What a VERY pleasant surprise! My fiance and I called in an order to this spot to pick up, as we drove back to Charlotte from VA. They have great reviews so I was excited and they did not disappoint. The restaurant itself is very unassuming and chill. I walked in and waited about 5 mins for my food. Everything was AMAZING! I tried the beef and lamb gyro, small greek salad and their Moroccan mint tea. SO GOOD! Literally everything tasted so fresh and was packed with herbs, spices and flavors. Even the tea was unlike any tea I've ever had and it inspired me to really get on my tea game at home. It was just that good. I wiiiiish we had this place in Charlotte, I would probably be a regular. Unfortunately, I didn't have the best experience customer service wise, and I think it might be a demographic issue. I noticed a different level of treatment for different people that came in, even though there were others that it was their first time there just like me. Expressing I've never been there before and asking about the menu and getting the cold shoulder, ordering a falafel sandwich and sitting down to wait, and wait. An older couple came in expressed the same thing about being New. There never been there asking about the menu and they sit down for their food, or prompt brought out a big old sample platter of all their different items to try , and then our orders were delivered at roughly the same time. My falafel also wasn't freshly cooked, it was cold and honestly wasn't super impressive. Lacking in any sauce, there was some, but it was all on the surface, underneath it was cold and dry. Typically, I give a place two or three chances before I leave anything that might be taken as negative, but I don't plan to go back here. I would've ordered some more stuff too. Had they been a little nicer or at least a little more customer service orientated, I would've ordered some stuff to take for others and order some desserts but no. read more

I'm on the fence about rating my stop at Castle. The tabbouleh was tasty and refreshing, and the stuffed grape leaves weren't bad either, but my kofta kebab seemed especially bland and dry. Someone out there is bound to read that last part and wonder why I'm not factoring in the very nature of grilling that meat as a drying mechanism. But this seemed too lean, too dense and too overcooked a preparation, for I've had kofta kebab that was cooked throughout yet still juicy and flavorful. The woman taking orders at the counter was a bit awkward as well, not in an impolite sense but instead lacking warmth and a bit peculiar in her interactions. The restaurant is located in a strip mall set back a bit off the roadway but not difficult to find. Things seemed clean and well kept as far as I could tell. Maybe I set my hopes too high, especially in a Mebane-sized community. Maybe other main dishes are superb. But my kebab just didn't do it for me. read more

