CMA is a true gem. As an elementary school teacher with a degree in early childhood education I was extremely picky when it came to picking a school for my own kids. Our little guy has been attending Children's Montessori Adventure since he turned two, and has now been there a little over a year. He loves it. We love it. The teachers are so deeply kind and caring, and they are so supportive of the children. They focus on empowering kiddos to make good choices and helping them learn responsibility. I had two children who attended Children's Montessori Adventure from age 2 until elementary school. My children were in good hands with Ms. Lorena and the staff. My kids were safe, happy and nurtured at this preschool. The program helps children learn how to participate in a structured group setting while also allowing children to select learning activities and move at their own individualized pace. The staff are actively engaged with the children, and the Montessori approach included hands-on, individual and small group activities to practice life skills and gain early math and literacy concepts. When my children got upset, the staff taught them tools to manage their emotions and calm down. There is lots of outdoor play, art, song and dance, and storytime mixed in also! The preschool has two classrooms and a sweet outdoor play area in the backyard. The staff helped with potty training too. We're all done, but if we had another child we would enroll them to Children's Montessori Adventure too! read more

We've been at CMA over a year now and couldn't be happier with our experience. Ms. Lorena and the teachers are just wonderful. Our kid loves school, and often comes home with new skills and new vocabulary. The Montessori-styled lessons have helped make our kid more independent, communicative, and eager to help. And the school often switches up activities and lessons to keep things interesting for our kid. It's clear that Ms. Lorena is passionate about her work and is dedicated to the children. We feel truly as though the school partners with us and keeps us looped in our child's experiences and progress. One note is that it took us a while to secure a spot. Be persistent! An amazing Montessori school and amazing family that runs it spots here used to be hard to come by. Both of our kids went here and felt the love daily, sometimes they didn't even want to leave which is the best feeling as a parent. They focus on teaching kids how to be independent and respectful which makes our lives as parents trying to do the same much easier when the school also focuses on this. We started sending our little guy here about a year ago. While communication leading up felt light, once we met with Ms Lorena and started to seriously consider going to CMA, there was much more communication. We came to learn that this is because of just how much attention she and the other teachers give the students they already have! While our kiddo started off as the youngest student in his class, he thrived under their care -- making friends, doing projects, and bringing home new pieces of information! CMA is not for every kid. In our son's few months of attendance, multiple families (including ours) were asked or encouraged to leave. Our son internalized being a "bad kid" in his time at CMA and ultimately we feel that the staff are ill-equipped to handle children who don't fit into their specific, and strict archetype of the "perfect" toddler. For kids who are able to follow the specific rules and procedures, there's no doubt that they are able thrive at CMA, the activities they do and crafts they make are amazing and really encourage fine motor skills and cognitive development, but it seemed that our kid was far too often prohibited from just playing and being a kid and had to follow very strict guidelines and rules which made him frustrated. When he didn't follow the rules he was separated from his friends further which caused even more anxiety for him, leading to him to act out more, which staff at CMA didn't know how to address; possibly due to staff/student ratio. Communications with us was rare, and often only when something was "wrong"; we received very rare positive feedback. Even during our parent/teacher discussion near the end my wife had to request for Ms. Lorena to say a single positive thing about our child. Our son has since been at another preschool. He comes home every day enthusiastic and happy. He gets to play with friends all day, he is learning, growing and enjoying life. Staff at this new school have only positive feedback for him, they communicate very often, post pictures of him having fun with friends, etc. He went from feeling excessive anxiety at CMA to loving school. Our son learned a lot in his time CMA, but he was unhappy, and they made it very clear they did not want him there which is a shame. He internalized being a "bad kid" during his time there, and if I could go back in time I would have avoided CMA altogether. read more

