This place has the best hummus in town! I have tried, most is the other restaurants, Flames, (LOVE THEIR THICK PITA BREAD THOUGH), Casablanca, love them too, but Castle has my favorite hummus. I love it and often just get an order of hummus-like 2 times a week usually. Their portions are much better than any in town, also. LOVE THE OWNERS! They are so nice and friendly! Oh and the side salad, and Greek salad is awesome too. And the Phillycheese steak, etc. The pita bread differs, sometimes it's thick and lately it's been thin. Either way, doesn't matter since I usually skip it and eat it with veggies anyway. Just absolutely love this place! The neighborhood is changing for the better I believe. read more

Since being in Memphis for the past 6 months, we have been to this small eatery more than any other restaurant. One reason is that it is close to work. The other is that is a terrific place to grab a bite to eat. The menu is simple but the food is consistent and the flavor is excellent. One must order at the counter and then the food is brought to your table. The woman who cooks and runs the place is always there and is very sweet. The platters are served with rice or bread. The selections of Gyros, Kofta and Chicken are hearty and delicious. They also have a combination plate if you cannot decide. There is a very small side salad included as well. We often order the salads which are salads topped with chicken or gyros meat. the portion is large so be careful about ordering sides. We are leaving Memphis for the Summer and will miss this place. Castle is everything you want out of a local 5-star hole in the wall restaurant: the staff is incredibly friendly, the food is delicious, and the place is clean. I've only been a handful of times and usually I come with a purpose: the lamb/beef gyro. Along with Grecian Gourmet, it's my favorite gyro in town (I love gyros, so I've had plenty). It's $6 and the ingredients are so fresh and the meat is so good. I've had bites of the others' falafel and shish taouk sandwiches which also tasted great. Very tell you stay shish kebab. Will be returning. Not an extensive menu, But good enough for lunch.

Stupid good food. Owner is super nice and does a great job. Please note the heavy use of garlic and no, it would not be a good place for a date! I would say some items to try but it is all good and I would recommend anything on the menu. Even the fish sammy. They are known some for their burgers and they are very good as a hangover helper. read more

Fish, chicken and MEDITERRANEAN I've seen this place several times in the strip mall near Park and Goodlett, but I thought it was just another generic chicken joint. Yesterday, however, I walked by at lunchtime and saw the most enticing looking Mediterranean food on the sidewalk diners' plates. I went right in and ordered a gyro. They do have catfish and fried chicken, but they also have falafel, kabobs, etc. I have to say it was the best gyro I've had in Memphis. The pita was the perfect mix of chewy and fluffy. The lettuce and tomato were colorful and fresh. The meat, however, was the best part. It didn't taste like the usual Kronos fare. The slices were thick, juicy, and had just the right amount of char. It was so big I had to eat it with a fork. I look forward to trying more of the menu. The lack of the fifth star is due to the location and the general lack of atmosphere in the small dining room (trash tv on loudly--ugh). Service was fast and friendly. read more

Caste Restaurant is kind of odd. It not only sells Mediterranean cuisine, but it also makes fried chicken. Like, the big sign above the door on the outside advertises that it's a fried chicken shack, but if you look closely, a small, thin sign says, "Castle Restaurant." Seems like some strange restaurant identity crisis. Now, before I get all psychological up in here, I'll talk about my experience. I don't know how the dining in experience is, but I recently got an order of falafel and hummus for take-out. Service was prompt and the woman behind the counter was very nice. The food? Well, I had mixed feelings. I loved the falafel; it's the best I've had, period. I will certainly be returning for that! However, the hummus left much to be desired. It was kind of bland, and the pita bread that came with it was very limp/thin, so scoopin' the hummus was kind of difficult. Maybe I came on an off-day for the hummus maker. I'll try it again for sure. For now, though, I will just tell you to get the falafel and skip the hummus. :) read more

Where do I begin to write the story of the Castle. Its by far the best Mediterranean food in Memphis. If its Gyro I want, to the Castle I go. Also, we buy the eggplant dip and pita for snacking. Its so good. I was hosting our Bunco group last night and ordered eggplant dip, chicken and gyro meat, tomato and cucumber salad, pita, tziki sauce and baklava for dessert. The food is always consistently delicious and plentiful. The restaurant is spotless and so is the bathroom .Try the combination meat plate, you will be blown away! A heaping plate of chicken, gyro meat and kafta...so tasty with the right amount of spices and a side of that super "middle eastern aïoli".
