Cool ambiance and friendly staff. It does take a while to receive your food - we waited almost an hour for our steaks long after the apps came out. We got the hummus and crispbread as an appetizer. Good hummus and crispy flatbread, lots of flavor with all the different toppings sprinkled on top. Warning - the peppers have a kick!!! I got the churrasco de chorizo - sirloin marinated in garlic, parsley, and olive oil. I requested rare and a sauce, but the server recommended me not to get a sauce since the steak comes flavored. The steak I got was closer to medium and while there was some flavor, it was seriously lacking salt. I wanted to request a sauce, but we had waited so long for the food that I didn't want to prolong our stay. I got a side of bimi which was good, but also a little lacking. Nothing exceptional - probably wouldn't come back.
I have to preface that I was pretty inebriated when dining here since we stumbled here after having unlimited wine on a boat canal ride. After seeing so many Argentina steak place in Amsterdam, we found CAU and was seated right away. I ordered the Dish of the House (€33.75), which included two cuts of steak and a chorizo sausage while the boyfriend got the T-Bone Steak (€35.50). Both dishes came with a salad and side, which we opted for rice and fries. All I can remember is that I finished all my meat. The sides were just okay, but it was a good meal overall. If you're looking for meat, this did not disappoint.
I was excited to come across CAU while in Amsterdam, as far as I'm aware this is the final restaurant left operating under the CAU brand, as they entered administration in the UK, which resulted in the closure of all their stores back home. A short walk away from Dam Square and the Royal Palace, CAU is a great spot to grab some dinner after exploring the fantastic city of Amsterdam, the restaurant inside is quite small, so it lacks intimacy, and you may need to reserve a table to get a seat - it does get very busy with locals and tourists alike! I was unable to reserve a table online, so I decided to chance to visit without a reservation, despite being busy, I managed to be seated right away at the last remaining table. All the food coming out of the kitchen looked so good - the meats especially looked fantastic quality, and I struggled to decide whether I wanted to order chicken or steak. I opted for the Grilled Half Chicken which was described on the menu as "Smoked and grilled slowly, served with coleslaw", the food was superb, everything was fresh and seasoned perfectly, the chicken was juicy and well seasoned, the skin was flavoursome and crispy, and you didn't want to leave any of the chicken left uneaten, accompanied by a large portion of coleslaw which was also fresh, made the dish even better. I opted for a portion of thin chips with thyme salt, which again was seasoned well, I did find the sides to be a little expensive at €5 each, but the mains seemed reasonably priced, with my chicken and coleslaw costing €18.5 and the steak starting at €17.5, I guess it adds up in the end. I asked for some mayonnaise to go with my chips, again this tasted fresh, it seems there's no store-bought sauces or food here! The staff were very friendly and happy to help, they seemed to have good training with allergies, the allergen book was incomplete and did not list the "mains" or "steak sauces", but after asking a staff member, they were able to fill in the blanks with confidence. One of the best meals that I had during my time in Amsterdam, and left me missing the CAU brand from the UK even more, everything was fresh and tasty, and I can't fault the food at all. That's five-star worthy in my book!
Dinner at CAU was divine. It's located right in the city center and perfect walking distance to just about anything. We stumbled across it when we were very hungry and they were able to fit us in for dinner. We ordered bread as an appetizer and it was warm and tasty. For my meal, had the half chicken with salad and corn. All so tasty! The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that we were seated right outside right by the door. Pedestrians would come by and stand right next to our table to look at the menu and individuals inside came out and stood right next to us to smoke. We are both allergic to smoke. We loved being seated outside, just not right next to the door.

I usually go straight for the filet, but after snooping around and peeking at other peoples' plates, I changed to the Tira de Ancho. The 2 ladies behind me ordered the same and devoured their plates, so the challenge was on to finish everything. With every open square inch of my stomach, I ate the entire thing (and parmesan truffle fries). Excellent meal and even better service. Highly recommend.
This restaurant is located on a very busy street near the canal, for some reason all around the neighboring areas has a lot of Argentina steak houses. I've decided to try this one since it looked a bit more upscale, but it was only a front. I was disappointed at the service, we were sat down and placed an order only for a steak and a burger. It took about an hour for the food to come out, and that was even when we asked the waiter multiple times if the food was coming out. They were not even busy, which made it frustrating. I got the Medallions steak, and it was kind of tasteless, I was recommended some kind of pepper sauce and it did not help at all with the flavor. Overall, very disappointed in the service and the food.