Both of our children have been through CMA, starting at ~2 years old. We have been extremely happy with the care, thoughtful approach to play and learning, and loving atmosphere at CMA. Our children have fun at CMA and come home happy. The transition of our oldest child to kindergarten was seamless - she was fully prepared for school (to the point that she found all the schoolwork in kindergarten a bit boring - CMA had already taught her all of it). This preschool is very well run and the kids love it. The teachers are very patient and knowledgeable about each child and the skill levels for the ages they teach. There is a curriculum that they follow but also learning by play which is so important for children. They teach respect for each other and the teachers, also teaching respect for their surroundings. We feel very fortunate that we found CMA when we moved to San Leandro and our son was able to start shortly after turning 2 and will be off to kindergarten in the fall. Ms. Lorena and all of the teachers have been so warm, caring, and have truly helped our child to grow into a thriving kid with strong friendships and skills to manage the ups and downs of friendships. CMA has been amazing. My son started when he was 2.5 and will leave for TK this August. Ms. Antonia greets my son every morning and makes him feel comfortable upon arrival each day. He is challenged with new activities that keep him engaged and learning, while having fun in the process! He has made amazing friends along the way too. We are nearing the end of our daughter's time at Children's Montessori Adventure and while I'm excited for her to enter Kindergarten, I'm extremely sad to say goodbye to CMA. We moved to San Leandro in 2017 and were new to the area. We checked out a few places and ended up at Lil Angels off of Lewelling. While the staff was solid there, we were yearning for a bit more in terms of structure, learning and development as she was approaching the age of 2--that's when we found CMA. During our first visit with the Director, Ms. Lorena, at the end of summer/ early fall of 2017, we were immediately sold. Not only was she so easy to communicate with, she was also so great with the kids (kind, patient, yet firm) and her staff. This is a woman who truly cares about her school and the people in it. At that initial visit, we immediately knew that it had (and still has) everything we were looking for--structure with room for creativity, learning at the pace and interest of the child and on top of that, they learn practical life skills too. Our daughter has come to love this place and til this day, even when we pick her up she still loves to linger in the classroom and its a challenge to get her out the door (good problem to have). I love when she comes home singing new songs or even saying phrases in spanish (she can event count to 20 in spanish because of this school)! In addition to this, there are so many other wonderful benefits to having your child at this school: -- the teachers and assistants (while there has been some turnover in the past, all of the teachers we've encountered since we've been there have been amazing, caring and nurturing) -- there are often events for major holidays and special days for grandparents and parents to enjoy, it allows you to come in and see what the children have been working on. always a great time! -- they consistently change out the activities so that the children are always learning, challenging and ultimately enjoying themselves. our daughter is always excited to tell us about the latest and greatest activities -- they keep you up to date on your child's overall development with semi-annual parent/teacher conferences. --potty training!! Wow they made this transition incredibly easy and I honestly owe it all to them. They provided all the tips, advice and even helped do their part. We love CMA! Ms Lorena and her staff are wonderful! We've sent both of our children to this preschool. The older child graduated and was well prepared (and well ahead) for kindergarten. He knew the basics of reading, writing and math, and most importantly how to follow instructions. My daughter is in her last year at the school, and it's going to be extremely difficult to say goodbye! The kids absolutely love it. The school provides a warm and welcoming environment. All learning is play based, and the kids always have something interesting to do. There are regular events where parents get a glimpse of what kids do all day with the teachers, and meet each other. We've been lucky to build a great community from families we've met here. (Not during COVID, of course.) I toured 4 other preschools before deciding on CMA. When I met Ms. Lorena for my tour, my mother in law was with me as well as my son. I was instantly impressed with Ms. Lorena, as was my mother in law. During my tour, Ms. Lorena still had her eyes and ears alert to the children around her even though there were other teachers and did not hesitate to pause our tour to attend to the children. My eldest son was enrolled in CMA from age 2.5-5. He sailed into kindergarten with ease and his teacher has praised his preparedness and knowledge. Not only was my son prepared on a learning level, but also socially. On our first day of school, we saw so many tears and anxiety from other kids but my son was ready with smiles. I owe this CMA. My middle son is enrolled currently at CMA. He has been there since age 2.5, and will graduate to T-K in the fall. I have no doubt that he has been taught the skills that will prepare him for success. My daughter will definitely be a student at CMA once she is old enough. Ms. Lorena not only provides education, guidance, and love to the children, but she also helps the parents be at ease. Artwork and school work always comes home to showcase the learning that is done at school. I also appreciate all the special projects that are made during special events that I can cherish as keepsakes forever. The school has events to appreciate parents, grandparents, and family. This review is solely based on my interaction with Ms. Lorena. I really wanted my son to attend this school, especially with how close we live. I got very discouraged after trying