This restaurant came to us as a recommendation from the concierge from our hotel and we are so glad we listened. It's a nice little place, you can sit in the front of the restaurant where the chefs are cooking or the back dining room, away from the outer doors. We opted for the front, it was neat to watch them cut and cook our meat. We went with the Wagyu carpaccio, scallops, and tuna tartare as the appetizers. These were all absolutely incredible. So fresh tasting, made to perfection. The right amount of flavor. Next we ordered the tomahawk. We didn't realize until after we were eating that it was bison. It was so fantastic, I'm actually glad we didn't know because neither myself or husband had ever tried it before so it gave us the chance to try something new that we may not have ordered. It was cooked perfectly for us. The right amount of pink. It was so tender to chew and in my opinion the right about of fat on the cut. The lobster was great, it had the right amount of butter than a slight hint of lemon, not overpowering. The breads were good but the butters stood out, absolutely heavenly. So creamy and flavorful. I am going to dream about this when we leave. The broccoli/cauliflower and mushrooms were just ok to us, nothing gave us a wow on them. Overall the meal was fantastic. My husband said it was the best meal in his life. Our server was very kind and attentive. The chef and owner were also exceptional. Everyone made us feel very welcomed and taken care of. We never felt like we were being overlooked or ignored. We would recommend this place if you're looking for a great meal and service and not a bad price tag. Beautiful steakhouse/restaurant in the heart of Amsterdam. We had a pasta dish, prawns and lobster bisque soup. The food was fresh and great quality but lacked seasoning. While the ambiance and location were both really nice, unfortunately, the service and part of the meal fell short. We visited last night based on a recommendation and were initially excited by the menu, especially the selection of steaks. My colleague and I started with the lobster bisque, which was actually quite good. However, the entrees that followed didn't live up to expectations. I ordered the Canadian ribeye with crab, and my colleague ordered the Scottish filet. I was surprised (and disappointed) to see that the crab came on the side rather than served on top as I had expected. Unfortunately, it wasn't great -- bland and underwhelming. Worse, the ribeye itself was extremely tough, and nearly every bite was a struggle to chew. My colleague had a similar experience with his filet, which was also difficult to eat. For the premium price point, we expected far better quality. Our server wasn't very attentive throughout the evening and seemed to struggle to understand us. When she finally returned to the table, she didn't ask about the untouched steak or the pile of chewed, uneaten pieces -- only whether I enjoyed the crab cakes. I explained that I was expecting crab meat on top of the steak, not a side of it. Her reaction felt defensive, though she eventually admitted she should have explained the dish better. Still, no effort was made to offer a discount or make things right. At that point, given her lack of engagement and unwillingness to take feedback seriously, it didn't feel worth bringing up the steak. We ultimately flagged down a different server -- who was far more present -- just so we could close out and leave. It's a shame, because the setting was lovely, and the meal started strong. But for the price and the level of service we received, it left a disappointing impression overall. read more

The food here is delicious and has something for everyone, steak options, seafood dishes and even vegetarian ones! It was recommended to us by our hotel concierge as a great place to eat where a reservation wasn't needed. The service was quick and helpful especially since the steak menu was a little confusing. We did order our steaks originally medium rare but they came out rare but the kitchen had no problem cooking the steaks a bit more. It was the end of the night and they were about an hour away from closing when we walked in but everyone was kind and didn't rush us at all. The overall vibe of the restaurant had a great relaxed feel that was perfect for a date night after a long day of traveling. read more

Last minute sort of add on to the trip. 2 cocktails, a Scottish Black Gold steak and a Blue Fin Tuna steak each with a side, scallops appetizer. The appetizer was ok. The kiwi underneath not quite being to my palate. But the steak was incredibly tender, and the truffle butter sauce accompanied very rich in flavor. I have always been overwhelmed by all the Argentinian steak houses in Amsterdam. Most have been OK. Finally tried TDQ, which was outstanding! They had a decent selection of red wines, by the glass. I didn't order apps, although the list looked good (a little pricey, but appears with it). I had a small Argentinian filet that was done perfectly with just the right amount of flavors without overpowering. They had a very nice selection of sides, of which I had the mushrooms and shallots. Service was excellent as was the ambience. Definitely gets my recommendation! read more

