Very few places to take exotic pets in the area and luckily this one is near by, because they were amazing for my bearded dragon Rusty and me. Very clean place and very fast on taking care of my little guy. Dr was on business and got it handled. Maxine was amazing and super helpful with any questions I had. Highly recommend this vet.

Just chill chillaxin in her warm pool. I think she's glad as I am that it's all over.

I can't say enough good about Cat and Exotic Care. I wished I'd known about them on January 7th. That's when I took my Iguana to a vet recommended to me by another vet who no longer does Exotics. The recommendation was a joke. They had no idea about iguanas. A month later and almost $3000.00 in they say she's egg bound. This is what i said on January 7th.. To say I was ticked off is an understatement. I went home and just started calling everyone that said they do exotics. Also looking them up for reviews before hand. I came across Cat and Exotic Care in Pismo Beach,I live in Santa Barbara. Sooooo worth it. She was so egg bound because of that month with the vet they became calcified. She needed surgery and soon. I walk into the office they took her right in have her fluids and some other things and set her up for surgery. 90 eggs!!!!! And 4 stuck in her tubes ( forget what they're called. But she got through it like a champ. Today she finally got her stitches out. She's happy and healthy. The 3 visits with xrays, fluids, medications, surgery and after care, was half of what I paid for 4 visits starting January 7th to a place that was giving her animals saying she was impacted. I can't thank them enough for their awesome care and knowledge . The Other Place almost killed her if it wasn't for cat and exotic care she would be dead right now. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

My Holland lop bunny, Sandy went missing for 6 days. She was found by one of my neighbors grand daughter who didn't give up on catching her, bless her sweet little heart. When I picked up Sandy she had quite a bit of ticks on her from the fields up on the mesa. The veterinarian here at this facility was so helpful and got me in the same morning she was found. They preformed a physical examination. She is healthy and no major issues. They removed all the ticks and did booster vaccines. Also gave her some medication and ointment. I am extremely thankful for Cat & Exotic care. They were quick to care for Sandy and her problems.

    Bunito

My wife and I have been bringing our rabbit, Bunito, here since we moved to SLO County in 2023. Dr. Conn and his staff have treated Bunito for a variety of health issues, and we have always found them to be wonderful. Dr. Conn consistently demonstrates a level of knowledge, experience, and compassion that makes him one of the best veterinarians we have ever encountered. One of the issues Bunito suffered from was over-grooming, for example, and no other vet whom Bunito has ever seen (including a well-respected practice in the Bay Area) suggested looking deeper into the problem. Dr. Conn, however, suspected Bunito might be suffering from ear mites and treated him for them. Sure enough, his over-grooming disappeared practically overnight. We are always told exactly what our options are and what the associated costs will be, so we always feel well informed. We are so grateful that Bunito is a patient here.

    Rats

Dr. Conn and his kind, helpful staff are completely amazing. I have two pet rats who are clients here and the care which we have received has been exemplary. My female rat is 2 1/2 and recently underwent a spay and a mammary tumor removal expertly performed by Dr. Conn. This vet clinic is expert, conservative, reliable, kind, polite, completely knowledgeable, fairly priced, flexible, honest and compassionate. I have seen several different vets for my tiny babies and I am so relieved to have landed here with Dr. Conn and his caring and professional staff.

Dr. Conn and his staff really helped us out when our puppy chewed on our baby sulcata tortoise. They fit us right in with an appt the same day and the office is clean and friendly. The cost to fix our poor tortoise was very reasonable and they even called to follow up a couple days later. I did not think it would make it at first but Dr Conn did an amazing job. As I put into the tip, they don't treat dogs here so that the felines and exotic animals are more at ease without the scent and presence of canines. It's conveniently located in the shopping center next to the Pismo Outlets so grab a latte at FourBucks (i mean, Starbucks), get an ice cream at Rite Aid, or go shopping at the outlet if you have a wait like I did for a procedure. I highly recommend this office and I am glad our Vet in Orcutt gave me this referral when they said they didn't treat tortoises or exotics.

Second time Dr Conn literally saved a bird of mine from death. First time my parakeet ( budgie) was attacked by my green cheek conure, saved birds life and not lasting damage ( AMAZING!) Second time today, yes i should have wrote sooner...One of my budgies got bit by our ringneck at bedtime, it was bad, blood everywhere, all places closed Conejo was the closest 24 er for avian. Came in this morning and low and behold he did surgery and did his best. Budgies have a hard time making it through anesthesia but Ocho did ( my bird) and at even, time will tell if another surgery will be needed but i can not express enough, how smart this doctor is kind, knew budgies pick at bandage and made extra tape on end of splint to differ her from picking at the actual leg. ( no one has ever done this in the past) yes big kudos to this man. Praise god for vets.

Our Snuggles the next day after her spay. Hopping around, eating well and feeling great. Thanks Dr Conn and staff!

When my son needed to get his rabbit spayed he asked if I could do it. As a small animal emergency veterinarian that works locally I said that the best person for the job would be Dr. Conn at Cat and Exotics. The facility was wonderful. His staff was kind, thoughtful and incredibly professional with our little Snuggles. Update: She's been eating well and has been resting so very comfortably. You'd never think she just had a surgery performed. My family and I thank you for a job very well done.

Fiona's favorite vet by far! High quality care from a specialist in feline medicine along with affordable and transparent pricing. Planning to bring my turtle in soon since Dr. Conn also has extensive experience with exotic pets. In the words of Tina Turner... You're simply the best, better than all the rest!