so many times to reach Ms. Lorena. It took a few emails and phone calls each time I needed to ask a question. We toured the school and asked Ms. Lorena to contact us as soon as she knew if my son would have a spot for Fall 2022. Each of the three times I asked this same question, she didn't have a concrete answer. Her response was that she was waiting to hear from parents that already had their kids enrolled to make sure they were not going to re-enroll. I get that part, the part I don't get is why I was the one who basically had to hunt her down the many times I called or emailed to get a yes or no concrete answer about my son being able to attend. I finally got very discouraged, toured another school, and I was able to enroll my son, all within less 1 week of contacting the new school. I started contacting Children's Montessori on 11/29/21, my patience finally came to an end on 2/28/22, 3 months later! read more

We feel lucky to have found a school like CMA. Our daughter started at 2 years old and was potty trained shortly thereafter - she thrived under the teaching and nurturing of the wonderful Ms. Editha. Now she is in the pre-K class and still loves going to school every day. Our daughter has learned so much from Ms. Lorena and the other teachers: writing, songs, drawing, games, etc. The kids are also encouraged to run around and get exercise in the outdoor play areas, which is great. My child has been a student here for three years, including during the last year during the pandemic. Ms. Lorena's school is always clean and organized, with lots of thought given to keeping the space safe, friendly, and conducive to learning. The teachers we have worked with have been kind and effective without exception. I have been particularly impressed by the school's ability to meet the children where they are and helping them grow. They definitely are treating as individuals with their own needs and talents. We found out about CMA by word of mouth from good family friends around 2015. On arrival I was immediately impressed with the head of school Mrs. Lorena. Her curriculum, classroom organization, teacher education, and passion for Montessori education were an immediate draw. Her warm personality and generous spirit connected with us immediately and we signed up. The "little kids" classroom was the perfect place for children new to a formal classroom with loads of persoral attention, a bit or rigor, and standard for accountability (helping to clean up after ones self, daily circle time, and plenty of outdoor activity). The ""big kids" classroom prepared my children for the structure of elementary school, by expanding on the skills from the small class and building on them with botany, zoology, mathematics, reading/writing, Spanish, and even field trips to the local park. By the time all was said and done both children were ready for first grade by the time the graduated from preschool (the last one in 2019). Their time at CMA more than prepared them for elementary by laying crucial foundation in academics, friendship/cooperation, personal responsibility, and awareness of the wider world around them. We feel so lucky to have found CMA! Ms. Lorena and all the teachers have been wonderful. I love how respectful they are towards the children and can tell that they all truly care about each child. Since both parents work FT in our family, at times CMA feels like a second home to our daughter. She loves everyone and comes home happy and bursting with stories to share from the day. Even on days where she could sleep in, she still chooses to get to school as early as possible. We are amazed with how much she has grown this year both emotionally and academically. We were new to the Montessori methods but have been really impressed with all that she's done. She's able to do simple math and reading and we have no doubt this is from the great job the teachers have done guiding her and challenging her. I always forget to write reviews whether they are good or bad. ‍But this review is LONG overdue and I am writing it because I know the stress of looking for a really awesome preschool for your little one and no recommendations to go on. It's scary and stressful. Especially for a first time mother like me who is concerned about SO MANY things. If you are able to secure a spot at Children's Montessori Adventure consider your child lucky...and YOU have already won! Ms. Lorena and staff have such a great balance between fun, education, and teaching the kids to respect each other's space and be respectful to each other. Cleanliness: To me cleanliness is next to Godliness and this school is cleaned daily! Not to mention the kids clean up after themselves. Yes! It's the most awesome thing EVER!! My 5 year old who has moved on to kindergarten gets upset if she can't help me clean our house! She literally wants to help me mop the floor and dust furniture! But anyways this school is VERY clean and organized. Snacks: They have the most healthy and balanced snacks and they print the menu out and post it monthly in case you're curious. And of course this is a nut free school. Most snacks at other preschools consist of cereal...really??? While the school doesn't have space to provide lunches or heat up lunches DO NOT let this distract you. Make your child's lunch and move on with your life! ‍ In the event that you forget your child's lunch (I've done it a time or two) luckily they won't let your child starve and will hook them up with every child's favorite...chicken nuggets!!! Curriculum: Now that my little one is in kindergarten she is miles ahead of