I called them immediately, and they initially said there would be a $250 restocking fee if I returned it. I agreed because I was too terrified to use it. They said they will talk to the manufacturer it's take a week they called back and refused the return, claiming I had already opened and used it. My question is: how was I supposed to know it was defective and dangerous without turning it on? They offered to repair it, but I no longer trust this unit. I don't know when it might flare up again. I was ready to order three booths for a restaurant I'm opening and over the course of three weeks I really wanted to give them my money but I could not even get a simple quote emailed to me. I'm opening up a restaurant in Oakland (Fruitvale) and Castillo's has been a godsent. They have not only supplied us with all of our kitchen equipment in a timely manner, but they've provided expertise on passing our inspections. They also have shown up for inspections to do them with me, to ensure I pass. Their kitchen equipment is priced competitively. And they offer used and new eqt. They've helped with a bunch of little things I need- like tuning my walk-in, changing electrical outlets to different voltage, connecting all my eqt's plumbing, installing everything, sourcing my s/s, installing my DW station, connecting my hood's DCV, helping me find someone who could do kitchen drawings for us, making our custom booths, getting me urgent items quickly. Honestly, I'm in Oakland and there are closer restaurant supply stores, but I worked with them and they were awful. I'm now a seriously loyal Castillos Restaurant Supply consumer because Castillo's offers superior customer service at every turn. They're very responsive and get right back to me. There have been times where I call them every day and they never sounded annoyed at me, which I appreciated. They're honestly THE BEST and I'm so thankful that my neighboring business owner (Obelisco's) recommended them to me. I was in a tight spot when I came to them because I needed things quickly, and they came thru when no other restaurant supply chain could/would. I work specifically with Juan, who is a GEM. Ugh. I called looking for an apron and the guy who answered told me they had the one I needed in stock. I drove alllll the way over and guess what? They didn't have it. When I wen't up the the register the guy standing by the phone answering calls (this must have been the guy who answered when I called) the guy puts his hand up and said he "I will be with you in just a moment". 5 Minutes later he was still on the phone and never came to help me even though I know he saw me looking over at him the entire time. So I just left. Work customer service experience ever. There is an air of disorganization at Castillo's. They have a lot of stuff, but it's kind of hard to find what you need. It looks like the inventory has been sitting there for a while. The do have a lot of different glasses and plates on hand that a lot of other places did not, that's cool. I even found some square plates that I want for an affordable price (when I buy a dozen). Sheet pans and sautee pans were a little more than I want to pay, but they had a pretty good selection. Actual professional kitchen equipment was abundant, taking up most of the floorspace. Man, when will I learn to read reviews before dealing with a company. I ordered and paid for two food steamers, which were supposed to arrive on 7/28/15. I called this morning, and was told by Javier that he would call me back in five minutes. I waited 2 hours and called him back again, to be told they would not arrive until Tuesday 8/5/15...not acceptable. He did offer a less expensive option, and said they could have them in the store by 4 pm today. I am desperate and agreed. Javier asked me if this was okay? I said yes, and he hung up. When I experience good customer service, I make sure to leave a raving review...when I receive horrible service I leave an honest interpretation of my experience, and this is it. I have been dealing with this company for years. They have Competitive Prices, Great Customer service, A wide selection from Used to Brand New Great Products . Very helpful on making sure your refrigerator is the perfect size and brand for your project. Organization of stock supply is Good there is pricing on the items, you just have to look and ask if you can't find something they will be more than Helpful to get you what you need. Bought a used refrigerator here a few months back. It died a few days after the 30 days. Castillo's was extremely unhelpful. I had my own refrigeration guy look at it and he said the thing was a total mess. He thinks that they may have just pieced mealed a few refrigerators together to refurbish the one that was sold. A solid place for the home cook like myself. There is definitely an air of disorganization, but you are buying new can find what you need fairly quickly. I bought a 12 quart stock pot there for $25 including tax. Pros: ~ They put all the stuff for home cooks up front including some of the machines a home cook could be tempted to buy. ~ Really cheap prices on goods compared to a department store ~ Staff are hard to identify on the floor, but go to the register and ask for help on someone will guide you to shopping nirvana. ~ There is a huge selection of used equipment in the back of the store. There is everything I could think of there. Cons: ~ So to the restaurant owners and chefs looking for used equipment the place is a bit of a madhouse. When you have a piece of equipment purchased and installed from Castillo's don't expect them to be responsible for anything. They are only good at one thing and that is passing the buck! This company is not only sells supplies but his brother Anthony runs the construction side of the business which is why i call him a crook who will talk really good about doing this and that sounds really sincere convincing but is all lies. You better get everything in writing because this guy has short term memory loss or or just a fake. He does a lot of sloppy work short cuts and sometimes I think he lies so much he thinks he's telling the truth. Everyone who uses him has bad things to say about his work ethics. I have never seen a grown man like him lie and talk his way out of things he's a pro. The store retail side of the business is legit but the construction is all bad. This is my first impression; perhaps Castillos will pull it out at the last minute. Ordered table online. Beneath image was printed "FREE SHIPPING". On check-out, I was billled for shipping. I am accustomed to receiving an email order confirmation from ALL companies. Nothing from Castillos. They did bill my credit card, though. 3 days later, I called to inquire about the order status and some entirely earnest employees told me that the person in charge of Internet orders was in a meeting and would be gone for a week. No one could even look the the order up on their computer system. Orders are apparently so confidential that they cannot be fillled. Their prices are good; their phone help seems sincere; their web site is a killer, their phone system is quite automated and informative. With all of this going for them, my experience so far, is that Castillos needs some leadership. They don't seem able to actually sell anything. I will update this if they get their act together. I am off to put a hold on my credit card for my purchase. THIS IS A FOLLOW UP: I called and attempted to cancel the original order. No one able to do that was available. I was able to reorder on the phone, but not cancel the original order. Status is that original order is in limbo. (I won't pay for it.) New order arranged with a branch of Castillos that actually conducts business will be delivered on Monday. Despite "free shipping" offer online, I am paying 30 dollars for delivery. I like the people that I talked to on the phone; though they could not say it, I get the impression that the Internet wing (a person, I think) of their organization is a problem for them as well. DO NOT ORDER ONLINE - I was looking for a stainless steel sink. Found one from them online and called to see if they had it in the store. They didn't so decided to place online order. Said the sink should be in within 2-3 days. More than two weeks later and still no sink. After repeated calls (which have been happening daily now) I was always given another reason as to why it would be just one more day until delivery or answer on delivery. Have finally cancelled order and will be ordering from Amazon which I obviously should have done in the first place. Bummed not to be able to shop locally. read more
