Yum!
Rayce M.

Absolutely incredible. I can not believe I am just learning about this spot. Thank goodness it's not closer to my house. I think I would gain 100 lbs! Upon entering, I noticed the fun decor with ice cream theming all over. There is also a small restroom and plenty of seating inside. We were lucky enough to meet and be served by one of the owners after a Sunday evening Tahoe Knight Monsters game. He explained to us that everything is made in-house with fresh ingredients. There are some very unique flavors as well as some classics, like chocolate and vanilla. However, they kind of put their own spin on everything, like Nutella in the chocolate ice cream. They also have a nice selection of non-dairy options. I really appreciated the mini scoops- a super small scoop, served in a 2-oz cup. Great for just tasting flavors. I ordered a mini scoop of the Black Sesame Fig and Ginger in a cup. I asked for two mini scoops of vanilla in sugar cones for my kids, and my wife ordered a single scoop of the cherry pistachio in a waffle cone. Absolutely serious when I say this- the vanilla ice cream here is the best I have ever had. You should absolutely try it when you come here. You should get other flavors too, maybe even a flight, but absolutely get the vanilla. The Black Sesame Fig and Ginger was perfectly sweet with lots of fig flavor and a light ginger zing. I loved it. My wife enjoyed her cherry pistachio too, with nice chunks of pistachio throughout. Did I mention homemade ice cream cakes?! I heard they sometimes have slices to order instead of the whole cake. I already can not wait to get back in and try the Sticky Stout and the London Fog. I am definitely getting a flight next time because I just want to try everything. Support this local ice cream joint! It's incredible!

Lots of free parking right outside the shop and about 5-7 mins drive from heavenly gandola makes it super convenient for a pit stop to anywhere!! They do have some seating space inside for 10+ people incase u wanted to sit down. Clean restrooms and friendly service. Wall art is interesting :) In $13, we tried a flight of 4, which consisted of: - dark chocolate velvet - 5/5 - super smooth and dark yummy! - hank the tank tracks - 5/5 - peanut butter with salted chocolate pretzels crushed in. Loved the unique flavor - strawberry - 4/5 - regular strawberry and tasted good - blueberry lavender honey - 5/5 - another unique twist which was delicious Definitely recommended!!

4.5/5: They have unique flavors and you can try them before deciding. I got two minis and that was just the right amount for me. Got salted caramel white Russian and sesame ginger figs. Salted caramel was really good. Sesame one is different but I cant taste much sesame. Nice little treat post dinner!

Four mini scoop sampler...was enough for two to share. No cheap spoons either for this delicious treat!

Please take the time to get off the main strip and try this ice cream! The flavors are unique and refreshing. Flavors others wouldn't dare combine, Castle Rock has! We were greeted immediately, offered samples and ultimately had the sample four mini scoops as recommended by the staff, since we could not decide on one. Good sell by the young lady at the register! Wished we weren't visiting so we could come back. When we arrived we were alone but by the time we left 15 other people came in. Thank you for being environmentally friendly with the spoons. We must take care of our resources. I love that you recycle, reuse, reduce!!!

We stumbled across Castle Rock Creamery while in South Lake Tahoe, and I'm really glad we did. It's a little off the beaten path, which honestly made it feel even more like one of those hidden local places people quietly keep to themselves. The ice cream was excellent -- and you can tell a lot of it is made right there on site. The selection of flavors and cones was probably the best I've seen around Tahoe. But honestly, what stood out just as much were the people. Everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming, and the whole place just had a relaxed, classic ice cream shop atmosphere. We ended up sitting there longer than we planned, just enjoying the evening, the mountain air, and some really great ice cream. I can honestly say it was the best ice cream experience we've had in South Lake Tahoe. Definitely a place we'll go back to.

While vacationing with friends in South Lake Tahoe, we decided to hop into Castle Rock Creamery near Stateline to check out this delicious small-batch artisan ice cream. We were greeted by the owners, Josh and his wife Amy, who bring over 30 years of culinary experience into their amazing newly-opened storefront overlooking beautiful Lake Tahoe (started in December 2024). They are both super friendly, love their customers as well as serving up some outstanding desserts. The menu is dynamic, with seasonal favorites rotating throughout the year. There are dairy and non-dairy options, as well as customized gourmet ice cream cakes. Catching my eye was "Hank the Tank Tracks," a sweet (and salty) indulgence with a touch of chocolate. Peanut Butter ice cream overflowing with crunchy, chocolate-covered pretzel pieces, fudge and peanut butter cups. The prices range from $3.50 for a Mini Scoop, up to $11 for a Flight of 4, four scoops for those that cannot decide. There are also additional add ons with cones or Affogato (for that extra caffeine boost), as well as a Popsicle for your four-legged friends. Being from Los Angeles, the prices didn't shock me, especially given the quality of the ingredients. The ice cream is outstanding. Rich, creamy, chalked full of great ingredients and just so damn delicious you'll want more. The Castle Rock team has you covered though, offering pints to go for those late night cravings. Lots of cool artwork and signage, several tables inside as well as in the back area near the Pac Man arcade game and restrooms to enjoy on site. Castle Rock Creamery is one of those great hidden gems in South Lake Tahoe. The offerings are top-notch and the customer service simply outstanding. I love supporting local businesses, especially those that have some a passion for their products and engaging with their communities - CRC excels in both areas. Next time you are in South Lake Tahoe near the California / Nevada border, check out Castle Rock Creamery.