What I like about TDQ is they feature steak from all over the world. Not that I would recognize a Canadian cow vs. an Argentine or New Zealand cow, but if they say it's from there, then I can't argue. I like my steak a bit charred on the outside and cooked pink inside. My first day here I ordered a rare steak, but the outside wasn't quite charred to my liking. On my second day, they got it right. You can't go wrong with the Canadian rib eye, just skip the sides and get a nice appetizer. Make sure you save room for the Macallan cheesecake! read more

Came here based upon the recommendation of the hotel concierge. 20 minute walk later and into the middle of the red light district, here we were promptly for our reservations- better have them or you're not getting in. Drinks- Chablis from France for me, Scottish whiskey for the hubby. Dinner: I couldn't decide what area of the world to get a piece of meat, so I chose a skewer of filet minion from around the world. Canada, Scotland, New Zealand and Argentinian beef were the selections. Have to say, the New Zealand was the best, closely followed by the Canadian. Hubby picked a ribeye from Argentina and was delighted. We each had a salad, I'm not a fan of green tomatoes (unless southern fried), but my salad was delicious. Our hotel concierge, Ahmed Noureldin at the Rennaissance Amsterdam Hotel, recommended it & he was so right! We visited in mid October, in the evening, so sat inside because it was cold & rainy outside. It's a small place but, it pays off in that, A) the service is great, B) the food excellent & C) if you're not shy, you can meet people from around the world. Worst steakhouse ever!!!! We arrived a bit early (the opening time that is stated on their own webpage is false!) so we kindly asked if we can sit down and drink something already. The owner was polite and said of course, the waiters complained in Dutch (great first Impression!). I had the surf and turf with wild spinach and it was disgusting! The beef from australia tasted like a super old cow and the lobster tail was over cooked, served with a pesto that wasnt self-made. This dish costs 50€ and the quality was really bad and I didnt finish. The service at McDonalds is definately better than here - they have been extremely impolite and almost threw the dishes on the table at a so called "high class restaurant" according to the prices. I have been to this wonderful steakhouse in Amsterdam 4 times already. Steak quality is unbelievable. I would say it ranks among the best steakhouses I've visited, and I've been to many, all over the world. Toro Dorado (now called TDQ) features top-rated prime cuts from all over the world including Canada, Scotland, New Zealand, Argentina, and of course Japan. Each type of steak comes in 2 or 3 different sizes (standard sizes are 180 gram, 250 gram, 350 gram and 500 gram) and is priced according to type and weight. Soups, salads, side dishes, steak toppings, sauces, and desserts all need to be ordered separately. They also offer a limited selection of seafood. And they have a full bar. The wine list is not large but it does offer a very wide price range from 29 Euros to 3749 Euros (yes, this is not a typo!). A steak without a side dish can run you anywhere between 33.50 Euros for 250 grams of New Zealand Prime Steer to a whopping 245 Euros for 250 grams of the Royal Wagyu from Japan!!! Just about a Euro per gram, or 31 US Dollars per ounce! So yeah, this place is expensive :). My favorite steaks are the 350 gram Canadian Bison and the Scottish Black Gold. Appetizers, side dishes, sauces, and desserts are all excellent. TDQ can get quite busy and reservations are highly recommended. You could still end up waiting a while even with reservations as they seem to get a lot of large parties that tend to over-stay. The restaurant is located in the center of the town, and there is no dedicated parking to the best of my knowledge. This is Amsterdam, so street parking can be very hard to come by. It would be best to take a taxi or Uber. Service is very thorough, courteous, and to the point, fairly typical of high end steakhouses. All in all a great dining experience as long as you come prepared to splurge and treat yourself to one of the best there is! read more

First time in Amsterdam and after tasting a few things that are native to Amsterdam, we decided to end our trip with a big juicy steak dinner. WE found this restaurant from a coupon book that was handed down to us from the Lindbergh tours office. Toro Dorado had some great reviews and were grateful to come here. We made a reservation online and got a reply for confirmation. We took a taxi and it was about a 20 minute ride from the Van Gogh museum. The interior is modern and has a casual atmosphere. There is a salad buffet for 9 euros and I consumed a bit more than needed. There were cherry tomatoes, olives, artichoke hearts, marinated mushrooms, bell pepper, feta cheese, greens, etc. The steak was high grade quality and grilled Argentina style. There are other steaks to choose from but our favorite was always the ribeye. The steak was very tasty, juicy and tender (med rare). I asked for the truffle sauce and it was so aromatic and delicious that I wanted to chug it down like a shot. Sides came as a separate order. Since we had a salad buffet, I ate those as sides. It was just as good. My only advise is to eat the steak (as with any steak) while it is warm. When the steak gets cold, the fat or grease becomes dense that you kinda lose interest eating the rest of it. Had creme brûlée for dessert. It was good (just like every other one I had before). Service was okay. The waiters were able to talk to us in English. Generally speaking, people in Amsterdam can speak good English, even taxi drivers. read more

