrooms were just ok to us, nothing gave us a wow on them. Overall the meal was fantastic. My husband said it was the best meal in his life. Our server was very kind and attentive. The chef and owner were also exceptional. Everyone made us feel very welcomed and taken care of. We never felt like we were being overlooked or ignored. We would recommend this place if you're looking for a great meal and service and not a bad price tag. For the quality of food, the price is on par with that and worth it all.

Upon arrival, the host asked if we had made a reservation. Not knowing this was required, we were initially pleased that he agreed to accommodate our party of three. Then, things changed once we were seated. As we were looking over the menu to decide what to eat, I started coughing due to a "throat tickle." When I took a sip of water from the bottle I had been carrying with me, a different employee told me that I couldn't drink from my water bottle in the restaurant. When I explained why, he continued to make his point. A waitress came to take our food order, but seemed unhappy with our choices. Noticing this, when she returned to take our beverage order, we decided on only water instead of the wine we had originally planned to order. Throughout the rest of our time at Castell, my friend noticed that this waitress repeatedly gave me looks of disapproval. The food was the only good part of our experience, and I would give it alone 5 stars. There is a traditional fire grill on which the meats are prepared. The filet mignon and lamb chops were perfectly seasoned and delicious! Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was uncomfortable and unpleasant. Our waitress gave me an annoyed look when I requested the check. My friend and I split the payment. As she was paying, the waitress mentioned the "skip the tip" option, so my friend obliged her. I went ahead and paid a tip as I felt her problem was more about her than me. Despite the authenticity and quality of the menu selections, I cannot recommend Castell based on how we were treated.
