Amazing ice cream! Very delicious flavors very close to south lake tahoe. My favorite ice cream

After a FUN filled day up in Tahoe we were on the search for non-dairy ice cream options && came across Castle Rock Creamery online. Their website shared they had manyyy non-dairy flavors so we decided to take a little detour on our way home && we're sooo glad we did! I was completelyyy surprised by how extensive their menu was! I chose the Pineapple Upside Down Cake && Blackberry Crumble, while Mike went with the Coffee Crunch && Blackberry Crumble after trying a few flavors. He even said he'll definitelyyy be back for the Black Sesame Fig && Ginger! The owners were incrediblyyy friendly && genuinely passionate about their business. They shared their story telling us every flavor is made in house && even shared about their new South Lake Tahoe location opening soon. As we enjoyed our ice cream we watched them give every customer that walked through the door the same warm, friendly service. Their ice cream shop is clean, inviting && has FUN ice cream decor throughout. Our ice cream was creamy, dreamy && absolutely yummilicious! Delicious artisan ice cream just a short drive away to Nevada from Heavenly Village. They allowed me to sample a couple flavors and I ended up with the lavender blueberry honey flavor. Husband got the coffee crunch. Both were amazing flavors separately but not together. Parking lot is located just outside the store. read more

Absolutely incredible. I can not believe I am just learning about this spot. Thank goodness it's not closer to my house. I think I would gain 100 lbs! Upon entering, I noticed the fun decor with ice cream theming all over. There is also a small restroom and plenty of seating inside. We were lucky enough to meet and be served by one of the owners after a Sunday evening Tahoe Knight Monsters game. He explained to us that everything is made in-house with fresh ingredients. There are some very unique flavors as well as some classics, like chocolate and vanilla. However, they kind of put their own spin on everything, like Nutella in the chocolate ice cream. They also have a nice selection of non-dairy options. I really appreciated the mini scoops- a super small scoop, served in a 2-oz cup. Great for just tasting flavors. I ordered a mini scoop of the Black Sesame Fig and Ginger in a cup. I asked for two mini scoops of vanilla in sugar cones for my kids, and my wife ordered a single scoop of the cherry pistachio in a waffle cone. Absolutely serious when I say this- the vanilla ice cream here is the best I have ever had. You should absolutely try it when you come here. You should get other flavors too, maybe even a flight, but absolutely get the vanilla. The Black Sesame Fig and Ginger was perfectly sweet with lots of fig flavor and a light ginger zing. I loved it. My wife enjoyed her cherry pistachio too, with nice chunks of pistachio throughout. Did I mention homemade ice cream cakes?! I heard they sometimes have slices to order instead of the whole cake. I already can not wait to get back in and try the Sticky Stout and the London Fog. I am definitely getting a flight next time because I just want to try everything. Lots of free parking right outside the shop and about 5-7 mins drive from heavenly gandola makes it super convenient for a pit stop to anywhere!! They do have some seating space inside for 10+ people incase u wanted to sit down. Clean restrooms and friendly service. Wall art is interesting :) In $13, we tried a flight of 4, which consisted of: - dark chocolate velvet - 5/5 - super smooth and dark yummy! - hank the tank tracks - 5/5 - peanut butter with salted chocolate pretzels crushed in. Omg. This is the best ice cream ever!!! If you're ever in SLT, take the extra 5 minutes drive out of the congested casino area and get this ice cream!! Every time I visit, Castle Rock is on my agenda. They have unique flavors like carrot cake, which I found out is seasonal BUT SO GOOD, strawberry dreams, cherry pistachio and salted caramel White Russian. Everything is artisan and made in house. Service was wonderful! Both the lady and gentleman at the counter were incredibly friendly and explained the flavors well. The food itself was great! Not particularly a place for children since the flavors are pretty artisan, but great for anyone else. I sat outside on the bench and it was a lovely experience. We've been here three times now, and the ice cream has been consistently great. From what I was told, they use high-quality cream, and you can definitely taste the difference. The only downside has been the customer service. Unfortunately, I've never felt welcomed during any of our visits. There's usually no greeting or offer of samples, so you're left standing there unsure of what to do while the employee simply looks at you. We still make a point to tip because we want to support local businesses, but a little friendliness and common courtesy would go a long way. We were greeted immediately, offered samples and ultimately had the sample four mini scoops as recommended by the staff, since we could not decide on one. Good sell by the young lady at the register! While vacationing with friends in South Lake Tahoe, we decided to hop into Castle Rock Creamery near Stateline to check out this delicious small-batch artisan ice cream. We were greeted by the owners, Josh and his wife Amy, who bring over 30 years of culinary experience into their amazing newly-opened storefront overlooking beautiful Lake Tahoe (started in December 2024). They are both super friendly, love their customers as well as serving up some outstanding desserts. The menu is dynamic, with seasonal favorites rotating throughout the year. There are dairy and non-dairy options, as well as customized gourmet ice cream cakes. Catching my eye was "Hank the Tank Tracks," a sweet (and salty) indulgence with a touch of chocolate. Peanut Butter ice cream overflowing with crunchy, chocolate-covered pretzel pieces, fudge and peanut butter cups. The prices range from $3.50 for a Mini Scoop, up to $11 for a Flight of 4, four scoops for those that cannot decide. There are also additional add ons with cones or Affogato (for that extra caffeine boost), as well as a Popsicle for your four-legged friends. Being from Los Angeles, the prices didn't shock me, especially given the quality of the ingredients. The ice cream is outstanding. Rich, creamy, chalked full of great ingredients and just so damn delicious you'll want more. The Castle Rock team has you covered though, offering pints to go for those late night cravings. Lots of cool artwork and signage, several tables inside as well as in the back area near the Pac Man arcade game and restrooms to enjoy on site. Castle Rock Creamery is one of those great hidden gems in South Lake Tahoe. The offerings are top-notch and the customer service simply outstanding. We stumbled across Castle Rock Creamery while in South Lake Tahoe, and I'm really glad we did. It's a little off the beaten path, which honestly made it feel even more like one of those hidden local places people quietly keep to themselves. The ice cream was excellent -- and you can tell a lot of it is made right there on site. The selection of flavors and cones was probably the best I've seen around Tahoe. But honestly, what stood out just as much were the people. Everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming, and the whole place just had a relaxed, classic ice cream shop atmosphere. We ended up sitting there longer than we planned, just enjoying the evening, the mountain air, and some really great ice cream. I can honestly say it was the best ice cream experience we've had in South Lake Tahoe. Definitely a place we'll go back to. read more