the game which is slightly frustrating to say the least because she learned it all here with Ms. Lorena and staff. They let the kids go at their own pace which is great! My child left knowing how to read, write her name, spell her name, know the shapes, colors, and adding like 2 digit numbers (20+20) Another child was adding 4 digit numbers (1,000+1,000). The children clean up after themselves, they know their vowels, the months of the year, the days of the week, they've experienced different snacks (veggies and fruits), can at least count to 100 when kindergarten only requires you to count to 30 I think. I can't name everything but they learn so much here in the 11 hours a day that this place is open (I think the hours are 7a-6p). The kindergarten teacher has said about my child that she knows a Montessori kid when she sees one because again they are really bright. Another thing, Ms. Lorena is Mexican and speaks Spanish so my daughter (African American) has picked up things and is interested in taking Spanish classes. Oh they also host the cutest Mothers Day & Fathers Day celebrations along with an International Potluck since there is a melting pot of cultures in attendance at this school. They host other gatherings too. Finally, but definitely not least, Ms. Lorena is the Director of this school and she is AWESOME! I believe she's in her mid 30s but loves and treats the kids like an old Mexican grandmother (abuelita) would. She has so much patience and experience with the kids (as she needed lots with mine ) and she really tries to work with all the kids who may not be "huggable". Like she REALLY tries to figure things out when a situation arises that she hasn't encountered and she's very experienced and has encountered a lot... She also CARES about your child's well being as if each and every one of them are her own. When it was unbearably hot outside she went out and bought "her children" a canopy for outdoor play. They'll still be hot but they won't be sunburned. She made sure the fans were going non stop so the children wouldn't be too uncomfortable. She's really thoughtful and amazing! Clearly I could go on and on but hopefully I've said enough to give you an idea of what you are getting when you come to Children's Montessori Adventure. My daughter was here since she was 2 years old and leaving the Montessori was SO HARD! I mean you develop a bond with the staff, the families, the kids have bonds. It's amazing! So if you're looking for a safe place where the staff is nurturing, the food is good and healthy, the environment is clean, and your child will be a knowledge bowl at the end of their preschool years, this is definitely the place for you. read more

Our children attended CMA for two and a half years. And we couldn't be more pleased. What a treasure the school has been for us. Ms. Lorena is a master at her craft. She is gifted w working with children. And is a terrific manager of the school. Even when there was teacher turn over, Ms. Lorena kept the parents informed of changes and gave us prompts to use when talking w our children. What a blessing Ms. Lorena, the teachers, and her Montessori have been to us! My oldest daughter started at 2-1/2 years old here and moved onto Kindergarten at a Catholic school in Oakland. From all the positive feedback on her academic advancement and socio-emotional being that we've gotten from her kindergarten, we owe most of it to CMA. Our youngest daughter still attends the Montessori and is well on her way becoming prepared for Kindergarten as well. It was such a big deal when both my girls became potty-trained at the Montessori. The children are also taught about cleanliness, hygiene, and etiquette ("tea time/party" was one of my daughter's favorite activities). They learned how to be respectful to others, be independent and responsible, along with how to express positive and negative feelings. One of the aspects I appreciated from the Montessori was that the children knew the procedures, rules, and behavior policies. They were mindful of themselves and each other. CMA does not allow "superhero/villain" attire or materials because it promotes aggression, and all the kiddos know, which is very cool! Ms. Lorena takes pride in her Montessori and loves each of her students as if they were her own children (whom her daughter is one of my youngest daughter's besties), and this speaks volumes in her teachings and the well-kept facility. Our daughter started at CMA when she turned 3. It was a difficult transition for her but the teachers and director were are willing to support her w the transition. Both classrooms have great teachers and the montessori curriculum worked very well for our daughter. Ms Lorena is very open to feedback and communication is ongoing. She is loving and caring and has a passion for young children! Once out 2nd baby is old enough she will also be enrolled here as well. Two of our daughters have gone through CMA since the age of two-and-a-half through Pre-K, and we cannot be more pleased with how well they were prepared for Kindergarten, both academically and emotionally. Other parents who I talk to with children who have gone through this program have agreed. Head teachers in both Toddler and Pre-K classrooms have always had the perfect blend of pedagogy and warmth. I've noticed over the years that every staff member has had a professional, yet calm demeanor, which is very important when dealing with kids (and is something that we all strive for when dealing with our own children, right?). It was always comforting for me and my wife to know that our girls