Amazing steaks my second favorite steakhouse in the world. A must when visiting Amsterdam

This was right across the street from the hotel, so we decided to walk in after a long day. We had no idea what surprise was awaiting us once we were seated. Before a ginormous, fabulous, perfectly broiled Scottish ribeye we tried the tuna tartar, which was not made with the traditional Dutch style tartar, but with Asian spice combination. It was different, but very well prepared. I would highly recommend it. Back to the steak. The waiter presented different cuts from different countries. The Scottish grass-fed steak looked interesting so we ordered it. The meat was cooked to perfection, and tasted fantastic. We do not have steaks like this available to us in the US. Toro Dorado is a reason to come back to the center of town, even if business requires me to be in another part of town! Highly recommend it. read more

I am cutting back on red meat, so when I get a steak I want it to be really good: this definitely met the requirement! They were out if the Scottish steak, so I got the Canadian. Incredibly tender. The first glass is on the house -- at least it was for me every time I visited -- and really, the wine wasn't terribly priced. As for steak, their Scottish cuts are surprisingly ON POINT. I like my meat medium rare, and this was true to the temperature and very tender. Enjoy with a glass of cab. The sides are a bit scant. Asparagus was about 5 spears on a large plate. Hot tip to the restaurant: if you're serving next-to-no food, serve it on a tiny plate. That's just like giving someone with really small hands a gold pencil so their hands look bigger. C'mon. The French fries were more ample, but the spinach again was lacking. Set your expectations accordingly: good wine, great steak, decent experience; pointless side dishes. read more

The atmosphere is awesome, finally a quality steakhouse without the formal BS and unnecessary stuffiness. We both got a combo of cuts - wagyu, Scottish, Canadian. Steaks were good but honestly and sadly, nothing special. The sides were basic and also nothing noteworthy. The service was crap, absolute crap, but the lovely chef coming coming out of the kitchen trying to make up for it. The whole thing cost more than $250 and we didn't even drink alcohol. I was very happy to see that this place is not overpriced like some reviewers said. Sure you can blow $500 on a huge Waygu steak but ordinary Scottish aged fillet was competitively priced and better than others I've choked down in this area. They are also obviously not interested at all to learn how they could actually improve the quality of their side dishes or indeed their abysmal service (otherwise they would have spent their time writing their message more constructively to ask what was actually wrong about the side dishes or the service), which explains perfectly why the service was so bad - they are so arrogant and full of themselves that they simply do not care. We dined at Toro Dorado at the recommendation of the concierge at the Renaissance Hotel while on holiday in Amsterdam and had a wonderful experience. The waitress was responsive and polite. We had the Scottish fillet and the Argentine Romp steak prepared medium well which were served just right, light pink at the center. The Scottish fillet was a better choice as it was more tender than the Argentine Romp. We also ordered the garlic mushroom and mashed sweet potato sides which were delicious. This was accompanied by a bottle of French Rose wine which proved to be a good choice. read more

We had reservations came in & were seated right away once seated we started with some drinks with your meal u get one free, I had a Heineken beer friends had coke, can't go wrong with a beer this was good my friends had their Coke with some Jack good as well. Appetizers we tried the Shrimp on toast & the Crab cakes, very good crab cakes good shrimp as well. Main dishes I tried the Argentinean steak good piece of meat nice & juicy I had it with the buttered rice good rice. Friends had the Bison steak very good with a baked potato good as well. Next was the Scottish steak also good with some fries, good fries. & finally the Salmon this was good as well. We managed to have some room left for desert tried the Creme brûlée very good they put the finishing touches at your table by caramelizing it in front of u. After our meal we were treated to free shots by the owner or manager? Don't recall which it was but it was a cool gestures, good limoncello shots. It is the probably the best steak in town. Provides excellent choices of meats and cuts with different sides. However, one of their staff was extremely rude to us. He demonstrated lack of flexibility and not showing any respect to us as customers when he yelled at us when we asked for correcting our bill. I will think twice before going there again. read more
