Terrible food. We stopped for tapas, good thing we only ordered 2 things. We had the octopus (pulpo) which was disgusting, tasted like it had been dumped out of a can and microwaved. The server admitted it was frozen out of a bag, just reheated. Gross. He recommended the calamari "next time". We also had the Iberian ham, which came out looking like someone had hacked it with a steak knife. Tasted fine, but wtf, I doubt it was the real product. Service was fine, ambiance is cute, but the place is Spanish in name only, don't be fooled. There won't be a next time. Place is a tourist trap. Good for a quick drink and then move on. read more

Given how crowded this restaurant was and the fact that people kept trying to get a table, reviews likely won't matter. They're in a convenient spot in a city swarming with tourists, but they don't deserve your money. We were seated right away but after about 10 minutes of no one acknowledging us, I got up to leave. It was then someone dashed over and asked us what we wanted to drink. We were hungry so I sat back down. The drinks were the only positive of the meal, a mojito and wine. I had salmon with rice and my husband ordered the tango plato with a baked potato. My salmon was over cooked, rice looked like something out of a box and my husband's steaks were partly undercooked with a side of hair on his plate. When someone finally asked us how our meal was (after I had to wave someone down to get a second glass of wine), my husband pointed out how undercooked the steak was and also pointed out the hair. We asked someone else for the check after trying to make it obvious we were finished and they cleared the table. I paid the check at the bar and the gentleman helping me asked if I wanted to add a tip. Uh, no. So we're about leave and the guy who'd seen my husband's nearly moo'ing steak walks up with two new steaks. Good grief. That's how they handled hair on the plate and under cooked steak - they brought two more under cooked steaks (without mentioning this was their plan); we'd already paid full price for a bad meal and bad service in a city where tipping isn't customary yet asked if we wanted to leave one after clearly not having a good meal. Small Tapas and steak restaurant near Singel and Rembrandplein. Nice atmosphere, good food and service. We had the Tapas which were delicious. Larger portions than expected. Definitely could be shared with 4 people. We had the mushrooms in garlic butter, shrimps in garlic butter, fried calamari, Spanish bread with tomato and aioli, and chorizo. Mushrooms and shrimp were fabulous and the others were very good. Too much food for the two of us as we also had a salad and baked potato. However, price was extremely reasonable- 53 euros including beer and bottled water. They also have a broad selection of steak dishes, which we'll try when we return to Amsterdam. Had the worst food in a while, so definitely recommend avoiding this place. We were told it's good and went in for dinner. We ordered several things, including a steak cooked medium. The server forgot some of the items we ordered. The ones she brought had nothing to do with how Spanish tapas taste. The croquettes were basically hollow oily balls. None of the dishes had any seasoning. The steak was extremely rare, completely cold on the inside. When we let them know, they took it to get it more cooked and brought it back cut lengthwise to make it thinner and cook it faster. I've never seen such a thing. It was super chewy and gross so we ended up leaving. They didn't apologize or take anything off of our bill. Seriously awful place. read more

Went here based off the high Yelp reviews, worst meal I had in Amsterdam. Ordered the Gran Parillida(huge meat dish for two) and requested the meat medium rare. When the meat came it was medium well-well, ribs and steak were extremely tough, shrimp was awful, no seasoning on anything, meal was a disgrace. I don't know how the place even got two stars, worst dinner experience in a long time and it cost around 60 euros. We ended up leaving half the meat and got of there ASAP, just awful. Surprised at some of the yelp reviews. I thought this place was great for Tapas/small plates. The food was delicious and the service was fast and attentive. We visited midweek without a reservation and were able to get seated right away. We sat inside at a table, although there were seats available outside. The decor and atmosphere are interesting and fun. Prices are in line with what I would expect for Tapas. Service was very quick and friendly. We settled on 5 tapas between 2 people. Portions were pretty big for tapas. I think my favorite was the Patatas Bravas (home-fry type potatoes with a spicy tomato-y sauce). Dátiles con Bacon (dates wrapped in bacon) were probably my second favorite but everything I had here was delicious and I would recommend Castillo. read more

What a quaint restaurant with delicious food! My husband ordered the all you can eat ribs. It was quite sumptuous, plentiful, and flavorful. This was his third visit and he is a true rib master...he knows ribs! Definitely, two thumbs way up!!! I'm a vegetarian and he wondered if I could find something to enjoy. I certainly did!!! I tried the olive dish, Spanish omelette, mushrooms, and Spanish cheese! Everything was so good! Truly enjoyable! Service was impeccable and friendly! I feel like I should mention that I didn't try the steak that everyone seems to like in the other reviews. But I asked the waitress for suggestions on the menu and she didn't mention the steak so I'm sticking with my rating. Based on the 7 tapas we ordered, the service and ambiance I would not go back. There was not a single dish (including the few the waitress suggested) that I really liked. All were edible. Prices were reasonable. Service was ... fine. Because the day had been warmer the inside of the restaurant was stuffy and sitting outside was loud as tons of guys stood around our table smoking cigarettes. If you're considering this restaurant I suggest you go on a day that is cooler and order something mentioned in one of the other reviews. read more

My husband and I came here for our last meal in Amsterdam. We choose the chicken entree with the sides it came with and an order of steak. The chicken was delicious as well as the rice they give for the side! The rice had a lot of flavor and the chicken was nice and juicy, not dry at all. Sausage was good, and the fries were very good. My son had the ribeye a la carte and it was more tender but again very under seasoned, which is rare for Argentinian grills. The best kept secret in Amsterdam. Tapas as good as the best in Spain... the cuttlefish is amazing... the iberico ham is beyond words. My favorite restaurant in The Netherlands. I'll start with "I'm from Portland." :) So, I'm consistently underwhelmed when traveling to find that I have to pay through the nose to get good quality fare. I found this place on Yelp on a recent trip and was impressed enough to go back 2 nights in a row and take friends on the second visit. The staff was the friendliest I've encountered in recent trips abroad and they spoke English well. They accommodated one in our group with difficult dietary restrictions without batting an eye. My wife and I split the Trio Castillo plate with 200 g portions of sirloin, filet and rump steak + salads and fries and had more than enough. With the addition of a carafe of house vino, we dropped about $50. The second appearance the second night culminated with the owner dropping by with a cool digestif called Beirão for a complimentary after dinner quaff. Nice touch! read more

Overly Priced and Service was BAD! We were in search for a special Argentinian Dinner to celebrate my nephew's 21st bday. Since it was late and we were searching for a place close by, we decided on this restaurant. We were there around 8:30ish and the place closed at midnight. We were seated immediately but the service was horrible. The gentleman who seated us and took our order was not friendly and the entire time we felt like we were bothering him. We were a party of 7, but our requests were standard. I ordered my meat medium and it came out medium rare so I had to send my meat back. When it was returned it was still quite red. This was not a good experience for us and the meat was average. The side dishes were great though. We had the fried Patatas Brivas, which was crispy and the sauce was spicy and delicious. The Octopus was also flavorful seasoned with garlic and tossed with olive oil. The shrimp side dish was also quite tasty. Their drinks were good(I had the Caipirinha) but overly priced and contained more ice than the alcohol drink. Of all the places I ate in Amsterdam, this was the bottom! read more

Amazing food and amazing service! Everything we ordered was DELICIOUS!!! Manchego cheese, octopus appetizer, bread with tomato and aioli, prawns and the trio castillo of filet, rump and sirloin steaks and the GARLIC AIOLI was to die for!!! Bring on the desert- cheesecake and vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce ended the meal perfectly! Highly recommend this restaurant!