I got a steak since I figured they must do steaks the best. I ordered a medium rare 10oz sirloin with the spicy marinade on it. I also got the chicken wings as an appetizer. I ordered the top draft beer which was good, no complaints. Chicken wings were on the small size but I enjoyed them. The steak came out medium instead of medium rare, I was really hoping for medium rare. The sauce they said was super spicy, but I'm indian and I tolerated it. My biggest gripe was at least 3oz of the steak was inedible fat. My girlfriend got a 7oz sirloin and she probably ended up with 1 oz of inedible fat. It didn't really make any sense. Overall low score because I've had better steaks for much cheaper. Disappointing but oh well.
Stopped into CAU Steakhouse without a reservation and were pleasantly surprised--they were able to accommodate us right away, which was a huge win. We ordered the 900g sampler, and it was fantastic. The meat was juicy, perfectly grilled, and gave us a great taste of multiple cuts, making it ideal for sharing and trying a little bit of everything. Each piece was flavorful and cooked just right--exactly what you want from a steakhouse experience. The burger was spot-on, especially for the kids--simple, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly. Pair everything with the crispy fries and classic sides, and it made for a very satisfying meal. Great food, welcoming service, and flexible seating even without a reservation. If you're in Amsterdam and craving a solid steakhouse with options for both adults and kids, CAU is a great choice. Would definitely return read more
Great steak restaurant in a touristy area with prices to match. But the quality of the meal was worth the price. The service could have been better, and our waitress charged us a service charge (like they do in the States, which we didn't expect or experience anywhere else in Amsterdam) read more
The service left a bit to be desired but the food absolutely made up for it!! Some of the best steak I honestly have ever head!! We for the sampler at 900g and it was MORE than enough!! A fun atmosphere mixed with yummy drinks and delectable food you can't go wrong!! read more
My first time here for lunch but I have diner here for years for dinner. The burgers were delicious and my coworker had the steak sandwich and he enjoyed it. Definitely worth a try if you are in the area for lunch and I definitely recommend them for dinner read more

For been right in the middle of the beaten part not to bad, the meat was really tender. we had the mixed grilled which it was around 2 pounds of meat more than plenty for 2, the only thing it was lacking seasoning didn't had any at all. read more

Solid spot for a quick dinner. A friend of mine suggested I come over here if I was looking for a meal and I'm glad I did. Service was great and the ambience was pretty empty at the time I went but overall a great meal! read more

CAU's an Argentinian steak and meat restaurant near Dam Square. Tira de ancho: spiral-cut ribeye steak. Cooked to the right temp. Good flavors, great presentation. It was nicely cut and trimmed. If there was any interior gristle, they removed it--that's one of the main benefits of the spiral cut. This restaurant is in a touristy area, so although Dutch restaurants don't traditionally expect a tip, they do expect that here. read more

Came in today, place is nice and service us decent.. I ordered the Asado bbq ribs, a eib is supposed to be as tender as butter but what I got felt like tires in your mouth, I showed the lady whom was surprized and she told me they will prepare me another one... the second one was worse than the first lol. Ended up leaving, I felt sad for the hostess as it is not her fault, she tried and was nice. Anyways Ill leave you with the photo... oh they did not charge me for it too, which is only fair to mention. read more

