Thirdly, the EBM team is incredibly easy to reach out to whenever we have questions about our children or the school. Ms. Sithy, the director, is also open to suggestions and always strives to improve, creating the best school and environment for the children. Lastly, we appreciate the monthly newsletter, which provides us with valuable updates from the teachers about the topics and subjects they are teaching our children that month. Our children seem to learn new things constantly, but they also maintain a healthy balance between their studies and playtime. They have developed excellent social skills and make friends easily at EBM. Both children started as timid and shy, but they have learned to overcome their shyness and make friends. They always come home excitedly sharing the new things they have learned. My oldest child is now a first grader at a local elementary school. Having my first child go through the entire preschool journey and transition into elementary school, I can confidently say that EBM prepared my son exceptionally well for Kindergarten. My family has been part of the Montessori community in the Castro Valley / Hayward area for roughly seven years. To be blunt, our youngest son can be a challenging child. He doesn't always listen, he has tantrums when he's frustrated, and he was very resistant to potty training. Montessori philosophy is built on meeting children where they are, which is exactly why we believed he would benefit from the same environment that helped our older son thrive. We enrolled him at Early Bird with that expectation. Unfortunately, that's not what happened. The issues began on day one. We were immediately told that our 3 year old's lack of potty training was a problem and that the school "doesn't do potty training." Not only had we disclosed this on the application, but the school accepts children as young as 18 months. This was our first sign that expectations and reality were not aligned. Over the following months, the complaints escalated into allegations of aggressive behavior: biting, scratching, hair pulling, and hitting. The school began sending him home but yet could not provide clear details about what triggered the incidents. The incident reports were vague and the lead teacher was unable to answer basic questions about what actually happened. With about two months left on our contract, we received an "Formal Probation Notice" just days after submitting our intent to re‑enroll as a fallback while searching for a better fit. The notice required our son to undergo a professional behavioral evaluation. Anyone familiar with this process knows that obtaining an evaluation, scheduling assessments, and receiving compiled results cannot be done in 30 days. In the childcare industry, this is widely recognized as a soft expulsion. We recently completed the evaluation, and the results confirmed what we suspected: he has no developmental or behavioral disorders. The IEP recommended only speech therapy. The findings stated that the most likely cause of the behavioral issues was environmental, originating in the classroom itself. Our son is now in a better school where he gets the attention he needs. He is now fully potty trained and is getting along great with his peers. All he needed was some attention which EBM was not capable or willing to give him. If you still interested in EBM, make sure you read their contract and handbook. Ask them to supply their teachers' and school's Montessori credentials. Talk to them openly about their student to teacher ratio and how they handle difficult children. We found it to be inadequate for our son's needs. Good luck.

This is not a review of the daycare program itself but rather of the "application" process…read more If you are thinking about sending your baby or child to this daycare, I would think twice about paying the deposit. I was 3 months pregnant when my husband and I found his growing grove. We put down a deposit for about $250 to "apply" for the daycare program with the goal of sending our child here at 4 months old. We were basically applying one year in advance. They told us they would give us updates on when there was an opening. We didn't get the update that there was an opening until March 2024. It's hard to believe that there was no opening (i.e., not one single infant in the program learned to walk and got moved to the toddler program during our six month waiting period). Our main problem is with the deposit. The deposit does not save you a place in line and it is not refundable. It merely gets you on a list of people to be contacted when there is an opening and then it's a free-for-all to see who submits the final paperwork first. The most reasonable approach would be to not pay anything until there is an opening and then submit the fee with all of the paperwork at that time. Unless time is not a factor to you and you have daycare somewhere else, you should not rely on there being an opening here. It's basically a lottery and you are potentially throwing away your money. We found another daycare that allowed us to send our child on the exact day we requested from the beginning. This daycare had less kids and was able to give more attention to my child.