This ice cream store is local, with hand-made small batch ice cream. It was so hard to decide on one of the many delicious-sounding flavors! My hubby chose Cherry-Pistachio (he loved it). I chose a slice of Aloha Carrot Cake... because they make cakes (see photo for menu) and you can order a slice of what they have available at the time! I also sampled the Maple Walnut (tasted like pancakes, yum) and Malted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (so malty and good). I would definitely request an entire Aloha Carrot Cake for my birthday! Finally South Lake Tahoe (well, Stateline) gets a hip boutique icecream truck. (Think: Salt and Straw level ice cream, small batch and made at home by the owners Josh and Amy.) Def on the pricier side, but noticeably higher quality than anything else in the greater Tahoe area. Lots of exotic flavors -- and even the simpler ones were fantastic. Weird quirk of mine: I love getting vanilla ice cream when I first try an ice cream place to see how well they execute their basics, and their version of it the Honey Vanilla Glow was SUPERB, the fragrance of fresh honey really permeating each bite. Note the food truck is parked inside the big parking lot, but on the side of the 50 (instead of the side of the shops) so it may not be immediately visible upon entering the area. They've got a patch of astroturf + some chairs and tables so it's a super cute little oasis of snackhood! :) read more

One of the two best ice cream places I've had in the entire world. Did not expect to find that in a random commercial park in South Lake! I used to love ice cream when I was younger, and I've had a fair bit around the world. Then I became lactose intolerant, and thought I'd have to live with gross vegan ice cream. Caravaggio Gelato in Berkeley, CA got my hopes up again, since they lactose treat their ice cream, with no hit to quality. Never thought I'd find a second place I could enjoy as much. Castle Rock is indeed "vegan" ice cream, but it's so good. I'm lucky if a place has one or two lactose-free flavors; Castle Rock had a dozen, all of them really interesting. I wanted to go back a dozen times to try them all. Alas, we were only in town a few days so I couldn't. But I'm definitely saving this listing for next time I'm up in Tahoe! read more

I almost didn't come here because I was tired after a long day of hiking and full after a big dinner and this was out of my way.... But I'm so glad I didn't skip it because the ice cream was excellent! Worth staying out a little later for. No tasters, so I picked blindly based on names. I went with a scoop of salted caramel white Russian. Sounded like a good combo, and the flavor more than lived up to the name. A lot going on, but each element was perfectly balanced, the texture was smooth, and the whole things was totally enjoyable. I also got a pupsicle for my dog, which turned out to be a little frozen puck in a mini cup. It was small enough that he could have just crunched it if I'd given it to him straight, so I wound up holding it in the cup with my fingers while he licked. Perfect timing: we both finished our treats at the same time. And while I have no desire to try it for myself, the pupsicle actually smelled pretty tasty.... The only real negative is their hours. I want them to open earlier so I can come back before I leave Tahoe! read more

Stop it with this cute roadside ice cream van! After a hike, my husband and I decided we earned a sweet treat and I quickly searched for ice cream near us while driving back into South Lake Tahoe. We had the options of Baked Bear, Coldstone and Mono Cone. We have Baked Bear and Coldstone where we live of course, so figured the best option would be to try whatever this Mono Cone was since it was unique to the area. We quickly veered into this shopping center and were pleasantly surprised to find that it was not an actual shop, but a van that sits out in the back of the parking lot. I was even more pleasantly surprised to see that they had a mini scoop, which was exactly that, mini! 2 oz. As someone who is watching what they eat and calories, I truly appreciate the small options like this that provide a nice taste, but doesn't tempt you to eat more. I went with the chocolate since the other options were a little too different for me and I am definitely a very basic ice cream flavor type girl. It was creamy and delicious! So good! We came here based on the 5 star reviews and it is definitely it'll worth all 5 stars! The portions are on the smaller side compared to most American serving sizes... but honestly you really don't need 3 cups of ice cream! The owner was so nice and he makes all the ice cream himself! We tried a variety of flavors (can't rememeber the names but there was a chocolate, a white Russian kind, a moose tracks style, mint, and the coconut coffee). They were all delicious! I had a gluten free cone which was equally good. Prices a little steep and portions a little small... but the guys running a small business!!! The best thing about the ice cream was that you could actually taste the flavors... it isn't loaded with sugar. I would definitely come back.... I actually think we will!