Fantastic restaurant! Great food! Beautiful setting! Got the superfood salad, veggie burger, and the sweet potato. Everything was great especially the sweet potato! Dimitar was our server and he was super sweet and incredibly nice! Dimitar made our night!!!! read more
What is good to eat in Amsterdam?! EVERYTHING!! And what is good to eat that's also in abundance?! ARGENTINIAN food!! Amsterdam, Netherlands is like the city of LA. It's like all the ethnic cultures flocked to this one European city to set up restaurants and share their food. But the Argentinians definately dominate! Almost everywhere you walk and every corner you turn, you will see an Argentinian restaurant. So of course, during my stay in Amsterdam, I just had to try Argentinian meat and see what the fuss is all about! There's this one place right in the heart of the city called CAU Carne Argentina Unica. They are known for their steaks and who doesn't love a good slab of meat?! I know I do!! So let's see what these people have in them to serve up some good cow meat! belly of pork tempura - melt in the mouth pork in a light batter alongside their special CAUchup. Okay, I know it's not about meat yet, but when I saw that there is pork belly and tempura together in the menu, I just had to give it a try! Talk about the fusion of different asian cultures into one yummy, crispy bite!! The pork belly was definately juicy, fatty, savory, and soft inside that crispy tempura. Just the perfect mix and warm-up to get my belly ready for Argentinian steak! truffled mac & cheese - I normally like my steak with mashed potatoes, but hey, some mac-n-cheese is just as good for a change! With sprinkled bread crumbs on top, it was a good cheesy mix to eat with the steak!! CAU Classic Selection - this platter has all 4 classic cuts: rump, rib-eye, sirloin, and fillet. Served with chimichurri. Now it's not just one piece, it's four!!! And each slab of meat is a different part of the cow! Now I'm gonna be honest, I actually forgot which piece was what.. I swore I memorized it on the spot so that I could tell you guys, but here we are, weeks later and my memory failed me But I remember the third piece being my favorite?? They were all good though!!! Pros: -menu was in English (thank god)! -friendly, attentive service -clean bathroom -delicious food -delicious drinks Cons: -wish i had a bigger belly to eat more! Tip: Come in a party so that you can order more and try a variety of food! The menu is hard to resist! read more
CAU is an awesome steakhouse located right near Dam Square on a relatively busy street. This was probably the best steak place I have eaten in the Netherlands. I ordered the Lomito with a side of Mac n cheese and I must say, mmmmmm! The cut was a very traditional argentine cut that was cooked to absolute perfection, they also put this blue cheese sauce stuff on the side that made the steak taste absolutely amazing. Pair this with a seasonal Heineken and some truffle Mac and you have yourself a wonderful meal. The location itself is fantastic and very modern and it is all topped off with fantastic service. Overall CAU is awesome and a perfect spot for you to get your carnivorous needs fulfilled. Busy place. I got somewhat confused on the "vibe" of this place. I couldn't tell if it was expensive cheap, cheap expensive, cheap, or just expensive. The drinks were good. Full bar with a wide variety of cocktails. The steak medallions I had were just okay. The were undercooked and very difficult to eat. They also lacked flavor. I shouldn't have to pay extra to had a sauce/flavor to ANY steak. The view from upstairs is nice, and the service was efficient. read more
If you walk along Damstraat, you'll see A LOT of Argentinian places. This place might be pricier compared to others but it's definitely worth it. It was one of the best meals we had in Amsterdam. My husband ordered the steak and it was cooked perfectly to his liking. I ordered the empanadas and it was delicious - meat was flavorful while the dough was crisp. The empanada was packed with meat that it was almost coming out of the dough. The onion rings were just okay though. I would highly recommend this place. read more

Great selection of Argentinian cuts in any size you could want! Friendly service, a wide selection of boozy goodness and reasonable prices. Oh and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating too! If you are looking for a place in the downtown zone and like beef this is the place for you! read more
Great place for a nice dinner. It is very busy and has 3 floor. The first floor is very loud and space is tight. Luckily, we sit on the 3rd floor next to the window and it was nice and calmer. The design is good and the service was amazing. I had the steak sandwich and the enchiladas! Both were so tasty and full of flavor. Will go back! 4 stars for the noise level, but I was there on the King's weekend so maybe it's exceptionally busy! read more

Could this probably be the best burger in Amsterdam? Every month we test a different place where they serve burgers with the yelp burger tour. This time it was CAU. The restaurant is very nice and clean. Serving is quick and the personnel is friendly. You can choose between 4 different type of burgers. I tried the BBQ burger medium rare. It was super yummy delicious. The meat is very juicy and of good quality also the bread was fresh. After eating one you immediately could have another one! CAU is definitely the place to be to have a burger! I am wondering how good/excellent the other dishes on the menu are... Next time! read more
Amsterdam has a lot of steak houses, Argentinians in particular, so if not a lot of Yelp reviews are available it is difficult to pick the right one. This place had good Yelp reviews and came recommended by the Doubletree Hilton hotel we stayed at. The place is crowded so is best is to get a reservation in advance. We were seated right away because we had a reservation. For appetizers we ordered the chorizo and cream cheese empanadas and park cheeks. Both amazing, the pork chees were melting in your mouth server with a light yogurt sauce that cut some of the fat taste and made it amazing. The empanadas had a unique smoke taste from the chorizo they were creamy inside with a flaky crust on the outside, my favorite as an appetizer. For main courses we had steak, pork belly, portabella mushroom and chimichuri sauce as side dishes. The steak was seasoned cooked perfectly, very tender, almost did not need a knife. Pork belly was crispy on top and cooked very well. Everything tasted amazing. A definite steak house to visit. Staff service was good as well. Also they serve half of a bottle of wine for certain wine selections, which is nice if you don't want an entire bottle for the meal. read more