Response to another pet owner, so you can see the pattern... Did he once APOLOGIZE or use EMPATHY?

We chose this location believing it would be a compassionate, supportive environment. Instead, it was disorganized and, at times, shockingly dismissive. Before our appointment, we had confirmed everything--cremation, paw prints, even having his ashes shipped. When we arrived, no one seemed to have that information. We had to repeat everything multiple times while trying to hold it together emotionally. One bright spot was Dr. Sarah Fielding, who was kind, gentle, and reassuring. She was the only person who truly made us feel supported. The rest of the experience felt rushed and impersonal. And then came the hardest part. We were told our puppy would be fully asleep before the final step. He wasn't. He appeared panicked and resisted, and I had to physically hold him down. That moment has stayed with me. It was not peaceful, and it was not what we were promised. Afterward, the issues continued. We were given conflicting information about his ashes, had to call to confirm basic details, and when we picked up his paw prints, one didn't even look like his. We were told it had been made later after removing him from the freezer, which was incredibly upsetting to hear. Hoping for some accountability, we spoke with the manager, Brooke. Instead, she was dismissive from the start, insisted nothing was mishandled, and even confused our case with someone else's before telling us we were the ones misunderstanding. That conversation made everything worse. A corporate representative later reached out and acknowledged things fell short, which I appreciated--but an apology doesn't undo what happened. This wasn't just a miscommunication. It was repeated failures in coordination, care, and basic compassion during one of the most painful moments a pet owner can experience. No family should have to go through this. I would not recommend this office for euthanasia- unless you enjoy double the pain and suffering to accompany you with your grief, then this is the place for you. And you should probably avoid Brooke at all costs. She'll just gaslight you until you hang up.

The three most common culprits are fleas, food or environmental allergies. I had knocked out the food and flea as reasons for his unhappiness by ensuring he's on a limited diet and giving him a flea product. He'd been sneezing w red watery eyes so seasonal allergies made most sense. Went to my regular vet on Thursday to get some relief and I'll just say that I was told something that I'd never heard of before and left it at that. Friday night, 11pm, like clockwork My guy is crying with his head cocked and his normally rigid ears floppy w blood and puss. We made our way to Central Coast Pet Hospital and Emergency. Thankfully there were no hurting animals this night as Linkin was given a room almost immediately. The nurse was only able to examine Linkin from a distance as he at all times will make sure there is a buffer of protection around Me and the world at all times. The nurse gave an estimate for care before the vet started. We muzzle and tranquilize to start the exam. Now this is what I loved about this experience. The vet talked to me w an easy tone, like we were two friends talking about our dogs. I shared my concerns and she validated what I was observing and complimented my care of Linkin. She treated the infection, skin irritation and his liquid filled ears in quick order. The nurse with bill in hand walked in with a detailed explanation along with amazing after care instructions. I was ok with the cost because it came in a little less than the estimation and quite honestly other than the emergency charge, my vet would have charged the same. I'm looking into pet insurance this week! All in all-we came home better than how we left but more importantly we were treated w kindness and understanding which is much appreciated. A very brief ultrasound was performed, which the staff said might show stones in the kidneys, but no further diagnostics were conducted to confirm an actual blockage. Despite the lack of a thorough evaluation, they immediately proposed a single, costly course of action--catheterization and hospitalization--quoted between $3,000 and $5,800. No less invasive options were discussed, and I was quickly handed financing brochures. The recommendation felt more like a guess than a medically grounded plan, and the overall approach came across as transactional rather than genuinely concerned with my pet's wellbeing. When I hesitated to consent, I was told, "If your cat doesn't have this procedure done, he will die," in a tone that felt more pressuring than informative. The entire interaction felt off--rushed, transactional, and lacking in genuine concern. I ultimately chose to leave and seek another opinion. After declining treatment, I was not allowed to see my cat until I paid my balance--only then was he returned to me. I sought a second opinion from another veterinarian within the next two hours. That vet conducted a thorough exam, confirmed there were no signs of blockage, and advised giving it more time. My cat was playful, eating normally, and showed no signs of distress--completely inconsistent with the diagnosis made by Lizzie Adam, the "veterinarian" at Central Coast Pet Hospital and Emergency. He urinated at home the following day without issue, confirming that the invasive ($3,000-$5,800) intervention was unnecessary. Worse, the medical summary from Central Coast included a claim that I declined treatments (pain meds and bladder expression) that were never offered to me. This kind of inaccurate documentation raises serious ethical concerns. I would not recommend Central Coast Pet Hospital and Emergency. In my experience, their priority did not seem to be the wellbeing of the animal, but rather the financial upsell. I encourage others to read the other negative reviews--many of which echo similar concerns. Veterinary care should be collaborative, honest, and compassionate. Sadly, that was not what I encountered here. Thank you for telling me my cat was "going to die!" He's alive and well--no thanks to your group.

He also proceeded to purposely scare my dog, a couple more times. My dog is not the most athletic (he's more cuddly than agile) and the vet threw a couple treats at his face and laughed when it hit his face and scared him. Then proceeded to do it a couple more times. I've done a lot of work on confidence and training with my dog since rescuing. I now have the happiest lab pit who loves people and other dogs, but this vet clearly didn't like dogs. He never once petted him or even let my dog sniff him. Bottom line if you have a big dog, a pit mix, or a rescue find a different vet.