were in very capable, loving hands. There was one particular positive experience that our family will never forget. When our older daughter first started at CMA, she was the smallest child at the school. Within that first year, we started receiving notices that she was biting other children. Even after taking corrective disciplinary measures, this behavior had persisted to the point where the headmistress, Ms. Lorena, had to draft a biting policy (if you ever read it, yep, it's because of our daughter!), and my wife and I were afraid that she was going to get expelled from school. Ms. Lorena and her staff really worked hard to find the root of the problem. They used this opportunity to teach all students how to assert themselves in productive and respectful ways, as well as helping students to respect the personal space of others. Sure enough, personal space and control were the issues for our petite child. This is a prime example of how CMA understands that raising a child is not just a matter of enforcing rules, but involves working through the child's potentially complex issues. I am truly grateful that Ms. Lorena and her staff are dedicated to this craft. read more

Children's Montessori Adventure is such a great school, my son loves going to school and he loves his teachers. The teachers work with each child individually and in group sessions. I love the structure and the fact that my child is constantly learning, I am amazed at how much he has learned. There is no TV on all, in fact I don't think there is a TV there at all, but there is an abundance of learning activities. All of the teachers are wonderful, and care for each child there. My daughter had attended this school for three years. During these years my Wife and I were very comfortable with leaving our daughter there everyday. Mrs Lorena and her staff not only took very good care of our child, they made us all feel as a family, all three of us we're sad we had to move on. But Mrs Lorena's class rules and structure has prepared our daughter for kindergarten at Redwood Christian Elementary both in academics and in the classroom culture. The incident report you pointed out is from 2 years ago , in 2018 and based on the report the school administrator did fire immediately the person to blame. In addition to informing the authorities and the current parents. I believe that instead of signaling a school as unsafe you should focus on the person who made the damage. If you looking for a daycare or school that hasn't had problems or incidents similar to these I'm sorry to tell you that you won't be able to find one. I have Know Ms Lorena for more that 15 years and I can garantee that the school she administers is a safe place. She treats each of the children as of they were her own , she is gentle loving person, She is very interested in make sure the children enjoy the time they spend in school and that can be perceived by the school environment it's familiar and warm and the children feel happy, the parents are very satisfied with the attention and care that the children receive from all the staff. My son is 2 yrs. Old and started school here in July. He loves it! They have really helped him k with his social skills and he is learning many new things. It was a bit tough for him to adjust to school the first few weeks but now he really looks forward to going to school. The tuition is well worth the schooling. We were initially looking into the Montessori school in San Leandro off of the 580 freeway, but I heard of this school through a friend of mine. I was initially interested in Children's Montessori because it was closer to home and work (live by Oakland Zoo and work in Concord) and didn't want to waste valuable time in the morning being stuck in traffic. I also like the fact that Children's Montessori has a better children/staff ratio than the other option. I believe it was 8/1 instead of 12/1. In addition to enrolling my daughter with our friend's son, who have grown up since birth around each other, I liked the small school feel. Ms. Lorena is very accommodating and understanding and the teachers are awesome! My daughter has caught on very quickly to potty training (less than a month) and goes full days without accidents. It has been about three months sense we first started and I have no major complaints. Cleanliness is good, the kids listen to the teachers, and the curriculum seems to be great! My daughter was able to name three months in order and can spell her name. She is 2 and a half. We practice with her at home, but I believe the training and skills that the school provides are exceptional. Highly recommended! read more

Looking for a Child care center for your child is probably one of the biggest and most important decision you'll ever come across. As parents trusting someone (anyone) with our innocent children is the most anxiety driven thing that one has to do. My family and I are blessed that My son was fortunate enough to attend CMA. He started his journey on becoming an independent and confident child at the school. The head teachers sent me pictures throughout the day during the transition to put my nerves at ease. Ms. Lorena the director of the school is the most unselfish, loving, compassionate teacher I've ever met. You can tell by the way she speaks of the children and interacts with them that they are her passion. She genuinely sees all the children that attend her school as her little ones. My son is now in Kindergarten and thriving wonderfully thanks to CMA and the beautiful staff. Ms. Lorena would make Maria Montessori proud. read more