Stopped for a quick lunch as my family was traveling through the area. The food was so fresh! I had the falafel pita combo with fries. Everything was hot and fresh. The portion size was plentiful. The ambiance was traditional with a Mediterranean vibe. We waited for our food a little longer than a fast food place, but shorter than a sit down dinner. I was on my way home, passing through the area, and had bookmarked this spot a while back. It was dinner time, and since Mediterranean food is always a winner in my book, I decided to give it a try. It was a Sunday evening, and when I called to place my order, the line was busy. It took me two or three tries to get through, but when I did, the gentleman who answered was super friendly and helpful. I went with the traditional lamb gyro combo, paired with a side of grape leaves. I think I might've gone against the local trend because when I arrived to pick up my order, they had accidentally packed it with French fries instead of grape leaves. No big deal, though--after a quick reboxing, they had me out the door and on my way. The gyro itself was fantastic. They do their own blend of lamb, beef, herbs, and spices, which I really appreciate--it adds a layer of authenticity and flavor that you don't always find. The meat was generously portioned with nice thick cuts, and the tzatziki was spot-on: creamy, tangy, and fresh. It took about 15 minutes for my food to be ready- hot & fresh. They made it just the way asked, didn't skimp on ingredients, & I really enjoyed my Dr. pepper with it and they gave me a free refill to go as well! Solid mediterranean food. We got a lamb kebab with side of falafel and tabbouleh as well as ordered an extra kofta skewer. The cashier was a bit curt but nothing too horrific. She instructed we had to sit at the center table to wait for our takeout order because that way it indicated we paid... it was just us and another 2 people dining in so I'm not sure what the need was but maybe it was a system they needed to have going when they were super busy. Anyways, the food was made to order and smelled great. The lamb was nice and well seasoned. The kofta had a good meaty flavor. The falafel was nice a crispy and had a good crunch. The amount of tzatziki and tahini were a small plastic container that was insufficient for the amount of food but nbd. The basmati was fine. If we didn't get the extra kofta, I think the platter would have fallen short on protein. Overall, solid choice for Mediterranean in Mebane. Falafel was good and the protein was tasty. After hitting the outlets to purchase fall fashions that I'm sure my toddler will grow out of in the next 5 minutes, I decided to try something good. Since we lost Mooney's in Winston-Salem, I've wanted some really good Mediterranean. The restaurant was in a small strip mall just one exit from the outlets. There are several small straps on that road, but it's the one across from the State Employee's Credit Union. Although the strip mall was sort of tucked away, the restaurant has a nice large sign in front of it. I called in my order and spoke to a nice lady who was very patient and answered my questions. I ultimately ordered the Kafta over rice with cauliflower and falafel as my sides, an order of lentil soup and a side of hummus. The Kafta Kabob was a little dry and tough, but it was seasoned well. The rice was not seasoned at all. The dish was described as being served with a garlic sauce, but it didn't taste very garlic forward to me. The falafel was bursting with flavor and perfectly crispy on the outside. I dipped it in the tasty tzatziki sauce, and it took it over the top!! The cauliflower was referred to as roasted cauliflower and/or cauliflower salad. It was served cold and it was very garlicky, and herbaceous, but the lemon just over powdered the flavor. The lentil soup was unlike anything I've ever had. The lentils were ground and served in a spicy vegetable broth. It is a vegan option. It was delicious, but the texture was very different. Finally, the hummus. They have a couple of options. The regular/general flavor and a flavored option. I ignored the name of it when she mentioned cilantro. I'm one of those, "it tastes like soap" people. The hummus was creamy, seasoned, and served with warm pita. They also top your individual serving with extra olive oil and seasonings. Echoing Shon K's review above - customer service is abysmal. I had ordered fries and drinks with my meal on a delivery service. I was told that it was the delivery service's problem, when I know that it's a relationship between the restaurant and the food delivery service how the app is coded. Castle could change the sandwich/combo issue with Uber - they just won't. You think you're getting fries and a drink because the selection is REQUIRING it. You're not. The person who answered the phone was rude and interrupted me several times. Instead of listening to my concern, she overtalked me. In addition, I contacted Uber customer service 3x to get this issue resolved - and still did not reach a resolution. The first time I got $2 back and was told it was all they could do. I had no idea about Castle's Uber business account issue at that time. The second time, the representative hung up on me as they were about to tell me what they could do. The third time, I told the person I just wanted to cancel my Uber account. They said, okay. I received a total of $4 back. The steak and cheese pita was chopped Steak-umm and horribly salty and greasy. I figured I might be getting halal beef and more like a Philly cheese. The falafel were overfried, smashed, greasy, but also a bit dry with only the tahini. It's why I ordered tzatziki. TL;DR Terrible customer service, weird empty restaurant ambience the times I've gone in before, and the food quality has also gone downhill. I would not recommend Castle Mediterranean. I'd suggest going to Mykonos where they still care about customers - better food, better people, better service. read more

Freshest pita bread I've ever had in my life! I got the lamb platter and thought the meat was perfectly spiced. Very tasty food overall. I got the jalapeño hummus and grape leaves as my sides. Both were good. Food was served in about 15 minutes, so very reasonable. My one regret was getting the salad with Iceberg lettuce (almost no flavor). Restaurant is nothing special inside - average for similar Mediterranean eateries I suppose. I look forward to going again soon! read more

Our food took forever to get ready, so I was going to subtract some stars from this review BUT the food was so good that the wait was more than worth it! We ordered a chicken kabab platter and a kofta sandwich. The chicken on the kabab was tender, the rice was aromatic, well seasoned and delicious. Baba Ghanouj and the jalapeño hummus tasted fresh, again very flavorful with a crispy pita on the side. The kofta sandwich was big enough to be enjoyed for me and my husband. Delicious combination of beef and lamb with a warm pita lettuce and tomatoes. They also had fountain drinks what it was a plus for us. Staff was very nice. Everything cooked to order, fresh and clean. Delicious! I highly recommend this place!! I already want to come back for more! read more

We stopped in for dinner on a drive down I-40 on a whim- and now can't believe how far it is from home. We will find excuses to go here. We got the chicken shawarma and falafel pita sandwiches. As Mediterranean lovers, my partner and I seek out great gyro, shawarma, and falafel all around the east coast. As much as it pains us to admit, Castle beats out our previous favorite. The falafel is hands down the best I've had. Fresh parsley takes it over the edge, and the texture is perfect. The sauces and quality of pita are also super, and we have high standards. Seriously, this dinner made our night after an exhausting move. Please stop here- and please let the owners know how much you love the food. Next time we'll eat in so that we can. read more

As much as we were excited to try this place, the disappointment was much bigger. Chicken Kabab platter: chicken was extremely dry and old. A couple of pieces were okay but the rest were old and disgusting. Luke warm. That tells me that they had the chicken cooked ahead of time and just put it a little bit on the grill. When we made the order, they told me that It will take 15 mins and after 20 mins wait, this is what we got, inedible chicken. Falafel sandwich: took the falafel out of the sandwich because they taste much better than the rest of the ingredients and the bread. Falafel is okay but get it by itself on a plate. Kofta Kabab platter: stay away!!! I ate one bite and left everything as is. It is disgusting, literally. I had hummus as a side, watered down to an unrecognizable taste. We had grape leaves as sides on both platters, they are good, but guess what, they are canned, not made on site. So no credit to the restaurant here. Tabouleh side: disgusting! I just have one question for the owners of this restaurant: have you ever tasted tabouleh at any point of your life? A 5 year old can get the ingredients off of the internet and put them together. How can you screw up tabouleh!!! This restaurant is a disfrace to the middle eastern cuisine. Please stop this massacre. read more

