Castillo San José was built in 1776 and is know as the hunger castle. Due to the island being isolated and poor the then king of Spain commissioned the castle to help feed the people of lanzarote.
The castle is now the MIAC Museum of International Art and Culture.
Below the museum facing the port is a café / restaurant designed by the islands artist Cesar Manrique. It's an ideal place to grab a coffee or lunch and enjoy the view. If you are walking from Costa Teguise then a new path built for the cruise customers leads you right to the door and is a great place for a rest. read more