My husband and I have a 22-month old daughter and it was our intention to send her to pre-school when she turns two years old. Knowing how difficult it is to secure a spot in a good pre-school, we started searching for one when she was only 4 months old (around November 2015). We found HGG, among others, on Yelp. Like many parents, we attended orientation sessions and opening houses. At the end, we narrowed down to 2 centers and since HGG was able to promise us a spot in writing to the Little Lamb class when she turns 2 in September 2017, we also committed ourselves by putting down a $250 deposit in January 2016. Lone and behold, around September of 2016, we found out that we were expecting our second child in May 2017. After much consideration, we also decided to enrol our unborn child to HGG to the toddler program for December 2017 and put in another $250 deposit in December 2016 to secure a spot. Between January 2017 and April 2017, I have been in close contact with the enrolment officer at HGG and in each conversation, I have always been reassured that they have a spot for both my kids at the date they have previously promised. Without any prior notice, I received a deposit refund of $250 in the mail in early May 2017. I called HGG right away to find out if there has been a mistake. It turns out that the enrolment for my baby to their infant class for December 2017 has been turned down and the only explanation given was because of a mix up in their administration (over-booking of babies to their toddler class). With only one week away from the due date of my unborn baby, they had put us under tremendous stress as both my husband and I have already committed to our respective employers our back-to-work plan under the assumption that we are able to send our baby to HGG by December 2017. In addition, when I tried to confirm the enrolment of my 22-month old daughter for September 2017 on the same call, we also found out that they have to postpone her for another year (i.e. until September 2018). By that time, I was furious. If I have not asked, no one at the center would have told us and we would be in deep trouble by the time September 2017 comes around. I apologize for the long read but I do feel strongly about my experiences. I have lost total faith in the school. We cannot help but to speculate whether there were any unfair preferences (i.e. over ethnicity, religion preferences, parents' occupation, etc) for the applicants on the waiting list. It does not matter how well-equipped the facility is, how great the programs are and how attentive the teachers may be, if the administration is run so poorly, as a mother who plans to be an involved parent for my children, I have serious doubts on how well the center is actually being run, which will directly affect the learning environment for my children. There is definitely disappointment for not being able to enrol my children to the school but my above comment arises solely from my frustration of the poor communication from the school administration. I encourage other parents who have also received their unexpected refund deposit in their mail to come forward to also share their experiences on Yelp since I am certain I am not the first and won't be the last.

This institution has consistently had AMAZING teachers.  My sisters' kids had the same teacher, Ms. Michelle and even though my son has different teachers (Ms. Farishta and Ms. Denise), the quality of care and education he received is consistent with the same outcome of her kids. So even though teachers have changed throughout the years, the standards in which these teachers are Montessori trained are high. From day 1, I dropped him off confidently knowing he was in wonderful caring hands. And now that it is towards the end of the year, I reflect back and remain in AWE of the advancement he has made in terms of education and social skills.

He can move on to writing his last name too if you'd like! Our end of year "name goal" is writing first and last name in the lines with correct letter formation. Letter names: 52/52 (above standard for this time of year) Letter sounds: 29/30 (26 sounds were the typical sounds from A-Z and the extra 4 sounds were digraphs. He know 3/4 digraphs! So awesome! He just didn't know "ck"). He is above standards for this time of year in sounds. Phonemic Awareness: 18/22. I went further with him on this assessment than I did with anyone else so far. His sense of language is very strong. Phonemic awareness is hearing sounds in words. He was able to identify beginning sounds, ending sounds, he could blend words together (verbally), and also break them apart. He is further along in this area than a lot of his peers. He is above this standard for this time of year for phonemic awareness. Irregular words (sight words): 22/22 (a lot of kids come in knowing 0-3 words, he is above this standard too!) My little girl started at Miss Helen's at the age of 3 and stayed for two years. Thanks to the preschool's early focus on math and reading, my daughter had already met or 95% of her requirements at her assessment by October, two months into the school year. Her kindergarten teacher was so impressed she asked for the preschool's address and contact info so she could check it out herself for her own son. Now we're in Spring and my daughter is still flourishing and exceeding all expectations for the Common Core curriculum, and I know a lot of it is thanks to her foundation she built in preschool. Going beyond just the educational requirements, my daughter loved the preschool, her teachers, her classmates, and all the activities. The school is very clean and organized, and the children are taught to maintain that. All the students are guided not just in learning their basic manners with "please" and "thank you", but also just showing kindness and acceptance for all. The schedule is well-structured for kids, and even separated for a period for the kids preparing for kindergarten.