I would give 6 starts if I could. I consider myself an ice cream connoisseur and I have to say this place became one of my favorites! Every flavor was an experience and the affogato with any of the flavors was amazing!! 13 of my family went and tried almost every flavor, Owner was patient with us even though we wanted to try everything . Great service, great ice cream, great time! Worth every penny!!

This ice cream store is local, with hand-made small batch ice cream. It was so hard to decide on one of the many delicious-sounding flavors! My hubby chose Cherry-Pistachio (he loved it). I chose a slice of Aloha Carrot Cake... because they make cakes (see photo for menu) and you can order a slice of what they have available at the time! I also sampled the Maple Walnut (tasted like pancakes, yum) and Malted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (so malty and good). I would definitely request an entire Aloha Carrot Cake for my birthday! The gentleman behind the counter - owner or manager? - was friendly and helpful. It's a little out-of-the-way, but so worth the find!

Darling, charming and disarming place...and proprietor. (He's the mind behind the amazing flavor mashups and a fine service provider too!) Unexpected flavors! Exceptional quality! Non-dairy? I don't need no stinkin' non-dairy...but oh my! THE FLAVOR PROFILES ARE CULINARY GENIUS! This is beyond ANY non-dairy you've EVER had! And if you've never had it...THIS is the place to try it!! Black sesame, fig and ginger?!?! Srsly? It is now in my regular rotation...I fancy myself a bit of an ice cream snob and now I'm spoiled...nothing measures up to this! This place alone is worth the trip to beautiful south shore, Lake Tahoe. Love, love, love.

Crap. I forgot to take pics of the actual ice cream! Needless to say, it was delicious as evidenced by no evidence, lol. The key takeaway is they offer a mini size that is absolutely perfect for that post-meal sweet tooth hankering. The owners are warm and inviting. The decor is interesting and colorful. Would definitely return! I recommend the cherry pistachio ;)

Finally South Lake Tahoe (well, Stateline) gets a hip boutique icecream truck. (Think: Salt and Straw level ice cream, small batch and made at home by the owners Josh and Amy.) Def on the pricier side, but noticeably higher quality than anything else in the greater Tahoe area. Lots of exotic flavors -- and even the simpler ones were fantastic. Weird quirk of mine: I love getting vanilla ice cream when I first try an ice cream place to see how well they execute their basics, and their version of it the Honey Vanilla Glow was SUPERB, the fragrance of fresh honey really permeating each bite. Note the food truck is parked inside the big parking lot, but on the side of the 50 (instead of the side of the shops) so it may not be immediately visible upon entering the area. They've got a patch of astroturf + some chairs and tables so it's a super cute little oasis of snackhood! :)

Fun & Unique Dessert Spot -- Great for Kids!…read more We often make a stop at The Baked Bear when we're in South Lake Tahoe for a sweet, memorable treat! This place has a very fun and unique concept -- you get to build your own custom ice cream sandwich by choosing your favorite cookies or brownies and pairing them with premium ice cream in the middle. You can even add toppings or have it pressed warm for an extra gooey indulgence. Personally, it's much sweeter than I normally go for -- definitely a sugar overload -- but that's exactly what makes it a perfect treat for kids. They absolutely loved it! It's big, rich, and very instagram‑worthy! For what you get, about $9.50 is pretty fair in South Lake Tahoe -- especially considering how fresh the cookies and ice cream are and how customizable the dessert is. It's the kind of place where you choose your own adventure with cookie flavors, ice cream flavors, and toppings, and the friendly staff is great at helping you decide what goes best together. We enjoy the vibe here -- it's relaxed, the staff is kind and helpful, and it makes for a fun family stop after dinner or while exploring downtown. Definitely a great spot if you're in the mood for a creative and delicious dessert experience! Especially if you are good at sharing :)

I ordered a Chocolate Devotion, and while waiting in line, I watched the employee tell the customer in front of me that they were "out of chocolate ice cream" and could only make it with the almond milk chocolate version instead. The customer initially declined. Then, right in front of me, the employee went to the back, brought out fresh chocolate ice cream, and made his order anyway. So when it was finally my turn and I ordered the exact same thing, I was told again that they "didn't have any chocolate ice cream." I pointed out that she had literally just made the same order for the person before me using regular chocolate ice cream, and even pointed to the container sitting right there. At that point, the employee changed the explanation and said she "wasn't going to be able to scoop it out" -- even though I had just watched her do exactly that moments earlier. The whole interaction felt incredibly unfair and inconsistent. If you can serve it, then serve it to everyone. You don't pick and choose which customers get accommodated and which ones don't. The service was so uncomfortable and disappointing that both myself and the person I was with ended up walking out without ordering anything. Really disappointing experience.