Best kabob in the area What can I say We are a team of workers from Virginia, we came here for a project in Lenovo fulfillment center, and we wanted to eat simething halal and kabob, so we did some research in google, untill we found this place,we head toward it, we were kinda late because they close at 21:00, but we ended up having a great experience The Lamb Kabob was my favorite with beef kofta and falafel side with tabola, which was almost my always platter. Very friendly environment, and people are from Algeria, as I was told. Thank you guys for the great job and delicious food you are making Unfortunately, I haven't taken any pictures to show. Small place located in a little plaza not far from interstate 40. The service isn't overly friendly but thats not a big deal in my opinion. I will admit I dont have a lot of experience with this type of food so I wasn't sure what to order and they didnt recommend anything. I ordered a lamb and beef plater. Basically 1 piece of meat which im not sure if it was lamb or beef or ground up and made into 1 patties but it was really dry and over cooked. They gave 2 sides and rice (which was extremely dry), the size i got hummus and pita (which was good), but they gave like 6 tiny triangles of pita and a ton of hummus so i couldn't finish the hummus bc i ran out of pita. The other side i got was pasta salad which i did not enjoy. My kids ordered chicken tenders and fries which they liked. My wife ordered a chicken salad which she didn't really like because the chicken was dry. They have sauces and foods sitting in a cooler in a giant bowl that i assume sits out all day so it's not very appealing. They forgot everyone's drinks and brought them out periodically. Id recommend if you come, maybe get a sandwich or gyro and call it a day. read more

I'd heard good things about Castle Mediterranean from neighbors; and I'm so glad I was able to recently try it for myself. Between my husband and I, we ordered one chicken kabob platter with mujadara, tzatziki, and salad; and one lamb and beef gyro with fries. Online ordering was a breeze, and I really appreciated that they give you the option for customization. My husband loved his gyro, commenting often on how delicious and flavorful it was. He tried some of my kabob and we both agreed that the chicken was well seasoned and tender. I also loved the tzatziki, which tasted fresh, slightly tangy, and was the perfect consistency for eating with pita (not too thick and not watery). The mujadara was different in flavor than most that I've tried (Neomonde, Mediterranean Deli, Sassool); Castle's has more of what I believe is a turmeric or curry flavor, which I enjoyed even though I was slightly let down that it wasn't what I was expecting. The salad was incredibly fresh and I loved the creamy Greek dressing that accompanied it. I'd have loved even more feta cheese on the salad, so I think I may ask for a little extra next time. My husband wasn't a huge fan of the seasoned fries, but Castle has many side items to choose from and we are sure to find a side that he likes better on our next visit. We are so happy to have Castle just a few miles up the road from us, and we can see ourselves becoming frequent customers. I needed to find a place to grab food for my kiddos quickly and happened upon this restaurant. I was impressed by the strong Yelp reviews and decided to give it a try. I placed our order online through the website which was an easy process, which I did not take for granted because it is not always the case. I appreciated that there was an option to either pay online or once we arrived for pickup. I opted to wait and pay in the restauranr, just in case. When we arrived, my husband went inside to pay for our food and get the order. My daughter ordered the falafel sandwich with a side of fries. My son opted for the chicken kabobs, with french fries, tzakiki, and salad. My husband got a side of hummus with pita. I ordered a side of lentil soup. My kiddos food looked really good. I samples a few of their fries, which were hot and well seasoned. I also tasted some of the hummus and pita which was very good as well. My lentil soup was flavorful and well seasoned. The only negative is that it separated very easily with the broth on top and lentils down at the bottom. I have had lentil soup at another restaurant where this was not the case. But overall it was a fantastic experience. I am definitely saving this restaurant as a favorite when we are in the area. read more

The food was unbelievable, the restaurant spotless and the owner and staff friendly and efficient. The Shawarma and Gyro were stuffed full and so flavorful....best I have had outside of the Middle East. Do not leave without ordering the Mujadara lentil, rice and caramelized onion dish. The Hummus was top shelf and they had a jalapeño and cilantro hummus variant that was awesome. This place is located about a half mile off I-85 in Mebane Exit 153. I used to stop here when traveling to hit Smithfield BBQ. Those days are over. No way i will pass this exit without making this my new regular lunch or dinner stop.
