Not sure what people are raving about with this place. Everything looks and tastes like it came in frozen from a wholesaler and then just defrosted. We got a chocolate croissant (only decent thing I got, but don't compare it to an artisanal made croissant where it's a dark golden brown with flaky crispy buttery layers). Their "croissants" are more like anemic, soft, moist bread. Also, got a cheese Danish. Starbucks sells a better cheese Danish than this place. The Danish was dry and hard and the center filling looked like it was pre-made frozen and just placed on top of the Danish. Finally, the worst of the worst, I got a personal size dutch apple crumble pie. Now THIS looked like it was made from scratch and I had hopes for this one. However, I took a piece of the crumble topping and ate it. It had an unusual funny taste. Almost like it was made with lavender. Didn't taste quite right. Then, when I got back to my hotel, I really dug into it. It wasn't just the crumble that was off, but the entire pie tasted of rancid spoiled butter. I had to spit it out, it was horrible. I can't believe they would serve that. I don't know how old that thing was, but they need better quality control. The only people I could see giving this place 5 stars on the food, are locals. Tahoe is behind when it comes to quality high end artisanal pastries. I have yet to find a decent coffee shop. Their sign boasts "Voted Best in Tahoe", but you'll see that almost every spot here has the same sign, from ice cream shops to bakeries to whatever else because there's literally nothing here. If you're from a big city, don't come here. Service was pleasant. No complaints. read more

Looks can be deceiving... 3.14 Pie day! Arrived at 2:45pm and we were the only ones there. Not much to choose from, but they did have the lemon meringue that everyone was raving about and two kinds of apple pie. Over two hours until closing at 5pm on Saturday and the chairs were already flipped over on the tables as if they were closing/cleaning. The lady packed our order to go without asking, so I guess that was also a hint to not stick around. Onto the pie: it sure looked nice, but one bite was all I needed. I did take a second bite just to make sure my taste buds weren't playing tricks on me. The meringue was gummy, the crust was soggy. The lemon filling was ok, but did not compensate for the top and the bottom being almost inedible. I don't know if it was old, just bad, or both. This was honestly one of the worst lemon meringue pies I've ever had. We would have been better off getting a pie at the grocery store. We didn't dig into the apple pie yet, but after the lemon meringue, I don't have high hopes. read more

I've always wanted to stop in here after driving by on many visits to the area. We arrived after noon, so perhaps donut selection wasn't as good, but still lots of items to choose from. Very friendly service and reasonable prices. We tried a maple donut, chocolate croissant, bread pudding, strawberry cupcake and day old apple danish. The cupcake was disappointing, not much flavor and icing too light, like whipped cream, for my tastes. Chocolate croissant was big and tasty. Maple donut was tasty. Sugar pine bakery was within a quick walking distance from my hotel room. I was tempted by pictures of lemon meringue pies, so off I went to check it out. They are tucked away just off the road just past a cute clothing shop. I got the lemon meringue, brownie with meringue on top, mini pean pie, and this cream stuffed puff pastry horn that was drizzled with chocolate. The lemon merengue was not as zesty as I like and the merengue ratio was very high. It read a bit more sweet than I anticipated. The mini pecan pie lacked going in-between parts that make it so satisfying that allow the nuts to contrast and give textural interest. It had a chocolate shell under the nuts as well. It wasnt bad, but not the indulgence I was hoping for. The brownie was denser than I personally like, I enjoyed the nuts, and the merengue topping it had. However overall it wasnt my favorite. The little pastry horn filled with yummy creamy filling was 100 percent my favorite. It was light, not to sweet, loved the flaky outside and the filling they made. The little chocolate drizzle added more texture and flavor. 5 stars. My fiance got a sweet matcha drink. It at first tasted good, not to sweet, however the matcha they used has kind of seaweed aftertaste. Overall what I got was not bad at all, it just wasnt curl my toes these calories are worth it good. I wanted to get a cake for my anniversary and found this place because it was one of (if not the only) the places that make vegan cakes. They had a couple good reviews about the vegan cake so I was optimistic. I went on their website to look at what they offered and called them to make an order. I originally was envisioning a heart shaped cake one of the other reviews, so I asked about the price. The employee had to ask someone and asked to call me back. I admittedly forgot about it as well, but I didn't get a call back that day. The next day I called again and they apologized for not returning the call because it got busy. The delay in ordering also caused me to have to schedule pick up for a later time slot, which messed with my schedule. The heart shaped cake would have been like $75 I think ( I don't remember exactly). So I opted for just a round cake instead. When I started my order, I was informed that the vegan option would be extra. I think it was $5 or $10 extra. Not bad but I would have liked to have been able to see that on the website. It would have also been an extra $5 to have both blueberries and strawberries. I ended up getting just strawberries. I requested a simple white cake with white border piping and a big red number 5 in the middle. When I went to pick up the cake, it did not look how I had imagined. But I hid my disappointment because I didn't want to be a bother and I didn't have time to have them redo it and come back. Maybe my request got lost in communication, I admit I could have been more specific. But I did not request red piping on the borders, just red writing. The 5 was also a bit uncentered. The nail in the coffin was when I was handed the cake and the box was taped open. At first I thought it was to be able to see the cake, but I realized the cake was too tall for the box. I would have gladly paid the same price for a smaller cake if it meant it would fit in the box. Because of this, the cake decoration ended up being damaged in transit. I have not had many vegan cakes, but I was excited from other reviews for the taste. The flavor itself was good, but the texture was not. The bottom, top, and outside parts/layers were dry, while the inside was better, but very dense. However, the whipped cream was good and I could have thought it was real dairy. I don't know how their regular cakes and desserts are but I personally would not recommend the vegan cake. read more

The server seemed put out by being asked and took her time getting it done. It wasn't very busy when we got there but the service was so so and not particularly friendly. The coffee was not nearly as good as Free Bird. It was very strong and took lots of half and half. If you like strong coffee this is for you.
